Marc Broussard, singer/songwriter/guitarist grew up around music as his dad is an acclaimed musician, too.  They're both in the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.  Marc's career launched on the national scene with his 2004 album Carencro, featuring his Bayou Soul style music mixing the great sounds of funk, blues, R&B, rock and pop.  He's performed for many of the late night TV shows during his career and one of his songs was tapped as the theme song for the 2008 NBA All-Star Game.  Multi-award winning program director Ray White caught up with Marc in October of 2024 to talk about his storied life and career, his Save our Soul (SOS) charity recordings, work with Joe Bonamassa and his new album Time Is A Thief.  In our showcase segment, your "Hostess with the Mostest" Lisa Davis, features the 2023 "B.B. King Entertainer of the Year" award recipient Tommy Castro, whose brand new album is Closer To The Bone.  Covering the gamut of soul, R&B, blues and contemporary jazz...that's right, we're the Coool CAT!

The effervescent lead singer and drummer for Cowboy Mouth, Fred LeBlanc, is interviewed by Lanea Stagg of The Recipe Records Series of rock'n'roll cookbooks and Jude Southerland Kessler of biographical narrative series, The John Lennon Series. In addition to video of two of the band's top charted songs, "I Believe" and "Jenny Says," Fred shares his musical tribute to John Lennon, a touching emotional memory he wrote called "12-8." He talks candidly about the impact of John Lennon and The Beatles on his life and how the loss of John made him realize that we're promised no tomorrows...urging him to move forward with his band. That decision propelled his group into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and on to national success. Fred also discusses his love of New Orleans and Mardi Gras with the big hit, "Mardi Gras State of Mind." One of the most inspiring episodes of SSSS ever! Enjoy!

This guest definitely spells his name correctly. Welcome singer Marc Broussard to the podcast family; and man does he have soul! His voice reminds you of the greats like Otis Redding, Al Green, and Sam Cooke. Marc talks about the movie that started his career, at the ripe old age of five and a half; the influence of his dad, Louisiana Music Hall of Fame inductee Ted Broussard, and he tells me about how he got his first record deal and why he asked to be released from it. That started the story of how Marc went independent and began his series of SOS albums, recorded for various charities. Marc even wrote a children's book as a companion piece for one of those albums.  Marc has released his latest SOS album with a focus on the blues. To that end, he recruited his good friend and blues guitar legend Joe Bonamassa, to help out. This album pushed Marc out of his comfort zone. But in doing so, he has received some of the highest praise of his career, particularly from his peers. Marc has learned a lot throughout his career and he shares a lot of it here, particularly about the writing process he goes through. He's on tour constantly, as we learn. So check him out on Instagram @marcbroussard. Pick up SOS 4, Blues For Your Soul at ktbarecords.com or wherever you get music. Follow us @PerformanceAnx on social media. This is the unlikely musical tale of a 1950's Italian kid from New York City not named Dion DiMucci. We're talking about John Henry Ramistella. This artist has been inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame but the big door prize still eludes him. It's possibly the contention that a career delivering mostly vivid, colorful cover versions of brilliant material makes him a melodic figure of less import.I vigorously disagree. He was a different kind of pioneer and If anyone belongs in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it's Johnny Rivers. The omission is glaring.- Rich Buckland"The Whisky was a smash from opening night," Rivers says. I brought my following from Gazzari's." Rivers and his famous red Gibson ES-335 guitar symbolized the Strip's new youth-oriented atmosphere. They weren't at the Whisky long when he and Adler thought of cutting a live album. Another L.A. club owner loaned Rivers and Adler money to hire Wally Heider's remote recording unit. "We recorded this album two nights in a row and took it to every record company in town. None of them wanted it," Johnny recalls.Liberty Records executive Bob Skaff liked the tape and convinced reluctant Liberty President Al Bennett to release it on Imperial Records. Bennett had purchased Imperial from founder Lew Chudd, and ran it as a small, semi-independent label. To release Rivers' recordings, he and Adler formed Dunhill Productions with Bobby Roberts (an ex-member of The Dunhills, a tap dancing group that inspired the name) and Pierre Cossette (now producer of the Grammy Awards show). This eventually evolved into Dunhill Records, home to L.A rock legends The Mamas & The Papas, The Grass Roots and Steppenwolf.Adler and company were disappointed that the album would appear on what they considered a secondary label. But not Johnny. "When they said 'Imperial Records.' I just jumped up and went 'YEAH! YEAH!' Because I grew up with nothing but Imperial Records, Bobby Mitchell, Fats Domino, and Ricky Nelson, and I thought 'What a cool label!'" Both Rivers and Adler came to see Imperial's smallness as a plus. "it gave Lou and me the autonomy to pick our own singles and work closely with the promotion men and marketing people," Rivers says. "I think that had a lot to do with why we had so much success, because we had a real good handle on it.".-Johnny Rivers

Frogman appears at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival every year where he always makes new fans and friends.  Frogman Henry joins The Paul Leslie Hour to talk about his life in music, what makes New Orleans unique, his time touring with the Beatles, and his friendship with Jimmy Buffett. 424. We interview Clint Bruce, author of Afro-Creole Poetry in French from Louisiana's Radical Civil War–Era Newspapers:A Bilingual Edition. Collected here for the first time, seventy-nine poems published in the Civil War-era Afro-Creole New Orleans newspapers L'Union and La Tribune--most unavailable anywhere but in archives--bring to life a close-knit, politically progressive French-speaking community of artists and intellectuals whose cultural and legal legacies were monumental. The original French poems appear here alongside Clint Bruce's sensitive English translations, mindful of meaning, meter, and sound. A comprehensive introduction, biographies of the poets, and extensive annotations immerse readers in Civil War-era Louisiana. In his research for the volume, Bruce unearthed crucial issues of La Tribune long thought lost and discovered the extent of a poetic hoax undetected for nearly 150 years.
