In the 2nd episode of today Craig was joined by 3x PGA Tour title winner & 1x Korn Ferry Tour winner & long time PGA Tour pro Jim Herman who gives in his own words a brilliant analogy of his long 23 year pro career from the highs and the lows of a PGA Tour professional.    Born in Cincinnati, Ohio Jim turned pro in 2000 is the winner of 2010 Moonah  Classic on the Nationwide Tour (KFT) in Australia beating Chris Kirk in a playoff, the winner of 2016 Shell Houston Open defeating 2016 Open Champion Henrik Stenson by 1 shot his 1st win as a PGA Tour player, he then followed that up with 2 more PGA Tour wins at 2019 Barbasol Championship in Kentucky at -26 & 2020 Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield CC in North Carolina.    Jim worked as a Assistant Club Pro at Trump National Bedminster and is friends with Donald Trump himself having played plenty of rounds with the former US President in the past. Jim is a loving family man and now resides in Pennsylvania after moving last year from Palm Beach, Florida.   This was a great interview with a 3x PGA Tour winner. I hope you all enjoy, subscribe and listen in. Thanks Jim   This show is brought to you in association with Golf Tips Checker.

This Friday episode is another AM recording to work around the overnight Olympics, which Andy and Brendan immediately jump into at the top. They start with the peculiar decision not to play more than 18 holes per day that has brought in the possibility of a 54-hole event, and the uncertainty it has created around the last two rounds. Then they opt to talk not about the favorite in first, but the current silver-medal position holder Aditi Ashok, who is hanging in there despite an extreme distance disadvantage. There is, of course, a segment praising Nelly Korda but also cautioning against again forgone gold. In Memphis, they discuss the “Summer of Harris,” Jim Herman's run at the WGC title, and the Thicc Boi's altruism of not taking vaccines out of the general supply. At the Home of Golf, they re-visit and root on an old friend and first original guest on the SGS. They close with a Precision Pro Flashback Friday that hits on one astounding stat and a former winner in Memphis who nearly missed his Sunday tee time because he was watching a space launch.

It’s Friday night at the Masters! Andy and Brendan react to the 85th edition of the tournament at its midpoint, beginning with Justin Rose hanging on to his lead against a loaded gaggle of chargers. Ian Woosnam’s battle to make the cut becomes a prominent topic perhaps far too early in the show, but his bench-sitting practices needed to be discussed. They delight in Si Woo Kim’s putter outburst that had him near the lead in the Masters and putting with his 3-wood. Also covered are the moves by Spieth, JT, Zalatoris, and Bryson’s fight despite his grievance that he can’t use his “calibration devices” at Augusta National. They discuss two listener-proposed theories -- is Zalatoris unburdened by having no points to protect and is there a PAC curse? An MC Hammer segment focuses on DJ and Rory, who might be lost. Flashback Friday goes back only a matter of hours, as the great Jim Herman, who made the cut at the Masters, calls in to talk to two idiots about the course conditions and playing with a game Woosie for the first 36 holes.

For my money, building a successful career on the PGA Tour where you earn enough money that you're not worried about your next check, where you're not consistently losing your card, and you're able to control your schedule, is as tough as making it any sport out there.  There are no guaranteed contracts.  There are no drafts, trades, or free agencies.  There's you and your game vs. the best players in the world.  And if you don't play well enough, your career is over. So if you manage to put together 10+ years on the PGA Tour that include 3 wins, you have a career that a lot of tour players would love to have.  And if you know where Jim Herman came from and his path to the tour, his career is even more impressive.  Jim always aspired to be on the PGA Tour, so he left college and hit the mini-tours.  Each fall he'd go to PGA Tour Qualifying School, and for six years in a row, he failed to make it to the final stage and get out at least to the Nationwide Tour, now the Korn Ferry Tour.  In between trips to Q school, he worked as a Golf Professional doing all of the duties that so many of us do each and every day, running clinics, placing orders, teaching lessons, and everything else.  And that's where I met Jim. In 2006 and 2007, we were Assistant Professionals together in New Jersey and at that time, while Jim still felt strongly about chasing his dream of making it to the tour, reality was getting close to setting in.  Was life going to be playing and competing as a Club Professional and always wishing his dream came true?  Or could he actually make it out there? In 2007, he finally made it through.  He had status on the Nationwide Tour.  A couple years later, he notched a win on that tour and made it to the big leagues.  There were plenty of bumps in the road that ensued, lots of ups and downs, lessons learned, and as Jim says...definitely some luck too.  But as we enter the 2021 PGA Tour season, he's still out there.  He's exempt for two more seasons after his third career win last summer and at this point, life is good.  He's as humble as they come and that's why he's easy to root for.  I hope after this conversation you become a fan as well.  We get into some great insight into how he's handled these pressure situations that feel like life or death at the time.  He's a throwback to a former era before players relied on data, stats, and a coach standing behind them 24/7.  He's proof that there are a lot of different ways to get it done out there, and more proof that through hard work, belief, and persistence, dreams can come true.www.golfprofessionalgrowth.comAre you using Golf Genius Software for your event management?  www.golfgenius.com

