This week, we're turning up the volume on resistance and resilience. From nationwide “Hands Off” protests to major political wins in Wisconsin and Montana, the people are making their voices heard. We also honor the lives of Linda Moran and Kaitoria “Kai” Bankz — two trans women taken too soon. In culture, I'll take you to AIDSWatch on Capitol Hill, celebrate TS Madison's game-changing Starter House, and gush over trans love in Survival of the Thickest. Let's get into it, family — because our stories matter. ✊
Episode Transcript (provided by Riverside - forgive any errors)Follow I Must Be BUGN on IGIn this episode, I take my time really digging into the concept of ego, exploring its role in self-awareness and personal identity. I discuss the importance of understanding the ego as both a source of strength and a potential obstacle. I briefly discuss Freud while leaning much more heavily on the thoughts of Mooji and my own thoughts about how we conceptualize our Self. I talk a bit about psychological theories and then continue my journey by discussing the nature of consciousness, identity, and the transient nature of our experiences. I really go into the complexities of identity, authenticity, and the role of ego in shaping our self-perception. I also make sure to frame this from a neurodivergent perspective, since that significantly shapes how we see and interact with the world. At the end of the day, this is a deep and complex conversation about how to become truly aware of our true Selves so that we can not just survive but thrive through the connections we foster from a truly authentic and unmovable place that isn't bound by current or past circumstances.Key Points:We are not our bodies or minds; they are vessels and lenses through which we experience Life.Ego can manifest as both strength and obstacle.Self-acceptance is crucial as we navigate change. We must challenge our perceptions of Self.Connection is fundamental to our existence and well-being.We often see others through the lens of our own experiences.Shame and guilt can prevent personal growth and acceptance. We are all interconnected, and our experiences shape our identities.Helpful Links:Mooji on "What is Ego?"Annaka Harris discusses the illusion of self and free willAudre Lorde - "Learning from the '60s""Ego Tripping" by Nikki GiovanniHire me to speak or buy some merch!Community for Black Gifted Adults - Our Wild Minds - Use code "Sheldon"Umbrella US - Non-profit focused on neurodivergent advocacyND Connect - Online community for neurodivergent peopleSubmit your Questions or Misunderstood InsightsIntro and Outro music provided by byrdversion1 - "It Couldn't Be" from the album Nevermore Hosted on Acast. Dr. Thema describes the definition, benefits, and steps to living a purposeful life. This week's episode begins with the poem Ego Tripping by Nikki Giovanni. It is performed by Ife Davis.
In this episode we are listening to renowned poet, activist and icon Nikki Giovanni, who visited Libreria for an intimate night of readings and discussion with a small audience. In this first of two episodes, we are listening to the live readings of: Ego Tripping (from Re: Creation, 1970), Still Life with Apron (from Chasing Utopia, 2013) & Vegetable Soup (from Make Me Rain, 2020).We will follow this with the full recording of the special night Libreria was honoured to host, which was a celebration of a major new career-spanning selection of Nikki Giovanni's poetry from 1968 to 2020, published by Penguin Classics. This is a comprehensive selection of her most important poetic works across 50 years and 15 collections, carefully curated by her long-term partner, writer and professor Virginia Fowler.Libreria wishes to thank Nikki Giovanni and Penguin Random House for the opportunity to host this evening of intimate conversation and readings at the bookshop.
Happy Friday Creek Talkers! We've got a BRAND-NEW Episode for you!!
For a podcast about Dawson's Creek, we spend a fair amount of time imagining what season 5 of Hart of Dixie would have been like. (Spoiler alert: we would have loved it.)Season 6, Episode 7 - “Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell”From the streamer: Audrey's drinking forces Joey to see how her roommate's life is spinning out of control; news that Professor Freeman is moving to Chicago presents Jack with some decisions of his own.
Do you withhold praising your significant other as a means of keeping their ego in check, is this really your problem? How do you not show ego in a relationship? True or False? The ego thinks that the best way to love someone is to change them so, the effort to love, through the filter of the ego becomes the need for control. How do you give up your ego in a relationship? Can ego ruin a relationship? How does the concept of ego apply to intimate relationships? Can you define what ego means in the context of a romantic partnership? What are some common signs of unchecked ego in a relationship? Have you ever felt your ego clash with your partner's ego? How did it affect your relationship? How can unchecked ego manifest in communication within a relationship? Can ego-driven behaviors be detrimental to relationship satisfaction?
My lazy ass rants a bit before showing you a recycled compilation of very introspective psychedelic scenes I created for my old show, culminating in more ranting from our buddy Aaron! Why am I recycling my own content? I dunno, isn't that what experiencers do each time they bring up their stories? Venture under Maharajji's blanket as we meet Rich and discuss spiritual-ego, hear about his amazing glimpse of Oneness and other topics related to spiritual awakening. “Service as a spiritual path lacks glamour. I liked moving in and out of planes of reality, esoteric teachings, secret mantras, meditation in caves, experiences of bliss. Those experiences of different planes originated in my use of psychedelics, and I'd grown attached to those experiences. It was another trap that I created for myself, another kind of spiritual ego. I had romanticized and idealized my spiritual path—so much so that I distanced myself from the nitty-gritty of life. I wanted to transcend this earthly plane, with its imperfect humans caught in their greed and ambition and selfishness, including me. Serving God was an ideal. Serving God in the form of other people, with all their vagaries and flaws, politics and personality quirks, was a whole other kettle of fish.” - Ram Dass --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Are you tripping or stripping? Do you strive to be a life-long-learner? Mastery is a fluid and consistent practice. Listen to this honest account on how Tonya and Kim came face to face with their ego while creating this podcast.Bonus material - this episode is extra long because it's actually TWO episodes in one. Stick around because the whole second half is audio from a session this summer when Tonya and Kim discovered they didn’t have as much information as they thought. Sharing both episodes provides a little behind the scenes footage and illustrates the process of “getting dirty” through growth. Additionally, it's been a meditation on their own ego work to release both recordings. Turns out, it wasn't terrible.

Toure Show is successful people talking about the talents, tactics, and attitudes that helped them become successful. What’s at the core of your success? What’s your superpower? How did you rebound from failure? Hopefully these are conversations that are valuable to you and help you get more fuel for your journey. Nikki Giovanni is one of the greatest living poets in the world. I grew up hearing Ego Tripping recited over and over in ways that seemed to magically transform all who recited it and all who heard it. And so many of her other poems are so simple or so beautiful or so powerful that I can’t forget them. Plus Nikki is a joy to be around. She’s funny, smart, humble, and she’s cool. She’s the best dinner guest imaginable. In this hour plus conversation we talk about: • Her insight into Trump voters after a life lived in Appalachia. • The impact of watching domestic violence in her childhood home. • How she rebounded from a health scare by getting onstage. • What makes a great poem. • How she learned to cry. • Why she feels she needs to go into outer space. If you want to talk to me about this ep or suggest a future guest I’m on Twitter @Toure and on Instagram @Toureshow. And please rate and review on iTunes—it makes a difference!
