To better understand the impact of the US/Israel War on Iran this week, Sam talks with Sussan Tahmasebi, Executive Director and the Co-founder of Femena, the support organization for women human rights defenders in MENA/Asia. Then, she talks with journalist Jonathan Larsen about the influence of Christian fascist ideology on the military and the wider support for this potentially apocalyptic war. SEASON 4 EPISODE 66: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: It's literally a disaster of BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS. Some of Trump’s Troops are being told that it isn't 'war with Iran' - it's a war to start a Biblical Armageddon: “Trump has been anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to earth” says one whistle-blower NCO about his commanding officer. You heard it: a non-zero number of Trump Commanders aren't just fighting an illegal, ill-prepared, ill-fated war against an Iran that posed no realistic threat. To them it's a literal Holy War, start the apocalypse, end times, and then they all get raptured. More than 200 reports of such religious insanity, to a group called MRFF (Military Religious Freedom Foundation) and reported by one of my former MSNBC Coordinating Producers, Jonathan Larsen. MRRF is pushing back against us doing the whole Book of Revelations Crusades thing - and the newest development: the religious nuts in the military are holding emergency bible classes for those who may be deployed. Maybe not Apocalypse Now but Apocalypse SOON. The religious nut jobs are in charge, Hegseth may be in on the delusion, and so: no sign of bad luck in Rapture. B-Block (35:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The right wing allegation that MAGA Twitter twerp "Gunther Eagleman" only retweets if you pay him; Markwayne Mullin mistakes the smell of plumbing for the smell of war and keeps referring to "President Hegseth", and Weijia Jiang, CBS News reporter and president of the White House Correspondents Association. She and they not only actually insulted every journalist ever by inviting Trump to the Correspondents' Dinner - but he accepted and thinks he's getting an award. Trump is a man who has literally tried to get reporters killed for a decade, and they're going to sit in the same room with him. I guess because Goebbels is dead and is unavailable. I don't usually say 'I really went off on these idiots' but - I really went off on these WHCA idiots. C-Block (50:00) THURBER'S VERSION OF THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: His magazine-length version of his only non-fiction book, "The Years With Ross" about the founding of "The New Yorker" magazine (and its legendary, almost mythical founder, Harold Ross). It is as hysterical - and sometimes nearly as impossible to believe - as the best of his fiction.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Even when it wasn't part of my job, I've always broken news, breaking stories about the powerful and how the system is rigged against the powerless. Without trafficking in speculation or outrage-bait. Far too much of our journalism — from fringe to mainstream — is focused on feeding us info-bits that feel like they mean something (about what's going to happen, or who someone really is) but don't actually have any bearing on the material lives of everyday people. Until I was laid off in January 2024, I oversaw the original reporting of The Young Turks. Since then, I've been counting on reader support to continue breaking news here on Substack. (I also do an NSFW weekday-morning newsletter full of the kind of unabashed opinion-having that I make sure not to indulge in the reporting here on this Substack, because impartial journalism doesn't mean not having opinions it means being professional enough to ensure my reporting is intellectual honest.) Here's what one well-known political scientist has to say about my work: "Jonathan Larsen is a first rate investigative reporter … He just started a Substack. Subscribe! I did." — Norm Ornstein And here's Mr. Rather: "Jonathan is a first-rate, world-class professional… As a reporter, he's a deep-digger with an unrelenting dedication to fairness and accuracy." I'm obviously extremely lucky to have worked with the people I have. My ethos for journalism is that "evil" is a poor explanation for human behavior. That applies to everyone from muggers and presidents. I tend to reject simple and simplistic explanations for…why things are happening. People aren't perfectly logical, but anyone telling you that people are doing bad things because they're crazy or evil is selling you something you shouldn't be buying. A lot of big accounts out there rile everyone up and rack up likes by calling out people for being evil. My moral high ground isn't enough for me to make that my calling. So I focus on revealing destructive forces at work and crappy systems. And, yes, exposing the people responsible. It's my belief that elevation and illumination are how we get to a better place. I appreciate your support for these aspirations. And if that's too earnest and saccharine for you, you should probably subscribe to The Fucking News! Send a textEpisode 363: Jamie Irvine and Jonathan Larsen explore why data standards—especially cross‑references, fitment data, and images—remain a major challenge in the heavy‑duty parts industry, despite decades of progress in automotive. They discuss how standards like PIES and ACES work, why adoption has lagged