Megyn Kelly is joined by Emily Jashinsky, host of "Undercurrents" on UnHerd, and Eliana Johnson, editor of the Washington Free Beacon, to discuss the absurdity at the White House Correspondents Dinner this year, one reporter getting an award for his coverage of Biden's cognitive decline, how the entire media ignored the issue and gaslit the public for years, the absurdly smug White House correspondents celebrating themselves, the head of the WHCA's ridiculous speech, the hatred for Trump yet claims of objectivity, the bizarre and cringy Bill Belichick CBS News interview, his 24-year-old girlfriend calling the shots behind-the-scenes, the corporate media continuing to gaslight the public about Trump and illegal immigration cases, the truth about the Wisconsin judge who was arrested for concealing an illegal immigrant, how the coverage is affecting Trump's polling, why fired Pentagon staff are speaking out including in Megyn's interview with alleged "leaker" Colin Carroll, what we're learning about the internal politics and Secretary Pete Hegseth, and more. Plus Megyn previews her new special “Blonde Origin” - a parody of Blue Origin's ridiculous "mission" to space, the disaster the trip has been for Gayle King and Katy Perry, and more.Jashinsky- https://www.youtube.com/@undercurrentsunherdJohnson- https://freebeacon.com/ Featured music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K3GQdD30F0 https://www.SelectQuote.com/MEGYNTax Network USA: Call 1-800-958-1000 or visit https://TNUSA.com/MEGYN to speak with a strategist for FREE todayGrand Canyon University: https://GCU.eduPaleovalley: 100% grass-fed beef sticks. What a week we have in store for you on the Sean Spicer Show! As we gear up for President Trump's first 100 days, we are bringing you interviews from the White House with Trump cabinet members to update us on everything the president has accomplished thus far. Over the weekend, world leaders lined up to shake President Trump's hand at Pope Francis's funeral. The lamestream media hoax machine did not take a break, claiming the Vatican asked attendees to wear black and released a zoomed in picture of President Trump in a blue suit. All you have to do is zoom out and see that nearly one-third of attendees were in blue as well. President Trump was able to sit down one on one with Zelenskyy to further the efforts of bring peace to the war in Ukraine. Also over the weekend was the WHCA dinner, with a flat out rejection from President Trump and his cabinet and no headline comedian, it was nearly impossible for the WHCA to convince lawmakers and celebrities to attend. Nonetheless, Eugen Daniels couldn't help but pretend the organization is the great arbiter of democracy. More activist judges showed their love for gang members and thankfully Kash Patel and the FBI took them out. Former judge Hannah Dugan tried to obstruct the arrest of an illegal alien and former judge Jose Cano had and MS-13 gang member living in his house. This week are look forward to celebrating President Trump's first 100 days in office. The accomplishments are extraordinary and we have inside access to the White House and cabinet members to give us exclusive details on the promises made, promises kept and what to look forward to in the future. It's time for the annual White House Correspondents Association Dinner at the Washington Hilton. But this year: No comedian. Which means: No jokes about C-SPAN … or about the Washington Hilton. In the past, at every dinner, there seemed to be at least one joke made about one or the other ... or sometimes both in the same joke — Like Conan O'Brien pulled off in 2013... Congratulations to C-SPAN for winning the bid to broadcast this event. They narrowly beat out HGTVQ, TV South America and the Hilton hotel how to check out channel. C-SPAN doesn't mind the ribbing. In fact, we did a podcast two years ago with the best-of jokes comedians told at the dinner ... about C-SPAN. We imagine the Washington Hilton can take a joke, too. So, in tribute to the hotel being a long-time central gathering spot for the political and media community — a true DC institution — and as a public service to those who still want to hear dinner jokes — this week's episode of C-SPAN's podcast "The Weekly" is equal parts history and loving roast ... We celebrate the hotel's 60th anniversary by presenting jokes told about it - by a group of people you won't hear at this year's dinner: professional comedians. Legacy media is shook over the new MAGA media stars disrupting everything inside the White House briefing room. Two of those stars are Monica Page Luisi and Natalie Winters, both on today's show. Along with Reagan Reese, White House Correspondent for The Daily Caller, this new wave of media personalities stand out for one main reason, they tell the truth. Legacy media outlets that have gaslit the American people for years are still reporting that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is just a "Maryland