In one of his final official acts before he died, Pope Francis put Antoni Gaudí, Spain's most famous architect, onto the path to sainthood. Gaudí's masterpiece, the Sagrada Familia, is a towering basilica, strangely designed and bursting with colour. It stands in the heart of Barcelona and its walls recount the entire story of the Catholic religion. After 140 years, having survived wars, arson attacks and dictatorship, it is still under construction. As Gaudí worked on it throughout his life, he became obsessive and it intensified his devotion. By the end of his life he was living like a monk. The BBC's Max Horberry has been to Barcelona to see Gaudí's work and speak to the people who have been working to finish the Sagrada Familia and campaigning for Gaudí's sainthood. He finds out more about the path to sainthood and how architecture, nature and religion intertwine in Gaudí's life. 'El aprendiz de Gaudí' es la nueva novela de Jesús Bastante. Ambientada en Barcelona de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, es una novela de amor prohibido. "Mi lugar favorito de la Sagrada Familia es la torre de San Bernardo, que fue la única que Gaudí pudo ver finalizada", nos comenta en Madrid Directo de Onda Madrid. Bastante dice que le encanta escribir, "para mí es reconfortante". "Mi novela es la historia de amor entre clases sociales distintas", nos detalla.

S'ha estrenat recentment al Teatre Gaudí de Barcelona 'Els plans', de Hamlet Produccions, escripta per Yago Alonso i Eva Mor, i dirigida per Yago Alonso. Hem tingut una divertida conversa amb Yago Alonso, Núria Deulofeu (intèrpret) i Roger Cantos (intèrpret i productor), sobre aquesta comèdia que és molt adient per al final de l'estiu i l'inici del curs del curs escolar (no donarem més pistes ;). Aunque el proyecto fue iniciado por otro arquitecto, Francisco de Paula, Gaudí asumió el liderazgo en 1883 y cambió el diseño original, aportando un estilo único y característico. En Las Mañanas de RNE Jesús Bastante, redactor jefe de Religión Digital, nos presenta su nuevo libro 'El aprendiz de Gaudí': "El primer proyecto era una iglesia neogótica [...] Lo que presentó fue algo radicalmente distinto, es un templo muy alto y con dieciocho torres ascendiendo hacia el cielo. La última construida es la que aparece en la portada de la novela". Explica cómo el arquitecto de La Sagrada Familia le cautivó: "Llega a Barcelona a buscarse la vida, él provoca de alguna manera el cambio en la ciudad" y añade "él no fue siempre un hombre ultra religioso, intentó provocar a sí mismo un cambio". Como curiosidad de la novela, Jesús afirma que el personaje de Rosetta es real, era la sobrina de Gaudí: "Era una persona con una imaginación desbordante [...] en la novela le recuerda a Gaudí esa magia que a veces los arquitectos olvidan cuando trabajan sobre plano", concluye el autor. Pope Francis was known for his humility, compassion and emphasis on social justice. This week we'll be dedicating an episode of Filling the Sink to the memory of this popular spiritual leader and exploring his relationship with Catalonia. Catalan News travels to the Vatican to attend the Pope's funeral and meet some of the 250,000 mourners who have flocked to Rome to pay their last respects, including many Catalan youngsters who attended the Jubilee of Teenagers. We meet Míriam Díez Bosch, a journalist specializing in religion and founder director of the Blanquerna Observatory on Media, Religion and Culture in Barcelona, who analyzes the Pope's relationship with Catalonia. Members of the Catalan church share their stories and discuss the decline in assistance and in religious marriages in recent decades. And reporter Gerard Escaich Folch joins host Beth Cohen to discuss the current religious panorama in Catalonia, including rapid secularization and the diversification of religious beliefs due to immigration. This week, our Catalan phrase is “Per l'amor de Déu!” - “For the love of God!”, which despite its reference to the divine is used in everyday conversation to express strong emotions.

Real Life  Devon just got back from Barcelona, where his sister-in-law's wedding was equal parts joyful and medically confusing (house-wide illness, mystery IV drip, etc.). Between family chaos and questioning the overwhelming religious vibes, he managed to sneak in a tour of tapas bars—including Bobby's Free, a barbershop turned speakeasy where you open a safe to get a drink. Also on the agenda: the Sagrada Familia, which still looks like Gaudí teamed up with an alien architect. Take a virtual tour and judge for yourself. Steven went full Jedi at Disney's Star Wars Night on Batuu, adding more lightsabers to a collection that's now approaching General Grievous territory. Future or Now  Ben found a Reddit guide to rewiring your brain—more philosophy than prescription, but helpful as a reminder: break bad loops, reframe your thinking, stay mindful. Simple ideas, not always simple to do. Devon brought the science bombshell: astronomers may have detected a biosignature outside our solar system. It's not a “we found aliens” headline, but it's the strongest hint yet that something biological might be out there. Researchers are cautious, but intrigued. So are we. Steven recapped Andor season 2, episodes 1–3. The political tension is still top-tier, the pacing's tighter, and the existential dread remains on-brand. As a teenage art student in 1960s New York City, Srimati Syamarani Dasi became one of the first disciples of Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the world-renowned founder-acharya of ISKCON. In those historical times, the ancient tradition exploded across the West and became colloquially known in popular culture as the “Hare Krishna movement.” Under Srila Prabhupada's guidance, Syamarani Didi painted some of the most recognizable illustrations in his translations and commentaries, including the Bhagavad Gita As-It-Is. This volume alone, featuring Didi's work, has been translated into more than 60 languages since 1972, sold more than 40 million copies, and has become the most popular version of the key Indian spiritual text, the Bhagavad Gita. In November 1977, Srila Prabhupada departed from the vision of the world. In 1992, Syamarani met his spiritual successor and intimate friend, Srila Bhaktivedanta Narayana Gosvami Maharaja. Just before his divine departure, Srila Prabhupada had requested Srila Narayana Maharaja to continue his mission. Under the latter's tutelage, Syamarani painted one of the most iconic images in Bhakti yoga, Seva-Kunja. The painting was installed with an elaborate ceremony at the pilgrimage site of Śrī Rūpa-Sanātana Gauḍīya Maṭha in the holy city of Vrindavan, India. Syamarani Didi's artistic prowess is only matched by her profound devotion and humility. As one of the few female gurus in her lineage, she gives initiation into the chanting of the maha-mantra (“the Hare Krishna mantra”) and other spiritual and priestly rites. She also fully engages in educating students and seekers in the beautiful truths of Vedic culture. This system of ancient spiritual, philosophical, and cultural traditions is based on the sacred texts known as the Vedas, propounded in such volumes as the Bhagavad Gita and the Srimad Bhagavatam.
