The November 8th midterm elections are described by many as one of the most “consequential elections,” in American history! The bedrock of American Democracy, is no doubt the right to vote, that essential right to vote is now encumbered by new voter ID and absentee laws enacted in many states, across the nation. -----    Social justice activist Reverend Darryl Gregory Gray, cohosted a lively, informative discussion on new voting laws in the red state of Missouri. ------    Our panel included former Greendale mayor Monica M. Huddleston, of the St. Louis Area Voting Initiative aka SLAVI, Missouri State Senator Brian Williams and Attorney Jerry Hunter, Republican Chairman of the Stlouis City Board of Elections Commission. -----   Our distinguished panel agreed that voter education, in preparation for the midterm elections, is essential now more than ever, with so much at stake. ------    Massive voter registration and education efforts are happening across the country including Missouri, in response to the new voting laws designed to make voting more difficult for minority groups. ------   The new voter ID requirements are likely to impact seniors citizens, many of whom no longer have drivers licenses, will now be required to obtain state identification cards. ------    This episode of Tangazo will help prepare you for voting, in the critical upcoming November elections, which are as described earlier, one of the most “consequential elections in the history of this country!” ------    This is a really good episode of Tangazo that reflects our serious concern, about protecting our rights to vote which is the foundation of our democracy. -----    This episode of Tangazo also demonstrates African American participation in the most important aspect of our democracy, including helping to shape the voting laws and are challenging the laws, as in the case of Missouri State Senator Brian Williams and social justice activist Reverend Darryl Gregory Gray. Implementation of the laws as in the case of Attorney Jerry Hunter, chairman of the Board of Elections Commission in St. Louis city and educating the black community on the new voting laws, as in Monica Huddleston and SLAVI, the organization she represents. -----    Incidentally Monica wants me to remind you that, where as it once was common practice for African Americans to move to St. Louis county, while continuing to vote in their old neighborhoods in the city, It's risky business now that could result in severe penalties.-----

In this seventh episode, experts discuss how the vaccine gets from the manufacturers gate into a patient's arm and all the challenges in between. The episode looks at how transportation and storage has been planned and executed by the big international transportation players thus far. While there have been some pleasant surprises with smooth deliveries in some western countries, getting the vaccine to lower income countries will remain an ongoing challenge. Freezer storage capacity — both during transportation and at vaccination sites — will be a crucial consideration and this will only get more challenging as more vaccines get authorized and distributed. Meanwhile, with a very short planning process ahead of rollout, experts discuss the greater potential for human error when trying to keep the limited vaccine supply viable. Finally, experts discuss the need for better planning and investment around scheduling vaccine administrations, which has been the biggest unexpected hurdle thus far, particularly in the US. Expert Guests: -- Dr Prashant Yadav is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Global Development and Affiliate Professor of Technology and Operations Management at INSEAD. Yadav has with governments and global organizations to improve medical product supply chains. Previous roles include Strategy Leader-Supply Chain at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Chair of the Market Dynamics Advisory Group of the Global Fund. -- Professor Hani S. It's easy to get caught up in the day-to-day running of your business. But, says Gregory Gray, if you don't think about the future and work towards it… all your efforts will be for nothing.  Because real sustainable growth can only happen if you're clear on what you want and make an actual plan to get there… a plan that guides what you do on a daily basis. Of course, that's just part of the equation. To be successful, part of that plan must be for you, as the business owner, to “remove” yourself from the business to a certain extent, otherwise it will never grow beyond you. We talk about how to do that, as well as…  How to shift to a strategic rather than tactical – and why you should The essential leadership skills for small business owners What you can learn from good and bad mentors Why working long, hard hours does more harm than good And more

