Although some might consider Loewen the fittest mom after the 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Games, she doesn't feel she should hold the title of “Fittest Mom on Earth.”“Moms have a lot of pressure on themselves. The last thing I want a mom to see is if you're not competing at a CrossFit Games level, you're not doing enough. … We already have so much unrealistic expectations of ‘you have to fit back in your clothes, you have to lift what you lifted before.' All your kid wants is you and for you to love them. It takes time and patience.”After facing the challenges that come along with giving birth and becoming a mother, Loewen realized that regardless of fitness ability, every mom is a super mom. Whether they are doing CrossFit to get back in shape after birth, to be able to pick up their kid when they are a toddler, or to prove to themselves they can overcome challenges, parenthood is no small feat. “Everybody has a purpose. I'm lucky and thankful that my talent has brought me to the CrossFit Games. … Other girls, their journey might not look similar, but it's still just as important, just as amazing, just as great,” Loewen said. “Comparison is the thief of joy. So I'd hate for them to look at me and be like, ‘I'm only successful if I make it to the Games after having a kid.' No, your journey is different. And it is more than enough. It's awesome.”

The Barbell Mamas Podcast | Pregnancy, Postpartum, Pelvic Health
Preparing for the CrossFit games is a gruelling process. Athletes put in long hours, focus hard on optimizing every aspect of their recovery and prepare themselves for 10-15 tests of all aspects of fitness in Madison, Wisconsin. They say that being a professional athlete can be a selfish job. You need to focus so much on your training. When you're a mom, that isn't really possible. While some athletes are recovering with naps and sauna sessions, mama's have to go back to parenting. They can't just rest when they get home from training, that is when their next job begins. Arielle Loewen is an incredible mama athlete and role model to all the aspiring athletes out there. She is a soon-to-be 3x CrossFit Games athlete and a mama to her daughter Blakely (4 years old). Scott wanted to do a birthday show with one of his CrossFit Friends and the one he chose was Arielle Loewen, They are going to catch up on the offseason, Rogue, the New House, Christmas and Preview the amazing team going to Wodapalooza
We talk with Gabe about when he found CrossFit, what that meant to him, and inspired him to open his own gym on 2 different occasions as he learned what he wanted to be as a business owner, he took all that to build one of the best Coffee/Lifestyle brands out there, and the most important lesson he learned was to be who he is.
Kari Pearce, Arielle Loewen and Alex Gazan are teaming up to compete at TYR Wodapalooza in January and they join Wex to talk about their expectations for the coming year as well as what they would like to see for events. In this episode we have a guest appearance by Stella and we discuss how this team came into being. We have a lot of fun talking about their unique journeys and what makes them the competitors they are. They are three of the most competitive athletes you will see on the competition floor but off the floor they are the absolute most humble and nicest women you will ever meet. Hence we came up with the name on the show to represent them at WZA. Be on the lookout for new Wex Appeal Podcast merch coming soon from our good friends at SherpaWerks. Follow them on IG @sherpawerks to know exactly when the new shirts are going to drop. Also mentioned on the show are Brushed By Chan (IG @brushedbychan1) and PhatAsh Bakes (IG @phatashbakes) talking about amazing shoe collars and epic cookies. Both are small businesses that I think you should check out. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Pregnancy and motherhood severely affect a woman's ability to maintain a profession while raising a family. Symptoms like gaining weight, illness, feeling exhausted, anxious, and depressed should even make it worse for women who participate in high-intensity activities like CrossFit. Pregnancy and motherhood have been identified by some research as the primary reasons why female athletes abandon their athletic careers or fail to realize their full athletic potential. In addition, the time necessary for competition and preparation may leave little room for motherhood. Our guest today, Arielle Loewen, is an outlier. She is a two-time CrossFit Games athlete who qualified and competed at the games in 2021 and again in 2022. She is also a full-time wifey and mommy of a three-year-old daughter. In this episode, Arielle opens up about her unplanned pregnancy and how it made her feel guilty and ashamed. She discusses her experience with pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period and how she felt it would impact her future in CrossFit. While she was expecting, she had an encounter with a person who changed the trajectory of her life. She is now living a bit of a dream: full-time wife, mom, and athlete at the same time. Highlights: (05:50) The impact of Arielle's marriage and relationship on her profession. (06:51) How to live the athlete's dream while being a full-time wife and mother (08:40) How Arielle navigated unexpected pregnancy as an athlete and its impact on her body and mental health (10:08) The turning point in Arielle's life and how she overcame the shame and guilt of unplanned pregnancy (14:42) How to deal with the postpartum experience and get back in shape (15:23) The value of good nutrition during postpartum (16:50) Good diet and what constitutes good nutrition during postpartum (25:41) How Arielle handles being a social media influencer, working with brands, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