in commercial vehicles, and how better data practices can reduce friction, improve accuracy, and strengthen the entire supply chain. They also examine cultural, competitive, and operational barriers that slow adoption, and emphasize that the future belongs to companies that build daily habits around maintaining high‑quality product data. As Jonathan puts it, “Create a habit of working on your data on a day‑in and day‑out basis.”Links· AutoCare.orgSponsors of this EpisodeThe Hub Corp: Introducing the new standard in wheel-end protection: The Hub Corp's revolutionary XTRACTOR™. We are no longer waiting for the other shoe to drop: We are living in the aftermath. Rushkoff sits down with Jonathan Larsen, editor of The Fucking News, to ask the question: Now that we are soaking in authoritarianism, how do we get out? While Rushkoff worries that the screen has been placed over the boiling pot, Larsen offers a crucial reframing: what we mistake for a grand fascist strategy is often just a lack of impulse control. He argues that diagnosing "fascism" can become a trap that leads to fatalism and paralysis. Instead, the most effective resistance is specific, tactical, and local. From the Newtonian backlash inherent in voter suppression to the dangers of Larry Ellison's Stargate DNA registry, Rushkoff and Larsen explore how to resist the urge to dehumanize our enemies, why we must stop looking for political saviors, and how to find the levers of power that still work.Learn more about Everyone's Earth: https://everyonesearth.com/Change Diapers: https://changediapers.com/Cobi Dryer Sheets: https://cobidryersheets.com/Use the code “rush10” to receive 10% off of Cobi Dryer sheets: https://cobidryersheets.com/Support Team Human on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/teamhumanFollow Team Human with Douglas Rushkoff:Instagram: https:/www.instagram.com/douglasrushkoffYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJdUEh2Wh4fnswTLmqoEnhgTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@douglasrushkoffBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/rushkoff.com Hosted on Acast. A new week begins with news of a "$400 Million flying palace" that allegedly will be gifted by the Qatari Royal Family to Donald F'ing Trump!?! WTF?Oh there's more news too. Like the idea of suspending habeas corpus? Huh?I accidentally stumbled onto Newsmax over the weekend and was hit with El Dumpo on the tube trying to sell me a Trump Watch? Seriously? The President of the United States doing a TV commercial to sell a watch with his name scribbled on it. How is that legal? These stories and more as we cover the fucking news with Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com.
The weekend was chock full of news, beginning with a SCOTUS surprise at 1am on Saturday morning. For the first time in a long time, they ruled the correct way. Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com joins me for our regular Monday debriefing session on what the hell is going on...
Just when you think we've hit rock bottom, the magats in Dump-land prove that there is no bottom. Since we last spoke, the tariffs are on again, off again, temporary or permanent or paused for 90 days (and the stock market is up, down, up, down, ad nauseum; the administration is openly defying a Supreme Court ruling that tells them to facilitate the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia; a domestic terrorist firebombed the home of Pennsylvania's Governor Josh Shapiro on the first night of Passover... I could keep going, but we'll get to most of it today when we're joined by Jonathan Larsen of The Fucking News (thefuckingnews.substack.com)
Like death and taxes, Mondays always arrive. For the past couple of months, the start of each new week has brought with it a plethora of really bad news. Today is no exception... except there's some very encouraging news along with the usual Trump/shit sandwich.Where? Well, just look back to Saturday and the reported 5 million people plus who took to the streets across the country to protest the idiocy destroying our nation from inside. As we do on most Mondays, we'll check in with Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com for a spirited discussion about what's happening.

Welcome to another Monday when you wake up hoping it's all just been a horrible nightmare, but the you realize this is really happening.I believe that the bad news goes down easier with some snark and expletives, so we'll check in for our usual Monday get-together with Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com. There's plenty on the crap menu to choose from today: a president openly confirming he wants to defy the Constitution and remain in power indefinitely, SignalGate or WhiskeyLeaks, or whatever you want to call the biggest threat to our national security in recent history and the mountain of denial and hypocrisy from the right concerning it, tomorrow's special elections and how the guy who purchased the presidency for Trump is handing out millions to try to purchase the WI Supreme Court. And yes, there's lots more.We could - and will - also look to the positive and talk about those special elections happening tomorrow (there's cause for cautious optimism), a blow against fascism in France, more protests coming this weekend. I know, the bad stuff outnumbers the good, but I'll continue to try to stay on the lookout for solutions rather than reinforce the crap that they're pushing on us.
