Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!Date: May 28, 2025Name of podcast: Backstage Pass RadioS8: E6: Graham Bonnet & Beth-Ami Heavenstone - The Legend and the Forever FriendSHOW SUMMARY:Rock legend Graham Bonnet and bassist/manager Beth-Ami Heavenstone invite listeners into their world for an intimate conversation about music, recovery, and what's next for the Graham Bonnet Band. Fresh from battling COVID-19, the pair reflects on the unique challenges vocalists face—a sentiment Bonnet captures perfectly when he states, "The voice is the hardest instrument to play... the guitar is easy compared to this." The conversation weaves through exciting announcements about their upcoming live DVD recorded at the historic Whiskey a Go Go, a venue deeply meaningful to both artists as their first performance space together. Fans will be thrilled to learn about the band's fourth studio album in progress, featuring a special collaboration with Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson. Bonnet shares his creative process, including a touching tribute song to the underappreciated guitar virtuoso Rory Gallagher, revealing the thoughtful songwriter behind the powerful voice. Some of the most compelling moments emerge when Bonnet opens up about his remarkable past—from his early connection to the Bee Gees (his cousin Trevor Gordon was originally part of the group in Australia) to his heartfelt remembrance of drummer Cozy Powell, whose 1998 passing still visibly moves him. The emotional gravity in Bonnet's voice as he recalls seeing two rainbows touch the hillside after learning of Powell's death demonstrates that behind the legendary rock persona is a deeply feeling human being who treasures these connections. Between European tour preparations, managing multiple projects, and their life together raising chickens in LA, Bonnet and Heavenstone offer a refreshingly authentic glimpse into their world. Their playful banter and surprising personal revelations—Graham's unexpected love for figure skating and Antiques Roadshow, Beth-Ami's bird watching hobby—create a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes listeners feel like they're sitting in their living room. Whether you've followed Graham's career for decades or are discovering his extraordinary voice for the first time, this conversation captures the spirit of a rock legend who remains humble, creative, and utterly passionate about music.Sponsor Link:WWW.ECOTRIC.COMWWW.SIGNAD.COMWWW.RUNWAYAUDIO.COMBackstage Pass Radio Social Media Handles:Facebook - @backstagepassradiopodcast @randyhulseymusicInstagram - @Backstagepassradio @randyhulseymusicTwitter - @backstagepassPC @rhulseymusicWebsite - backstagepassradio.com and randyhulsey.comArtist(s) Web PageCall to actionWe ask our listeners to like, share, and subscribe to the show and the artist's social media pages. In this candid, high-energy conversation, the former Femme Fatale and Vixen vocalist pulls back the curtain on her remarkable musical journey that began with Linda Ronstadt covers in local bands and led to the glitz and mayhem of the Sunset Strip during hair metal's heyday. With disarming honesty, Lorraine recounts how she assembled Femme Fatale through sheer force of will, sharing both the exhilaration of being signed to MCA Records and the frustrations of never quite reaching the platinum-selling status she envisioned. Her reflections on why some bands exploded while others stalled reveal the complex interplay of talent, timing, and industry support that defined the era. The conversation takes unexpected turns as Lorraine discusses her recent collaboration with Foreigner's Lou Graham (a dream thirty years in the making), her successful career as a television casting director, and her latest venture into OnlyFans, which she approaches with the same unapologetic authenticity that's defined her entire career. At 66, she dismisses conventional limitations, declaring, "The older I get, the more fearless I am." What emerges is the portrait of an artist who has weathered industry upheavals without losing her passion or perspective. Lorraine's infectious laugh punctuates stories of rock star encounters and personal reinventions, offering wisdom on survival and self-reinvention in an industry notorious for chewing people up. Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!Date: April 2, 2025Name of podcast: Backstage Pass RadioS8: E4: Julia Lage (Bass Player - Vixen / Smith/Kotzen) A Magnificent Musical MigrationSHOW SUMMARY:Julia Lage's musical journey crosses oceans, genres, and expectations. The current touring bassist for iconic all-female rock band Vixen opens up about her unexpected path from classical beginnings to rock stardom. Growing up in São Paulo, Brazil, Julia's first musical love wasn't the bass but the flute. Attending an arts-focused Waldorf school, she developed her ear playing classical instruments but failed an orchestra audition because she couldn't sight-read. This disappointment became a turning point when her mother introduced her to rock music – Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Aerosmith – opening a world of possibility that would shape her future. By 17, Julia was touring Brazil with a successful band for 13 years, playing to massive crowds (once performing for 2.5 million people!) and appearing on major TV shows. But despite commercial success, she felt creatively unfulfilled. Her life transformed when she met guitarist Richie Kotzen (now her husband), leading to her relocation to Los Angeles and fresh musical opportunities. Through connections and remarkable talent, she joined Vixen in 2021, collaborates with Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden) and Richie in their Smith/Kotzen project, and creates compelling solo material in her home studio. What shines through our conversation is Julia's authenticity and genuine passion. While discussing her various projects – including upcoming Vixen music, Smith/Kotzen's new album featuring her bass on five tracks, and her solo singles – she reveals the challenges of balancing creative work with the business side of music. Her advice to aspiring musicians comes from hard-earned wisdom: know what you want to accomplish, focus on that path, and pursue it with genuine passion. Follow Julia's musical adventures on all platforms under Julia Lage (L-A-G-E) and discover why this classically-trained flautist-turned-rock-bassist continues to captivate audiences worldwide.Sponsor Link:WWW.ECOTRIC.COMWWW.SIGNAD.COMWWW.RUNWAYAUDIO.COMBackstage Pass Radio Social Media Handles:Facebook - @backstagepassradiopodcast @randyhulseymusicInstagram - @Backstagepassradio @randyhulseymusicTwitter - @backstagepassPC @rhulseymusicWebsite - backstagepassradio.com and randyhulsey.comArtist(s) Web Pagewww.julialage.comCall to actionWe ask our listeners to like, share, and subscribe to the show and the artist's social media pages. Date: August 23, 2023Name of podcast: Backstage Pass RadioEpisode title and number: S5: E4 - Paul Noyola - East Texas Pickin and PatrolingBIO:Around 13 years old, I taught myself to play guitar - singing my favorite tunes comforted me during a tumultuous time in my life. Within a year, I began writing songs and performing at events around East Texas. In 1995, I was 15 and was hired by a local country club to perform for 4 hours every Friday night for several years. I also formed & fronted The Tailor Made Band beginning in 1995, touring regionally, playing old country, western swing tunes, and several songs that I had written. During those early teenage years, I headlined local festivals & performed at events with Leann Rimes, Mark Chesnutt, Wayne Toups, and Johnny Gimble, and was mentored in songwriting by Grammy Award winner Don Rollins. When I turned 20, I felt the need to get into a career and became a police officer, which I devoted all my attention to for about 5 years until I had the urge to perform music again. The freedom and power of rock music were a big influence on me from an early age - with some of my favorites being the Beatles, Led Zepplin, and 90's grunge. I had always wanted to do a rock project, so in 2005 I fronted a 4 piece rock band called Demagogue and for the next two years, we wrote and performed our music around Texas and Louisiana, releasing the EP Passage To Repute and album Fight The Fate. The bassist for the band was Matt Sebastian, who is currently performing around the Houston area. The drummer for Demagogue is now a well-known session drummer and studio owner in the Nashville area, Grady Saxman with Saxman Studios.A few years later, I fronted another rock project called Noyola and during its 3-year run, we released the album Sow Tomorrow and regionally toured the Texas and Louisiana area. After the band Noyola dissolved around 2012, I got busy with life - working on my businesses, traveling, and getting married. In 2022, I got back to recording and writing, with the release of a new single called Holding On To Hope in March 2023 and Claim To Be in June 2023. The music I create now has mellowed and matured a bit - all of the