This week we're talking to R&B singer Heather Victoria. She is signed to the collective Jamla Records here in the state of NC. We discuss her upbringing and how her parents were a huge influence on the path she chose in music; they also had a musical background. Other topics range from her introduction to 9th Wonder, the imprint she wants to continue to make in R&B, and what we should expect with her latest project slated to release early 2024. With her lead ‘Toxic' single out, I definitely had to ask her if she had toxic moments? She definitely gave her take! Thank you again for sitting down with WGN Heather V! #WhoGotNext #CLTure

Jamla Records recording artist Heather Victoria releases her new single “Sunbeams” today. It’s the second single off her forthcoming EP, Boutique Hotel, which is set to drop on October 11th, with features from Big K.R.I.T and Raheem DeVaughn. She brings back the nostalgia of 90's R&B soul with a vintage sound. “Sunbeams” embodies Heather Victoria’s tranquil style. The song is filled with melodic vocals that compliment the airy beat. Heather Victoria personifies the essence of being a woman, ultimately empowering and encouraging her listeners. Heather Victoria’s articulation of the vulnerability of womanhood is inspiring. In a time where women are permeating the music scene, she is ready to stake her claim. “Sunbeams” is a follow up to the dreamy single, “Japan”. Heather dropped an acoustic visual for the single in early August. “Japan” acoustic visual serves as the perfect teaser for what’s to come.  Hailing from Wilson North Carolina, this southern belle is no stranger to the game. Growing up in around other musicians such as her mother (a singer in the band Ultra Sonic), Heather  Victoria was already honing her craft at a young age. Pulling musical influences from R&B's most renowned singers Mary J. Blige, Anita Baker, Monica, Toni Braxton, and Beyoncé Heather discovered a sound of her own.

Artists these days focus so heavily on their craft that they forget about the business and marketing side of the music business. Understanding the basic copyright law, marketing trends, and varying aspects of the business can provide you with a leg up. Brandon Jackson is a marketing and branding expert, author, and host of the Music Business Dreams podcast. Brandon got his start in the music business as a marketing intern at Grammy winning producer 9th Wonder's indie label, Jamla Records. There he learned firsthand just how much work it takes to make it in music. In 2011, he founded KDMR Music, a company that provides education and consulting services to those interested in building successful careers in the music industry. Through his podcast and YouTube Channel, he has provided free music business education to thousands of independent musicians in over 22 countries. Brandon also provides marketing, branding and photography services to non-music clients as a freelancer. The Podcast Crew is Back! And we had a lot to talk about and new music to play. Cheats, Hip Hop Henry, Rich, Gigi, RT, and DJ Mentos were in the building to talk about our adventure with super-producer 9th Wonder and Soul Council member Kash from Jamla Records. We also talked about the Style Weekly cover story from Brent Baldwin titled "When Will Richmond Embrace Hip-Hop?," we played new music (Joey Gallo, Nickelus F, and more), and in-studio we had a special guest - Lew Sid from the ATI crew out in Virginia Beach. And also in-studio we had our very own J-Slim from 3Way Ent. They created one of the best freestyle sessions we've had on the podcast this year. As always, we had Kush behind the board and Jess (SnyderVision2020) behind the camera. Oh and S/O my brother Bo Fields for coming through as well. #WESEEIT

Live from Atlanta, at the tenth anniversary of the #A3c Music Festival, we finally caught up with producer and Harvard scholar 9th Wonder where he share his incredible story about leading a scene in North Carolina with the incredible Little Brother crew to not giving Jay Z a track he had for his own group. The breakup with Phonte and Big Pooh, making hits for Destiny's Child and why he's going so hard for his Jamla Records premier artist Rapsody, why he really wants to collaborate with Rich Homie Quan and of course, his journey in becoming a professor at Harvard University. This was truly an honor building with 9th and I hope you enjoy this as much as we did.

With Grammy award winning producer 9th Wonder as her mentor along with being the first lady of North Carolina hip hop group, Kooley High, Rapsody has more than paid her dues as an MC. Respecting her work since first speaking with her back in late 2010, she hasn't let up since her first solo digital release. Already three mixtapes in from Return of the B-Girl, to Thank H.E.R. Now, and most recently For Everything, Rapsody deserves her fair share of credit. On our part 3 conversation, she joins me to discuss how she's evolved lyrically since her first release, how she met her rap hero Jay-Z, and what's it like to blaze the internet waves with 9th Wonder as her mentor.