It was a weekend with some hope as I tried to focus only on the good stuff, and there was cause for encouragement. Bernie Sanders and AOC held five rallies in Nevada, Arizona and Colorado, and they were awesome in the truest sense of the word. Record crowds everywhere, with reports that most were not necessarily previous Sanders voters or supporters. People are rising up and there are more actions planned. Keep 'em coming! It's been a couple of weeks since Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com was here, but he's back today. Good thing because there's lots of breaking news that shows just how broken this country is... Did you hear the one about the imbecilic Secretary of Defense mistakenly adding a reporter from The Atlantic to a Signal chat revealing highly classified information about an impending attack on the Houthis in Yemen? Just lovely.... Feel safe yet?
We usually spend Mondays talking about the latest news with Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com, but he's out today doing something important with his son. And frankly, I just don't have it in me today.I was trying to find something that would bring some hope to my feelings of hopelessness right now, when a video titled 'Stress Kills' appeared in my email from Bernie Sanders. He seems to be the only person in DC who's actually out there making noise and trying to help. He's been traveling the country on his Fighting Oligarchy tour. So today, we'll spend most of the show listening to Bernie as we'll share his rally held yesterday in Altoona, WI.. We could all use some of Bernie's energy right about now...
We reached another Friday and it was another week filled with more crap than we could cover in an hour-long discussion, which is what Marcy Wheeler and I try to do each Friday. This morning, Marcy put up a long, information-filled post at emptywheel.net titled "Attention Deficit and Defiance Division of Labor: There's Stuff Happening Where You're Not Looking" which provided a bit of a blueprint for today's conversation -- and lots of links you can click on while you follow along.Coming up next week -- in addition to our regulars Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com on Monday, Howie Klein of DownWithTyranny.com on Thursday and Marcy Wheeler of emptywheel.net on Friday --we have some great guests coming up. On Tuesday, we'll speak with one of my fellow Air America radio alums, Mike Papantonio! He hosted a show called Ring of Fire with Sam Seder and often with Bobby Kennedy Jr (before he lost his mind. He has a new novel just released this week, The Middleman: A Legal Thriller about a lawyer taking on Big Pharma. His publicist pitched him as a guest. I told him that I don't usually have novelists on, but the subject is interesting, and I'd love to ask him about RFK Jr. Pap's response was that he'll talk about anything I want to ask him about. So I will!I've also heard from a lot of listeners concerned about what Elon Trump will do to Social Security; there are tons of rumors flying about it. So I figured it was time to get Alex Larsen back... He'll be here Wednesday.
Mondays are inevitable. Sadly, in recent weeks, the news on Mondays has been tragic and today is no exception. We're still reeling from the spectacle in the Oval Office on Friday and coming to terms with the fact that the man occupying the White House has aligned us with Russia over our allies in Europe. And as further proof that Dump is trying to crash the economy, the stock market took a huge dump today after the orange thing announced that his 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada would go into effect tomorrow.Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com will be along to talk about the shit show.I'll start the show with what might be my favorite song parody from the Marsh Family. They turned "Puppets on a Kremlin String" around in about 24 hours. It's the perfect commentary on what we witnessed on Friday that we wish would have never happened...
Our list of things inevitable is growing. It's no longer just death and taxes. To that we know that Monday will always arrive and with it more fucking news. So we get it out of the way... Each Monday I'm joined by Jonathan Larsen who actually compiles the news every fucking day at thefuckingnews.substack.com - and then does more original reporting at jonathanlarsen.substack.com too. And he hangs out with us on Mondays to talk about as much of it as we can.Today, some good news is tempered by a depressing thought. It's the new existential question of our surreal life... who can enforce the laws in a system of checks and balances when the "executive" won't recognize the other two branches authority and power?
