Shirley Hogsett is the Founder and CEO of Destiny Speaks, and she shares a number of gems in this podcast episode. She has a wealth of experience. Shirley is the youngest of 10 children born to a butcher and seamstress in Goodman, Mississippi. It was there that the importance of a tight knit family and a solid extended community was instilled in her. She and her family were diligent about service to God and to others, and it was through the vehicle of church that this philosophy was practiced. Additionally, the family would visit other churches in order to be in fellowship and service outside their environs. Her parents had a staunch work ethic and were entrepreneurs before they even understood the word. In addition to his full time job, Shirley's father was a jack of all trades -- carpentry, repairs, etc. Her. mother was a very talented seamstress. These "side hustles" brought in extra income, but this showed how you could be multi-talented and multi-skilled and make money. Even the words of a mentor still resonate today -- "You are in business to solve a problem." Shirley shares that growing up reading was her greatest joy, and when the family started getting issues of Black Enterprise Magazine this was the highlight of her month. She was amazed by reading about the phenomenal things that countless Black people were accomplishing in business. Shirley has held some very interesting positions prior to starting Destiny Speaks. In one of them, she had a career in Professional Events and Meeting Planning, which laid the foundation for the very thing she is doing currently. One of the responsibilities she had in this role was to identify speakers for these events; one of the things she noticed was that some of the very best speakers were not getting paid. Out of this revelation, Destiny Speaks was born. In working with Destiny Speaks clients, Shirley assists emerging speakers with honing in on their expertise and their passion, which ultimately leads them to targeting the organizations that have audiences that want and need to hear their messages. Additionally, other services are provided -- creation of the client's bio and marketing strategies. Shirley, who formerly served as an Empowerment Director and Chicago Chapter Leader for EBW2020, is now serving on the Global level. In this role she and EBW are charged with empowering women in building sustainable businesses. INC. Magazine also named EBW one of the Fastest Growing Sustainable Businesses. Shirley has been highly recognized and honored for her work. Specifically, she was named Who's Who in Black Chicago; she received the Business Accelerator Step It Up Award; and she has served as a Business Mentor for the 2016 Sage Summit Chicago where there were approximately 20,000 attendees from around the world. Her words of wisdom for Black women age 50+? To recognize that you have the years of experience, ingenuity and a God ordained purpose. Now, you must be sure you value yourself. Out of this, everything else is born. Want to connect with Shirley? She can be reached on via her website www.desinyspeaks.net; LinkedIn as Shirley Hogsett; Instagram: Shirley Hogsett;

Ingrid Vanderveldt is the Chairman and CEO of Empowering a Billion Women (EBW), EBW Distributors (a division of EBW2020) & Vanderveldt Global Investments. Ingrid has been named one of Oprah’s SuperSoul 100 Global Leaders, ranked #1 “Super Connector” by Fast Company, and is the recipient of the Forbes & Northwestern Mutual Global “Entrepreneur in Excellence Award”. Ingrid has achieved a lot, but growing up she had a lot of adversity to overcome. She has definitely experienced a rebirth and shares her unique story of being considered one of the ‘stupid kids’ to someone who has broken through ceilings and elevated women’s voices. Key Takeaways How did Ingrid and J.R. meet? We always want to ask the question: How do we take some of the traumatic experiences we’ve experienced in our life and use it for good, and help more people? Back then, Ingrid was called ‘retarded’ by her teacher and she was kicked out of school for her learning disability. Ingrid needed a special bus to go to school, and because she was the only one, she ended up becoming best friends with the bus driver as a child. He was like her second father. However, she got bullied by the other kids every day for being dumb. The four most powerful words a father can say to his daughter is, “I believe in you.” Let’s not prejudge. Come into the world with love. Ingrid talks about her experience at Dell and the impact that she made there. We actually tend to overcomplicate things. Either because of lack of confidence or because we want to self-sabotage ourselves. As we are coming out on the other side of the pandemic, it’s very apparent that things will not work the same way they did back in 2018 and beyond. We are in a different world. The fastest engine to getting our economy