Electric cars are killing jobs right across the Globe. The rush to go all electric is insane, it will kill jobs but also kill communities. Luton is stopping making electric cars and 1200 jobs are at risk. I broadcast a radio show on BBC local radio back in 2000 when Vauxhall tried to close down the whole factory and it is an event that helped make my career. The old cliche that bad news sells was pretty accurate in my case. The closure and my broadcast helped to unite the community and I tell you the tale of how we pulled it of in this podcast. I am immensely proud of this work which went on to win three Sony Awards (Radio Oscars) as it was a real team effort but not just the team at the radio station but the whole community of Luton. Please watch or listen and see how communities can be united. I also think its pretty funny and very indiscreet in how we did it. Please support me here www.buymeacoffee.com/jongaunt

Have you ever wondered what life on a pirate radio ship was like? Well wonder no more, because in this episode, the excellent Caroline Martin reminisces about her frankly crazy experiences aboard the pirate radio ship, Ross Revenge. In her time on the high-seas she experienced a raid from the authorities, paranormal goings-on and a helicopter rescue in a violent storm. Kind of makes you grateful that the worst most of us have had to deal with is a sticky fader from when you spilt your can of Red Bull on the desk. You can hear the emotion in her voice as she takes us back with her to the middle of the North Sea. Then what happened when she finally had to come ashore? Listen to find out. Mayor Marvin Rees said he felt no "sense of loss" after the controversial bronze statue of Edward Colston was pulled down and thrown into the harbour by protesters on Sunday. But Prime Minister Boris Johnson described it as a "criminal act". Avon and Somerset Police said a decision was taken not to intervene. Mr Johnson's official spokesman said: "The PM's view is that in this country, where there is strong opinion, there is a democratic process which should be followed. "People can campaign for the removal of a statue but what happened yesterday was a criminal act and when the criminal law is broken that is unacceptable and the police will want to hold to account those responsible. How a BBC WM 95.6FM ‘takeover' connected with people in Birmingham and the Black Country to create a big impact on a tight budget. In March 2016, BBC WM 95.6FM invited listeners and members of the local community to 'takeover' the station as reporters, producers and co-presenters for a whole week. In this podcast, the BBC Academy's Roxanne Ibrahim-Khan talks to assistant editor Sharon Stokes who headed up the WM Takeover project as well as broadcast journalist Steve Hermon who worked closely with participants and two of the stations Takeover stars: M'esha Bryan and Phil George. You'll find advice on how to do something similar for your station or radio show, including: • How WM Takeover came about • How the station selected members of the community to bring into the studio • How the team trained radio novices in editorial, legal, storytelling, radio production and creativity within a very tight timeframe • How it was a great way of unearthing local talent and original local stories • What the station learnt from the project and what could be improved on • Advice on how you could do something similar at your station • If you are new to radio, on how to best seize opportunities like this when they come up Sharon talks about how they found the participants and delivered training in partnership with the BBC Academy. She also handled the rota, which was "a bit of a military operation" - swelling the ranks by more than 100 people. It meant taking into account people's busy lives as well as the creative and editorial reasons for participants being part of a particular programme. For instance, the presenters Sunny and Shay Grewal are married so Sharon and the team decided to make the most of that and "put married couples on the show with them". M'Esha and Phil worked closely with Steve who taught them about live reporting and radio package making. You'll hear clips of M'Esha reporting live on air and Phil's radio package on the local economy in Wolverhampton. The WM Takeover project provided great rewards in terms of great content, audience appreciation and making real connections with the local community. For Sharon, building on the legacy and "tapping into that local talent is something we really want to build on".

A rare example of someone who works well on both TV and radio, Chris Tarrant stayed at the top of his game in London for generations, and helped to shape the success of the Capital business for a considerable time. He was arguably a listener's broadcaster as opposed to an anorak's favourite, evidence of which is the lack of much enthusiastically-stored archive material. The Midlands was close to his heart, from his Tiswas days – and from his time as a teacher before radio beckoned. Enjoy here some great reminiscences of his life in a return to his old stomping ground as he hosted a 45th anniversary programme on BBC WM

Johnnie Walker grabbed his early breaths in Birmingham and it was there too that he went on to spin his first discs and develop his love of music. He was less fortunate as he went on to miss out on a local DJ contest, with some random called Les Ross faring rather better. It didn't seem to hold Johnnie back. As the BBC celebrated 45 years of broadcasting in Birmingham via BBC WM and its predecessor BBC Radio Birmingham, it invited Johnnie and a series of local legends to host shows. Relish this three hour telescoped programme as Johnnie relates his own stories of his life, radio and music. It also just happens to be immaculate broadcasting and perfect storytelling.

According to the news, Dame Judi Dench's sight is deteriorating and she can't recognise faces or read her own scripts. Judi suffers from both dry and wet macular degeneration - the former leaves people with blurry vision and while the latter can cause blind spots. The star - who has been Oscar-nominated for Best Actress and set a new BAFTA record for her 15th nomination for adoption-themed drama 'Philomena' is determined not to let these problems interrupt her life. I was invited to BBC WM in Birmingham in the UK to talk about life as a person with a visual impairment on the back of the most recent news reports. #QueenAlexandraCollege #AllFormats #BBCWM #VipAdvisor