The coup is in full swing and we're not going to take it. I just had to say that right off the bat. D'ump went golfing this weekend, but on days 12 & 13 of this unconstitutional regime, his minions were hard at work... especially Elon Musk, WHO NOBODY CAST A SINGLE VOTE FOR. He has seized parts of the US Treasury that pays our bills and installed some kids barely out of high school who have access to all Americans' most sensitive data. They told us what they were going to do in Project 2024, that the Convicted Felon insisted he knew nothing about, yet most of the 300 ridiculous Executive Orders he's already signed are directly lifted from that manifesto. And enough Americans fell for it or just stayed home on election day to give him the go-ahead to complete the coup he started during the first time they put him in power. Today is Monday, so I'll be joined by Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com who's doing a great job covering Trump's ongoing attempt to destroy the United States of America and our constitution. It's all hands on deck time. Let's do something about it.
How is this only Week 2? We've got our work cut out for us... Save the date! Heather Cox Richardson joins us tomorrow, so don't be late! Today, as we do on Mondays, we'll recap some of the important news of the day. Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com is here to help us try to make sense of the insanity of it all.
Yes, I know what's happening today. Frankly, the less said about the inauguration, the better. So today, we'll hear President Biden's farewell address which I never got to last week. Maybe. We may hear some words of wisdom and warnings from Timothy Snyder ("On Tyranny"). Then we'll check in with Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com. His Saturday post detailed the accomplishments of the Biden/Harris administration -- a good reference to hold on to as we move forward and try to navigate the next four years. I promised you I'd post this here. Timothy Snyder gave us a gift that I'll now share with you. You may want to refer back to this a lot over the next four years: Twenty Lessons On Tyranny Timothy Snyder Do not obey in advance. Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do. Defend institutions. It is institutions that help us to preserve decency. They need our help as well. Do not speak of "our institutions" unless you make them yours by acting on their behalf. Institutions do not protect themselves. They fall one after the other unless each is defended from the beginning. So choose an institution you care about -- a court, a newspaper, a law, a labor union -- and take its side. Beware the one-party state. The parties that remade states and suppressed rivals were not omnipotent from the start. They exploited a historic moment to make political life impossible for their opponents. So support the multiple-party system and defend the rules of democratic elections. Vote in local and state elections while you can. Consider running for office. Take responsibility for the face of the world. The symbols of today enable the reality of tomorrow. Notice the swastikas and the other signs of hate. Do not look away, and do not get used to them. Remove them yourself and set an example for others to do so. Remember professional ethics. When political leaders set a negative example, professional commitments to just practice become more important. It is hard to subvert a rule-of-law state without lawyers, or to hold show trials without judges. Authoritarians need obedient civil servants, and concentration camp directors seek businessmen interested in cheap labor. Be wary of paramilitaries. When the men with guns who have always claimed to be against the system start wearing uniforms and marching with torches and pictures of a leader, the end is nigh. When the pro-leader paramilitary and the official police and military intermingle, the end has come. Be reflective if you must be armed. If you carry a weapon in public service, may God bless you and keep you. But know that evils of the past involved policemen and soldiers finding themselves, one day, doing irregular things. Be ready to say no. Stand out. Someone has to. It is easy to follow along. It can feel strange to do or say something different. But without that unease, there is no freedom. Remember Rosa Parks. The moment you set an example, the spell of the status quo is broken, and others will follow. Be kind to our language. Avoid pronouncing the phrases everyone else does. Think up your own way of speaking, even if only to convey that thing you think everyone is saying. Make an effort to separate yourself from the internet. Read books. Believe in truth. To abandon facts is to abandon freedom. If nothing is true, then no one can criticize power, because there is no basis upon which to do so. If nothing is true, then all is spectacle. The biggest wallet pays for the most blinding lights. Investigate. Figure things out for yourself. Spend more time with long articles. Subsidize investigative journalism by subscribing to print media. Realize that some of what is on the internet is there to harm you. Learn about sites that investigate propaganda campaigns (some of which come from abroad). Take responsibility for what you communicate with others. Make eye contact and small talk. This is not just polite. It is part of being a citizen and a responsible member of society. It is also a way to stay in touch with your surroundings, break down social barriers, and understand whom you should and should not trust. If we enter a culture of denunciation, you will want to know the psychological landscape of your daily life. Practice corporeal politics. Power wants your body softening in your chair and your emotions