Prime Video's highly-anticipated film Superboys of Malegaon is set to make its world premiere at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival/ TIFF on September 13, 2024. Produced by Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby, this heartwarming movie features Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Shashank Arora in lead roles. Directed by Reema Kagti and written by Varun Grover, the film is inspired by real events in Maharashtra's Malegaon, where a local filmmaker, Nasir Shaikh, rallies his friends to produce a Bollywood-style movie with a modest budget and means. This uplifting story celebrates the spirit of filmmaking and friendship and is sure to create waves when it releases theatrically in India, even through the release date in India is yet to be revealed.

Brandon Purdie Since childhood, Brandon Purdie has been obsessed with bringing inspiring films to captive audiences. After moving up from tearing tickets and sweeping floors at his local theater to managing a regional theater chain, Purdie immersed himself in box office numbers, concession margins, team management, and the cinematic experience. This blossomed into a career at the indie distributor Excel Entertainment, moving from Marketing Director to overseeing the marketing and release of dozens of projects a year in theaters and on DVD. Shortly after, he founded Purdie Distribution, advising filmmakers on how to make and sell their films. In 2023, Angel Studios enlisted Purdie to launch their theatrical division, and out of the gate Purdie and his team beat the odds. The first theatrical release, HIS ONLY SON, a film that was made for only $250,000 grossed over $12M in domestic box office. In this episode, we take a look at Top 10 Bollywood Investors into Startups in India. #10 Varun Dhawan: Varun started his entrepreneurship journey with the launch of his own clothing line called Dhawan & Only in 2018. Since then, he has has invested in a nutrition supplement brand Fast&Up as an angel investor and most recently, invested in multi-brand cloud kitchen startup Curefoods and also became the brand ambassador of their flagship brand EatFit. #9 Malaika Arora: Malaika started her entrepreneurial journey with an investment into yoga and wellness startup Sarva. Last year, she launched her own delivery-only food brand called Nude Bowls and since then, she has launched ‘Malaika Arora Ventures' to invest in startups in the lifestyle, health, and wellness sector. She recently invested in a D2C Ayurvedic nutrition brand Kapiva, while also becoming their brand ambassador. #8 Akshay Kumar: Akshay started his journey of investing into startups in 2019, by investing an undisclosed amount in a wearable fitness brand GOQii while also becoming its brand ambassador. In 2020, he launched celebrity-led online learning platform Social Swag, with actor Rana Daggubati. #7 Anushka Sharma: Anushka started her journey as an investor with her brother Karnesh Sharma, with the launch of a production house called Clean Slatez Film in 2013. In 2017, she launched her own clothing brand, Nush. She started investing in startups by investing ₹2.5 crore in insurtech unicorn Digit Insurance, in 2020 with her husband Virat Kohli. Recently, she along with Virat invested in a plant-based meat startup Blue Tribe. #6 Alia Bhatt: Alia launched her own environmentally friendly kidswear brand Ed A Mamma, and has scaled it to a valuation of ₹150 crores. Before that, she invested in an online personal styling platform StyleCracker. In 2020, Alia invested ₹4.95 crore into omnichannel beauty and wellness marketplace Nykaa - where her investment of ₹4.95 crore turned into ₹54 crore by the time Nykaa went public. In 2021, she invested an undisclosed amount into D2C wellness startup Phool. #5 Priyanka Chopra: Priyanka started her investment journey in 2018, by investing into college alternative startup The Holberton School. She later invested in online dating startup Bumble and also helped them launch in India. Last year, she launched a restaurant named SONA in New York and earlier this year, in 2022, she launched a vegan hair care brand called Anomaly in the US. #4 Farhan Akhtar: Farhan started his journey as an entrepreneur by setting up a production company called Excel Entertainment back in 1999. In 2016, he first invested in film discovery app Flickbay, then in Indian beer brand Bira 91 and more recently, in 2021, in Ola Electric. #3 Amitabh Bachchan: Amitabh launched his own production and event management company called Amitabh Bachchan Corporation in 1995. This turned out to be a bad investment but he learnt his lessons and in 2011, invested ₹6.27 lakh into Just Dial and making 100x returns on his money. In 2015, he invested $250,000 into a blockchain startup named Ziddu. In 2019 he followed this up by investing into an edtech startup called Eduisfun, and then in 2022, he funded merchandise startup Macmerise Celfie Design. #2 Suniel Shetty: Suniel launched a production company, Popcorn Motion Pictures in 2002, a luxury homes real estate business S2 Realty and Developers, and a luxury furniture and home lifestyle business, R House with his wife Mana Shetty in 2013. In terms of startups, Suniel has invested in a number of startups including fitness platform Fittr in 2019, healthtech startup Vieroots and edtech venture Sai Estate Management and Skills Institute in 2020 and protein water brand Aquatein in 2022.

This is a great family film that is the latest from the constantly growing genre of mormon cinema. Some of you might ask, “What does Trek: The Movie have to do with missionary work?"
