It's a wrap! Well, on this album anyway. Kev finds a Kiss song that he really rather likes and the boys discuss the relative merits of the Gene "trilogy" of songs that closes out this album. What will Kev be licking? Will Corey rate side B higher than Side A and will Vinnie Vincent actually play something worth listening to? The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and tell it to the people right now!Songs covered in this episode: "All Hell's Breakin' Loose", "A Million to One", "Fits Like a Glove", "Dance All Over Your Face", "And on the 8th Day"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/76F8G8FEX8Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash Hosted on Acast. Craig Wright returns to the show this week as we rank the rest of the studio albums in the KISS Katalog. This is another fun conversation filled with laughter and light hearted jabs at each others rankings.
Well, well, well. Kev never thought he'd be podcasting about Kiss! We're going paintless and probably, at some point, pantless, as we dig into one of the most over-the-top bands of all time. But will Kev find a single second of Kiss that he can enjoy? Will Corey enjoy the aggressive vocal stylings of Gene Simmons, and will Kiss be able to pull it off (or lick it up) without all that iconic facepaint? The only way to find out is to turn on, tune in, and gimme more!Songs covered in this episode: "Exciter", "Not for the Innocent", "Lick It Up", "Young and Wasted", "Gimme More"Don't forget to follow us on social media and leave us a rating/review if you're enjoying the show!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/UltimateCatalogueClashBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/ucatalogueclash.bsky.socialDiscord: https://discord.gg/76F8G8FEX8Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/ultimatecatalogueclash Hosted on Acast. Just to be 100% TRANSparent, this is NOT an officially sanctioned “Chronicles” episode. However, it is the time of year for the TRANS-Siberian Orchestra (featuring the “Savatage Brothers”) and we felt compelled by the power of the holiday season to delve into the realm of HAIR METAL and reflect back on one of the least desirable (yet often most satisfying) subgenres of metal alongside memories of poon from the days of yore with the kinds of girls you would “meet once at a party and never talk to again”. Really, the entire objective of hair metal was to give actual metal heads an “in” to attaining money, drugs, and (especially) poon back in the day. Dust off your “gloves of shame” and get ready to “rip the band-aid off” and “power through it” because it's time to “hold hands”, discover some “stall appropriate noises” for the next time you've got to “deuce” and JOIN US as we get into the good, the bad, and the horrific of HAIR METAL. This week Tom & Zeus review the 1984-1985 Animalize tour which was in support of their 12th studio album, Animalize. This is SIOL's 9th KISS tour reviewed. This tour followed the Lick It Up tour, which was their first non-makeup tour. Animalize was released on September 17, 1984 and the tour began on September 30, 1984 in England. This was a time when the band members were constantly changing. New guitarist, Mark St. John, who just replaced Vinnie Vincent as the lead guitarist, was having health issues with hand and was replaced by Bruce Kulick. During the tour, Mark ended up playing on only three dates and was eventually replaced by Bruce Kulick permanently. The stage was basic for KISS with animal print. The costumes were similar to the Lick It Up costumes but with animal print and Gene's wig! The setlist featured 6 of the 9 songs from Animalize at one point on the tour. The albums, Creatures Of The Night, Lick It Up and Animalize were emphasized. This was a time when KISS ACTUALLY changed the setlist. At least 11 of the songs on the End Of The Road setlist were NOT played during this tour. As usual, the guys breakdown the costumes, stage, set list and overall tour. They then rank the costumes, stage, set list and overall tour against the previous 8 tours reviewed so far. So don't be like poor Mark St. John and sit in catering, instead tune in to another great tour episode! This week Tom & Zeus review the 1983 pivotal album, "Lick It Up" This was KISS' 11th