dissipating on the screen. Get outside. Put your body in unfamiliar places with unfamiliar people. Make new friends and march with them. Establish a private life. Nastier rulers will use what they know about you to push you around. Scrub your computer of malware on a regular basis. Remember that email is skywriting. Consider using alternative forms of the internet, or simply using it less. Have personal exchanges in person. For the same reason, resolve any legal trouble. Tyrants seek the hook on which to hang you. Try not to have hooks. Contribute to good causes. Be active in organizations, political or not, that express your own view of life. Pick a charity or two and set up autopay. Then you will have made a free choice that supports civil society and helps others to do good. Learn from peers in other countries. Keep up your friendships abroad, or make new friends in other countries. The present difficulties in the United States are an element of a larger trend. And no country is going to find a solution by itself. Make sure you and your family have passports. Listen for dangerous words. Be alert to use of the words "extremism" and "terrorism." Be alive to the fatal notions of "emergency" and "exception." Be angry about the treacherous use of patriotic vocabulary. Be calm when the unthinkable arrives. Modern tyranny is terror management. When the terrorist attack comes, remember that authoritarians exploit such events in order to consolidate power. The sudden disaster that requires the end of checks and balances, the dissolution of opposition parties, the suspension of freedom of expression, the right to a fair trial, and so on, is the oldest trick in the Hitlerian book. Do not fall for it. Be a patriot. Set a good example of what America means for the generations to come. They will need it. Be as courageous as you can. If none of us is prepared to die for freedom, then all of us will die under tyranny. These lessons are the openings of the twenty chapters of my little 2017 book On Tyranny, which has just been lightly edited since in successive printings to account for the Big Lie, the coup attempt, the war in Ukraine, and the risks we face in 2024. The lessons remain the same. On Tyranny has also been published in a beautiful graphic edition, illustrated by Nora Krug. For my positive ideas about liberty, see my new book, On Freedom.
Just like death and taxes, Mondays come along every week, whether we want them or not. So, welcome to another Monday. Thankfully, Mondays are made less worse because Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com and jonathanlarsen.substack.com is here to help us digest some of the f'ing news that we also cannot escape. Oh, by the way, speaking of substack, we now send The Nicole Sandler Show out on substack every afternoon following the live show. So go and subscribe at nicolesandler.substack.com. (It's still free, though we do depend on your donations and generosity to keep this thing going!)
Welcome to our first show of 2025. I'm rested and a bit refreshed after taking off a couple of weeks for the holidays. I'd say I'm happy to be back, but the fact is that today is January 6, four years since the guy whose election was just certified fomented an insurrection at the Capitol because he lost that election! To add insult to injury, the orange menace had the gall to rant today that President Biden was making the transition "as difficult as possible." We all know that's bullshit. Remember "every accusation is a confession". The next four years are going to be Opposite World on steroids. We'll begin the show today catching up on some of what happened over the holidays and setting some intentions for how we deal with our new reality. Then, as we do on most Mondays, we'll welcome Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com back to the show to get his take on what's happening in this ever-increasingly messed up world... Here we go...
Like death and taxes, Mondays are inevitable. As so many of us have tuned out of the nonstop news coverage, we're happy to fill you on what's happening in the world as we start the new week with Jonathan Larsen of TheFuckingNews.substack.com. Why? The news goes down easier with a bit of snark. Today, a "strong person of interest" in the UHC CEO killing is in custody in PA thanks to a McDonalds employee. TFN has uncovered some interesting details about 26-year old Luigi Mangione, including his high school valedictory speech. Welcome to a new week...
This episode we watch the 2021 Netflix biographical musical ‘Tick Tick Boom' starting Andrew Garfield. Based on the stage musical of the same name, the semi autobiographical story tells of playwright, lyricist and songwriter Jonathan Larsen's life and lead up to creating the legendary ‘Rent'. Tune in and enjoy the feast of Broadway appearances along the way!
Another week, a new month. I'm still not quite right, but I'm back today. It's Monday, so Jonathan Larsen also returns from thefuckingnews.substack.com. Thankfully he can fill us in on what's been going on since I, along with millions of Americans, have tried to tune out as much of the news as possible. He joins in at the 30 minute mark... I know you come here for information, but I hope you also watch/listen/participate in the show for truth, as painful as it sometimes is. If you've wondered about my uncharacteristic absences of late, I've been sick. I've been going through a mental health crisis. To be completely honest, I'm still in the midst of it, but I must make every effort to keep putting one foot in front of the other, so I'm back today to do just that. I'll explain as much as I can on the show, and want to thank you for being patient and for your support as I try to get back on track...
