When you think about the size of the universe, it's easy to feel tiny. But Psalm 8 reminds me that the God who made the moon and stars is still mindful of us.
When a lion roars at 114 decibels, it jolts you back to reality. In the opening message of the Let the Lion Roar series, Rev. Vicki Harrison walks through Amos 1-2 and asks a question many of us have wrestled with: when we look at the injustice and suffering in our world, does God actually care? The answer Amos gives is yes. God is not silent. He is in pursuit. This message explores who Amos was, a humble shepherd and fig farmer God called to prophesy to the prosperous and apathetic northern kingdom of Israel. We see God roaring in judgment against the surrounding nations, then against Judah, and finally against Israel itself for oppressing the poor, trampling the vulnerable, and worshiping God on Sunday while tolerating injustice on Monday. God sees everything, He counts everything, and His patience has a breaking point. Key scripture: Amos 1-2, with the central declaration "The Lord roars from Zion and thunders from Jerusalem" (Amos 1:2) and the indictment of Israel in Amos 2:6-8. Rev. Harrison also points to 1 John 5:19 and shares the challenge from International Justice Mission's Gary Haugen: what is God's plan for justice in the world? Just us. Healing After Betrayal – Moving from Broken to Brave with Tammy Gustafson Have you ever done everything you were told a “good Christian wife” should do—pray harder, forgive quickly, submit more—only to find yourself deeply betrayed and wondering where God is in the middle of it all? In this powerful conversation, Leslie sits down with counselor, speaker, and author Tammy Gustafson to talk honestly about betrayal trauma and the unique struggles Christian women face when their marriages are shattered by infidelity or sexual betrayal. Tammy explains that true restoration begins when each person stays in their own “shoes”—the betrayer doing the hard work of repentance and change, and the betrayed partner focusing on her own healing. When that balance is restored, real transformation becomes possible. Forgiveness Has a Process—And It Can't Be Forced Many Christian women are pressured to forgive quickly, but premature forgiveness can actually shut down the healing process. Forgiveness doesn't mean the betrayal was okay, and it doesn't guarantee reconciliation. Instead, forgiveness usually comes after truth-telling, grieving, and processing anger. When women allow healing to unfold in the right order, forgiveness becomes freeing rather than forced. Brave Healing Requires Strength and Self-Honor Moving from broken to brave means stepping into your God-given worth and refusing to minimize the harm done to you. It means honoring your grief, setting boundaries, and recognizing that you deserve safety, honesty, and respect. Though this path may feel unfamiliar—or even selfish—it is often the courageous step toward real healing and freedom. Bio: Dr. Heath Lewis joined the faculty at Concordia University, St. Paul in Fall 2015. As Associate Professor of Christian Education & Leadership, Dr. Lewis teaches courses in the Christian Ministry major, working to enhance the historically strong Christian Education and Church Work programs at CSP. In his role as Associate Chair of the Department of Theology & Ministry, Dr. Lewis supports the Department's faculty, staff, and students in their teaching, research, and professional development. He also leads the academic programming for CSP's LCMS Colloquy program, and has served as an instructor in CSP's EdD in Educational Leadership program. Prior to arriving at CSP, Dr. Lewis served as the Director of Christian Education (DCE) at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (Edmond, OK). Outside the classroom, Dr. Lewis can often be found in the crowd at a concert or sporting event. Pride is a form of unbelief. Faith admits need. Pride won't. Faith banks on God. Pride won't. Faith casts anxieties on God. Pride won't.
I hope you'll see this truth today. God cares about your emotional state. We've often been taught to hide our emotions. I know that I struggle to express my emotions in public. We've been taught to stifle them. Be strong. Don't let anyone see what is going on inside. But God cares about our emotions.Main Points:1. Throughout Scripture, we see men and women feeling and expressing emotion, but nowhere do we see it more than in the book of Psalms. David and the other Psalm writers openly bare their soul and their inner lives. We get to see what's happening on the inside, not just on the outside.2. Did you know that God also feels emotion? We feel emotion because God feels emotion. Genesis tells us we were created in the image of God.3. Not only can God bring healing to our physical bodies, but He can also bring healing to our mental and emotional state. God cares about our whole being. Today's Scripture Verses:Psalm 77:1-4 - “I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted. I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.