genres that I love and have performed over the years have melded together to style the new songs I'm writing and performing - but I do still love performing some of the rock songs I wrote years ago.Sponsor Link:WWW.ECOTRIC.COMWWW.SIGNAD.COMWWW.RUNWAYAUDIO.COMBackstage Pass Radio Social Media Handles:Facebook - @backstagepassradiopodcast @randyhulseymusicInstagram - @Backstagepassradio @randyhulseymusicTwitter - @backstagepassPC @rhulseymusicWebsite - backstagepassradio.com and randyhulsey.comArtist(s) Social Media:http://www.paulnoyola.comCall to actionWe ask our listeners to like, share, and subscribe to the show and the artist's social media pages. The band is known for its offbeat sense of humor (all band members adopted the surname "Dwarf") and was nominated for two Juno Awards during its career. Killer Dwarfs were sometimes compared to NWOBHM acts such as Iron Maiden and SaxonBefore The Killer Dwarfs formed, the band consisted of Darrell Millar, Bryce Trewin, and Ange Fodero in a group called Sphinx. After Sphinx, Russ Graham entered the picture and they became The Killer Dwarfs. The original line-up consisted of Russ Graham (vocals) and Darrell Millar (drums), along with Bryce Trewin (guitar) and Ange Fodero (bass). Their self-titled 1983 debut album was nominated for a Juno Award and radio stations in the US, particularly in Texas, started to play the album.Trewin and Fodero left the band shortly afterward and were replaced by guitarist Mike Hall and bassist Ron Mayer. This line-up released the band's breakthrough 1986 album Stand Tall, followed by Big Deal in 1988 and Dirty Weapons in 1990. The band received much recognition in Canada and the United States during the 80's, and its videos were in regular rotation at MuchMusic and on the MTV program Headbangers Ball. Gerry Finn replaced Hall in 1992, and the album Method to the Madness was released later that year. The band toured for several years but then parted ways. During the mid-to-late 1990s, the band members pursued other projects. Graham formed a band called PennyBlack, and Hall and Finn both became members of the Canadian metal band Helix. Millar went on to drum for the southern rock band Laidlaw before forming his own Bon Scott era AC/DC tribute band Autobon, which went on to become Automan.ca, which provided Millar with a vehicle for recording original material. On January 5, 2018, it was announced that Killer Dwarfs had signed to Megadeth bassist David Ellefson's EMP Label Group, which would release a Killer Dwarfs' live album called NO GUFF. EMP also announced that it would reissue the band's independently released START@ONE and vocalist Graham's solo debut Wireless, plus new 2019 studio albums from Killer Dwarfs and Russ Dwarf.Sponsor Link:WWW.ECOTRIC.COMBackstage Pass Radio Social Media Handles:Facebook - @backstagepassradiopodcast @randyhulseymusicInstagram - @Backstagepassradio @randyhulseymusicTwitter - @backstagepassPC @rhulseymusicWebsite - backstagepassradio.com and randyhulsey.comArtist Media Handles:Website - www.killerdwarfsband.comCall to actionWe ask our listeners to like, share, and subscribe to the show and the artist's social media pages. Born in Buffalo NY, his father wore two hats as pianist and conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. He would seat Dave in the orchestra pit during performances as early as seven years old. Dave's brother Robert would soon become a multiple Grammy-nominated classical percussionist, and his sister an accomplished rock/soul singer. Shortly after his father's passing when Dave was 10, he suddenly took an interest in the piano that was sitting idly in the living room. Osmosis? Within six months Dave had mastered the C Sonata by Mozart, and began an obsession with XTC, Herbie Hancock, Yes, Todd Rundgren and of course, DEVO. Pretty diverse for an 11 year old. He clearly made the right choice. By the age of 17, he was one of the top keyboardists in his hometown, winning multiple awards consistently for seven years. Finally the big break came, when Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls called and left a simple message from sunny LA: “you wanna come out and tour with us for a year?” In a matter of one day Dave went from playing in front of 300 in a local Buffalo bar to playing Woodstock in front of 65000. This led to a two-and-a-half year relationship with the Goo Goo Dolls that took Dave around the world twice as touring keyboardist/vocalist for the “Dizzy Up The Girl” tour, the landmark album that spawned five top ten singles between 98 and 2000.
