David Craig is the author of the Bluebook: How Bold Leadership Unlocked a $27 Billion Success Story, and the former CEO of Refinitiv. David believes organizations rarely fail because of strategy or market conditions. They fail when complexity quietly replaces clarity, making it harder for people to make decisions, serve customers, and move the business forward. In this conversation, David shares the three warning signs he looks for when walking into a struggling company: unclear purpose, meeting overload, and a poor customer experience. David also discusses why creating belief and ownership matters more than having all the answers during transformation. If your organization feels slower, more complicated, or harder to lead than it should, this conversation offers practical lessons for simplifying complexity and leading change with greater clarity. Every successful person has a story of overcoming adversity—but what if the very thing that held you back is actually the key to your greatest success? In this solo episode, Travis reflects on lessons from past guests who transformed life's biggest obstacles into the foundation of thriving careers and businesses. Drawing on conversations with impressionist John Di Domenico, NBA Hall of Famer Artis Gilmore, entrepreneur Garrett White, and others, Travis explores why struggle often becomes the catalyst for extraordinary growth. He also shares practical ways to reframe challenges, stay motivated, and use setbacks as fuel for long-term success. On this episode we talk about: How John Di Domenico turned a childhood speech impediment into a career as one of the world's top celebrity impressionists. Why Artis Gilmore's difficult upbringing made basketball the vehicle that changed his family's future. Garrett White's philosophy of running away from poverty instead of chasing prosperity—and how pain can be a stronger motivator than pleasure. Why many wealthy entrepreneurs intentionally keep themselves feeling "broke" by investing their money instead of letting it sit in a bank account. The science of post-traumatic growth and how reframing adversity can lead to greater resilience, fulfillment, and long-term success. Top 3 Takeaways Your biggest obstacle may become your greatest competitive advantage if you're willing to develop skills through the struggle instead of avoiding it. Staying hungry often requires intentionally delaying lifestyle upgrades and investing your success so you remain motivated to keep growing. You can't control the hardships life gives you, but you can control the meaning you assign to them—and that meaning shapes your future. Notable Quotes "The obstacle becomes the way. The struggle becomes the story." "I wasn't pursuing prosperity—I was running away from poverty." "It happened. Now what are you going to do with it?" John Di Domenico is one of the world's most recognized celebrity impersonators, best known for his legendary Donald Trump impression. A veteran comedian, actor, and voice artist, John has appeared on major platforms including Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Howard Stern Show, and The Tonight Show. He was also one of the highest-earning creators on Cameo, building a thriving business around a single character. In this episode, Travis breaks down the biggest lessons he learned from John's journey—from overcoming a childhood speech impediment to creating a scalable career through skill stacking, relentless practice, and creative expansion. On this episode we talk about: How childhood challenges can become career-defining strengths The power of skill stacking and developing a unique competitive advantage Why top performers constantly return to the fundamentals Turning one successful skill into multiple income streams Why there has never been a better time to create opportunities for yourself Top 3 Takeaways Your biggest obstacles may become your greatest assets. John's years of speech therapy ultimately gave him the technical understanding of voices that made him a world-class impersonator. Long-term skill stacking creates opportunities that look like luck to outsiders. Decades of comedy, acting, improv, and voice work positioned John perfectly when demand for Trump impersonations exploded. Success comes from maximizing what you've built. Rather than relying on a single income source, John expanded one core skill into corporate events, live performances, Cameo videos, and customized experiences. Notable Quotes "Your obstacles can become your instruments." "Stacking skills over a long time creates an unfair advantage." "There's no excuse in this era not to succeed." Connect with John D. We mark National Mental Health Awareness Month on this episode by tapping the expertise of Dr. Steve Strakowski, an internationally recognized expert in bipolar disorder, who has spent decades studying the neurobiology and treatment of mood conditions while pushing just as hard on the structural barriers that keep effective treatments out of reach for more than half the people who need them. In this conversation with Raise the Line from Elsevier host Michael Carrese, Dr. Strakowski explains why access, not science, is now the biggest obstacle to improving mental health outcomes. He also addresses the heavy toll society pays for underfunding mental health prevention and treatment programs. “The money is spent eventually, but in the most expensive places like emergency rooms and prisons, and there is the human cost of suffering and suicides." This important discussion also covers: The persistent problem of Black patients presenting with mania being misdiagnosed with schizophrenia;  Why he describes bipolar disorder as a reward-processing illness;  The emerging therapies he finds encouraging. In this episode of Cross Talk, hosts Charles and Daniel continue their discussion on thinking, focusing on obstacles to sound, biblical reasoning. They identify four key barriers: the fallen human will, rooted in original sin and affecting both believers and unbelievers; the corrupting influence of the fallen world; futile human wisdom that replaces God's truth with folly; and undisciplined thinking. Drawing from Romans 1, Romans 7, and 2 Timothy 1:7, they emphasize that overcoming these obstacles requires disciplined, self-controlled thinking grounded in a proper understanding of God, as true wisdom begins with fearing the Lord.