dad." They also didn't seem to care when millions of illegals were let into our country, now they cant handle 8 new voices that are actually delivering truthful reporting for the American people. New media is also providing alternatives to the White House correspondents dinner this weekend, hopefully this will be the last year the WHCA even attempts to hold the dinner as legacy media chokes on falling viewership. As big food ran rampant for years, suppressing the science on additives to our food, RFK Jr. is planning on getting all these poisons out of our food within 18 months. Biden racked up $1.7 Trillion in debt to American taxpayers for student loans and the Department of Education is taking this burden off the taxpayer and collecting on defaulted loans. The White House Correspondents Association dinner is just a week away. The big annual media black tie shindig in the basement of the Washington Hilton typically has several surprises. Like this film shown during 2000 dinner. "I want to thank the Academy for this tremendous honor. This may be the greatest moment of my life. I mean, hear since i was a little boy I wanted to be a real actor" That was Bill Clinton, his final dinner as president…. Holding a real-life Oscar and, in front of a mirror, practicing his Academy Award acceptance speech – that is, before Kevin Spacey shows up to snatch it back. Just like the dinner has surprises – this week's episode of C-SPAN's podcast "The Weekly" has its own surprise. We play best-of moments from four dinners – then hear four former presidents of the White House Correspondents Association talk about them. The former WHCA presidents who join us: • Carl Cannon • Ann Compton • Tamara Keith • and Susan Page What memories do they share? What tidbits do we learn about presiding over the big event? And what's it like eating dinner next to the president in front of thousands of people in person and a nationwide C-SPAN audience? Find out directly from these top White House correspondents in the new episode of "The Weekly." Find C-SPAN's "The Weekly" wherever you get podcasts. Learn more about your ad choices. On this episode of The Chuck ToddCast, Chuck dives into the new waters he's swimming in—the world of independent media and journalism. He shares his concerns about attacks on the free press by the Donald Trump administration and the lack of a unified pushback from the media. He explains how the erosion of local news sowed the seeds of public distrust, and he expresses his goal to help rebuild media from the ground up.Later, he's joined by independent journalist Tara Palmeri to dissect the new media landscape.Tara describes her journey into independent media and why authenticity resonates more than polish with digital news consumers. They discuss bias in journalism, why the WHCA made a mistake in selecting comedian Amber Ruffin to host the Correspondents' Dinner, and why the Trump administration's adversarial stance toward the media is a façade. Finally, Chuck explains his theories behind the “SignalGate” scandal, asks Tara how her relatives in Poland are processing the threat of the Ukraine war on their border, and discusses why both of them find the American right's embrace of Russia deeply disturbing.Timeline:0:00 Introduction1:45 Kicking AP out of press briefings is unconstitutional4:00 Traditional media has capitulated, lost trust7:00 Appeal of independent media11:00 OJ trial + Craigslist changed everything12:00 Loss of local news broke trust16:15 Local media was a character reference for national media19:00 Need to rebuild local media21:57 Tara Palmeri joins the show22:57 Going independent as a journalist27:56 Lack of trust in mainstream media30:52 Authenticity resonates on social media34:32 All journalism is affected by bias37:17 Is mainstream media pulling punches?41:36 Mistake picking Amber Ruffin for WH correspondents dinner45:26 Trump administration officials court the media50:07 Anchors were drinking before reporting Bin Laden was killed52:15 Where Tara gets her news57:11 Is there more to “SignalGate”59:25 Trump DOESN'T like to fire people1:02:41 Tara's Polish citizenship/How are Poles feeling about the Ukraine war?1:08:30 American right's embrace of Russia1:10:47 Where to find Tara's work1:13:16 Chuck's closing thoughts(Timestamps may vary based on advertisements)

