Thanks to Jesse Richardson for discussion. Polymarket asks: will Jesus Christ return in 2025? In the three days since the market opened, traders have wagered over $100,000 on this question. The market traded as high as 5%, and is now stably trading at 3%. Right now, if you wanted to, you could place a bet that Jesus Christ will not return this year, and earn over $13,000 if you're right. There are two mysteries here: an easy one, and a harder one. The easy mystery is: if people are willing to bet $13,000 on "Yes", why isn't anyone taking them up? The answer is that, if you wanted to do that, you'd have to put down over $1 million of your own money, locking it up inside Polymarket through the end of the year. At the end of that year, you'd get 1% returns on your investment. Pro-housing advocates say they're thrilled with new regulations around Wellington's district plan. Newly signed off rules will allow for higher building limits and more townhouses in suburbs. It's despite a minor amendment to scrap the heritage listing of 10 buildings not being approved. Jesse Richardson from housing group A City For People told Mike Hosking that on balance, it's a win. He says the heritage failure is merely a drop in the bucket and this district plan will allow for thousands more houses in Wellington. Read the full transcript here. Have conspiracy theories been more prevalent, more persuasive, or more convoluted in the last few decades than at other points in human history? Is the presence of conspiracy theorists a feature of every society? The phrase "conspiracy theory" usually implies a false theory, even though some are eventually proven to be true; so how can we update our language to better differentiate between disconfirmed and not-yet-confirmed conspiracy theories? How can people who've really gone down a conspiracy theory rabbit hole come back back from the brink? More generally, what conditions need to be met for a person to change their mind about anything? What are the key motivators of conspiratorial thinking? Why do so many conspiracy theories incorporate strong antisemitic elements? To what degree are conspiracy theorists swayed by arguments from the requisite number of co-conspirators in a conspiracy? How should people research a conspiracy theory? Which personality traits are correlated with conspiratorial thinking? What's a good definition of wisdom? And how could wisdom help us combat the epistemic crisis through which we seem to be living right now? When, if ever, is it useful to approach a topic adversarially? Which would better mitigate the epistemic crisis: education reform or cultural change?Jesse Richardson is an internationally award-winning creative director and the founder of the nonprofit The School of Thought, which is dedicated to promoting critical thinking, reason, and understanding. In this episode Jesse Richardson tells us all about ConspiracyTest.org, a new project designed to be a weird, fun, and cleverly educational way to explore just how skeptical you are (and could be) about a variety of conspiracy theories. The whole thing is designed to be very sharable and very viral, and it's launching right before Thanksgiving 2023 so that you can share it with your conspiracy-theory-entertaining friends and family over the holidays, in person or over social media (but you should definitely try it out on yourself first).• Newsletter• School of Thought• The Conspiracy Test• Metaconspiracy• How Minds Change• David McRaney's Twitter• YANSS Twitter• Jesse Richardson's Website• Jesse Richardson's Twitter• Your Bias Is• Your Fallacy Is• Free Learning List• The Rules of Civil Conversation• Show Notes

In this episode, I have the absolute pleasure and quite honestly humbled to have back for part 2, a legend in the industry. This man has been around the subscription boxes since the beginning, and is a pioneer in the subscription industry. He has founded dozens of successful boxes, has probably contributed more articles and blogs then anyone else in the space, and continues to build his legacy today in beautiful Portland Oregon with his latest massive venture, The Brothers Apothecary. I have the honor of bringing back for Part 2 of our two part conversation, none other than Jesse Richardson!!!Jesse and I get into his story, how he became a subscription pioneer, all the businesses he's helped, his time at Cratejoy and Subscription School, and everything else he's learned along the way when it comes to subscriptions. We actually ended up talking shop and subscriptions so long, I decided to cut this episode in two parts. There was just way too much gold to pack into only one episode. So if you haven't already listened to Part 1, make sure to go back and listen to episode 181, which is the first part of our conversation. Jesse Richardson has probably started, helped start, and advised more subscription boxes than anyone I know. It all started in and around 2010 when he and his co-founders Bjorn Borstelmann and Jameson Morris (yes the Jameson Morris, founder of PirateShip), started Conscious box. Since then, he's founded and sold many many other subscriptions and has been featured as a public speaker, and in USA Today. He was the editor in chief to one of the largest publications online, and has helped raise over $2M in venture capital.Guest Links:Website: https://jesserichardson.