Just ask them, they'll tell you… before they vote JD Vance in '28. Don't you wish all politics could be just local again? There goes the Voting Rights Act. There go voting rights. Why is there so much confusion about the White House Correspondents Association shooter? Yep, you guessed it. Republicans held it together just long enough to end the DHS shutdown.

The giant chasm between the media and reality has never been as clear as it is now, in the wake of a shooting at the White House Correspondents Association dinner. News agencies have long ignored and downplayed left-wing violence. Instead of covering it, they've run cover for it and churned out content designed to radicalize people even further. Now, that hatred hit home. Today, Josh shares proof that left-wing violence is more popular than right-wing violence in America, especially among young people. Plus, former guest Mike Pesca points out something important about what the authorities did to the shooter at the gala — and the profound hypocrisy of the media not caring. Josh also tackles another big media issue: anonymous sourcing. The Atlantic published a piece alleging that FBI Director Kash Patel is “MIA,” based entirely on unnamed people. Josh shows how the media has misused anonymous sourcing for so long that many people distrust them. He highlights particularly disastrous cases of anonymous sources being wrong — including a CNN example that put lives in danger. Even coverage of Patel's response served as a reminder of media failure. He made nonsensical claims about his own record, but the media parroted him anyway. Josh explains, and tells you about an anonymous source who referred to a vice president as “I.” In the newsletter: Beware the White House Correspondents Dinner Conspiracy Theories Share thoughts and questions through the newsletter or the form at joshlevs.com Support: ☕BuyMeACoffee.com/joshlevs, PayPal.me/JoshLevs Please remember to subscribe✅, rate ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, and review✍️!

The setting was the same as it's always been: the elegant ballroom in the basement of the Washington Hilton. There, the president, vice president and other high-ranking officials gathered with around 2500 guests to celebrate freedom of speech. But instead of being a light-hearted gala as it had been in the past, fear and pandemonium soon reigned. The White House Correspondents Association dinner on Saturday marked the third time since the summer of 2024 that a gunman was able to get dangerously close to now-president Donald Trump. Was security to blame? And what were the gunman's motives? On Saturday evening, there was a shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington, D.C. President Trump and members of his cabinet were rushed out of the room, and Trump later gave a surprisingly calm press conference. Authorities have a suspect in custody. Normally, security is extremely tight wherever the President goes, but several journalists reported that security at the event felt surprisingly lax. As politicians took to the Sunday shows to call for unity, internet gumshoes are speculating as to whether the shooting was staged. MSNOW Senior Washington Correspondent and former President of the White House Correspondents Association, Eugene Daniels, helps us make sense of it all.And in headlines, Trump backs out of negotiations with Iran in Pakistan, Republicans use the Correspondents' Dinner shooting to call for an end to the Department of Homeland Security shutdown, and the Department of Justice drops its investigation of former Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, which opens the door for Kevin Warsh to be named as his successor.Show Notes: Check out Eugene's podcast – https://tinyurl.com/2tfpp6jn Call Congress – 202-224-3121 Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/y4y2e9jy What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcast Follow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/ For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt opens an unscheduled briefing days before her maternity leave to address the third assassination attempt on President Trump, which occurred Saturday at the White House Correspondents Association dinner. A shooter attempted to breach the security perimeter and was immediately neutralized. One Secret Service agent took a bullet to the chest and was saved by his vest. Leavitt directly links the attempt to years of heated anti-Trump rhetoric from Democrat officials and media figures, citing specific quotes, and calls out Congress for leaving DHS defunded for 73 consecutive days. She also briefly addresses Iran negotiations, the Strait of Hormuz mine clearing operation, and the status of Kevin Warsh's Fed chairmanship confirmation.