on track is through women! Ingrid has the numbers to back it up. How did Dell’s program become so accessible to women entrepreneurs? Women want to be mentored by other women, but the challenge is there are so few of us who’ve walked the walk. Ingrid has some big goals to empower a billion women for 2030. How can you support her on this mission? How do you show up with both confidence, owning your fullest potential and vulnerability? What would happen if you had the courage to openly communicate about what scares you? Getting real and honest with ourselves is where the change can happen. When you do that, you can lead the way for others to do the same. Ingrid Vanderveldt is a tech entrepreneur, investor, media personality, Oprah Top 100 SuperSoul Global Leader, and Founder of the global movement Empowering a Billion Women by 2020 (EBW2020). Deb Boulanger is the money making mentor for new women entrepreneurs. As CEO and founder of The Great Do-Over, she coaches founders in how to create programs that sell – whether they are launching a business for the first time, re-launching a business that isn’t growing, or adding new offerings to their portfolio. Deb started her program to support the large number of women in high-end mentorship and mastermind programs who are failing to make money. She noticed that while they had acquired the marketing skills to successfully grow a business, they missed the mark with creating irresistible offerings that their ideal clients wanted to buy. In 2017, she decided to apply the skills she learned in her 25-year career as a product launch executive to new startups. Deb is now a sought after business mentor by women who want to invest wisely in building a business that meets their revenue and lifestyle goals. She is also the New York City Metro Chapter Director for Empowering A Billion Women by 2020 and serves on the EBW2020 leadership team. Webiste: http://thegreatdoover.com Twitter: @debraboulanger

This Fall, I attended a beautiful event with a bunch of leaders from various industries, whose work has common theme of positive social impact. On the first evening, at the “meet and greet” gathering, I had the special opportunity to spend time with Seane Corn (yoga activist superstar and Jersey girl). In our conversation, she told me that I MUST check out the work of her dear friend, Dr. Melody Moore. Of course, I was intrigued and did some googling. I was immediately inspired by Dr. Moore’s work with girls and women about body image, trauma, self-expression. She is a brilliant, big hearted, courageous leader. Our conversation is extraordinary - covering topics from body image to leadership to humility and more. Here’s what we get into: How and why she created Embody Love Movement, inspired by teen girls Recovery from eating disorders and body dysmorphia The epidemic of “general not enoughness” 3 big hits that created her not-enoughness (hint: being a girl, body-centered family, being not-straight in a conservative Christian family) How a yoga activism training launched a calling for change A curriculum written on a barf bag on the plane, and how it started an international movement Using our past experiences to build resilience and connection Yoga and meditation created fertile soil for her work Learning humility through launching an organization “without skills” Clawing out of a shame spiral: self-compassion and self-forgiveness “Sneak attacks” of insidious thoughts women have about their bodies Being curious on our spiritual path and where our physical body fits in Women boldly owning their leadership qualities More about Dr. Melody Moore: Melody Moore, Ph.D., RYT is a social entrepreneur, a licensed Clinical Psychologist, yoga teacher, author, and speaker. She is the founder of the Embody Love Movement Foundation, a non-profit whose mission is to empower girls and women to celebrate their inner beauty, commit to kindness, and contribute to meaningful change in the world. She has trained 20 trainers and over 500 facilitators to activate the mission of Embody Love Movement across the US, Europe, and Australia. Dr. Moore’s work has been featured in the books Yoga and Body Image (eds. Klein and Guest-Jelly) and Yoga and Eating Disorders: Ancient Healing for Modern Illness (eds. Costin and Kelly) as well as National Geographic Magazine, Yoga Journal, Yoga International, Mantra, Elephant Journal, and Origin Magazine. She created the collegiate BodyImage3D program for Tri-Delta, which is experienced by every sophomore member. She is a National Eating Disorder Association’s advice columnist, an advisor for World Muse, and a faculty member for Off the Mat, Into the World, a social-profit that empowers leaders to become conscious activists. In 2015, she was featured as one of ten “Game Changers” by the Yoga Journal and chosen as one of 100 “Most Influential Global Leaders Empowering Women Worldwide” by EBW2020.
