In this episode, Katie talks with Clare O'Donoghue Velikić about the shifting landscape of political advertising in Europe—and what's driving those changes. They trace how Brexit, the Cambridge Analytica scandal, and rising public scrutiny of tech platforms set the stage for today's regulatory environment. Clare breaks down the stark differences between U.S. and European campaign practices, the ripple effects of GDPR and data rules, and how policymakers are thinking about political communication in a post-scandal world. They also unpack Meta's recent decision to ban political ads in the EU, exploring why it matters, who it affects, and what transparency risks emerge when legitimate political messaging is pushed out of public view. The conversation offers a grounded look at the future of digital campaigning in Europe—and the tradeoffs ahead as platforms, regulators, and political actors navigate a rapidly changing system.Takeaways* Regulation intended to increase transparency can lead to less transparency.* Europe's political advertising landscape is significantly different from the US.* Data protection laws in Europe limit campaign strategies.* The early days of Facebook were marked by excitement and innovation.* The Cambridge Analytica scandal raised serious concerns about data use in politics.* Building political ad transparency tools was a complex process.* The current political ad ban in Europe poses risks to democratic discourse.* Extremist content may thrive in the absence of regulated political ads.* Finding a compromise between tech companies and regulators is crucial.* The removal of political ads silences moderate voices in social media.Chapters* 00:00 Introduction to Political Advertising in Europe* 03:38 Differences Between US and European Political Campaigning* 06:12 The Early Days of Facebook and Political Campaigning* 08:56 The Impact of Cambridge Analytica and Foreign Interference* 11:14 Building Political Ad Transparency Tools* 13:59 Challenges in Regulating Political Advertising* 16:49 Personal Experiences in Political Campaigning* 19:02 The Role of Data and Privacy in Political Advertising* 25:43 Political Ad Authorization and Campaign Dynamics* 29:29 Challenges of Political Advertising in Europe* 33:08 Meta's Political Ad Transparency Initiatives* 39:05 Impact of New Regulations on Political Advertising* 44:12 The Future of Political Advertising and Social Media* 48:53 The Role of Moderation in Social Discourse* 52:15 The Evolution of Political Advertising on Facebook* 52:44 Challenges of Transparency in Online AdsAnchor Change with Katie Harbath is a reader-supported publication. There's a crackdown on money laundering via real estate transactions. FinCEN (Financial Crimes Enforcement Network) is making new reporting requirements that affect real estate investors across the country, including here in Indianapolis and all of Indiana.FinCEN intention is to prevent illicit actors from using legal entities and trusts to anonymously launder illicit funds thru the US residential real estatemarket. Their goal is to identify individuals involved in the “entities”, by requiring industry reporting of very specific information for members, managers, trustees, etc. of the entity. The scope of the rule for reportable real estate transactions are as follows: 1. Property Type: Residential Real property2. Financing: non-financed (cash or private non-licensedlender)3. Transferee: Buyer is a legal entity or trust4. No exemption applies: not a result of transfer due todeath or divorceThere is no dollar amount threshold. All sales of Residential Real Property are reportable. This basically affects almost everyone in real estate to at least a certain degree.Brett Snodgrass talks to James Schultz of Momentum Title Agency about what this means in practical terms for everyone investing in real estate in Indianapolis and really all of Indiana.James Schultz is the Chairman of Government Affairs Committee for Indiana Land Title Association. James has spent a lot of time in Washington DC as this is a federal issue as well as state and local issue.James has spent many hours talking with attorney generals, state senators, state representatives and so many other officials and professionals that are weighing in on what legislation, regulations and practice changes will look like in the coming days. Many of these lawmakers and government regulators don't really understand what it's like to be an investor, nor do they understand how real estate investors, including wholesalers, positively impact the community.Investors help communities when they have good motives and practices. But there are also bad actors out there who give wholesalers, realtors and investors a bad image. This is such an important conversation to listen to. If you want to know what rule changes and new and developing regulations are and how they will impact your real estate business, then listen to this episode.JAMES SCHULTZ - MOMENTUM TITLE AGENCY: https://momentumclosings.com/teams/location/?company=6&location=Indy%20Main

There's Government confidence new energy sector regulations will pressure down power prices. Under Electricity Authority rule changes, our big four power companies must charge everyone the same price for supplying energy. It's to stop the big gentailers giving themselves power discounts - and getting a competitive edge. Energy Minister Simon Watts says it levels the playing field. "The fact that these big gentailers can, in effect, cross-subsidise themselves means that the smaller players aren't getting a fair deal. These rules will stop them doing that, and as a result, we'll see more competition." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Small Businesses Seek AI Efficiency Amid Digital Gaps; New Regulations Impact Data Privacy