studio album and the 23rd KISS studio album reviewed by SIOL. Lick It Up was the first studio album from KISS without the makeup. Before the release, the band was on MTV and unmasked with MTV VJ the late great J.J. Jackson and premiered the video for Lick It Up. This was the first (and last) credited album with Vinnie Vincent as a member. First not to have Ace Frehley credited as a member. First KISS album without any outside songwriters credited on an album. The album was produced by Michael James Jackson, who had just produced the previous album, Creatures Of The Night and the four original tracks on the compilation Killers. This was a critical point in KISStory. The band taking off the makeup was a big gamble. However, Paul kept thinking the audience was listening to KISS with their eyes and they needed to make this change. Now without the makeup, KISS was competing with their contemporaries on a even playing field. How did they do? Well, the album brought them back to not just gold status, but platinum. The addition of Vinnie Vincent was a difference maker. His guitar playing was great, but the energy he brought with his songwriting was just so evident. He co-wrote 8 of the 10 songs on the album, including the legendary title track, Lick It Up. The guys discuss the album cover, the videos and make a few bold statements about the album and the band with Vinnie Vincent. As usual the guys breakdown and analyze the tracks and rank the songs SIOL style. As always, they then compare the album and album cover and rank it against the previous studio albums reviewed. So tune in to find out if All Hell's Breakin' Loose after this album gets discussed and ranked and if the partnership of Frehley & Cusano have to file Chapter 11... Gene Simmones and Paul Stanley along with Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer have played what is supposed to be the final show as KISS at Madison Square Garden in New York City. But as dedicated fans surely know — they were never going to call it quits. Not really. During their encore, the band's current lineup — founders Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons as well as guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer — left the stage to reveal digital avatars of themselves. After the transformation, the virtual Kiss launched into a performance of “God Gave Rock and Roll to You.” FRUMESS is POWERED by www.riotstickers.com/frumess GET 1000 STICKERS FOR $79 RIGHT HERE - NO PROMO CODE NEED! Episode 544. Why is September such a popular month for releasing albums? We share our various memories of buying new KISS albums in September, including Lick It Up which is celebrating its 40th anniversary and the KISS Solo albums which are celebrating 45 years. Forget the haters, we won! Press requests please contact Michael Brandvold […]
We talk at look back at the first non makeup KISS album, rating each track. We also talk about the album cover, the tour, the videos and the other music that was popular in 1983!
In this episode, guest co-host Lee Conrad (The Scrappy Doo Principle, KISStory Science Theatre) and me explore KISS's Lick It Up album as it celebrates its' 40th anniversary.KISS was at a crucial point in their career, as their glory days were behind them and they chose to bid farewell to that era by taking off the make up that they were so identified with up to that point. It proved to be a success and once again, KISS was back on the charts and back on the road.We delve into this album track-by-track, and as always, had a lot of fun doing so!
In Episode #087 Chris and Gregg take a listen to KISS... without the makeup!! Lick It Up & Revenge were two very different albums from the makeup-less era of KISS. Listen along with the guys as they give there critique and opinions on these 2 classics. Their opinions may surprise you!
The guys are joined by Chris's buddy Nate to chat what they've been playing lately (Mega Man, Diablo, Zelda, and more!) plus chat their N64 top 100 honorable mentions. News this week includes Grimace's Birthday, game preservation sadness, Final Fantasy voice acting and Nintendo movie rumors. Recorded before the announcement of today's Nintendo Direct, the gang also give their (now outdated) predictions for a few things we may see (or saw!) at the showcase.
