The last time you were walking down the street and a dirty drunk homeless person thrust their empty change cup at you, do you remember your immediate response? If you're honest I'm sure you shrunk back like the rest of us have. Pastor Ricky is challenging us to consider that sin is sin, is sin. If God has made a place for us at His table by His grace, then shouldn't we be ready and willing to do the same for others?
Stop and think about this scene. You're at the gym and the professional bodybuilders are there lifting hundreds, upon hundreds of pounds in their workout. You've brought your 4-year-old with you to keep you company while you get a quick run in on the treadmill. He works his way over to the bodybuilders and climbs underneath the weight to try and lift it. While we think this is cute, it truly parallels what our response should be when we experience God's grace. Our hearts should long to do more than we're able because of God's love for us.
Have you ever thought of your works as currency or money? That scenario is pretty funny but it's so true. We do attempt to gain God's favor by doing this or that, so many times. Pastor Ricky reminds us again that God's grace is not something that we can earn, it's something that has been lavished upon us because God loves us beyond our understanding. The key is to receive God's grace and walk in the power that it provides.

In this episode, I read "You bring out the Mexican in me" by Sandra Cisneros. It is one of my favourite poems, originally written in 1994 and from her anthology Loose Woman. I have tried to include as many translations as possible in the recitation since it has some phrases and words in Spanish and some specific Mexican references. Trust me the beauty of the poem is in its rhythmic passion so do give it a listen. And if you find yourself unable to relate to it, head over to my adaptation of this poem that I have included in a subsequent bonus episode :) Listen in! The poem I read can be accessed here - https://www.reddit.com/r/Poetry/comments/epg9ke/poem_you_bring_out_the_mexican_in_me_by_sandra/ The host, Ravneet Bawa as - @one_third_above on Instagram @maikeya on Twitter Email: ravneet_bawa@icloud.com Disclaimer: This podcast is created for sharing with friends and family, and only as a passion project amidst the Covid lockdown with no commercial interest. In all episodes I read from sources on the public internet or copies of books I possess. The commentary is all my own.
As promised in Ep-48, this is my adaptation of the Sandra Cisneros poem "You bring out the Mexican In Me" from her anthology "Loose Woman". I hope you enjoy this version too, as well as the masterful original I the previous episode.

The relationship between mothers and daughters is classically one of love and hate. It 's also a tug-of-war of individuality, identity and dependency. Both parties are guilty of the pushed upon sculpting of the other. A daughter trying to make her mother understand what age is blind to, a mother trying to make her daughter see what youth keeps her in ignorance of. And for many, by the time both sides can finally "see", time has passed and opportunity lost. Enjoy this quick invitation of the author to experience the complex, rich and rewarding quagmire that was the relationship with her mother.
"I didn't want you to grow up to be a loose woman," my mother said not long before she died. “But I see I have failed miserably.” This is how Kay Bolden's mother story begins. Kay Bolden is a writer, speaker and Assistant Editor at PS I Love You, the largest publication on Medium.com focusing on essays, fiction and poetry. Always dreaming of faraway places, Kay finally picked up her backpack at age 55 and hiked out to see the world. Since then, she has solo trekked through Europe, South America and the United States. Her children share her wanderlust, and ran off as soon as it was legal--absolute proof, she says, of effective parenting. She shares her adventures in her new book, The Young and the Rest of Us, available February 13 on Amazon. Kay lives in San Diego with her dog Fergus, where she is writing her second novel and searching for the perfect microbrew.