Small businesses are increasingly recognizing the need for digital maturity and the potential benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance operational efficiency. A recent report from the National Federation of Independent Business reveals that while a significant majority of small business owners have websites, only a small fraction accept online payments. This gap highlights a pressing need for integrated e-commerce solutions that not only enable payment processing but also align with the workflows of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The report indicates that many SMBs are eager to adopt technology that addresses specific pain points, with a notable percentage already utilizing AI for communication and marketing tasks. The concept of agentic AI presents a substantial growth opportunity within the technology sector, particularly for partners over the next few years. However, the adoption of agentic AI varies significantly across different market segments, with large enterprises focusing on building ecosystems around major platforms, while SMBs are more likely to adopt AI through software-as-a-service solutions. Despite the potential, a report from Gartner warns that a significant percentage of agentic AI projects may fail due to factors such as rising costs and immature use cases. This underscores the importance of informed decision-making and practical applications of AI technology.Regulatory changes are also shaping the landscape for businesses, particularly concerning data privacy and governance. Creative Commons has launched an initiative called CC Signals to create a framework for sharing datasets in the age of AI, addressing concerns about data accessibility and ethical practices. Meanwhile, a recent Supreme Court ruling in the U.S. mandates age verification for websites with sexual content, raising alarms about internet privacy and the potential risks to personal data security. These developments signal a shift in the regulatory environment, emphasizing the need for businesses to prioritize compliance and data governance as core components of their operations. In the realm of technology solutions, several companies are introducing AI-powered tools aimed at improving IT support workflows and cybersecurity measures. TeamViewer has launched TeamViewer Intelligence, which enhances remote support capabilities, while Hornet Security has introduced AI Cyber Assistant tools to bolster security for SMBs. Additionally, acquisitions such as Grammarly's purchase of SuperHuman and Comet Backup's acquisition by WebPros reflect strategic moves to enhance service offerings and integrate communication tools. As the market evolves, IT service providers must leverage these advancements to create higher-margin service offerings and ensure they remain competitive in an increasingly AI-driven landscape.  Four things to know today  00:00 SMBs Want Efficiency: AI Uptake Grows Yet Few Accept Payments Online05:37 Creative Commons Moves to Safeguard Data Commons in the AI Age08:01 TeamViewer, Addigy, and Calyptix Roll Out MSP-Centric AI and Cloud Solutions11:29 Grammarly, WebPros, and LevelBlue Deals Show Strategic Consolidation Across Tech Sectors  This is the Business of Tech.     Supported by:  https://cometbackup.com/?utm_source=mspradio&utm_medium=podcast&utm_campaign=sponsorship All our Sponsors: https://businessof.tech/sponsors/ Do you want the show on your podcast app or the written versions of the stories? New rules come in tomorrow, including stricter advertising restrictions for vape retailers and a ban on disposable vapes Aspire Aotearoa Tobacco Control's Doctor Jude Ball says non-compliance is a problem overseas. But she says the number of enforcement agents has increased, so she's expecting the rules to be enforced. "These measures are designed to protect children and young people from a predatory industry, so without that enforcement, they're really meaningless." Is the American Dream under attack through new labor regulations? The gig economy has become a lifeline for millions, but growing government restrictions threaten to shut it down - affecting everyone from Uber drivers to specialized contractors. Find out why one political commentator believes Trump's labor secretary nominee might be a dangerous pick. Studio Sponsor: Cardio Miracle - "Unlock the secret to a healthier heart, increased energy levels, and transform your cardiovascular fitness like never before.": https://www.briannicholsshow.com/heart In this eye-opening episode of The Brian Nichols Show, host Brian Nichols welcomes Victoria Snitsar Churchill, a political journalist and young voices contributor, to discuss the threats facing America's 60 million gig workers. Victoria shares her personal journey using contract work throughout her career - from college journalism to launching her own podcast with specialized contractors - highlighting how the gig economy creates opportunities that traditional employment cannot. The conversation explores California's AB5 legislation that devastated independent contracting opportunities and the concerning "ABC test" that forces workers into traditional employment regardless of their preferences. Victoria reveals how Trump's labor secretary nominee Lori Chavez-DeRemer's past support for anti-contractor legislation has raised serious concerns among conservatives and libertarians about the administration's commitment to worker freedom. Brian and Victoria examine the bizarre alliance between big labor unions, big government, and even some Republicans in restricting worker choice. They break down why this matters: when workers can't freely choose how they earn a living, they lose opportunities to pay bills, develop new skills, and pursue the American Dream on their own terms. The discussion challenges the outdated "status quo" mindset that assumes everyone should work traditional 9-5 jobs for 40 years. Follow Victoria's continuing coverage of this issue on Twitter @snits_churchy, and check out her podcast "Freedom Shots" for more liberty-minded discussion. Whether you're a gig worker, supporter of economic freedom, or simply concerned about government overreach, this conversation reveals why protecting independent contracting isn't just about economics - it's about preserving fundamental American freedoms. ❤️ Order Cardio Miracle (https://www.briannicholsshow.com/heart) with code TBNS at checkout for 15% off and take a step towards better heart health and overall well-being!