Nonprofit Power Podcast

We all deal with the same essential obstacle to our greatest results. And the aggravating thing about it is it's an obstacle we tend not to be aware of. Here's the thing. The expectations you set really matter. They will basically determine your outcomes. Think about it. When have you ever gotten great results by setting low expectations? Of course, most Nonprofit leaders don't go around deliberately setting low expectations. But they can happen in the background without us realizing it. The reality is we're setting expectations all the time. The problem is we're mostly unaware of that happening.  We often set expectations based on our past experiences rather than our desired future. You can see how that might get us in a bunch of trouble. Even more problematic, we're often operating from those expectations as if they were fact or truth. And because we view them as fact or truth, we seldom bother to examine them and to ask the questions: Are they really true? And are they serving us? The unfortunate reality is that when we set expectations based on past experience, we often take actions that move us further away from our desired result.  If we want our expectations to align with our desired results, we need to interrupt what's running on autopilot, and develop a powerful practice of setting expectations that serve us.  In this episode, we share: The one critical element at the center of setting expectations that will serve youFour clear actions to take to ensure your expectations align with your desired resultsWhy your subconscious will try to lower your expectations, and how to outsmart itHow to reset your expectations to take you directly to the results you wantHow to deal with well-meaning people who want you to lower your expectationsTwo powerful questions to help you stay on track to achieving your biggest ambitions   Help spread the word! If you found value in this episode, I'd be grateful if you would leave a review on iTunes or wherever you listen. Your reviews help other nonprofit leaders find the podcast.  Thanks!!

Sal and BT agreed that the Yankees only narrowly escaped a loss, which they attribute to Red Sox mistakes and Aaron Boone's persistent lack of "feel" for the game. While Boone's decision to stick with Rodón was debated, the core criticism was his baffling lineup choices, particularly sitting Ben Rice in a must-win situation. Sal emphatically argued that Rice is the team's second-best offensive player and must play regardless of the opposing pitcher, accusing Boone of overthinking matchups and analytics instead of simply playing his best available players in an elimination game.

Karoline Leavitt said President Trump expects the big, beautiful bill on his desk by the 4th of July. We are here to give you expert insight into how deliberations will go in the Senate and the House. Mick Mulvaney is the former White House Chief of Staff and former Director of OMB in President Trump's first administration. Mick takes us inside the Senate to discuss what modifications the Senate will make and who will vote no based on the current bill. Senate Majority Leader John Thune is putting forth his best effort to get the bill through the Senate. Once passed, it will head to the House, where Speaker Mike Johnson will most likely put the bill up for a vote. If the House votes immediately and it passes it will be on the president's desk by July 4th. Dr. Alberto Martinez is a Professor of History at the University of Texas. While Dr. Martinez has not always been a fan of President Trump, he is a fan of the truth. As Dr. Martinez was preparing his history lessons, he would frequently watch the news. Are your kids prepared to withstand the tidal waves of our culture—or will they get swept away? The cultural currents our kids are facing aren’t just subtle—they’re hitting like tidal waves, challenging the very foundations of our parenting. If you’ve ever wondered what exactly our kids are up against and how in the world we, as parents, can help them stand strong, this “Best Of” episode of CP/CW is for you. Catherine welcomes back Dr. Jonathan Morrow, a true heavyweight in the world of apologetics and worldview training. With over 18 years equipping students and parents, Dr. Morrow is uniquely qualified to map out the storms facing our kids—and how you can help them stand strong. To unpack these seismic shifts, Jonathan digs deep into the five biggest challenges facing this generation. He doesn’t just identify headlines or surface trends—he gets to the heart of what’s shaping our kids every single day. In this episode, Dr. Morrow casts an unflinching light on what he calls the “cultural waves” crashing down on Gen Z and Gen Alpha: Digital Saturation & Distraction: Our kids are drowning in digital noise—a reality that shapes their minds and depletes their ability to reflect deeply on truth. “If Christianity never calls us to look different than the culture in which we’re in, we might