Kenneth Arthur and JB Scott discuss the high stakes and more on this installment of Turf Show Times: The Podcast. A win against the Carolina Panthers would set the Rams up for a massive Week 8 game against their biggest rival - the San Francisco 49ers. But Los Angeles cannot look past the Panthers, despite their 1-4 record on the new season. This is a Carolina team that has nothing to lose - and they'll want to come out of the gate strong for their new head coach, Steve Wilks. We've seen a number of teams respond positively to a change at head coach in the middle of the season, but many times these moves don't give much of a boost to already bad teams. It doesn't make a difference for the Rams. This isn't a must win for them - it's a cannot lose. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

The Seattle Seahawks, for the second time this season, return home from a trip to Philadelphia with a 17-9 victory. The most significant difference between the two games was the play of rookie wide receiver D.K. Metcalf. After being held to three catches for 35 yards in the first appearance, he bounced back to set the NFL record for most receiving yards in a rookie's first playoff game. Metcalf's 160 receiving yards was the most by a Seahawks receiver in franchise history breaking a record held by Darrell Jackson since 2005. Kenneth Arthur joins the show to recap a game between two of the most injured teams to make the post season. Next weekend, Seattle will play the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday, on a field where the Seahawks haven't won since Mike Holmgren returned there for the first time in 1999. The Seahawks jumped out to a 24-0 halftime lead thanks to an interception by linebacker Mychal Kendricks and three red zone trips that resulted in touchdowns. Russell Wilson was perfect on his targets to Tyler Lockett as that connection counted for more than half of Wilson's yards through the air. However, the Seahawks defense allowed the Falcons and backup quarterback Matt Schaub to put up 20 points in the second half and 460 yards through the air. Kenneth Arthur joins the podcast this week to talk about the Seahawks 27-20 victory as they go to 6-2 on the season. Since 2012, the Seahawks are now 54-0 when leading by four or more at the half. Seahawks fans may have expected a larger margin of victory after a big first half, but their lead never faced a serious challenge. With just over three minutes left to go in the game, the Falcons went for a two-point conversion that would have made it a one possession game for Atlanta. Bobby Wagner, who became the franchise leader in tackles for the Seahawks, was there to break up the pass and help seal the victory. This week on The MEAT we have Kenneth Arthur, Allyson Phillips and Jonny Svarzbein on the show. Together the host Goofballs: A Football Podcast and individually they are all great improvisers to boot. They start off talking about the NFL season, fantasy football and where to put awards you don't care about. Kenny tells a story about a time he did a road trip around the country writing about the NFL for Rolling Stone. Then Aly shares a story about a nightmare flight she had from NYC to Los Angeles involving unaccompanied minors and old perverts. These true stories inspire improvised scenes about disgusting Buffalo Bills fans, a doctor's office with plenty of flair, a plane full of perverts and a whole lot more! This week my guests are Joe Fahey and Kenneth Arthur and we discuss the movie The Aviator. In this Scorsese directed movie, Leonardo DiCaprio plays troubled billionaire Howard Hughes. Although we don't agree on Leo's acting chops we still came together to perform a version of the plot filled with action, intrigue and romance. Enjoy!
"The Duo" welcome Improvisor and Sports Writer, Kenneth Arthur, as their special guest for yet another hilarious episode of #HMFMV. The guys talk about a two man improv set Nick & James recently performed, the purpose of this podcast, Kenneth's name, and predictions for the upcoming NFL season.
The Seahawks have signed what many hope to be their most impactful free agent signing yet by bringing in D.J. Fluker. Fluker is another top draft pick from the 2013 season, and Kenneth Arthur, managing editor of Field Gulls, joins us to talk about the move along with some of his observations from the offseason to this point. One of the things Kenneth likes best about the Fluker signing - it's better than paying top dollar for the other guards who hit the market. But the best possible outcome might be finding a guard via the draft who can ultimately take over at that position. Despite all of the change this offseason, Kenneth says the direction of the team seems to be an approach toward sticking to the philosophy that got the team to a Super Bowl. Cutting Richard Sherman even allows them to keep last year's roster together as much as possible by allowing them to keep Dion Jordan, Justin Coleman, Bradley McDougald and potentially Byron Maxwell. The Seahawks were at their best when they had rookies playing at a high level with contracts that were far below the value they offered. They were able to find players in that "middle class" who were able to compete and produce in ways that led them to extensions with the team. In hindsight, perhaps it would have been better to move on from those players. We discuss the projections of the Seahawks possibly only winning six games, and Kenneth points out how a top quarterback like Phillip Rivers has been able to produce winning seasons without a lot of help around him. Even if a couple big names leave, Russell Wilson should be able to lead the Seahawks to a winning record. Clinton Bonner joins the show to talk about some of the moves from the offseason including Luke Willson's departure. He talks about what he's going to miss most from the Wilson to Willson connection. He also has a new public access show he's starting called TNT Dynamite Thursdays that launches on Thursday. The show closes with calls to do better for Cowboys fans who feel entitled to Earl Thomas and to Mike Freeman for a nonsensical take on how things will go for Russell Wilson this coming year. Better at life honors go to UMBC and their Twitter account manager and to a caretaker of an island off the coast of Italy. Ian hops on the phone with Kenneth Arthur, Managing Editor of Field Gulls -- the primary source of knowledge and analysis for all things Seahawks -- to discuss how he got into sports blogging and whether the 'Hawks will stay relevant in the Pacific Northwest. Ian is then joined by out-of-the-box marketer Doug Abbott of DouglassM Digital for a detailed analysis of which cities Seattle should steal an NBA team from.