We are a day away from filling the Congressional seats left vacant from Matt Gaetz and Mike Waltz. In Florida's 1st Congressional district Republican Jimmy Patronis is running against Democrat Gay Valimont and in Congressional district 6 state Senator Randy Fine and Democrat Josh Weil are running to replace National Security Advisor Mike Waltz's seat. Both districts are heavy Trump favorites with a 30 point victory back in November. The harder race to call is in Wisconsin, where Elon, Scott Pressler and many prominent MAGA influencers have been on the ground to get Waukesha County court judge Brad Schimel elected. Tomorrow is also Liberation Day, President Trump will impose reciprocal type tariffs on imported goods from other countries in an effort to free the United States from relying on foreign goods. The president has already brought in a flurry of investments and Peter Navarro foresees a $600 Billion annual increase in American prosperity. Elon Musk exposed absolutely insane fraud within Social Security, including millions of illegal immigrants receiving benefits. Harrison Fields joins me to discuss all things inside the Trump White House. Working alongside Karoline Leavitt, the White House has taken the reins from the WHCA in the press briefing room. The WHCA annual dinner might not even happen after the host, left-wing hack Amber Ruffin, slandered Harrison and his colleagues. The Trump administration is excited for Liberation Day and look forward to the economic boom they predict will be brought in from tariffs. The White House is flexing its power over the press core, featuring new media voices and hopefully sending the legacy outlets to the back of the room. The White House Correspondents Association cancelled left-wing hack comedian Amber Ruffin after an appearance she made went viral calling people in the Trump administration murderers. The WHCA is run by Eugene Daniels and he has also been very clear about how he feels about President Trump and his administration. Liberation day, as President Trump is calling it, goes into effect on April 2nd. Peter Navarro has very high hopes for the new tariffs, saying the plan will raise over $6 Trillion in federal revenue over the next decade.
SEASON 3 EPISODE 103: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: There is an alternate, rogue religious theory about an afterlife. It goes like this: "Hell" is not some place deep in the earth or anywhere else with eternal torture and fire. In fact, what we call "life" - THIS is hell. There is considerable new evidence this week that this theory is probably correct. The Washington Post had already been proving that its slogan "Democracy Dies In Darkness" was not a warning but Jeff Bezos's game plan. Now he's made it official: Op-eds are out; pro-Trump "liberties" and "free markets" are in. Other opinions need not apply. Bezos is a fascist. And he's only the third of three media disasters this week. To my surprise, Rachel Maddow DID say something about the Racist Purge at her MSNBC. Unfortunately, it wasn't the truth. She gave out the corporate cover story that Joy Reid "left" and "went out the door" and and and... she was FIRED. I guess I should've known. Rachel also didn't tell the truth when I left. I had kept her in my confidence as I negotiated my exit in 2010 and 2011 and the night it happened she was on Maher's show and though she knew everything, when he asked her about the breaking news - a few hours after my last email to her suggesting "this is it" she answered "This is the first I’m hearing about any of this. I know nothing about it.” And Trump's response to MSNBC throwing Reid into the volcano as a human sacrifice? He's threatening to sue them all anyway. And change the laws. And then there's the White House Correspondents Association. It did nothing about Trump trying to rewrite the Associated Press's stories. So now he's told them they will no longer select the pool reporter. But don't worry, the WHCA's cowardice won't go unpunished. Its president will be one of the new MSNBC hosts who can get sacrificed in the Trump Bottomless Bit later. B-Block (35:38) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Welcome to political scrutiny, Stephen A. Smith. Musk loves Trump - now. 2020? Called him an effing idiot. And this is how bad it is: Trump put one of my exes on the Kennedy Center board. C-Block (44:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: She's in the news and we need the laugh, so once again, the saga of my two dates with Laura Ingraham, one of the last times I thought "this might be the night I die."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Former Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney and National Review Contributing Editor Andy McCarthy joins Greg on today's 3 Martini Lunch in place of Jim. They discuss the White House taking control over press pool selections, Trump's tariffs jeopardizing a major political and economic opportunity with Canada, and CNN's Jake Tapper writing a book about the cover-up of Joe Biden's decline—after helping cover it up himself.First, Andy and Greg analyze the White House's new policy on press pool access for the Oval Office and Air Force One. While Andy thinks the White House wording on the policy shift is over the top, he says the the Trump press team has largely made a point of adding new voices rather than silencing others.Next, they critique Trump's plan to impose 25 percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico starting in March. Beyond the likelihood of higher prices for Americans, they highlight how these tensions have