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jessearichardson/IG: https://www.instagram.com/jarich31/Eric's Recommended Affiliate Courses & Resources:Eric and Christine's Ultimate Guide for Graphic Design for Your Subscription Box Business: https://www.thesubscriptionboxshow.com/resourcesJulie Ball's Subscription Box Bootcamp 2.0 Course Link:https://ericmusick.krtra.com/t/h67apnWbBQ9cThe Subscription Box Experts Academy Course By Liam Brennan Link: https://ericmusick.krtra.com/t/jIw4to2rXSoQ Megan MacNeill'sIndustry Leading LinkedIn Course: https://relevant-personal-branding.thinkific.com/?ref=fbfbc7 Host Links:The Subscription Box Show Website: https://www.thesubscriptionboxshow.comThe Subscription Box Show Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/thesubscriptionboxshow.comEric Musick's email: eric@thesubscriptionboxshow.comEric Musick's Instagram: @thesubscriptionboxshow or https://www.instagram.com/thesubscriptionboxshowThe Subscription Box Show Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2960087864057955/To request being on TSBS, please book a call with Eric at: https://www.calendly.com/thesubboxshow

This episode of Rationally Speaking features Jesse Richardson, a creative director who has been using his advertising background "for good and not for evil," as he puts it -- by building skeptic sites that go viral. Jesse's most famous creation is "Your Logical Fallacy Is," an illustrated poster featuring the names and descriptions of various common fallacies. Julia asks: Aren't many so-called logical fallacies not actually fallacious? Is encouraging people to call out fallacies helping rational discourse overall, or harming it? And is there a trade-off between accuracy and virality? Sped up the speakers by ['1.0', '1.0', '1.0']

After many years arguing with people who were wrong on the internet, Jesse Richardson realized that evidence and rationality were utterly useless in the face of entrenched beliefs and motivated reasoning. What he suddenly understood with great clarity, punctuated by the tangy sting of tartar sauce, was that the root cause of almost every problem in the world was nothing so complicated as money and power, but simply that most of us are never taught how to think independently and critically. So, after several months work, he launched a little microsite that took 24 of the most common fallacies of logic that politicians, the media, and advertisers use to deceive and manipulate people and made them something that wasn't entirely boring. Specifically, he took each fallacy and condensed it down into a single simple sentence that anyone could understand, added some nice graphics, and made the microsite URL interactive so that anyone could use it to tag someone committing a fallacy online e.g. yourfallacy.is/ad-hominem The yourfallacy.is website went immediately viral, hit the front page of reddit.com and the resources have reached at least 18 million students, teachers, parents, leaders, managers and everyday people around the world in over 7 languages Jesse's Links Web: https://jesserichardson.com.au Web: https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com Web: https://www.schoolofthought.org Twitter: https://twitter.com/jesserichardson And don’t forget to support the podcast by subscribing for free, reviewing, and sharing. I'm thrilled to have two guests on this episode of the podcast. We've got Texas-based attorney, Jim Bradbury, and West Virginia University Law Professor, Jesse Richardson, on the show to talk details, pros, and cons of conservation easements. Jim and Jesse have both done a good amount of work in this area, and while they agree on many issues, they have different perspectives on some areas as well. I'm confident this episode will be useful in learning about this important topic! Also, for the attorneys in the crowd, Jim refers to conservation easement work as "the extreme sport of lawyering." Today our topic is one near and dear to the heart of every legal nerd...regulatory takings. Folks are usually familiar with the idea of a taking where the government might come in and physically take property, like for a road. But there is another type of takings case, known as regulatory takings, where a government regulation can go so far that it is considered a taking for which a landowner is owed just compensation under the Constitution. Today, Professor Jesse Richardson and I will tackle this topic!
