One of the biggest health issues in America often starts earlier than we think with maternal health. Things like poor diet, high stress, lack of sleep, and exposure to toxins can have lasting effects not just on women, but on their future children too. More and more, we're seeing links between a mother's health before and during pregnancy and rising issues like anxiety, ADHD, and postpartum depression. To make a real difference, we need to focus on supporting women well before they get pregnant. That means helping them build healthy habits around food, sleep, stress, and emotional well-being. Taking care of moms early on can lead to better outcomes for families and set the stage for healthier generations ahead.Highlights of the Podcast00:04 – Introduction & The Root Cause01:35 – Who's Having Babies?03:34 – Scientific Examples: Diet & Toxic Exposure05:05 – Prepping the Body for Pregnancy06:32 – Breastfeeding & Nutrient Quality08:01 – Mental Health and Emotional Wellness09:44 – Sleep Apnea & Pelvic Floor Health11:11 – Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy12:37 – Why the System Ignores This13:47 – Final Thoughts: The Real Fix

On baby bust, feminism and male resentment. [Patreon Exclusive] Alex and regular contributor Leigh Phillips call up Korean sociologist Hyeyoung Woo, director of the Institute for Asian Studies at Portland State University, to talk about demography, family and gender in the Republic of Korea. How urgent is the national debate on fertility? What policy measures have been introduced to reverse the decline? How is work organised and how do long hours contribute to the lack of family formation? What has been the impact of feminist movements in Korea? Is there a male backlash against feminism underway? Why is there such a huge gender gap in voting behaviour among the young? Links: /394/ Girls, Left / Boys, Right ft. My guest on the podcast today writes a lot about this issue, and she recently published a fascinating piece on South Korea, which has the lowest fertility rate in the world. Anna Louie Sussman is an award-winning journalist who reports on gender, economics, reproduction, and health.