Donald Trump's dislike of the press has seen him repeatedly refuse to attend the annual White House correspondent's dinner in Washington DC.But this year he'd taken his seat not long before a 31 year old tried to burst into the function room armed with guns and knives. John breaks down the biggest news event of the weekend, the shocking events that unfolded at the annual White House Correspondents Association dinner. This event marked the first time Donald Trump attended the dinner as president, a notable shift after he skipped the event throughout his first term and last year. While the media socialized with members of the administration and cabinet, security at the Washington Hilton was reportedly insufficient. Journalist Joe DePaolo noted that entering the perimeter was dangerously easy, requiring only a digital photo of an invitation without a QR code. As attendees like JD Vance, Mike Johnson, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were evacuated, those remaining in the ballroom sheltered under tables. The breach highlights significant concerns regarding the Secret Service protocols and the decision of the White House Correspondents Association to host the event despite ongoing tensions between the administration and the free press. High profile figures including Pete Hegseth, Mark Wayne Mullen, and Brendan Carr were present as the situation unfolded. Hawk reflects on the desensitization to such violence in America while highlighting the specific security lapses that allowed an armed individual to reach the lobby area. While many on the left suspect the incident was staged, the broader issue lies in the willingness of the White House Correspondents Association to honor a man who labeled the media the enemy of the people for over a decade. The presence of Brendan Carr, chair of the FCC, highlights the ongoing threats of punitive actions against the press for unfavorable coverage. The discussion centers on the complicity of the media, particularly white men and white women, who continue to support or normalize these power dynamics. Don Lemon publicly refused to attend, highlighting the discomfort of pretending everything is normal while the physical safety of journalists is threatened. While 92% of black women voted for Kamala Harris, statistics show a different story for other demographics, leading to the argument that there are no white victims in a second Trump term, only volunteers. The desire to reschedule the event stems not from patriotism, but from a need to berate the press directly. Journalists seem prepared to grovel for access journalism, accepting misogyny and insults to remain close to power. This cycle of desensitization to gun violence and the surrender of the media to those who demean them reflects a troubling shift in democracy and government.

SEASON 4 EPISODE 66: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: It's literally a disaster of BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS. Some of Trump’s Troops are being told that it isn't 'war with Iran' - it's a war to start a Biblical Armageddon: “Trump has been anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to earth” says one whistle-blower NCO about his commanding officer. You heard it: a non-zero number of Trump Commanders aren't just fighting an illegal, ill-prepared, ill-fated war against an Iran that posed no realistic threat. To them it's a literal Holy War, start the apocalypse, end times, and then they all get raptured. More than 200 reports of such religious insanity, to a group called MRFF (Military Religious Freedom Foundation) and reported by one of my former MSNBC Coordinating Producers, Jonathan Larsen. MRRF is pushing back against us doing the whole Book of Revelations Crusades thing - and the newest development: the religious nuts in the military are holding emergency bible classes for those who may be deployed. Maybe not Apocalypse Now but Apocalypse SOON. The religious nut jobs are in charge, Hegseth may be in on the delusion, and so: no sign of bad luck in Rapture. B-Block (35:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The right wing allegation that MAGA Twitter twerp "Gunther Eagleman" only retweets if you pay him; Markwayne Mullin mistakes the smell of plumbing for the smell of war and keeps referring to "President Hegseth", and Weijia Jiang, CBS News reporter and president of the White House Correspondents Association. She and they not only actually insulted every journalist ever by inviting Trump to the Correspondents' Dinner - but he accepted and thinks he's getting an award. Trump is a man who has literally tried to get reporters killed for a decade, and they're going to sit in the same room with him. I guess because Goebbels is dead and is unavailable. I don't usually say 'I really went off on these idiots' but - I really went off on these WHCA idiots. C-Block (50:00) THURBER'S VERSION OF THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: His magazine-length version of his only non-fiction book, "The Years With Ross" about the founding of "The New Yorker" magazine (and its legendary, almost mythical founder, Harold Ross). It is as hysterical - and sometimes nearly as impossible to believe - as the best of his fiction.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Nationwide, state and local officials are pushing back against President Trump's plans to send the National Guard into various Democratic-run cities for crime and immigration enforcement support. One of the top Democrats leading the resistance is Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker. Trump has recently said that he believes Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson should be arrested for what he believes is mismanagement of the Windy City. “Should we have a president who is threatening to jail his political opponents with no evidence of any wrongdoing, just that we oppose what he's trying to do to our country, which is to militarize our cities and turn us into an authoritarian regime?” Pritzker says. “I don't think that any American thinks that we ought to be jailing people just for their views.” In this week's episode of The Conversation, Pritzker joins POLITICO's Dasha Burns to denounce the Trump administration's immigration enforcement strategy, combat the administration's narratives surrounding cities like Chicago, and discuss the future of the Democratic Party. Plus, Fox News Senior White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich comes on to talk about the difference between covering the Trump and Biden administrations, her role on the White House Correspondents Association board and the Pentagon's attempts to impose new restrictions on reporters there.