weakened Canada's conservative party, which once seemed poised for a massive victory but is now struggling. While Trump shouldn't prioritize Canadian politics, a conservative government there would align far better with his policies than Justin Trudeau's far-left successor. Finally, they call out the stunning hypocrisy of CNN's Jake Tapper. After downplaying and denying Biden's cognitive decline for years, Tapper is now co-authoring a book exposing Biden's decline and the efforts to conceal it. Andy and Greg document how Biden's decline was blatantly obvious for anyone honestly paying attention. Please visit our great sponsors: We've got you covered with a 35% discount! (AURN News) — The Trump administration announced Tuesday it will take control of determining which journalists participate in the White House press pool, marking a significant shift from decades of tradition. The press pool changes follow other major shifts implemented by the Trump administration since taking office in January, including federal employee buyouts and spending cuts through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Elon Musk. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the administration will now select media outlets that cover the president in close settings, a role previously managed by the White House Correspondents' Association. "As you all know, for decades, a group of D.C.-based journalists, the White House Correspondents' Association, has long dictated which journalists get to ask questions of the president of the United States in these most intimate spaces. Not anymore," Leavitt said during Tuesday's press briefing. Leavitt assured that established media organizations will maintain access while promising to include outlets previously excluded from these opportunities. "Legacy outlets who have participated in the press pool for decades will still be allowed to join, fear not, but we will also be offering the privilege to well-deserving outlets who have never been allowed to share in this awesome responsibility," she said. The administration will maintain the rotation among major television networks while adding streaming services. Print and radio pool participants will also be expanded to include local radio hosts and additional outlets, according to Leavitt. The White House Correspondents' Association responded with immediate concern. Association President Eugene Daniels said in a statement that the change "tears at the independence of a free press in the United States" and "suggests the government will choose the journalists who cover the president." Daniels noted that the association has consistently expanded its membership and pool rotations to include new outlets while maintaining professional standards and fairness in access. "To be clear, the White House did not give the WHCA board a heads up or have any discussions about today's announcements. But the WHCA will never stop advocating for comprehensive access, full transparency and the right of the American public to read, listen to and watch reports from the White House, delivered without fear or favor," Daniels said. Simplifying FECA Bulletin No. 24-06: A New Streamlined Process for War Hazards Compensation Act (WHCA) ClaimsCLAIM FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF BENEFIT PAYMENTS AND CLAIMS EXPENSE UNDER THE WAR HAZARDS COMPENSATION ACTThe U.S. Department of Labor has introduced a new process to speed up decisions on claims made under the War Hazards Compensation Act (WHCA). This process allows insurance companies to submit suggested claim decisions, which the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP) can approve if they meet all legal requirements. This change aims to make claim reimbursement processing faster and more efficient. With a few exceptions, the DBA incorporates the provisions of the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act (LHWCA). The War Hazards Compensation Act (WHCA) applies to DBA employees who are injured as a result of hostile actions. 42 U.S.C. §§ 1701 – 1717. While WHCA claims can be considerably substantial, the statute provides a detailed set of procedures and requirements which, if performed properly, allow the employer or carrier to see 100% reimbursement of such claims including allocated and unallocated expenses from the government. The WHCA provides financial coverage for employees injured or killed due to war-related hazards while working under the Defense Base Act. If an injury or death occurs because of a war risk hazard, private insurance carriers or self-insured employers can seek reimbursement for the benefits they have already paid out, such as: Disability and death benefits Funeral and burial costs Medical expenses Other necessary claim processing costsThe OWCP, through its Division of Federal Employees', Longshore, and Harbor Workers' Compensation (DFELHWC) division, reviews and decides whether a claim qualifies for reimbursement through the guidelines