The leaderboard at the 2020 Wyndham Championship was close as the tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina approached the back nine on Sunday. Jim Herman was able to shoot 63 on Sunday to close out the win. Billy Horschel, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson, Doc Redman, S. Woo Kim, Harold Varner III and Zach Johnson had great tournaments. Zach Johnson shot a 61 on Saturday to get his tournament on track and was able to win enough FedEx Points to qualify for the playoffs starting next week at Northern Trust at TPC Boston. Pat Reed had a T9 finish for several good weeks in a row of ball striking. Brooks Koepka missed the cut on Friday after a good tournament on the PGA Championship with a disappointing Sunday finish. He will still be playing next week at TPC Boston for the Northern Trust playoff. We had a great time chatting about the Wyndham Championship and look forward to chatting Northern Trust TPC Boston early next week. Cheers. Our golf cup runneth over in this lengthy Monday episode. Brendan and Andy begin with the U.S. Amateur, which served as a backdrop for the telling of the Strafaci family history. The tortoise-like pace of play is discussed as are the foggy playing conditions, which had some pros on Twitter hollering should have caused a stoppage. There’s also an attempt to explain why watching this at this venue was so captivating, even against a major championship last week. The caddie sand antics from the end of last week are also discussed in detail, as both Brendan and Andy re-live some of their worst caddie mistakes and also have a few questions for how this looper got on a bag in the U.S. Am. Some Ladies Scottish Open discussion leads to Andy going deep down a rabbit hole on the cost of buying your own hot air balloon, the profession of hot air balloon “pilot,” and other hot air balloon topics. The Wyndham review focuses on the amazing career arc of Jim Herman, the Spieth microscope, a nailbiter at the Parsons house, Si Woo’s odd course management, and the failure of the Wyndham Rewards. The Senior Players chat is mostly cause to tell another Monty weight loss story and also how brutal that course looks for the senior pros. On the KFT, they ask if Stephan Jaeger is the greatest player of all time on that Tour after another win.

Such as: Newcomer Kevin Kisner, Jordan Spieth going for back-to-back Masters titles, Rory McIlroy trying to complete the major grand slam, Jason Day going for back to back majors or three consecutive PGA Tour wins. Then their is fan favorite Phil Mickelson's continued quest to get the green jacket once again. Dr. Bob explains that players are fighting not only the battle in their own mind, but they and others expectations. The mental and emotional jousting along with a lot of great golf. The duo talk about the Masters' Par 3 contest had 9 hole-in-ones including back-to-back aces on the same hole by Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler. Gary Player had an ace on the first hole at 80-years-young.  Garry Smits, Florida Times Union in Jacksonville, calls in from the press room at Augusta National. Garry said that there has been a lot of discussion about whether some of the players have over prepared or under prepared. The Masters has the best practice area in the world. Jason Day had mentioned that you can be out there all day and leave your game on the range. Dr Bob asks Garry about that premise. Garry feels that the way that you beat this course is to play it over and over, instead of spending hours on the practice greens and driving ranges. Holly talks to Garry about the weather at Augusta for the week of the Masters.  Smits mentions that the greens are firm and fast. He thinks the wind might be the issue more than the rain. The wind players and the Europeans and someone like Rickie Fowler have the advantage typically with these conditions. Holly asks about Jim Herman's win at the Shell Houston Open last week that earned him the final spot for this year's Masters tournament. There were some really good golfers in the field that Herman beat. Gary said that Herman has played a lot of golf and is 38 years old. Gary said that his pick is Bubba Watson to win his third Green Jacket this week. SwingClick PLUS, one of the #1 training devices on Amazon.com. Master your timing, temp and rhythm with SwingClick. Mike Weir, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson are three left handed golfers who have won The Masters.  Holly asks Kevin Sternett, who has been to Augusta six times, about his experience at Augusta many years ago. Dr Bob talks about the undulations and the slope of the greens at Augusta and how they are different than other courses. Steve Eubanks, Global Golf Post, calls in from Augusta after spending time at the ANA Inspiration the week before won by Lydia Ko. Her second major championship at the age of 18. Steve talks about that Ko isn't the most powerful golfer on the LPGA, but she is one of the most consistent players on the tour. Dr Bob talks to Steve about the demeanor of Lydia and that is what separates her from the field. Steve said that he feels that Jason Day or Bubba Watson to win the Masters this week. Kip Ingle calls in from The Golf Auction to wrap up the show and talks about some vintage golf collectibles and memorabilia. The actual ball that Cary Middlecoff used to win the 1955 Masters. Arnold Palmer's 1958 ball he used to win the Masters. A first edition of Down The Fairway that is autographed are just some of the items you can bid on.