Is 2025 the right time to jump into the short-term rental (STR) game? It's a question I get asked a lot, especially as the STR market continues to evolve. With rising competition, new regulations, and changing guest expectations, it's natural to wonder if Airbnb is still a good investment. The truth is, while the industry has shifted, the opportunity to create a profitable Airbnb business is very much alive—if you know how to adapt. After nearly a decade in the short-term rental space, I've learned that success isn't just about having a great property—it's about understanding the trends, navigating challenges, and offering an experience that keeps guests coming back. Today, I'll share an honest look at the current state of the Airbnb market in 2025. We'll talk about key factors like market saturation, guest preferences, and the impact of new tools and technology. Whether you're considering starting your first Airbnb or scaling an existing short-term rental business, I'll help you decide if 2025 is still the right time to jump in—and how to do it profitably. Let's get started! In this episode, you'll learn: Competition Is Rising: With more people entering the STR space, market saturation is a real challenge in some areas. That's why finding a unique selling point (like a killer design or standout amenities) is more important than ever. Guest Expectations Are Changing: Today's travelers are looking for more than just a place to sleep—they want unique, Instagram-worthy stays with all the comforts of home. Use tools like my Recommended Resources to help you stand out. New Regulations in Some Markets: From city-specific rules to stricter licensing, it's important to research regulations in your target market before you invest. These rules can impact profitability, so do your homework. Technology Can Be a Game-Changer: From dynamic pricing tools like PriceLabs to automated guest communication, leveraging the right tools will save you time and help maximize profits. Opportunities Are Still Out There: Even with challenges like competition and regulations, demand for short-term rentals remains strong in the right markets. Focus on high-demand locations and offer something guests can't find elsewhere. So, is starting an Airbnb in 2025 still worth it? The answer really depends on your strategy, market, and willingness to adapt to changes. Short-term rentals are still a great way to generate income, but success comes down to planning and execution.   Need help managing your short-term rental and you don't want to go it alone? Shoot us a message here and we'll see if we can help. Hey everyone, Michael LaFido here! I'm excited to share the latest developments from our recent podcast episode, featuring the extraordinary Jay Macklin. Jay's journey from Michigan to establishing a thriving luxury real estate brokerage in Arizona is nothing short of inspirational. First off, let's talk about an important update in the real estate world: Starting August 17, there's a new US requirement for buyers to have a written agreement to schedule private showings of homes. This stems from a settlement between the NAR and the Department of Justice. If you're booking a public open house, no agreement is necessary. This new rule impacts commission structures and adds a layer of complexity for us agents, but it's all about adapting and staying ahead in the game. Jay Macklin, our special guest, has been a force in luxury real estate since 2010, focusing primarily on North Scottsdale. He's all about personal branding and creating unique selling propositions to stand out. He highlights the significance of consistency, creative messaging, and building strong client relationships. Jay's approach aligns perfectly with the principles I discuss in my book, “Secret to Top Luxury Agents,” available now on freeluxurybook.com—grab your copy, just cover the shipping fee! A fascinating topic we covered is the different dynamics within luxury markets. Transitioning into luxury real estate, especially if you're new to an area, requires understanding client needs and preferences. Jay's experience reinforces that adapting marketing strategies and maintaining a high level of personal branding are key to success. Speaking of branding, we've got some awesome news—our luxury listing specialist gear is now available at luxuryspecialsgear.com. From T-shirts to planners, we have it all to keep you stylish while you close those high-end deals. In today's competitive market, setting yourself apart is crucial. What's your unique strategy? How do you ensure clients remember you? Whether it's your negotiation skills or your standout marketing materials, remain consistent and innovative. And hey, if you're curious about effective listing presentations and more, don't miss our daily themes like 'Mindset Monday' and 'Tips Tuesday' on our YouTube channel. As we wrap up the year, let's stay connected and express our gratitude—to our clients, colleagues, and everyone who supports us. It's not just about business; it's about building enduring relationships. Make it a great day, and stay tuned for more exciting updates and insights! Keep pushing the envelope, and let's make waves in the luxury real estate market!

