HOLD ON TO YOUR BUTTS!I'm back and big mad after the recent discovery of a certain foundation that isrequesting patron donations and claiming they are going to raise the Titanic in 5 parts. After reaching out to contacts, reading NOAA documentation, and getting confirmation from RMST, I am taking to the mic to blow the lid off this and raise something more important first... awareness on the probability of this EVER happening and where your money would be going. The Presidential election of 1912 was an unusual moment in American history. It featured an embattled incumbent President facing criticism from his former allies. It offered voters a choice between the sitting President and his predecessor. And when it was all done, the two men who had previously won the Presidency found themselves bested by a college professor with just a few years of experience in politics. So why did the predecessor, Teddy Roosevelt, become so critical of the incumbent, William Howard Taft, that he decided to break away from the Republican party to run against him? Why did the Democrats pick relative newcomer Woodrow Wilson to be their Presidential Candidate ? And is 1912 an example of how a third-party candidate can spoil an election? Let's find out. Welcome to The Road To Now's Third Party Elections Series. Today: Part 3- The Election of 1912 with Michael Cullinane. Dr. Michael Patrick Cullinane is Lowman Walton Chair of Theodore Roosevelt Studies at Dickinson State University and the author of multiple books, including Theodore Roosevelt's Ghost: The History and Memory of an American Icon (LSU Press, 2017). You can also hear him on his bi-weekly podcast The Gilded Age and Progressive Era, available anywhere you get The Road to Now. We are recognizing the 110th anniversary of the Titanic tragedy that occurred in 1912. A Night to Remember (1958) is a critically acclaimed film based off of Walter Lord's book of the same name; it has been noted for its incredible accuracy in detailing the events that lead to this ship's demise. We discuss not only elements of the movie, but the real events that took place on that devastating April night. Although this story is heartbreaking, it also features enormous stories of courage and compassion in the face of adversity. We truly found this film inspiring and hope you'll join us as we recall A Night to Remember (1958). The long awaited season 1 finale has arrived!! After a few weeks of life set backs, I got back in the booth to recount my recent visit to the Las Vegas Titanic Artifact Exhibit. Join me as I retrace my steps through the experience, recount this first season of "Tea-Tanic", and look straight ahead at whats coming in season 2! Much love and thanks for all of my previous guests: Kjerstin & Danny Scheyer, James Penca, Adara Bryan, Simon Medhurst, Jim Myers, Angelica Harris, Adrian Saker, & Chelsea Pinkard!
WARNING: This episode contains explicit language of the sexual nature due to direct quotation of the show and commentary on the material in "Titanique". After a year of Broadway being dark, it was no surprise that Adara and I were THRILLED to be able to purchase tickets and watch a a live streamed performance of a new parody musical that just so happened to be a parody of Titanic (1997). Welp, the show wasn't all smooth sailing, and certainly was not spared a disastrous end. I am a firm believer that comedy should punch up, make your audience connect the dots, don't just drown them in d**k jokes.
Hang out with my new Titanic bestie Chelsea and I as we gush about Titanic historical fiction books, cringe at Titanic ASMR (WHAT?!), marvel over Titanic inspired music, Taylor Swift, The Queen Mary, and so so much more! It's our longest episode yet, friends, but I swear its worth every minute! After you listen, give Chelsea a follow on social media (@thetitanicgirlblog) or visit her blog directly at www.titanicgirlblog.com to keep up with Titanic book reviews, music and more!
It's the weekend after the 109th Anniversary and I've got another great guest. Joining me is Titanic Museum's Education Executive, James (Jim) Myers. Sit in and sip some tea with us as we talk about what visitors of both museum locations can expect, the education & outreach programs offered for students, I ask questions about ghosts (because of course I do), and I learn how Anne Frank was connected to The Ship of Dreams.
109 years ago…… At 11:40PM on April 14th, Titanic met her match, in the shape of an iceberg. At 2:20 AM April 15th, after only 5 days on the sea, she slipped beneath never to see the light of day again.Living forever in a perpetual world of darkness…..In memory of the 1,496 who didn't make it...In a special memorial episode of The Movie Commentary Podcast, I bring you the episode that I have been waiting to do ever since I saw this podcast. James Cameron's film Titanic became a landmark point in film history when it was released in 1997. It became the first film to gross over $1 billion at the box office. It held the record for highest grossing film of all time for over 10 years. It tied the record for most Oscars won for a film (11). It is also seen by many as one of film's last great epics. Movies that are made on a big scale, with giant set pieces and thousands of extras. For fans of the actual ship itself, it brought the ship back to life. Never before had people seen the RMS Titanic sail in beautiful sunlight in living moving color. It brought us the joys of sailing to a new world for hundreds of immigrants. It brought us the elegance of the first class. It brought us the suspense of hoping, pleading that she would somehow miss the iceberg. It brought us the crushing realization that this beautiful ship, thought to be unsinkable by some, is going to sink. It brought us the horror of how terrible that night must have been for those who couldn't get a lifeboat. And finally, it brought us the grief and sadness that the real passengers felt when they realized the people they grew to love didn't make it. Simply put, no movie, no experience puts you on Titanic like this movie does.Listen along as we dive into several key components of this great film. From several key historical events to fictional components to interesting behind the scenes stories, this is an episode you won't want to miss.Apple Podcasts:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcast/id1526950957 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1RLQAkNzaWQoVBLBZITNSCYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRxehtzRCZ4qjfLTMDIClbw/Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-347499519hGoogle Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8zMDExNGVmYy9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw?sa=X&ved=0CAIQ4aUDahcKEwjol9z975HrAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQBQStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcastiHeart Radio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1248-the-movie-commentary-podc-71326635/