This week Tom & Zeus review the 1983-1984 "Lick It Up Tour" from KISS. This is SIOL's 6th KISS tour reviewed. This tour was a for the new album, "Lick It Up", which was the first KISS album without makeup. The album also was the one and only album where guitarist Vinnie Vincent is listed as an actual band member. The tour began in Europe and continued in United States and Canada. Despite the new look and a killer album, ticket sales were at the lowest point since KISS' inception, averaging slightly more than 5,000 a night. As usual, the guys breakdown the costumes, stage, set list and overall tour. They then rank the costumes, stage, set list and overall tour against the previous 5 tours reviewed so far. So tune in and make sure you all say hello and goodbye to Vinnie…twice! Grand opening, Grand closing! The Rock and Metal Profs: The History and Philosophy of Rock and Metal
The early 1980s was a time of tremendous change and transition for KISS. Just a few years prior, the "Hottest Band in the World" was selling out arenas and their albums shipped platinum. However, by 1981, Peter Criss was out of the band, with Ace Frehley soon to follow. The next few years brought line-up changes, a disastrous concept album (Music from the Elder), a return to rock album that sold poorly (Creatures of the Night), and the momentous decision by the band to finally reveal their true identities to the public. KISS re-imagined and re-branded with their 11th studio album "Lick it Up", and began their ascent to the top once more. Embracing the 80s hard rock bombast, guitar shredders, and all the glam and glitter of the decade, KISS showed they were still the Kings of the Mountain. Court, Matt and Tim discuss the often misunderstood and much maligned "Music from the Elder", the return to form with "Creatures of the NIght", and the brilliance of the first two non-makeup albums, "Lick it Up" and "Animalize."
This week, your beleaguered host (if anyone finds my voice, please send it back) considers the levels of delusion behind the merch pages of former Kiss guitarist Vinnie Vincent ($375 for an autographed copy of "Lick It Up") and divisive polymath Vincent Gallo ($50,000.00 for a date, "biological women only"). There are fanciful claims made by both (mostly Gallo), but there are probably no statements that set off of the bullshit detector quite like Vinnie Vincent alleging it will take 6-8 weeks for shipping, "due to scheduling and heavy demand". I'm only featuring the music of one of these individuals this week (and it's not the guy selling his sperm for $1,000,000)
Episode 114 of A-SIDES features another deep dive into the KISS discography, this time focusing on the era when the band removed their make-up. For our third episode on KISS, we highlighted our ten favorite songs released between 1983's Lick It Up and 1997's Carnival of Souls. Along with our favorite songs, we also discussed seeing KISS live in 2020, the new members that joined KISS in this era, correlations to Bon Jovi, Paul Stanley's wardrobe choices, and also Gene Simmons 'Demon' persona. Thank you to everyone who listens to our newest episode of A-SIDES.

Luca Guadagnino's new BONES AND ALL follows a pair of young people on a killing spree across America, which put us in mind of lovers-on-the-lam movies generally and Terrence Malick's debut feature BADLANDS specifically. But Guadagnino's film resists such easy classification, from its questionable status as a cannibal romance to its malleable central metaphor. So this week we gnaw on BONES AND ALL's blood-soaked nuance, before pairing it with BADLANDS to consider how the two films deploy their voiceover narration, charismatic killers, and rationalizations for violence. And in Your Next Picture Show, we offer up a buffet of other cannibalism stories from across pop culture that have stuck with us. Please share your comments, thoughts, and questions about BADLANDS, BONES AND ALL, or anything else in the world of film, by sending an email to comments@nextpictureshow.net, leaving a short voicemail at 773-234-9730, or commenting on our Patreon (patreon.com/NextPictureShow), where you can also find bonus episodes and more. “We've got a little surprise for you tonight…” We've been talking about doing this for so long now that many of you (ourselves included) had almost given up thinking it was ever going to happen, like it was just another instance of the usual psilly nonsense that manifests deep within the Bunkerpoon Studios whilst surfing relaxer fueled waves of madness. Well, the aforementioned “psilly nonsense” has finally manifested into a multi-dimensional, multi-tentacled reality! Now, just so we're perfectly clear and we're all on the same page here, we are absolutely NOT talking about “Knights in Satan's Service” or “Kids in Satan's Service” or ANYTHING having any affiliation with “Satan's Service” in any way, shape, or form!!! And we're