You know what TFN stands for at this point, right? It's The Fucking News. It just doesn't stop. And it's the cause of the giant pit in my stomach right now that has had me feeling nauseated and unable to function most of the time these days. If you've been listening to this show for a while, you may remember the effect the 2016 election had on my mind, soul and being. When TFG was declared winner, that sickness permeated every inch of my body and psyche and wreaked havoc on me for four long years. I'm not a medical professional, but my best description of what happened to me was a total breakdown. Somehow I managed to mostly go through the motions and keep this show going, but it was not easy. And it was not fun. I've struggled with depression since adolescence, but the stress and anxiety that's ravaged my mind and body thanks to that orange narcissistic fascist is really taking a toll on me. I'll do my best to muddle through... but please know that if I'm off the air at all this week, that's why. I know it's not rational. NOTHING about him is rational. This is opposite world on steroids. I believe we'll be ok. I believe he will lose and that GOOD will triumph over evil. Unfortunately, none of those rational beliefs are doing a good job of alleviating what's happening in my head. But I'll keep trying to battle those demons -- in real life, in my mind and all over the fucking internet and tv. I'll share a few things that should help (and do, albeit temporarily). And we'll check in with Jonathan Larsen of TheFuckingNews.substack.com as we do each Monday.... And if you're feeling as I am, please know you're not alone. But we will survive. And we will win.
Another Monday arrived way too soon, but we'll deal with it.It was a strange weekend -- complete with TFG's obsessing over Arnold Palmer's dick size and Harvey Weinstein getting "schlonged" (I don't believe that's even a word, though "schlong" is Yiddish slang for dick). What more or less would you expect from a demented narcissist who wants to be a dick-tator? As it is Monday, we will visit with Jonathan Larsen from The Fucking News at thefuckingnews.substack.com and the less expletively-challenged jonathanlarsen.substack.com.... And you thought Don-Old was vulgar! He is, but also know that I'm not running for president. He is.
We are moved. Well, we're out of the old house and all our stuff is at the new place. Now we get to put it all together. My first task was rebuilding my studio. I somehow got it working well enough last Wednesday to interview Christopher Steele, and it crapped out on my on Friday while taping our Emptywheel Friday show with Marcy Wheeler. So, I rebuilt the whole thing over the weekend and as I'm prepping for today's show, it seems to be working correctly. Please let me know if gremlins invade so I can try to exterminate them, once and for all! Today is Indigenous Peoples Day. In some places, it's still referred to as Columbus Day, but we prefer to recognize the former... It's also Monday when we usually speak with Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com, but he's a bit under the weather today. So, we'll catch up...
My long housing hell nightmare is almost over! I'm back live today and boy do I have a story to share with you! I'll fill you in on why I was out all last week and why I'm doing so much better today. Then, as it's Monday, we'll visit with Jonathan Larsen, proprietor of TheFuckingNews.substack.com (along with JonathanLarson.substack.com) who helps us kick off each week on Mondays with some original reporting and some of the other shit that we can't believe is actually happening.
Every Monday we check in with Jonathan Larsen who tells us what's happening in our world at thefuckingnews.substack.com. Here at the Nicole Sandler Show, we use language like that, but apparently some are squeamish about expletives, so Jonathan is launching a second substack newsletter. He'll fill us in on that today, along with more important news like a second assassination attempt on TFG and the Trump campaign's latest attempt to pit Americans against Americans. Plus my thoughts on how we're coping with the sickening racism, xenophobia and contempt for our fellow human beings by Trump and his minions...
Mondays are difficult by definition, soo we get our news with a bit of snark with Jonathan Larsen who delivers the news to us every morning from thefuckingnews.substack.com and discusses it with us Monday afternoons on the show. Today... about those Kamala Harris endorsements from Liz & Dick Cheney! And what about the rest of the Republicans???
I'm finally feeling almost normal after an awful infection that led me to two separate Emergency Room visits in one week. So today, it's back to the grind.Somehow, the fact that today is Monday is not quite as awful as the last few hundred (or so it seems) Mondays have been... So, we'll chat about all that's happening in the news today, and then bring on Jonathan Larsen who reports on all of that at thefuckingnews.substack.com every day....
