In this packed Y's Guys episode, hosts Dave McCann and Brian Logan break down BYU's incredible basketball season, recap the thrilling Alumni Football Game, and welcome two standout guests—Austin Collie and Keoni Thiim. The show opens with a reflection on BYU's Sweet 16 finish in Kevin Young's debut season, highlighted by a 26-10 record, a third-place Big 12 finish, and memorable wins over Wisconsin and Iowa State. Though BYU's season ended in a tough loss to Alabama—who broke an NCAA record with 25 three-pointers—the tone remains celebratory as the hosts look back on favorite moments from the season and look ahead to the future of BYU hoops.Former BYU receiver and Team Navy captain Austin Collie joins to discuss the Alumni Game's last-second win, quarterbacking alongside Charlie Peterson, and how the experience rekindles the competitive spirit of former players. Collie, now a new dad, also shares advice for BYU quarterbacks and receivers heading into the offseason, emphasizing the importance of earning trust through consistency, work ethic, and reliability—lessons he learned from playing with Max Hall, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady.Later, BYU volleyball standout Keoni Thiim joins in studio to talk about his electrifying impact on the court. With a 45-inch vertical and dynamic energy, Thiim discusses what it's like to play in the Smith Fieldhouse, how he transferred from Hawaii, and the deep family connections that led him to BYU—including his grandfather Mike Wilton, UH's all-time winningest coach. He previews this week's match against Stanford and reflects on BYU's unique culture and the motivation he draws from Cougar fans. The show wraps with fun rapid-fire questions and a preview of next week's guests, including Johnny Harline.Alongside interviews, the episode covers:Basketball departures and returnees, including Trevin Knell, Fouss Traore, and AJ Dybantsa's upcoming arrival.Football recruiting news, such as linebacker Nusi Taumoepeau and tight end Ty Goettsche committing to BYU.Alumni Game highlights, including Charlie Peterson's game-winning TD pass to Fahu Tahi, a TD from Blaine Fowler to Rob Daniel, and standout play from Cody Hoffman.Spring sports updates across baseball, softball, track, golf, and tennis, plus a shout-out to Casey Clinger for breaking Ed Eyestone's 10,000-meter school record. There are many ways to achieve long-term sobriety and happiness, but some people have trouble sticking with their plans because they don't have the right support system in place. If you're struggling with addiction or just want some tips on how to stay positive during recovery, look no further than these helpful resources. Sometimes what we need most is simply someone who will listen to us without judging or making assumptions about our situation. If someone is tearing down your efforts at being sober, try asking them why they think so little of you and see if there's something constructive they'd like to say instead of only pointing out what's wrong with what you've done so far. Never let anyone make you feel bad about yourself. Don't judge others unless they ask for your opinion. If someone calls you a name or says something offensive, try not to take it personally, and don't retaliate with insults of your own. Communication can be difficult when you are dealing with drug addiction because you may not always make sense when trying to communicate with others (or yourself). For example, if someone asks you why you were late for work and the reason was because of your addiction, it may not make sense to them because they don't know what it feels like to be high or drunk. Try using reflective listening instead of communicating directly so that both parties understand each other better without getting frustrated or angry with each other. Addiction is a complex disease that affects all areas of your life. It can happen to anyone at any age, but it's often easier to ignore the problem than face it head-on. There are many ways to get help for addiction, including seeking treatment through an outpatient facility or intensive outpatient program, or attending support groups or counseling. Live a happy, normal life: After treatment for drug abuse and alcoholism, many people worry about their future because they aren't sure how their lives will look now that drugs or alcohol aren't part of it anymore. It's important to remember that there's no one way to live a happy life — what matters most is that you find what works for you.