This episode is with social entrepreneur Jesse Richardson – the President and Co-Founder of MPACT Project. MPACT Project is building a movement of influencers that want to generate social change with business. Together they will mobilize people, communities, and resources to combat poverty, lack, and hopelessness. Jesse Richardson and Eric Welch became business partners with a vision to effectively solve social problems with the power of business. MPACT Project was founded to create sustainability for both villagers in Guatemala around the world. The direction of MPACT Project was sealed after a summer trip to Guatemala. MPACT Project is a social enterprise founded to create sustainability for both villagers in Guatemala and the contributors around the world. MPACT Project created the marketplace to generate sustainable change and help you, help the people living in poverty. MPACT Project allows you to choose a product that could massively impact and help people and a village in Guatemala. You “purchase” it, and then the product is made and deployed in the village. The products range from nutritional products, education, cook stoves and water filters. The best part is, the more you purchase and the more you share, the bigger an impact you can have. There are many ways to contribute and be involved in impact investing. Not everyone is a fund manager or an angel investor. MPACT Project is a way for the majority of people to get involved in using their money to have an impact in other parts of the world. As well, social enterprises such as MPACT Project are the types of companies that early stage impact investing can have a big impact. At #SOCAP15 – early stage impact capital was one of the most talked about and discussed “needs” in advancing the field. Social entrepreneurship is the other part of the #impinv equation. It is the business model that can have the biggest positive effect on the future. If you learn more about opportunities to use your money to have an everyday impact in South America, want to learn more about building a #socent or being a social entrepreneur, this is a great episode to check out. www.mpactproject.com Twitter @mpactproject Facebook: MPACT Project Facebook: Impact Investing Podcast Twitter @impinvpodcast www.impactinvestingpodcast.com
Grassroots Marketing with Jesse Richardson (CEO) and Shane Richardson (COO) from The Brothers Apothecary about their line CBD superfood infusions. The Brothers Apothecary is a wellness company that specializes in CBD superfood infusions. My brother Shane and I started the company in 2016, and we've grown from just a few items to a full catalog of organic CBD teas, adaptogenic cocoas, herbal capsules, and infused honeys, all of which can be found in hundreds of stores worldwide. Just recently, we opened a wellness cafe in Portland, Oregon where we serve all of this in a botanical coffee shop style. Shane Richardson has spent over 8 years working and managing cannabis businesses, and was one of the first CA residents to make use of Prop 215. He is a trained cannabis sommelier, with a wide knowledge of the endocannabinoid system and terpene profiles. Shane spearheads production quality & grassroots sales distribution at The Brothers.Jesse Richardson has spent over 10 years pioneering new e-commerce systems. He's founded over a ½ dozen companies with 7-figure run rates and has led teams of over 60 employees. Past partners have included Robert Earl, Reese Witherspoon, Amber Rose, Alexis Ren & many others. He currently studies Plant Based Medicine at Cornell University and is the chief formulator at The Brothers. They're excited to share a marketing goal for 4/20 this year: we're aiming to plant 42,000 trees through Trees for the Future (a regenerative agriculture + social capital planting model). We'll do this by pledging a portion of every purchase (every order plants 10 trees) + giving customers the chance to "Add Trees" to their carts on our website. Folks can also expect some awesome 4/20 deals and exclusives, so they'll want to head to our website and join our newsletter :) This kicks off on 3/20. Since 2011, they've planted over 100,000 trees while raising support for clean water initiatives, indigenous & communities of color, and investments in veteran organizations. Currently, I work directly with @PortlandsPantry, one of the fastest growing food pantries in the state of Oregon, located in the Lents neighborhood of SE Portland. Here, I've implemented box-building style technology to expand touchless food pick-up and delivery. This system now helps serve nearly 50,000 people per year, and has been utilized across Oregon by Oregon Food Bank, DHS, and additional pantries. The Brothers Apothecary distributes 60+ SKUs to over 400 stores nationally. The Brothers have been recognized as a top CBD company by publications like Dope Magazine, PopSugar and Newsweek.