definitely NOT talking about “Keeping it Super Simple” either. But actually, in all reality, we definitely kinda are… And we definitely kinda did… A lot. (“Yeah, yeah…”) It's time to strap in for “a hard day at the office” and put on your finest “cheetah skin boots” to go with your “gloves of shame” to ensure you're outfitted with the proper ensemble to do “The Paul Dance” before Mr. Unicorn gnaws through another mic cable again. This week Tom & Zeus review KISS: Story Of Their Songs which just debuted on the REELZ network. The REELZ station has series called, Story Of Their Songs, which explores songs of a band that help define them. For KISS, they examine three songs that helped KISS establish themselves as one of the greatest rock bands ever. For KISS, the series selects 3 KISS songs and then they have special guests breakdown the tracks in between videos, interviews with the band and a narrator who gives a general information about the band's history. This episode has many familiar faces such as Eddie Trunk, Dee Snider, Martin Popoff and more. However, it also includes Steve Vai, Joe Bonamassa, Ken Sharp, Marty Friedman, Anton Fig, Producer Michael James Jackson, Riki Rachtman, Engineer Jay Messina, Art Director Dennis Woloch and more. The boys discuss the one hour episode and debate the three songs chosen by REELZ as quintessential songs in KISS' career. They then rank the documentary against the previously reviewed KISS documentaries on SIOL. So tune and make sure you look out for Tom's real time reaction to newest product that will go in the SIOL Hall of Fame. The Kousins and Roadie Ray hold another Asylum Album Throwdown. Kousin Gary assigned the Kousins to take two non-makeup, ten-song albums, Lick It Up from 1983 and Asylum from 1985, and pit them against each other. The Kousins went track-by-track; #1 vs #1, #2 vs #2, etc. It was a fun exercise and The Kousins had their first tie, which will be decided by the Twitterverse. How would your showdown look track-by-track? Let us know by calling the TLDNetwork (KUZZ Army) hotline and leaving a message for the Kousins at 336-422-NUMB (6862). You can also see it on our YouTube channel. We have an Instagram @asylumpodcast and a Twitter @asylum_tales We would appreciate a like, rating, and review. The Kousins and Roadie Ray do their next "Album Draft." The rules, each Kousin ("Honorary" or real) gets to pick one song from each album from Lick It Up through Monster, so the non-makeup and reapplied makeup years. Once that song is picked, no one else can pick it. Whatever you pick, neutralizes that album for you. Then, once all ten songs were selected per Kousin, they put their albums in track order. That will be posted on Twitter. What would be your one song from each of these albums? Let us know by calling the TLDNetwork (KUZZ Army) hotline and leaving a message for the Kousins at 336-422-NUMB (6862). You can also see it on our YouTube channel. This week Tom & Zeus discuss the September 18, 1983 MTV KISS Unmasking, where KISS showed their face to the public for the first time without makeup live on MTV. After the disappointing album sales and tour for the previous album, Creatures Of The Night, KISS decided now was the "right time" to actually take off the makeup. Although founding members, Ace Frehley (The Spaceman) and Peter Criss (The Catman) were gone, the public was still fascinated to see who exactly was behind the KISS makeup. The new members, Vinnie Vincent (The Ankh Warrior) and Eric Carr (The Fox) along with founding members, Paul Stanley (The Starchild) and Gene Simmons (The Demon) were introduced and then interviewed live by now legendary MTV original VJ, J.J. Jackson. The band then premiered their new video for Lick It Up from their new album, Lick It Up.Tom & Zeus discuss the event and its impact on KISStory in typical SIOL style. They then compare it and rank it against the previous three other television KISS appearances that they have reviewed so far.For all things Shout It Out Loudcast check out our amazing website by clicking below: www.ShoutItOutLoudcast.com Interested in more Shout It Out Loudcast content? The Kousins talk about the KISS's eleventh studio album and first without makeup and the first "official" album without Ace Frehley, "Lick It Up." Vinnie Vincent was announced as the new guitarist and the band began recording the new album. After a miserable tour for the previous album, it was time to take off the makeup. This was a call to all hard rock fans that KISS was back and KISS was for real. The Kousins go track-by-track over the album. When you think of this album, are you thinking "Gimme More?" Or do you think "All Hell's Breaking Loose?" Call the TLDNetwork hotline and leave a message for the Kousins at 336-422-NUMB (6862). This podcast was recorded in The Less Desirables Studio South and recorded via Zoom, sponsored by Bull's Tavern in WSNC.