In this episode of the Trucking for Millennials podcast, I had the pleasure of hosting Brandon Wiseman, an expert in transportation law and compliance. Brandon shared his insights from the Truck Safe Live podcast and discussed key regulatory trends in the trucking industry. We covered a range of important topics including highway safety, personal conveyance, the truck parking crisis, tort law reform, ELDs, and speed limiters. We kicked off the episode by reflecting on the recent election results and their potential impact on the trucking industry. With Donald Trump winning the presidency and the Republicans holding the House and Senate, we speculated on possible regulatory changes and what they could mean for logistics businesses. Brandon provided a deep dive into the importance of staying compliant with DOT safety regulations, especially for new motor carriers. He emphasized the severe consequences of non-compliance, including hefty fines and potential shutdowns. We also discussed the critical issue of highway accident exposure and the rising trend of nuclear verdicts against trucking companies. One of the most engaging parts of our conversation was about personal conveyance, a gray area in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Brandon explained the complexities and the potential for misuse, advising fleets to either turn off the option or implement strict controls. We also touched on the truck parking shortage, a significant issue for drivers that impacts their ability to comply with hours of service regulations. Brandon highlighted the efforts being made to address this problem, including grant money awarded to states by the USDOT. Finally, we looked ahead to the new administration and what it might mean for trucking regulations. Brandon shared his thoughts on the potential for fewer new regulations and a focus on reviewing existing ones, drawing parallels to the previous Trump administration's approach. Overall, this episode was packed with valuable insights for anyone in the trucking industry, from drivers to fleet managers. Brandon's expertise provided a comprehensive look at the current regulatory landscape and what we might expect in the near future.

A new U.S. AI security framework has been introduced, emphasizing the importance of innovation, compliance, and national defense. The episode highlights a playbook from the International Data Corporation that outlines the role of Chief Artificial Intelligence Officers (CAIOs) in guiding public sector agencies through the integration of AI and machine learning. Key findings from the report reveal that many agencies are prioritizing generative AI projects while facing challenges such as a shortage of in-house expertise. The episode also delves into the prevalence of shadow AI, with a study indicating that half of all employees use non-company-issued AI tools. Despite recognizing the risks associated with these tools, many employees are reluctant to stop using them. The discussion emphasizes the need for organizations to develop and communicate AI governance policies that allow for secure, company-approved tools while educating employees about the implications of unapproved AI use. The potential for turning shadow AI from a risk into an asset is explored, suggesting that formalizing processes can benefit both employees and organizations. In addition to AI governance, the episode covers significant developments in national security related to AI. The Biden administration has released its first national security memorandum focused on AI, aiming to maintain U.S. leadership in AI development while safeguarding human rights. The memorandum outlines provisions for enhancing national AI research resources and increasing cybersecurity collaboration with the private sector. It also introduces a framework for identifying high-risk AI use cases, similar to the European Union's AI Act, and encourages government agencies to accelerate their AI technology deployments.Lastly, the episode addresses the recent Right to Repair exemption granted by the U.S. Copyright Office, which allows for the repair of food service equipment, thereby benefiting independent repair shops and franchise owners. This decision is seen as a pivotal moment for the repair economy, potentially creating specialized roles within the food service sector. The episode concludes with a discussion on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's warning regarding the misuse of digital surveillance and AI tools in the workplace, emphasizing the need for compliance and transparency in the use of such technologies. Four things to know today00:00 Public and Private Sectors Grapple with AI Governance: CAIOs Lead the Way, Shadow AI Spurs New Risks04:42 New U.S. AI Security Framework Emphasizes Innovation, Compliance, and National Defense Against Global Competition06:56 Right-to-Repair Exemption for Food Service Equipment Opens Doors for Independent Repairs and Franchise Flexibility08:25 AI and Digital Surveillance in the Workplace Under Scrutiny as CFPB and States Ramp Up Compliance Expectations  Supported by:  https://www.huntress.com/mspradio/https://mspradio.com/engage/   All our Sponsors: https://businessof.tech/sponsors/ Do you want the show on your podcast app or the written versions of the stories?