After a successful twenty-year career in the Manufacturing and Service Industries, Gregory Gray left the corporate world in 2010 to pursue his purpose of developing incredible leaders and teams supported by high-performance cultures. As a business owner, he can help you create freedom of time, wealth and purpose. He offers business coaching, along with courses, programs, and workshops specifically designed to effect positive transformation, so you can realize your desired vision and lifestyle. His personal mission is to help others find their purpose in business and life and joy in God’s promises. Gregory is the father of two daughters, ages 17 and 15, and has been married for 22 years to his best friend Kim. They live south of Nashville on a farm where they raise grass-fed beef and lamb. They love their lifestyle and are living their vision daily.   In 2007, Greg was told by a business partner that he was fat, and that was a pivotal moment in realizing that he needed to pay attention to his health. Greg started exercising and changing his diet. In 2017, Greg thought he was suffering from a heart attack but after weeks of cardiac investigation, it turned out that his spleen and liver were swollen, reactivated Epstein Barr virus, rocky mountain spotted fever and also strep throat. This led Greg to start on a more holistic journey. Greg talks about how going through this health scare opened his eyes to unforgiveness that he was holding on to in his life, and how he worked through the process of unforgiveness. Greg encourages others to have people around him or her to speak the truth in love that may not always say the things that you want to hear.  For those that are feeling stuck, Greg encourages you to ask if you are willing to do inside what it takes to make the change. Introduction message from the host of Business Playmakers podcast, Kyle Gorman. ~I am often asked whether we should be using personality assessments, such as Myers Briggs, in the hiring process and in hiring decisions. My belief is that it should not be a primary tool to be used in the hiring decision, but it is a great way to understand how to coach, manage, and communicate to someone you bring into your organization. There is an incredible value in understanding the personality of someone and how they are going to fit into the organization, however I am not a fan of putting a lot of weight into a personality assessment for the hiring decision. Today’s guest will talk about why it is beneficial to do these personality assessments, the DISC assessment specifically. Gregory talks about how you can use the DISC assessment to evaluate your own traits that you hadn’t analyzed or defined before. You can also use these assessments to analyze the personalities of the people on your team. This is an incredible value because as you learn to analyze the personalities of the people on your team, it will help open up channels of communication. It will also help you better understand ways to convey a message to someone, and how to receive a message from someone based on their personality. As a leader in your organization, it is incredibly important to learn how to adapt to these communication styles so that you can communicate your vision effectively. This is something you will never be able to effectively do that without understanding the personalities of your team. In this episode we will talk about people versus processes and how to effectively evaluate your team, and the communication gaps we sometimes face. ~ Business Playmakers podcast is excited to present the Owner and CEO of Gray Solutions LLC, Executive Life Coach, and Business Owner Freedom Podcast Host, Gregory Gray. Gregory spent the beginnings of his career in the corporate world, specifically in the manufacturing space. Like many entrepreneurs, Gregory saw a need for some things to be done differently which led to him stepping out of the corporate world in 2010 to be a Consultant for Leadership and Organizational Development. Since then, Gregory’s consulting firm has taken off and Gregory has a thriving business as an Executive Life Coach in which according to his LinkedIn profile, he seeks to educate and inspire while helping to build a life of joy and purpose. Gregory is also a Business Advisor for BusinessOwnerFreedom.com where he helps business owners to get control of their business so as to give them more freedom in the areas of time, money, and purpose.  As Kyle talks about in his opening dialogue, he and Gregory have in depth conversations around personality assessments, and how to effectively use them in business. Business Owner Freedom is a weekly podcast for created for small business owners.  Some of the podcasts are interviews and a portion are topic based.  We invite you to join us weekly to obtain multiple points of view. If you have specific questions, please reach out to us at askgreg@gregorygray.com.  Today is a solo cast entitled Isolation is the Enemy.   What is Isolation Isolation can be described as solitude, being alone, being cut off (just to mention a few).  Gregory explains the reasons many of us allow this to happen in our lives during this episode.  As someone who works with business owners, Gregory sees many of the struggles they are experiencing and that they often try to handle on their own and become isolated.  Business owners need to step out and get out from behind those things that cause them to be isolated. Be involved in a mastermind of business owners to network and share the daily struggles and gain advice. “It can be said that isolation is the enemy of improvement; it can also be said that isolation is the enemy of excellence; it can also be said that isolation is the enemy of growth; and it can also be said that isolation is the enemy of healing.” – Gregory Gray   Eliminate the Isolation Points in Your Life Gregory advises business owners to hire a business coach, hire a smart and capable CPA that understands your business and hire an attorney to have at your disposal to answer your questions so you don’t make mistakes.  These things alone will fasttrack your business in more ways than you can imagine. Joining a mastermind group also helps from being isolated. “I am part of a mastermind group that has taken me to the next level; it is called ISI or Iron Sharpens Iron and is a men’s based mastermind group from all walks of life and we meet weekly.  