established in the Defense Base Act.The rules for requesting reimbursement under the WHCA are highly detailed and lengthy. Applications must be well-documented and include essential evidence that are outlined in the federal rules outlined in the DBS. For more information click on the transcript. Join Jim and Greg today as they chronicle South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem murdering her chances to become Trump's running mate, why the FBI's claims of falling crime rates are seriously flawed, and the media praising President Biden for preserving a free press when his actions suggest exactly the opposite.First, they dig into the four-day firestorm of criticism against South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, after it was revealed in her forthcoming autobiography that years ago she shot a 14-month-old dog when it failed as a hunting dog. They're also critical of Noem and hope this development takes her out of the running for the GOP vice presidential nomination since her previous personal and policy decisions already ought to disqualify her.Next, they groan as the FBI fails to get an accurate picture of crime rates across the nation by forcing local police to enter data in such a cumbersome way that some big cities don't enter crime statistics at all. And even in the cities where authorities do submit crime numbers, the FBI is still reporting lower numbers than local officials are announcing. Bottom line: the left's narrative that crime is plummeting (allegedly to 50-year lows) is dead wrong. Finally, they roll their eyes as NBC's Kelly O'Donnell lavishes praise on President Biden, saying his mere presence at the White House Correspondents Dinner is a strong defense of free speech and a free press. The British Media's failure to report on the Crown had a detrimental effect on the British Government leading up to WWII. Could this happen here in America? Is a journalist a "journalist" when the person they cover is someone they are clearly very friendly with?

A proposed route between the San Joaquin Valley and the Bay Area for California's bullet-train system received final approval Thursday from the California High Speed Rail Authority. The agency's board of directors, meeting in Sacramento, voted to certify a massive four-volume report of environmental and social impacts that the route would have on communities, farms, parks and wildlife habitats along the 89-mile stretch of the line from San Jose through Gilroy into Merced County. That vote set the stage for a second action that formally approved the preferred route, filtered out over a years-long process from among four options involving crossing the Diablo Range via Pacheco Pass west of Los Banos. “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah didn't discriminate when it came to the receiving end of his roasts during Saturday's White House Correspondents' Dinner. The comedian went after President Joe Biden, Democrats, Republicans and members of the media from CNN to Fox News. The headliner took the stage after the event's two-year pandemic hiatus to deliver the traditional WHCA dinner roast, quipping that it was his “great honor” to speak at the “nation's most distinguished superspreader event.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Fox News Radio's Jared Halpern has attended the White House Correspondents' Dinner 8 or 9 times. He says Saturday's event felt like a return to normalcy after Covid. He says comedian Trevor Noah did a good job of pointing out the freedoms that Americans have in terms of press and speech.
The enormous gap between the excitement in Washington about the return of the WHCA weekend and the ongoing anxiety of voters hit us hard this week as we watched focus groups of voters conducted by longtime Democratic pollster Celinda Lake. On Tuesday night, Lake talked to a group of “high -information” Democrats scattered around the country over a Zoom call while we watched on mute. This appeared to be one of the more financially well-off focus groups we've seen this year, but like the others, these voters were defined by their disgust. When asked the first word that popped into their mind about how things are going in the country, here's what they said: “frustrated,” “disbelief,” “aggravated,” “discouraged,” “unsure,” “worrying,” “resigned,” “frightened.” The only positive words offered were “better” and “OK.” Subscribe to the POLITICO Playbook newsletter Raghu Manavalan is the Host of POLITICO's Playbook. As Washington Times White House reporter Jeff Mordock explains, Black gun ownership increased 58.2% through the first six months of 2020, and it's expected that number will be similar for 2021, given the trends in purchases. Plus, President Biden takes on the meat industry, and the White House press room reverts back to limited capacity thanks to the omicron surge. The Washington Times is among the news outlets with a seat in the briefing room and is a member of the WHCA.