[00:30] Photo of the Year (22 minutes) President Trump stated he will be a two-term president. The White House Correspondents Association dinner is just a week away. The big annual media black tie shindig in the basement of the Washington Hilton typically has several surprises. Like this film shown during 2000 dinner. "I want to thank the Academy for this tremendous honor. This may be the greatest moment of my life. I mean, hear since i was a little boy I wanted to be a real actor" That was Bill Clinton, his final dinner as president…. Holding a real-life Oscar and, in front of a mirror, practicing his Academy Award acceptance speech – that is, before Kevin Spacey shows up to snatch it back. Just like the dinner has surprises – this week's episode of C-SPAN's podcast "The Weekly" has its own surprise. We play best-of moments from four dinners – then hear four former presidents of the White House Correspondents Association talk about them. The former WHCA presidents who join us: • Carl Cannon • Ann Compton • Tamara Keith • and Susan Page What memories do they share? What tidbits do we learn about presiding over the big event? And what's it like eating dinner next to the president in front of thousands of people in person and a nationwide C-SPAN audience? Find out directly from these top White House correspondents in the new episode of "The Weekly." Find C-SPAN's "The Weekly" wherever you get podcasts. Learn more about your ad choices. I was in attendance at the rose garden for President Trump's Liberation Day speech. The president unveiled 8 pages of new tariffs on about 90 countries in an effort to balance a trading disparity the U.S. has gotten accustomed to for decades. While this feels like a massive shake-up in the moment, the reality is President Trump is securing wealth and prosperity for generations to come. Cory Booker gave a 25 hour speech that basically did nothing. The media hyped him up for his 4 day fast and the support he got from his tennis shoes but the reality is the main headline was that he didn't go to the bathroom the entire time. A California judge released an incredible video on guns and actually pleads the case for protecting the 2nd amendment. Lesley Stahl asked the most embarrassing question in 60 Minutes history to a recently released hostage of Hamas. Amber Rufflin is bitter she got fired from the White House Correspondents Association dinner and Jasmine Crockett admits she was a DEI hire. The White House is flexing its power over the press core, featuring new media voices and hopefully sending the legacy outlets to the back of the room. The White House Correspondents Association cancelled left-wing hack comedian Amber Ruffin after an appearance she made went viral calling people in the Trump administration murderers. I made it very much known to all Republicans, do not support this, do not go to the dinner, do not give this any of your energy. The WHCA is run by Eugene Daniels and he has also been very clear about how he feels about President Trump and his administration. Liberation day, as President Trump is calling it, goes into effect on April 2nd. Peter Navarro has very high hopes for the new tariffs, saying the plan will raise over $6 Trillion in federal revenue over the next decade. A law firm in New York City is helping illegal immigrants to file and receive tax refunds. Three special elections are taking place that are essential to maintain a Republican majority, I break it all down for you right here on the Sean Spicer Show. The White House Correspondents Association is already having a bad week. They fired comedian Amber Ruffin from their White House Correspondents Dinner. Add to that President Trump is taking over the seating chart in the White House Briefing Room. What will they do as the left sees them as weak? Curtis Houck takes it on.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt joins me on today's show! From one Press Secretary to another, Karoline and I discuss working in the White House under President Trump. Karoline is adjusting to the very demanding pace of working for President Trump as lightning fast policy and executive orders are made. Karoline and the White House striped the White House Correspondents Association of its stranglehold over who gets access to the president after years of dominating the press pool. Karoline also opened up doors for new media outlets that were revoked by the Biden administration, allowing fair and honest journalism back in the White House. Tina Anderson of Just Thrive Health then joins me to discuss RFK Jr's meeting with big food. RFK Jr. pressured the CEO's of some of America's biggest food companies to stop using all artificial dyes in American food. Companies like Steak and Shake are ditching seed oils already for beef tallow, following RFK Jr's commitment to Make America Healthy Again. SEASON 3 EPISODE 107: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: He has to go. And Minority Whip Katherine Clark. And Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar. And for that matter, Gavin Newsom has to go. Because after these standard-issue moderate Democrats vanished on election night they have suddenly reappeared 125 days later to address the REAL issue: Democratic House members who actually DID something to protest Trump - even just something symbolic like Al Green did, or those who supported him did. Jeffries and the others called them to a "come to Jesus" meeting to warn them never to ignore his "Dear Colleague" letter again, that the way to stand up to Trump lighting the county and the world on fire is to hold up mincing little pickle ball paddles with mild words on them and especially to coordinate outfits while not clapping. Out. Jeffries, Clark, Aguilar. And anybody else who doesn't realize that the last people capable of piercing Trump's bubble are Democrats at his speeches to Congress, and the media which has failed at the task even more than the Dems have. We need civil disobedience and instead Jeffries is warning Democrats, and 10 Democrats are joining the fascists, in punishing Democrats. And Newsom? His comments about trans athletes are bad enough. That he did them during a podcast with Charlie Kirk, arranged by Newsom's ex-wife Kim Guilfoyle, is far worse. I mean Newsom's judgment was already in doubt (he married Kim Guilfoyle FFS), but this is insanity. The nation is ablaze and the Dems are sending strongly worded notes. The media continues to collapse. It believed Trump's lies about pressuring Russia while he was in fact increasing his demands of Ukraine to include Zelensky resigning. And when Trump told a reporter he couldn't ask a certain question the White House Correspondents Association continued its policy of not commenting. And golly why did Trump think he could publicly threaten Nicolle Wallace and Rachel Maddow? Well, because of Joe Scarborough, obvs. B-Block (38:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Stephen A. Smith is not running for president, but keep asking him. Happily he IS showing he doesn't understand the first thing about any of this. His newest political crush? Candace Owens. Meanwhile Musk doesn't understand sports or America. And the Prime Minister of New Zealand fired a diplomat for reminding Britain that Trump is simply doing now what they did to Czechoslovakia in 1938. C-Block (49:20) THURBER SPECIAL: Thurber House in Columbus, Ohio, needs about $200,000 to keep going. The least we can do is raise consciousness. So for the first time since the election here is not just one but two Thurber stories: my favorite ("A Box To Hide In") and my late father's ("I Went To Sullivant." Press freedom concerns are bubbling up at the White House. The Associated Press is suing the Trump administration after being barred from covering the Oval Office. Now the White House said it will decide which news outlets can regularly cover President Donald Trump in what's known as the press pool. The decision, announced last week, breaks from a tradition where an independently chosen press pool follows the president and holds him accountable on behalf of the American public. Pool reporters were previously determined by the White House Correspondents Association. The group has said the decision “tears at the independence of a free press.” Joining Minnesota Now is someone who has experience covering the White House. Ben Tracy is the former senior White House correspondent with CBS News and a St. Paul native.
