THE QUEER AWAKENINGS OF A WILD BOY PURSUING THE NOVA EXPRESSOn September 6, 1951, William Burroughs killed his wife, Beat legend Joan Vollmer. At a friend's apartment, she balanced a glass on her head, at Burroughs's behest. He had contracted a lifelong mania for guns from duck-hunting excursions with his father, and was never unarmed if he could help it. He fired a pistol from about nine feet away. The bullet struck Vollmer in the forehead, at the hairline. She was twenty-eight. He was devastated, but readily parroted a story supplied by his lawyer, a flamboyant character named Bernabé Jurado: the gun went off accidentally. Released on bail, Burroughs might have faced trial had not Jurado, in a fit of road rage, shot a socially prominent young man and, when his victim died of septicemia, fled the country. Burroughs did the same, and a Mexican court convicted him in absentia of manslaughter, sentencing him to two years. In the introduction to “Queer,” Burroughs disparages his earlier work and adds, “I am forced to the appalling conclusion that I would never have become a writer but for Joan's death,” because it initiated a spiritual “lifelong struggle, in which I have had no choice except to write my way out.”“There is no intensity of love or feeling that does not involve the risk of crippling hurt. It is a duty to take this risk, to love and feel without defense or reserve.”― William S. Burroughs“Silence is only frightening to people who are compulsively verbalizing.”― William S. Burroughs, The Job: Interviews with William S. Burroughs“Nobody owns life, but anyone who can pick up a frying pan owns death.”― William S. Burroughs“Hustlers of the world, there is one mark you cannot beat: the mark inside.”― William S. Burroughs“Desperation is the raw material of drastic change. Only those who can leave behind everything they have ever believed in can hope to escape. ”― William S. Burroughs“I don't care if people hate my guts; I assume most of them do. The important question is whether they are in a position to do anything about it.”― William S. Burroughs“A paranoid is someone who knows a little of what's going on. A psychotic is a guy who's just found out what's going on.”― William S. Burroughs“Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer.”― William S. Burroughs“Whether you sniff it smoke it eat it or shove it up your ass the result is the same: addiction.”― william s. burroughs“You were not there for the beginning. You will not be there for the end. Your knowledge of what is going on can only be superficial and relative”― William S. Burroughs, Naked Lunch: The Restored Text“The first and most important thing an individual can do is to become an individual again, decontrol himself, train himself as to what is going on and win back as much independent ground for himself as possible”― William S. Burroughs“If I had my way we'd sleep every night all wrapped around each other like hibernating rattlesnakes.”― William S. Burroughs“I am not one of those weak-spirited, sappy Americans who want to be liked by all the people around them. I don't care if people hate my guts; I assume most of them do. The important question is whether they are in a position to do anything about it. My affections, being concentrated over a few people, are not spread all over Hell in a vile attempt to placate sulky, worthless shits.”― William S. Burroughs“When you stop growing you start dying.”― William S. Burroughs, Junky

In the remote outback of Victoria in 1993, Ralph Vollmer believed his wife, Joan, was possessed. Ralph enlisted members of his local religious community to perform an exorcism, hoping to rid Joan of the ten demons they believed controlled her. What followed was a horrific four-day ordeal that ended in Joan’s death. Margaret Thanos is the director of Furious Mattress, a play based on Joan Vollmer’s tragic story. It raises the question: what are the ethics of turning a real-life tragedy into entertainment? You can find tickets to see Furious Mattress here. On February 1st, 1993, a minister was summoned to a house off Dimboola Road in the outback town of Antwerp, Australia. When he arrived, he was greeted by a man named David Klingner, who said, “It's a long story,” as he led the pastor into the house. Inside, the minister was overcome by a foul stench. Blowflies were buzzing around the house, attracted to the putrid smell of decay. The minister was pretty confident that whoever they had called him for was beyond saving. He made his way past a group of people who were calmly eating their lunch at the kitchen table into a bedroom where the swollen remains of 49-year-old Joan Vollmer lay fully dressed on a mattress. The minister immediately phoned the police, and a constable was sent to the house. When Constable Michael Arnott arrived, he spoke to the dead woman's husband, 54-year-old pig farmer Ralph Vollmer. After just a few moments, the constable understood the situation as thus: Ralph's wife had been possessed by ten different demons, and she had died as a result of her “deliverance,” otherwise known as an exorcism.Join Jen and Cam as they discuss “The Fatal Exorcism of Joan Vollmer.”Promo by our friend Edward October from Octoberpod AM.Be sure to catch his newest spooky tale, “The Spirit Doll: A Halloween Fantasia,” on October 24!Written and researched by Lauretta AllenListener Discretion by Edward October from OctoberpodVHSExecutive Producer Nico Vitesse of The Inky Paw PrintSources:https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/211590852/joan-vollmerhttps://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/the-creepy-australian-country-house-abandoned-after-joan-vollmers-terrifying-death-when-an-exorcist-tried-to-rid-her-of-demons/QSK4KYGCVHVSUMXGBUDKS7C4VA/https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/national/the-victorian-woman-who-died-after-a-fourday-exorcism/news-story/884b0b37067ce3bfad090c45c29283cchttps://casefilepodcast.com/case-128-joan-vollmer/https://forgottenillawarra.wordpress.com/2014/08/21/a-terrible-exorcism/https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/127247897https://www.newspapers.com/image/120622909/?terms=Joan%20Vollmer%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/120621692/?terms=Joan%20Vollmer%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/120464050/?terms=Joan%20Vollmer%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/120627676/?terms=Joan%20Vollmer%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/120758486/?terms=Joan%20Vollmer%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/829130835/?terms=Joan%20Vollmer%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/123064357/?terms=Joan%20Vollmer%20exorcism&match=1https://www.9news.com.au/national/wife-s-exorcism-death-blamed-on-hospital/b4dc635e-5c6e-4feb-9203-f7f60d868637https://www.newspapers.com/image/120627676/?terms=Antwerp%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/120638985/?terms=Antwerp%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/120622909/?terms=Antwerp%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/120620440/?terms=Antwerp%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/120091899/?terms=Antwerp%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/123004623/?terms=Antwerp%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/123005085/?terms=Antwerp%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/122999279/?terms=Antwerp%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/123064472/?terms=Antwerp%20exorcism&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/123065632/?terms=Antwerp%20exorcism&match=1https://psychcentral.com/disorders/hypomanic-episode-symptoms#what-is-it https://www.newspapers.com/image/829130835/?terms=Joan%20Vollmer%20funeral&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/829461106/?terms=Joan%20Vollmer%20funeral&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/120475607/?terms=Joan%20Vollmer%20funeral&match=1 --Interesting opinion piece on the matterhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/123499421/?terms=joan%20vollmer&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/122996803/?terms=joan%20vollmer&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/122998443/terms=joan%20vollmer%20guilty&match=1 This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3647242/advertisement