What a weekend this was! On Friday, I was at the Glendale AZ Kamala Harris/Tim Walz record-breaking rally. On Saturday night, I saw the Pretenders in concert (Chrissie Hynde is still amazing!), and I spent Sunday sick in bed... But today is Monday and there's lots of fucking news to get to, so the show must go on.As we do most Mondays, we're joined by Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com to talk about what's happening in our fucking world...
Yes, a lot of fucking news for a fucking Monday, and that's not even all of it. As we do on Mondays, I'll chat with Jonathan Larsen of thefuckingnews.substack.com about much of what I don't get to in the first half hour of the show on my own!
Another Monday has arrived and the outlook is much rosier than in recent weeks. Needless to say, there's lots to discuss. And it's Monday, so Jonathan Larsen of The Fucking News (thefuckingnews.substack.com) joins in for the second half hour of the show. We'll venture into the world of the weird, which we acknowledge that there are different strains of weird... Some weird is good, while some is just, well, weird.... creepily weird. (Did someone say Don-Old Trump and JD Vance - or what ever variation on that name he might be using today?)
The shitshow that is the 2024 presidential election season is rolling right off a cliff. I had planned on playing President Biden's speech delivered Friday at a high-energy back on track rally in Detroit. And then Saturday happened. I'm trying very hard to stay positive, to veer away from conspiracy theories and to present only facts. But the right wing propaganda machine is in full swing, and as greasy and oily as possible. Jonathan Larsen is here today from thefuckingnews.substack.com to help me wade through the muck...
The six Extreme Court injustices completed their task from the Federalist Society to kill our democracy. And no, that's not hyperbole. The month of July begins with such a travesty to close out the court's session.I spent most of the first half-hour reading from Justice Sonia Sotomayor's and Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson's dissents. PLEASE read the whole thing for yourself. Or just read the two dissenting opinions which run from page 68 to 118. Then we check in with Jonathan Larsen of The Fucking News to further examine this unprecedented assault on democracy and the crowning of King D'ump. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nicolesandler/message
After a rebound infection with COVID over the weekend (I'm not kidding), I'm almost feeling human today. The icing on the cake was a negative test this morning! Yippee!! So I'm back, trying to catch up on all that happened while I was delirious. One thing that did happen was TFG rambling like the demented old fool he is in Philadelphia Saturday night. I even have some audio... And as it is Monday, Jonathan Larsen is here from The Fucking News to fill us in on the fucking news I missed while I was fucking sick... --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nicolesandler/message
Like death and taxes, there's no stopping Mondays. They come every week whether we want them or not. But there's a silver lining... we get The Fucking News every Monday from Jonathan Larsen who writes the fucking news every fucking day... Then again, there are some weeks when there's good fucking news, like Trump being convicted and like Mexico electing its first woman President -- a Jewish woman at that! But don't fear newsfuckers, there's some fucked-up news to talk about too... --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nicolesandler/message
Mondays are always difficult, especially after an epic weekend.. But here we are. There's lots of news to discuss-- the latest on TFG's trial, possibly entering the homestretch, Alito must recuse (or be impeached.... and Clarence Thomas too!), the ICC is calling for the arrest of Hamas' leaders plus Netanyahu and Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. And lots more. And since it's Monday, Jonathan Larsen joins in from The Fucking News with even more! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nicolesandler/message
It's hard to believe we're almost half way through May already. I guess time flies whether we're having fun or not! I'm in website hell and in desperate need of a vacation... but I'm not there yet. So instead, it'll be a show at showtime as usual (5ET/2PT). I'll try to bring you up to speed on the Trump trial. Michael Cohen is on the stand today.. and Sen Bob Menendez' trial is on track to begin today too. It is Monday, so we'll check in with Jonathan Larsen of The Fucking News (thefuckingnews.substack.com) because we're not yet fucked up enough, apparently. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nicolesandler/message
Mondays are always difficult by definition, so we try to make them a bit more palatable by kicking off each fucking week with The Fucking News, as written and delivered by Jonathan Larsen who does his reporting for us daily at thefuckingnews.substack.com. Lots to discuss today from the possible ceasefire between Israel & Hamas, TFG on trial, TFG wannabe Veep-stakes, same sex marriage in the church and lots more... --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/nicolesandler/message