SEASON 3 EPISODE 103: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: There is an alternate, rogue religious theory about an afterlife. It goes like this: "Hell" is not some place deep in the earth or anywhere else with eternal torture and fire. In fact, what we call "life" - THIS is hell. There is considerable new evidence this week that this theory is probably correct. The Washington Post had already been proving that its slogan "Democracy Dies In Darkness" was not a warning but Jeff Bezos's game plan. Now he's made it official: Op-eds are out; pro-Trump "liberties" and "free markets" are in. Other opinions need not apply. Bezos is a fascist. And he's only the third of three media disasters this week. To my surprise, Rachel Maddow DID say something about the Racist Purge at her MSNBC. Unfortunately, it wasn't the truth. She gave out the corporate cover story that Joy Reid "left" and "went out the door" and and and... she was FIRED. I guess I should've known. Rachel also didn't tell the truth when I left. I had kept her in my confidence as I negotiated my exit in 2010 and 2011 and the night it happened she was on Maher's show and though she knew everything, when he asked her about the breaking news - a few hours after my last email to her suggesting "this is it" she answered "This is the first I’m hearing about any of this. I know nothing about it.” And Trump's response to MSNBC throwing Reid into the volcano as a human sacrifice? He's threatening to sue them all anyway. And change the laws. And then there's the White House Correspondents Association. It did nothing about Trump trying to rewrite the Associated Press's stories. So now he's told them they will no longer select the pool reporter. But don't worry, the WHCA's cowardice won't go unpunished. Its president will be one of the new MSNBC hosts who can get sacrificed in the Trump Bottomless Bit later. B-Block (35:38) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Welcome to political scrutiny, Stephen A. Smith. Musk loves Trump - now. 2020? Called him an effing idiot. And this is how bad it is: Trump put one of my exes on the Kennedy Center board. C-Block (44:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: She's in the news and we need the laugh, so once again, the saga of my two dates with Laura Ingraham, one of the last times I thought "this might be the night I die."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The real head of DOGE has been revealed and it's not Elon Musk, President Trump is wresting control of the press pool away from the White House Correspondents Association, and the U.S. may soon offer green cards to anyone able to afford a five million dollar fee. It's Thursday, and that means we have an all star panel show for you with Ashley Hayek, Jessica Anderson and Larry O'Connor. Larry's new book Shameless Liars: How Trump defeated the legacy media and made them irrelevant is a testament to President Trump's fighting spirit. The book is a call to Conservatives and Republicans to stand up, fight and win when faced with lies and mischaracterization. President Trump's first cabinet meeting caused another legacy media tailspin because Elon Musk was there and actually spoke at the meeting. His email to federal employees to name five things they did was also a "pulse check" to make sure these people are real and actually alive. In his first 30 days in office, President Trump has answered 1,009 questions from the media, making him the most accessible and transparent president in history. Karoline Leavitt is "seizing" control from the White House Correspondents Association and opening the White House to media outlets that would have never gotten the opportunity before. Pam Bondi has stated she will release the Epstein files tonight, making sure she protects the 250 victims in the documents she called "sickening." The White House is changing the process of how reporters cover the president. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the Trump administration will choose which media outlets will be part of a pool of reporters that cover events and travel with the president. Previously the pool was organized by the White House Correspondents Association. Geoff Bennett discussed more with Brian Stelter of CNN.
