It is October 3, 1999, when Lt. Cliff Mathews reports to a nearby residence to take a report about a missing man. A young woman answers the door and informs the officer that 71-year-old Jack Irwin has not checked in with anyone and it had been several weeks since she had heard from him. The woman explained that she had only known Jack for about 7 months. During that time, she would help Jack around the house like cooking and cleaning as well as run errands. She tells the officer that she last saw Jack when she dropped him off at the Metrolink station at 5 pm on Sept 13. She explained that Jack was going to take the Metrolink into LA where he was going to catch another train from Los Angeles to Seattle. It is a Saturday afternoon on January 5, 2002, when Michael Gerboc drove to the floral store he owned with his partner florist, Ed Kirby, to check up Ed and the store. When Michael arrived and called out for Ed, he didn’t get a response but soon he finds Ed. Ed Kirby, age 48, is on the ground surrounded by a pool of blood. The popular florist had been murdered. He had been shot execution-style in the back of the head so he never saw it coming. A 9-millimeter shell was located nearby. His wallet was missing and the cash register was empty. It is December 20, 1977, when two hunters, out for the afternoon looking to bring home some ducks for Christmas dinner, stumble upon something. Unfortunately for them, that something was not a holiday feast but the body of a woman who, from the looks of it, had been out there for a while. The men called the police immediately and due to the location, two responding counties arrive, Fayette County and Clayton County. As officers look closer they can easily see what was the cause of death: two gunshot wounds to her head. As officers are working to secure the scene and collect evidence, it doesn’t take long to notice something else. They see it is a sleeping bag, but when they pull it from the water, they know it is not empty. Once on the banks, another female body is discovered inside the sleeping bag. Fifty-six-year-old Thomas Jones was a reserved kind of fella. He lived modestly and wanted a simple kind of life so the community of Mulford Delaware provided exactly what he wanted and needed. Thomas lived by himself and was a farmer. He owned and operated a small farm but he was not quite your typical farmer. Thomas was a paraplegic but that didn’t stop him from doing what he loved to do including farming his land. It was August 13, 1997, when a hired healthcare nurse stopped by to check on Thomas. The nurse called out his name after not answering the door. As she looked around, she knew something was not quite right. Thomas kept a clean and tidy house and things always had their place. There were dishes on the table and a few papers strewn about. His wheelchair was not in the house, so she ventured outside thinking maybe he was just outside. As she was looking around, she saw something and it was not good. There was a splattering of blood in a line as if something was bleeding as it was walking away. The nurse rushed to call 9-1-1. It’s January 18, 1987, at the Alpine Manor Nursing home in Walker, Michigan when a nurse, who was making her rounds, went into the room of a 60-year-old Alzheimer’s patient named Marguerite Chambers. The older woman was unresponsive and not breathing. A team rushed in to revive Marguerite but it was too late. It seems that the woman died sometime during the night. Death is not uncommon in nursing homes but Marguerite was still pretty healthy and her death was not expected. Her family had been in to visit her just the day before and had brought their loved one a balloon bouquet. Her passing was a shock to them but being that she was in a later stage in life, they knew it would happen one day. As is standard practice the staff let the family know and that they needed to come and retrieve her belongings. It was only then that a family member noticed that one of the balloons that they have given their beloved mother and friend was missing. Did someone take one of Marguerite’s balloons and her life? The answer would come but not before others would die just as mysteriously. On July 21, 1972, a man named Gerald John Schaefer picked up two teenage girls who were hitch-hiking. Schaefer told 17-year-old Pamela Wells and 18-year-old Nancy Trotter that hitchhiking was illegal in Martin County. It wasn’t, but they were young, so they believed him. It is February 9, 1989, and Tiffany had finished all her classes and decided she would go out and take a walk before hunkering down for a night of studying. Tiffany told her roommate she was going to take her usual powerwalk and she would be back soon which meant she would be returning around 6 pm or so.Six o’clock comes and goes and Tiffany has not come home yet. By 8 pm, her roommate is starting to worry as this was not like Tiffany at all. At 9 pm, her roommate calls the police and then calls Tiffany’s parents to tell them she was not yet home. It is April 1, 1989 and 35 year old Donald Welling was enjoying what he often did on weekend mornings which was taking a jog on the pretty back roads of Tuscarawas County. The peaceful moments of enjoying his run were shattered as a long shot rang out. The rifle bullet struck the middle of his heart killing him instantly. It was just 19 months later when on November 10, 1990, when 21 year old Jamie Paxton decided to go out and do some bow hunting with his crossbow. He found a nice area off state route 9, parked his car and got out to take a walk and get a look around. He left his weapon in the car. As Jamie was strolling along, lost in thought, he didn’t realize a man had pulled up and parked near his car. Again, shots rang out. Jamie fell to the ground after being struck three times from a rifle. On August 6, 1966, Kenneth McDuff and Roy Dale Green spent the day working for Kenneth’s dad pouring concrete. When they finished for the day they decided to go out and drive around and ‘look for a girl.’ Sadly they would come upon three teens and commit an unthinkable act. At 10 pm that night, 17-year-old Robert Brand, 16-year-old Edna Louise Sullivan who was Robert’s GF, and Robert’s 15-year-old cousin Mark Dunman just hanging out in Everman, Texas when McDuff noticed Edna Sullivan. He pulls up alongside the teens, pulls a .38 Colt revolver and ordered them to get into the trunk of their car. A local constable had pulled over to take a break and do some paperwork and while he was parked, a woman comes running up to him. She was in a panic and barely able to get her words out. She kept saying they are dead, they are all dead. She begged the officer to come with her. They arrive to a house and find a scene right out of a movie. On July 29, 1993, law enforcement authorities were alerted to a crime scene where they found two bodies in a field near Tellico, in Ellis County, Texas. The first body discovered was that of a nude decapitated girl whose hands were also missing. It looked like she had been shot in the back as well. Her body was badly mutilated.While officers were looking around for the rest of her missing parts, they discovered another body of a boy. It looked like he had been shot but unlike the girl, his body was intact. The boy had a wallet in his pants and a library card let authorities know his name James Bryan King. The two teens were brutally murdered by a suspect who was supposed to be their friend. It is an ordinary Friday as the Dishon family prepares for the day. The kids go to school and the parents go to work but when mom Edna comes home at 1pm she is startled to see her teenage daughter’s car in the driveway. Edna looks throughout the house for her daughter Jessica and without locating her, Edna goes outside to see if her car was perhaps not working and Jessica simply got a ride to school that day. When Edna opens Jessica’s car door, a sick feeling hits her. She finds Jessica’s purse with her cell phone sticking out of it. On the floorboard on the driver’s side of the car, is one of Jessica’s shoes. When the parents contact the police to report Jessica missing,the sheriff suggests that perhaps she just took off for a bit and will be back soon.
