Darkness Radio presents Spooks and Spirits of Merry Ole England with Tour Guide/Paranormal Investigator, David J. Clark! A background from a keen knowledge of local history, David J. Clark was born and raised in Chelmsford and its claim to fame of being more famous and deadly than the infamous, Salem witch trials,  noted for its persecuting of Witches. Dave started volunteering at Ghost Hunt Events Paranormal Team in 2018 and has been involved in Hosting events with guests ever since, which then scratched, a further interest in the Paranormal. Chiles v. Salazar. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a challenge to a Colorado law banning “conversion therapy,” or psychiatric treatment intended to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity, for minors. A majority of justices appeared more sympathetic to the plaintiff, a licensed counselor practicing conversion talk therapy who says the law discriminates against her based on her views. Nature is not fixed, but ever changing. Some of the world's best known deserts were once fertile grasslands and forests, including the Sahara, the Mojave, the Kalahari, and Gobi deserts. Is it accurate to think of deserts as permanent? Ecosystem succession shows us that Nature can evolve from rock to forest as well as reverse itself back to dust or a barren state. According to National Geographic, drylands account for more than 40 percent of the world's terrestrial surface area. Human-caused desertification and soil erosion is changing the landscape of Earth, with Africa and Asia being particularly vulnerable; many in these regions rely on subsistence farming. Humans are accelerating the degradation of land through deforestation, urbanization, mining, monocrop industrial farming, and conventional ranching, however, turning land into desert is not a fixed or foregone conclusion. Our guest in this show recorded in 2023, Alejandro Carrillo, Managing Partner, Grasslands Regeneration Project for Las Damas Ranch, has been working to green the Chihuahuan desert in northern Mexico. Droughts, floods and erosion need not be permanent realities if we change the behaviors that are causing them. We have the power to align with and assist Nature in a process of evolution that benefits and sustains life. Las Damas, Alejandro Carrillo's 30,000-acre ranch, is one of the world's best known examples of what is possible on dry land, these arid and brittle environments that receive low rainfall. Due to rotational grazing and other strategies, like supporting the work of dung beetles and termites, native grasslands have proliferated. Thus, water infiltrates into more productive soil, wildlife and plant diversity thrive, encouraging a microclimate where rainfall increases. Back in January, there was a tragic incident where an American Airlines flight collided with a military helicopter near Reagan National Airport in Washington, DC. A few days after the crash, we published a special report on the incident. About a week later, we published a deep dive Friday edition about the crash, trying to make sense of how something like that could happen. And one of the people who I spoke to was David Soucie, who is CNN's air safety analyst. He's a former FAA safety inspector and the author of a book called Safer Skies, which is about the past and the future of airline safety. So overall, he is an expert on these questions. He provided a lot of invaluable insight into the crash when we spoke back in January. But I hadn't heard from him since then. We hadn't had a chance to reconnect. That is until this week when he reached out to me over email to let me know that he had some information about the impact of the government shutdown on the air safety space and the way that it was impacting airlines. So I jumped at the opportunity to speak with him. We had a really interesting conversation about some of the reports that have come out this week of air traffic controllers allegedly taking sick days to get out of work when they're not being paid. And also, more broadly, about whether air safety is actually being impacted by this government shutdown and how it could be impacted if the shutdown continues for days or weeks more. I'm sure this is a topic that's top of mind for anybody who is planning to fly in the near future. But also if you're just somebody who flies in general, David and I talked about some of the changes that have been made to the air safety infrastructure since the DC crash nine months ago, how he feels the overall infrastructure is in the United States right now, and whether the government shutdown could exacerbate any existing issues. So if you've read any of these reports from airports across the country experiencing flight delays and cancellations because of significant air traffic controller shortages, and you've wondered, it safe to fly right now? David offers a great perspective on where we're at and the level of concern that you should have. The U.S. government spends a ton of money, on everything from Medicare to roads to defense. In fact, it spends way more than it takes in. So…it borrows money, in the bond market. By selling U.S. Treasurys, basically IOUs with periodic interest payments. And for decades, people have loved to invest in Treasurys, for their safety and security. But lately, Treasurys have started to look riskier. In part because, in recent years, there's a new buyer at the table: hedge funds, those loosely-regulated financial companies that invest on behalf of institutions and wealthy clients. They have started doing a special trade called the “Treasury basis trade.” And, depending on who you talk to, this trade could destabilize our entire financial system. The Mizpah Hotel has been voted the number one haunted hotel by a couple of publications. Not surprising for a hotel that has stood for 120 years. And it's been able to stand this long because this is one strong hotel. This building was formed from concrete, stone and brick in the Nevada town of Tonopah near the height of its mining boom. The lighted sign that sits on the roof can be seen from miles away. We wonder if that sign not only attracts travelers to come and stay the night, but does it get the attention of spirits as well? On Wednesday, Israel and Hamas agreed to the first stage of President Donald Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza. Precise details of the agreement are still being worked out, though the initial provisions took shape over night. On Friday, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said that the United States had struck a small boat in international waters off the coast of Venezuela, killing four people. Hegseth alleged that the boat was operated by the drug cartel Tren de Aragua and was trafficking narcotics to the United States. The strike is the fourth confirmed time the Trump administration has sunk a small craft it alleges was controlled by “narco-terrorists,” including a strike on September 2 that killed 11 and two others on September 15 and September 19. On Friday, National Review published text messages from former Virginia House of Delegates member Jay Jones (D) sent to a Republican colleague — House Delegate Carrie Coyner — in 2022. In the messages, Jones expresses disdain for Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R), then says that he would shoot Gilbert in a hypothetical scenario where he could kill either him or dictators Pol Pot and Adolf Hitler. Jones went on to suggest that he wanted Gilbert's children to die from gun violence because it might prompt the speaker to change his stance on gun control.