On this edition of the Nixon Now Podcast, we explore the history and mission of the White House Communications Agency or WHCA, the presidential support staff responsible for the facilitation of all communication throughout the White House, Camp David, presidential transportation, sites of major trips, and retreats like the Western White House in San Clemente. Our guest in studio is Michael Ebbing, who worked for WHCA as the head switchboard operator at Camp David. Interview by Jonathan Movroydis. On today's Bulwark podcast, SiriusXM's Olivier Knox, who serves as President of the White House Correspondents' Association, joins host Charlie Sykes to discuss the state of journalism, and why he decided to push the reset button on #NerdProm. Plus, a discussion about the Barr hearing and how the President's plan to replace NAFTA is impacting cheese exports. Special Guest: Olivier Knox.
President Donald Trump's unsustainable position on opposing staffers giving congressional testimony, some free advice for administration officials about the WHCA dinner and more in today's Audio Briefing.
Trump enters a whole other level of pettiness after he orders his staff not attend the WHCA's annual dinner. It has been ninety- eight years since the first White House Correspondents Dinner and in that time only one President, besides Trump, has not attended. In 1981, Ronald Reagan skipped the WHCA's dinner after being shot from an assassination attempt. This years dinner will not include a comedian, but a presidential historian, after the infamous Michelle Wolf's performance left some attendees applauding and others embarrassed and upset. With Trump and his crew declining to attend certainly won't make any difference to Bill though, it's just means more booze for him!Today's guests are Ryan Reilly from HuffPost, Niall Stanage from The Hill, and John Bennett from Roll Call.
Mesdames et Messieurs, c'est Olivier! Please gather for a very special hour with the one, the only OLIVIER KNOX (@oknox) and find out what makes one of your favorite journalists, radio hosts and CNN contributors tick -- his formative years in Paris, encountering that @juliemason and his duties, joys and struggles as the current WHCA president. You'll hear the creepiest detail of the George W. Bush shoe-throwing incident and why Olivier is being harangued by the anti-cheese establishment! All that and a segment in French! Dépêchez vous, mes choux -- it's ready for your listening pleasure!
This week, we talk #Thanksgiving, Hillary showing her fascist tendencies, more #AOC talk, SNL's disgusting defense of Amazon, and the WHCA capitulating to fascists.
Trump claims he's done more for the military than any other U.S. President, and yet he continually insults and demeans those who have served; Cory and Sean run through how Trump has handled military relations. Also, Trump chooses business over justice for Jamal Khashoggi, Ivanka has become "Crooked Ivanka," and an unusual choice for the White House Corespondent's Dinner.
My first episode includes an in-depth discussion with White House Correspondents Association President Olivier Knox, who reveals that several members of the White House press corps have obtained personal security details due to "credible" anti-press threats. He also offers insight into how the daily press briefings have been reduced and what the WHCA does beyond its annual dinner.
In this episode, Niki, Neil, and Natalia debate the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the Golden State Killer, and the news that Americans are forgetting the Holocaust. Support Past Present on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/pastpresentpodcast Here are some links and references mentioned during this week’s show: At this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, comedian Michelle Wolf caused controversy. You can watch Wolf’s full performance here. Niki referenced Megan Garber’s Atlantic article, “The Slow, Awkward Death of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.” Natalia cited this Columbia Journalism Review article noting that some members of the WHCA are opting to bring journalism students rather than celebrities to the event. The Golden State Killer, who claimed fifty victims in the 1970s and 80s, has been apprehended thanks to DNA evidence. Neil recommended Sarah Zhang’s Atlantic article explaining how police investigators used genealogy websites to find the killer. (We discussed genetic testing websites on Episode 90.) Niki referred to Michelle McNamara’s posthumously published I’ll Be Gone in the Dark that helped solve the crime, and Neil referenced McNamara’s Los Angeles magazine article about how the serial killer terrorized California. Natalia recommended the Atlanta Monster podcast that chronicles a serial killer who victimized that city. A troubling report suggests Americans are decreasingly aware of the scale of the Holocaust. Natalia discussed Rebecca Onion’s Slate article historicizing this apparent illiteracy. Niki cited this Atlantic article considering Poland’s relationship to its role in the Holocaust along with Timothy Snyder’s Bloodlands and Jan Gross’ Neighbors. In our regular closing feature, What’s Making History: Neil shared Dana Goldstein’s New York Times article, “Teacher Pay is So Low in Some U.S. School Districts That They Are Recruiting Overseas.” Natalia discussed Kyle Swenson’s Washington Post article, “Harold Bornstein: Exiled from Trumpland, Doctor Now ‘Frightened and Sad’.” Niki discussed Pamela Burger’s JSTOR Daily article, “The Bloody History of the True Crime Genre.”