If you are interested in this mastermind you can go to viewfromthetop.com and Aaron Walker is the gentleman who runs this group.” – Gregory Gray   Step Out of Your Isolation Finding those people who will look you in the eye and tell you that you are going in the wrong direction in your business and discuss the reasons why and what else might be beneficial is crucial for business owners.  Mastermind colleagues will challenge you and affirm you. “I am asking you to step out of your isolation.  Look for a mastermind group. Look for a group of friends to be your virtual board of directors to run things by in your business.” – Gregory Gray   Trust You need to surround yourself with people you can trust.  People who will tell you the truth and help you when needed.  People you can confide in and help you steer your business in the right direction.  Look for the right fit in a mastermind and take your relationships to the next level. “There is no better friend than one that will tell you the truth.” – Gregory Gray If you have questions for us, you can submit those via email to askgreg@gregorygray.com.  You can also go to Businessownerfreedom.commastermind if you are interested in joining a mastermind of like-minded business owners.  Enjoy the Journey! If you have specific questions, please reach out to us at askgreg@gregorygray.com.     Not a Good Fit Gregory answers the question of an existing employee of several years not complying with the new culture initiative and the business’s new vision.  He explains at one time this employee was a good employee and met the standard and now the company is moving in a different direction and has implemented clear expectations.  The employee is struggling to meet expectations now and is not a good fit now since the business is following their vision. Greg says it’s imperative to address this behavior swiftly.   “If an employee whether they have been there ten plus years or whether they’ve been there only a few months and they don’t meet the values of the organization, there there is no fit.” – Gregory Gray   Addressing Non-Compliant Behavior It is essential to the culture of a business to address non-compliant behavior.  You must ask yourself the following: Have you made clear expectations? Does the employee understand the values? Is the employee capable? Business Owner Freedom advises to sit down with the employee and show them what expectations they are not meeting.  Give them a timeframe to improve and list the behaviors that must change. “As long as it’s nothing illegal, unethical or immoral, you can address it this way, First step is a verbal warning, second step is in writing and third step is termination.” – Gregory Gray   Hiring to Fit the Culture Gregory advises that you have a 7-12 step hiring process.  You will learn more about the candidate. Here are the three main steps that Greg uses: Background Checks Interview Process Assessments Always repeat the vision, values and expectations throughout the interviews.  Reach out to Gregory with questions at askgreg@gregorygray.com “It is easier to train skill, so hire on personalities, attitudes and culture fit.” – Gregory Gray To hear the details of hiring and firing for culture, download and listen to the episode!   Connect with Business Owner Freedom: Website LinkedIn Facebook   If you truly enjoyed the show, don't forget to leave a positive rating and review on iTunes.  We have prepared more episodes for the upcoming weeks, so come by again next week! From the leadership perspective, Gregory challenges the leader by asking if they are intentional about the culture in their business.  He also asks if you talk about the culture and do you have a clear list of values and a vision story that articulates what culture you want for your business. “Culture is the conscious of your business.” – Gregory Gray   Why Culture is the Big Differentiator Greg explains through visual examples to show that people and processes are key instruments in your business.  They must work congruently together and both must move in the same direction. As they work together it affects your purpose in business.  Purpose leads to profits and performance. “You will not achieve your purpose unless your people and processes are working congruently together.” – Gregory Gray   Building an Intentional Culture Business Owner Freedom focuses on being introspective as a leader.  You can change the culture of any business by setting your vision story and asking your team to uncover your blind spots as their leader.  Gregory also challenges listeners to take action by asking yourself as a leader the following questions: Do you have regularly established meetings? Have you asked your people about the culture of your business? If Gregory Gray were to walk into your business, what do you think he would garner about the culture? “You’re gonna have a culture whether you work on it or not so you might as well spend a little bit of time and intentional effort and have a great culture.” – Gregory Gray To hear more about Business Owner Freedom and to join other small business owners on their journey, download and listen to the episode!   Connect with Business Owner Freedom: Website LinkedIn Facebook   If you truly enjoyed the show, don't forget to leave a positive rating and review on iTunes.  We have prepared more episodes for the upcoming weeks, so come by again next week!