This week, dear twisted listeners, we are tackling a somewhat supernatural topic - murders blamed on demonic possession! We've got murders going both ways this week - some people claim they were doing god's work by ridding the world of its demons, and others where the murderer say they themselves were possessed! We have stories of kid killing 'demon assassins', Uber drivers overtaken by the devil, PCP fueled face stabbings, and so much more! So tune in, hang on, and, as always, stay off our lists!Check out our website! www.twistedlisterpod.comBrought to you by Podmoth Media Network podmoth.networkJoin us on Patreon: www.patreon.com/twistedlistersFollow us on Instagram: @twistedlisterspcastTiktok: @twistedlistersWant to start a podcast? She also became fixated on her childhood talking about it in a childs voice ultimately divulging abuse that had occured in her childhood. One afternoon Joan presented Ralph her husband age 54 with a painting she had done for him. He found his car coated in house paint. Ralph was a new christian, recently discovering his faith and now going to chruch he was eager to learn and had an the utmost respect for anyone who claimed to have a knowledge of the bible. Joan didn’t share his excitement over going to church but went to appease her husband. She was Not a church fanatic. While Ralph spent most of his time reading religious text, Joan could be found watching television or tending to her garden. Joan was described as normally mild mannered, shy gentle and loving but she would go into fits of rage in the yard if she was having an off day, Ralph described the look in her eyes as red glowing coals. He would lock himself indoors away from her until she had calmed down. Ralph’s church friends instructed him to pray for his wife, when he did her condition seemed to improve he attributed to his prayer and joan stopped taking her medications shortly after. Joans supposed recovery only fueled and sparked Ralphs religious beleifs futher to the point where you were unable to speak to him with out him bringing up religion where as joan seemed to be the more normal to talk to of the two. During that time Ralph had become friends with two people through his church john and le anne richenback, Who beleived in powers bestowed to people from god like the ability to speak in tongues or heal the sick, general miracles. In early jan 1993 the couple traveled to a religious convention that had been reccomended to them by the richenbacks. The whole week long trip joan seemed moody but the trip passed with no indicents but upon returning her symptoms flared up again and for the next two weeks they seemed to get worse especially at night time. deeply disturbed by his wifes behaivour and deteriearing health ralph looked to god for guidence, and he believed god told him the richenbacks would be the ones to help. So he called john and he was there at the house that day by 11pm At this point in their life John and Lee ann had preformed 20 deliverances and when john arrived at the vollmer residence he quickly decided that this was a severe case demonic possession. Now that he saw the full extent of it deliverance was “no longer an option, it was necessary” in the interest in saving what would be left of his wife he agreed.

Happy 1 year anniversary! We've been talking about this paranormal stuff for a whole year and we love all of you for sticking with us throughout this time, there's more to come from us!Belinda starts the episode out by chatting about the exorcism of Australian, Joan Vollmer. The Victorian resident lived in a small town and was soon accused of being possessed by demons by her husband, and put through a gruesome four day exorcism that ultimately resulted in her death! Just what the small town people did to her to try to "get rid of the demons", you'll have to find out by listening!Braydon goes on to discuss ALIEN BLOBS! Particularly two unique stories that feature alien blobs. One in 1958 Sweden, where two young men were travelling by car across the country, only to have to stop due to a dense fog moving in their direction. They got out of the car and encountered numerous blob like creatures that tried to abduct them! The other story is from 1950 and features four veteran police officers who find something rather odd while out on patrol one evening. If you wanted to follow us on social media, we can be found on: Facebook, and on Instagram You, Me, and a Poltergeist, Braydon, BelindaCHECK OUT ALL THE OTHER PODCAST ON TNC: THATSNOTCANON.COM
