While at Lance Christensen's, I was also able to get a recording in with accomplished falconer and veterinarian Ross Dirks. I'm glad he was there helping Lance to prep birds for shipping to their new owners, because this conversation was a blast to have! We talked about some of his different experiences as a veterinarian, flying falcons and goshawks, and lots of other great stuff before I headed back down to record more with Ian Anderson and other friends last July. It was another whirlwind weekend, but so glad I did it so I could share these conversations with you all! Enjoy! Are you a Californian who feels isolated and alone in your political views in a deep blue state? Feel like you can't talk about insane taxes, an overbearing government, and radical social experiments without getting a side eye? Then join us on the California Underground Podcast to hear from people just like you. Original air date 11.19.24 Summary In this episode of the California Underground Podcast, hosts Phil and Camlle along with guest Lance Christensen discuss the topic of the Department of Education and whether it should be abolished. They explore the historical context of the department, the challenges facing California's education system, and the importance of localism and competition in education. The conversation also touches on the role of school choice, federal funding implications, and the future of education in California. Lance emphasizes the need for community involvement and the potential for reform at the local level. *The California Underground Podcast is dedicated to discussing California politics from a place of sanity and rationality.* Check out our full site for more information about the show at www.californiaunderground.live Follow California Underground on Social Media Instagram: www.instagram.com/californiaunderground X: https://twitter.com/CAUndergound Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@californiaunderground?_t=8o6HWHcJ1CM&_r=1 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCj8SabIcF4AKqEVFsLmo1jA Read about our Privacy Policy: https://www.spotify.com/us/legal/privacy-policy/
We're taking a short break from Texas and heading back briefly to Iowa! Earlier this July, I had a chance to meet up with Ian Anderson, and during that time, while kindly hosting me for a couple of days, we got a chance to sit down and talk about his experiences flying goshawks and some of the different lessons he's learned during his time in falconry. As an added bonus, we also got a chance to run our dachshunds while I was up there! Special thanks again to Ian for helping to coordinate the recordings with Lance Christensen, and a few others you haven't heard yet! This was a more recently recorded episode, one of which that I'm very excited to bring to you all! While navigating a very busy work and travel schedule the whole month of July, thanks to the partial collaborative help of Ian Anderson, I found myself making the 11 hour trek to meet up with Lance Christensen and others to talk shop! I had heard a lot about Lance from mutual friends and other falconers who've gotten birds from him, but I was very much looking forward to going over some of the science behind breeding, discussing the reasoning and rationale behind the preference of parent-reared goshawks, and as always, Lance's beginnings in falconry, and other topics. Thanks again to Lance for taking the time out of his busy weekend trying to organize bird distribution logistics to have this conversation! Hector And Mike Experience - Common Sense In An Uncommon World
Today, we talked with Lance Christensen about his work with Fix California Education - Education Saving Account Act of 2022. Californians pay high taxes for an expensive and outdated public education system that fails our children and does not prepare them for the 21st-century economy. Despite record spending on education this year, California public schools continue to rank below the national average in academics. The Education Savings Account Act of 2022 is a bi-partisan approach that provides the opportunity to have the funds follow the students so parents can decide which school offers the best options and learning experiences for their students. Additionally, extra funds not used before graduating high school can be saved for college or vocational schools. And the best part is that this comes at no additional cost to taxpayers. Here are some of the items that the Education Saving Account would provide parents: Students can opt into a K-12 savings account with $13,000 a year in state education funds. Parents can send their kids to an accredited school or homeschool of their choice. Funds can be used for tuition and other eligible education expenses. Children from low to medium-income families get initial access in the first four years. Up to $60,000 of leftover funds can be saved for college. So here we are - vaccinations are now being mandated in hospitals and healthcare facilities or... you're fired! And now we have booster shots for the 65 and over crowd as well as vaccines for 5 year old children as soon as Halloween! Room for (and tolerance for) the unvaccinated is shrinking. Here comes the vaccine mandates. Lou talks with Lance Christensen from the California Policy Center about all that is happening and how it's impacting our kids and our schools.
