*Werbung

Long before the internet was an entertainment platform, it was almost entirely built around information and learning. It can still be an extremely powerful educational tool - like an entire reference library wherever you want it. ‘Think With Google' is a series of articles focussed on technology, marketing and leadership, designed to provide some thought provoking substance to your daily reading habits. And now, you can have those articles read out loud to you, with Google's new audio narration feature. Find out more at thinkwithgoogle.com Early next year looks like the launch for Netflix's cheaper, advertiser supported subscription plan. The streaming giant is looking for a new strategy to deal with cancellations and to keep its numbers up - the cheaper plan is likely to be built around Netflix original content and won't have so much of the shows and films made by big studios. Finally a report in the Wall Street Journal hints at mobile phones getting even thinner with virtual sim cards. I think this is great news because there's nothing more annoying than trying to remove the SIM from a phone -the report says it would also make it simpler to have 2 numbers running from the same handset.

OK, buckle up. We're about to find out how being a music lawyer is like being a NASCAR driver. And we'll learn how, in music law, “your adversaries are your friends and your friends can sometimes be your adversaries.” Our guest in this episode is Kenny Steinthal. He's a 40 year veteran music lawyer, specializing in music and media on both the litigation and deal making sides. His clients include household name companies like Google, Netflix, Pandora, Viacom, ESPN, Peloton, and many others. Ken is a Senior Partner in the Intellectual Property Group at King and Spalding in San Francisco. He was the Managing Partner at Greenberg Traurig before that. And before that he was Co-Head of the IP and Media Practice Group at Weil Gotshal in New York. Among other national legal accolades he's received, Law 360 dubbed him a Media and Entertainment MVP, putting him in an elite class of five, and the National Law Journal named him an “IP Trailblazer.” In this episode Ken gives us a crash course in music law, simplifying the complex, and educating us on public performance rights, music synchronization rights, distribution rights, and explaining everything from compulsory licensing to ASCAP and BMI. Kenny also tells us his secrets to success, what motivates him, and how he got into music law . The bingeing began first thing in the morning, leading to eye strain, fatigue and disturbed sleep, the newspaper reported. Treating his condition will involve five-minute breathing exercises every hour to relieve stress, according to New Delhi's The Print, along with therapy and career counseling. "Netflix addiction" isn't in the DSM-5, psychiatry's so-called Bible of mental disorders, and controversy surrounds the ideas of similar screen-related addictions. The World Health Organization classified video game addiction as a mental health disorder in June, a decision met with skepticism by some mental health experts. A software glitch in the social site gave outside developers potential access to private Google+ profile data between 2015 and March 2018, when internal investigators discovered and fixed the issue, according to the documents and people briefed on the incident. A memo reviewed by the Journal prepared by Google’s legal and policy staff and shared with senior executives warned that disclosing the incident would likely trigger “immediate regulatory interest” and invite comparisons to Facebook’s leak of user information to data firm Cambridge Analytica. Chief Executive Sundar Pichai was briefed on the plan not to notify users after an internal committee had reached that decision, the people said. The closure of Google+ is part of a broader review of privacy practices by Google that has determined the company needs tighter controls on several major products, the people said. In its announcement Monday, the company said it is curtailing the access it gives outside developers to user data on Android smartphones and Gmail.

Reflektion have been quietly dominating retail by using AI in uncharted areas for a number of years. They were understanding consumer preferences in real time and delivering a 1:1 experience on the fly before it was even a thing. The company was born by Google/Netflix pioneers and is used by brands like Disney, Godiva, Marmot, and Uniqlo. Reflektion understands the individual intent and preferences of each customer and intelligently responds in real time. When combined with our knowledge of your brand’s product offerings, these insights allow you to leverage your most relevant content or products to influence each customer at every relevant point of engagement. I invited Reflektion’s Chief Strategy Officer Kurt Heinemann onto the show tonight to learn more about what we should expect in the e-commerce industry when it comes to tech and the newest trends.
Filter bubbles happen in Google, Spotify, Netflix, and anywhere else search results are filtered to suite your previous tastes and interest. Convenient? Yes. Good for unbiased results and the flow of new things into your life? No When algorithms decide what we see and hear, they shape our life. That is the filter bubble. What should today's developers and tech companies do with this?