want to reevaluate.” ~ Jonathan Morrow Scientism: Society treats the hard sciences as the only trustworthy source of truth, quietly nudging faith and morality out of the conversation. “If science is the only way you know something, guess what you can’t have knowledge of? Morality, spirituality, and history.” ~ Jonathan Morrow Relativism: “You do you.” In a world where truth is seen as subjective, our kids are tempted to believe there is no objective reality—just personal preference. Tribalism: Forget persuasion; today’s climate is about power and alliances. The result? A deeper us-vs-them mentality that threatens the unity Christ calls us to embody. The New Sexual Revolution: Cultural norms around sexuality and gender have been radically redefined—impacting even how our children understand themselves and others. Progressive Christianity: When secular ideologies get relabeled as Christian, children and teens may be drawn in by messages of acceptance and activism while losing sight of the Gospel’s transformative core. This episode isn’t just an exposé of what’s broken in our world—it’s packed with encouragement, powerful insights, and actionable wisdom that will help you and your kids become steadfast in faith. Don’t let culture catch your family off guard. Will you be a passive observer—or will you become the anchor your family needs? About the Guest:Jonathan Morrow holds master’s degrees in divinity and philosophy of religion and ethics, a doctorate in worldview and culture, and serves as Director of Cultural Engagement at Impact 360 Institute. He’s the author of Welcome to College, Questioning the Bible: 11 Major Challenges to the Bible's Authority, and Is God Just a Human Invention, and has trained thousands of young believers to build a lasting, reasonable, and robust faith. Daily Boost Show Notes - Episode 5049 When Overthinking Becomes Your Biggest Obstacle Host: Scott Smith Episode Description In this energetic episode, Scott Smith shares a powerful lesson he learned during his days as a radio host that has become one of his most quoted pieces of advice. With his trademark blend of humor and straight talk, Scott tackles the common tendency to get stuck in preparation mode – what he calls "fixing to get ready." Drawing from a memorable call he received while hosting a Saturday night radio show, Scott reveals how many of us waste valuable time overthinking, researching, and planning when we should be taking action. He challenges listeners to recognize their stalling and offers practical wisdom on breaking free from this pattern. Whether you're building a business, pursuing a passion, or simply trying to progress toward a goal, this episode provides the motivation to stop preparing and start moving forward – even when the path ahead isn't perfectly clear. Featured Story During his days hosting a popular radio show called "70s Saturday Night," Scott received a call from a woman who said she was "fixing to get ready" to go out. When asked what that meant, she explained she was thinking about what to wear, whether it needed ironing, if her date would like it – essentially wasting time because she had time to waste. This chance conversation became a powerful metaphor for Scott, as it showed how people spend too much time thinking, pondering, and worrying instead of taking action toward their goals. Key Takeaways "Fixing to get ready" is the state of perpetual preparation that prevents real progress Clarity is what separates those who achieve their goals from those who don't Not knowing what to do next is the #1 thing that stops people from getting what they want Having a clear roadmap or framework eliminates the tendency to stall in preparation mode There's a time and place for "fixing to get ready" moments, but living there permanently leads to stagnation If you don't know your purpose, your purpose is to find your purpose You can't get to where you want to go from where you are with the same mindset The moment you start moving forward, you begin transforming into a different person Don't buy into the myth that success comes easily or without hard work Everything you want is somewhere down the road, not where you are today Memorable Quotes "Don't buy into the myth that life is easy. If you want anything, you must lay the groundwork and work hard." "If you don't know your purpose, your purpose is to find your purpose." "The sooner you start moving, the sooner you get what you want." Scott's Three-Step Approach Recognize When You're Stalling: Be honest with yourself when you're in "fixing to get ready" mode instead of taking action Figure Out the Next Step: Even if you're not completely clear on the entire path, identify just the following action you need to take Move Forward Anyway: Take action even without perfect clarity, knowing that movement creates momentum and clarity will develop along the way Connect With Scott Search for The Daily Boost on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
