Today Ali and Asif discuss the career of the man, the myth, the legend, ‘The Boss' Bruce Springsteen (2:03). They start off by discussing his early life growing up in New Jersey, his working class background, and how he feels somewhat like a ‘fraud'. Then they talk about his nickname ‘The Boss' and how people call out “Bruuuuce” in his concerts. The guys then discuss famous covers of his songs and other trivia about Springsteen (Ali also tells a story about meeting Jake Clemons, from the E Street Band). They then each go over their favorite ‘hidden gems' from Bruce Springsteen's catalog. Then Ali asks Asif about peptic ulcer disease (34:35), since Springsteen had to cancel several dates on his current tour because of complications of this disorder. Asif talks about what it is, how common it is and the main things that contribute to it, namely non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and infection with the bacteria Helicobacter Pylori. Asif then talks about the presenting symptoms and how your doctor would test for it. He then goes over the treatment for peptic ulcer disease. In 2015, Jake Clemons played a very intimate and special gig in the tiny front room of Deirdre and Saoirse Houston's house on the west coast of Ireland. 37 very lucky people (and a cat) were there that night as Jake pulled up in his small red rental car and proceeded to unload his saxophone and guitar. That night will stay with those lucky 37 people forever - especially as they were required to collectively help out on one song! Tune in to find out the full story of that wonderful night in Galway and to hear the fantastic memories from that living room gig. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jeff-matthews4/message

Reposting this episode on request from two lovely fans of the pod I met at a Bruce Springsteen gig last night. Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and E Street Band saxophonist Jake Clemons joins host Jeremy Dylan to chat about his love for Sarah McLachlan's 1997 album “Surfacing”. Why did this album inspire Jake to become a songwriter? How did McLachlan and producer Pierre Marchand create a unique sound for the album? Why doesn't Jake play all the instruments on his own records? Does Jake think his and Sarah McLachlan's classical training is an asset or hindrance in creating great pop music? What key piece of songwriting advice that Bruce Springsteen gave Jake is reflected in this album? My Favorite Album is a podcast unpacking the great works of pop music. Each episode features a different songwriter or musician discussing their favorite album of all time - their history with it, the making of the album, individual songs and the album's influence on their own music. Jeremy Dylan is a filmmaker, journalist and photographer from Sydney, Australia who has worked in the music industry since 2007. He directed the the feature music documentary Jim Lauderdale: The King of Broken Hearts (out now!) and the feature film Benjamin Sniddlegrass and the Cauldron of Penguins, in addition to many commercials and music videos. Tony-nominated Broadway star, country singer-songwriter and TV star Laura Bell Bundy drops by for an episode as diverse as her career - delving into Shania Twain's 1996 mega-hit "Come On Over", the soulful inspiration of Otis Redding's "Greatest Hits" and the introspective New York vibes of Bright Eyes 2005 record "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning". How did Shania change the kind of songs Laura wrote for herself? What's the best kind of animal to have in your live set? How does the dichotomy of her album "Achin and Shakin" reflect her love for Shania and Otis? Who does Laura think she's the musical love child of? This week, we welcome Referee Jake Clemons to the show! Jake tells us how one becomes a referee, we discuss the importance of what a ref does in a wrestling match many don't realize, how undervalued they are when cutting corners in indy wrestling, and what happens when a ref gets too involved, including a story with Bobby fish and Matt Striker. Michael Sorg (@sorgatron) and Eamon Patron (@eamon2please) also continue the conversation with the latest controversy with women wrestlers bleeding, and talk upcoming shows from Renegade Wrestling Alliance, Ring of Honor, and more!
