**Patreon Episode - Visuals*** patreon.com/c/TogetherRealBad In this Patreon episode of Together Real Bad, Beautifulll and Ace get real about navigating blame in relationships—from late-night matcha disasters to emotional misfires and unspoken expectations. We kick things off with a check-in on work, wellness, and that one neighbor who might just be a villain. Then we get personal about family brunches, coming out, and why setting emotional traps (even unintentionally) never ends well.
Family, this week we're celebrating political wins in Colorado and Boise, shining a light on the Curve Foundation's Power List, and spotlighting NFL player Khalen Saunders for creating space in sports for LGBTQ athletes. From politics to pop culture, Anna brings the stories that matter to our community—amplified, unfiltered, and with plenty of heart. In Politics: Colorado Comes Through: The state House passes groundbreaking bills protecting gender-affirming care, shielding trans kids and their families, and recognizing abortion as a constitutional right. Boise Stands Tall: Despite Idaho's ban on flying non-governmental flags, Boise Mayor Lauren McLean affirms the city will keep flying the Pride flag. The best part? The bill has no enforcement mechanism. Sometimes resistance is as simple as staying the course. In Culture & Entertainment: Curve Power List Honors Anna: That's right — our very own Anna DeShawn made the 2025 Curve Power List! Shoutout to the Curve Foundation for recognizing LGBTQ+ women and nonbinary folks shaping culture and policy. What an honor to be listed among such icons. Chicago Tops Queer Travel Safety Index: Misterb&b names Chicago the #1 safest city for LGBTQ+ travelers in the U.S., beating out places like Seattle, San Francisco, and Honolulu. Come through, Chi-town! NFL Allyship in Action: Saints player Khalen Saunders is hosting a football camp for LGBTQ+ athletes in St. Louis, co-led by bisexual former Cowboy RK Russell. Saunders says being an ally means showing up — and he's doing just that. GLAAD Awards on Hulu: Don't forget to stream the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, now on Hulu. Let's celebrate those who tell our stories right.
This week, we're turning up the volume on resistance and resilience. From nationwide “Hands Off” protests to major political wins in Wisconsin and Montana, the people are making their voices heard. We also honor the lives of Linda Moran and Kaitoria “Kai” Bankz — two trans women taken too soon. In culture, I'll take you to AIDSWatch on Capitol Hill, celebrate TS Madison's game-changing Starter House, and gush over trans love in Survival of the Thickest. Let's get into it, family — because our stories matter. ✊

What happens when a passionate broadcaster with a dream to be the next Robin Roberts transforms the media landscape for BIPOC and QTPOC creatives? Join us on "Was it Chance" as we dive into the inspiring journey of Anna DeShawn, the trailblazing force behind E3 Radio and The Qube. Discover how Anna's visionary drive and relentless pursuit of inclusivity are reshaping digital media and giving voice to those who need it most. Anna DeShawn is a celebrated multi-award and Ambie-winning podcast producer and host from Chicago, known for her pioneering work in media. She founded E3 Radio in 2009, an online station for queer music and news, and co-created The Qube, a platform for BIPOC and QTPOC creatives. Recognized by the Chicago LGBTQ Hall of Fame and Equality Illinois, Anna is a trailblazer in digital media. In our interview, Anna shares her journey from aspiring broadcaster to media innovator, discussing her passion project turned full-time gig, E3 Radio, the creation of The Qube, and her mission to amplify marginalized voices. She also reflects on the challenges of unlearning corporate behaviors, redefining success, and managing her creative flow. Check out Anna's website or Instagram. She was a “serious” broadcaster. Anna wanted to be Robin Roberts (the only Black Woman she had ever seen doing this work) She went to school to learn how to do that and ended up working on online broadcasting in the corporate space. E3 Radio was a passion project on the side. It's important to ask yourself what is the worst-case scenario. Is that really that bad? Get a copy of The Big Leap (get a copy here!) if you're looking to step into your zone of genius. It's easier for Anna to give “of” herself than to give “to” herself and there is not enough content out there at the intersection of race and sexuality. She saw a gap and decided to fill it. The QUBE is a podcast production company and a curated platform for Black and Brown podcasts. The QUBE is to podcasting what BET was to television. Balance comes because things ebb and flow - they have to. There has been real work in unraveling what “corporate” says is successful vs. what we actually know to be successful for us. Learn how to manage freedom. Anna works best when it's dark outside so she arranges her schedule to accommodate that. The biggest challenge for Anna has been “unlearning” bad corporate behavior. “What does success mean to me today?” It may change and be redefined over and over again. Anna had to learn to own failure because you can't have success without failure. There is no failure, only feedback. Now she sits on new ideas to see how they develop and transform. This month I decided to take a small break from the normal dynamics of the podcast while still giving you an amazing episode. On this episode I have two different conversations that both contribute to the bigger picture of staying true to yourself. This month's Naturally on a Wave spotlight artist is Kishboy who happens to be the second Nigerian artist that is joining the segment! On today's episode, I persevered through unfortunate circumstances, in order to give this artist the recognition he deserves. Joining me via audio snippets, Kishboy talks about his independent music journey that includes many struggles from being semi-forced in the afro-beats category to funding his career as a whole. He has not let that stop him from staying focused on his passion for making music so after listening to his story I encourage you to give him a follow to keep in touch with him and show your support for independent music. In this month's regular episode I featured two songs from his debut EP 'Tis the Season' and this episode features the last two songs so stay tuned to the end to check them out. Happy Pride Month!!! On the first part of this episode I reflect on coming out 2 years ago as a Transman here on the podcast as well as the growth I have experienced throughout the beginning of transitioning. With no notes written down, I speak directly from the heart about what life has been like for me discovering myself semi-publicly through this podcast. Then in the second part of the podcast I have my long time childhood friend join me to discuss the indigestible situations occurring here in the states from anti-trans laws to gun violence. These are our opinions and we are not expert. Feel free to let us know your opinions about what is going on and how it has effected you because it helps to know you are not alone.Check out the N.O.W. spotlight artist KishboyIG:@kishboy_szn Twitter:@Kishboy_sznhttps://ffm.to/brsempeLinks for Organizations MentionedAmerican Civil Liberties UnionHuman Rights CampaignTrans Legislation Tracker>Listen to E3 Radio-https://e3radio.fm>>Click here for more Grown Uphttps://grownuppodcast.info/Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/grown-up-dholland.