It’s been a year of Spiraling! The WHCA dinner, Andy loses an award but still has a win, an interview with “Dennis Miller,” a listener geography quiz, some music from the vaults, listener questions, and much more spiraling.

Michelle Wolf’s roast of Washington media, politicians and other Beltway power players at Saturday’s White House Correspondent’s Association dinner left many with a sour taste in their mouths. The controversy around Wolf’s performance has dominated the social and news media conversation for the last 48 hours, inspiring debate and discussion about the role and purpose of the dinner in promoting the 1st Amendment. Olivier Knox, SiriusXM’s Chief Washington Correspondent and the incoming president of the White House Correspondent’s Association, notes that some members of the WHCA were critical of Wolf's performance because it “sends the message that we are in fact anti-Trump…that we are at war, not at work.” However, Knox adds, “I happen to think we’re not at war. We are at work.” Knox joins the guys to discuss the controversy and how the WHCA plans to continue in its work to support journalists covering the White House. Rick and guest co-host Bill Tucker also talk about ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp’s assertion that journalists should not call out the president and his staff when they lie, but should let the American people decide for themselves who is telling the truth.
Our guest on this episode of C-SPAN's The Weekly Podcast is George Condon, White House Correspondent for the National Journal and a past President of the White House Correspondents Association. Talk of the Towns | WERU 89.9 FM Blue Hill, Maine Local News and Public Affairs Archives
Producer/Host: Ron Beard Studio Engineer: Amy Browne Issue: Community concerns and opportunities Program Topic: Where is Poverty Now? Key Discussion Points: a. CAP agencies were established as one of the key strategies in the war on poverty, declared by President Lyndon Johnson in January, 1964… what was their basic role? b. What do we know about poverty today… are there differences that have emerged over the last 50 years? c. How have CAP agencies changed… what approaches are you trying now that might not have been part of the original design? Provide an overview of WHCA programs and the role of people with low incomes on your board, involvement in the design and delivery of programs… d. How is WHCA working with homeless vets? What do we know about the “dimensions” of the problem? How did you get started? What are the ways in which you tackle to problem? What are some of the results? e. Is there more awareness of poverty as a community issue… talk about the emergence of poverty as a risk factor when Healthy Peninsula began work to help school children succeed? What led to the series of community workshops on Blue Hill peninsula, including a recent one… who is Donna Beegle, and how has she helped frame the issue here in Maine and nationally? f. What other trends do you see that indicate that poverty and its affects are increasing? (food pantry use, free community meals, general assistance, private and public efforts around fuel assistance, etc..) Is this a shift from assuming that poverty should be addressed by local efforts vs federal programs… what levels of magnitude are evident, between federal efforts like Community Action Program, HeadStart and others, and grassroots efforts like the Tree of Life Food Pantry and its sister efforts? g.Part of the discussion about poverty relates to another trend in the US… growing income disparity between the very wealthy and the rest, including the middle class and the poor… do you see this disparity having a bearing on how you work on issues of poverty locally, or is this an issue best solved at the national level? h. What inspires you to continue working on issues of poverty and its affects on people and the wider community? Guests: a. Mark Green, Washington-Hancock Community Agency b. Bobbi Harris, Washington-Hancock Community Agency c. Barbara Peppey, Healthy Peninsula The post Talk of the Towns 1/24/14 first appeared on WERU 89.9 FM Blue Hill, Maine Local News and Public Affairs Archives.