The health consequences of drug abuse can be severe and long-lasting, and can include physical and mental health problems such as heart disease, stroke, liver damage, respiratory problems, cancer, anxiety, depression, and addiction. When trying to motivate someone to avoid drug abuse, it can be helpful to emphasize the negative effects that drugs can have on their health, relationships, and future goals. It can also be helpful to offer support and resources for them to make positive changes, such as counseling, support groups, or alternative activities to replace drug use. Staying positive while addressing drug abuse can be challenging, but it's important to focus on the potential for positive change and improvement, both for the individual and their community. Emphasizing the benefits of healthy habits and self-care, such as exercise, meditation, and creative outlets, can provide a positive alternative to drug abuse and encourage a healthier lifestyle. This episode is a restream from May 30, 2021 Coach Blu interviews Shad Feild, cowboy, pilot, and son of Lewis Feild. After a traumatic plane crash in August 2020, Shad didn't know if he would ever walk again. He met team Addict II Athlete when he started a HIIT class with Coach James Johnson to help him build his strength back. Coach Johnson immediately invited him skydiving with the team to help him erase and replace that experience. Shad shares how his mindset was the pinnacle to being able to handle this trial. Shad said, "I was taught from a very young age to get back on that horse when you get bucked off! It's not always easy to conquer our fears but it's so freeing. I felt like it would be a good way to erase some of the negative brought on by the accident and replace it with something BIG, something I'd remember and have somewhat of a fresh start with my love for aviation." You can change your life. You have the power to make the changes you want in your life. The first step is to be aware of what you are doing in your life and how it is affecting you. What behaviors do you want to change? Do you want to stop eating unhealthy foods? Do you want to stop smoking? Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to start exercising more? Do you want to stop drinking alcohol? Do you want to stop spending money on things that are not important? Once you know what it is that you want, then it's time for action! Make a plan and start working towards achieving your goals! Notice your negative thoughts. When you notice that you are thinking a negative thought, take a moment to recognize it for what it is — just a thought — and then let it go. Accept that the negative thought is not true. It's important to realize that your negative thoughts don't represent the truth about reality or other people. They are only your perceptions of events and other people, and they are not necessarily accurate. You can also remind yourself that everyone has good days and bad days; not everyone will feel like going out every time you suggest something fun together. Recognize when a situation is beyond your control and become an Agent of Recovery.

Max Hall is a former quarterback for Brigham Young University and played in the National Football League for the Arizona Cardinals and in the Canadian Football League for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Over the course of his football career, Max sustained multiple concussions as well as other injuries that led to an opioid addiction. Today he is the varsity offensive coordinator at American Leadership Academy High School in Queen Creek, Arizona, and co-owner of Victory Recovery, an addiction recovery program. Highlights 2:15 Max Hall played as a quarterback at BYU. Later he played professionally for the Arizona Cardinals. 6:20 Max felt his faith was strong and his testimony grew at BYU. But he began to be consumed by his identity as a football player. He began to lose focus on his callings as a husband, father, and in the Church. Football became his focus and his identity. In his first few games, he was knocked out twice with concussions. A few games later he dislocated his shoulder. Dislocating his shoulder changed him. He felt that his NFL career was over, and consequently that he was losing his identity. At the same time, he was given a 30-day supply of percocet to manage the pain of the shoulder injury. The Percocet made him feel better. He took the 30-day supply in three days. The drug hooked him, and he became physically addicted. 9:30 Max started losing focus on everything other than the drugs. The drugs became more important than recovery and than being a good father. 10:15 Max had previously tried Percocet in high school. He gave in to peer pressure and tried some with friends. It was an amazing feeling. In high school, he didn't get addicted to it. He'd try it on weekends for fun. After his shoulder injury, when he finished his 30-day supply in three days, he called up his high school friend, who supplied him with oxycontin. 12:00 The following year, Max played again. But he dislocated his shoulder again. His addiction continued to grow. He turned to other drugs - heroin, cocaine, meth. Over the next five years, Max did have times of sobriety. He failed an NFL drug test, and a doctor put him on suboxone. Max started coaching at BYU, and it started out well. But come spring, he started using again. He played for two years in the CFL, where he didn't use hard drugs. When he came back to Arizona, he had a bad relapse. He was arrested for possessing cocaine. When it hit the press, he considered suicide. His mom called him, he entered rehab, and he started on his path to sobriety. 17:45 Addiction is hell. It takes your soul. It makes you a different person. He was a manipulator, a liar, and a cheater. He would do anything he had to do to keep his addiction going. It takes the soul of the addict and breaks the hearts of those around them. In rehab, he was wondering how he could ever fix everything that was wrong. He's been fortunate to have a strong support system. 18:40 Max does EDD's (every day drills) to keep himself right. He gets up with the alarm, goes to the gym, does meditation, and reads a book to set himself up for the day. He's been doing it for over 8 years. Without a program and discipline, it won't work. A lot of recovery is the things you do on a daily basis to make yourself a better person. 20:30 During his addiction, Max could not look up. He had lost his connection with the Spirit and with Christ. It got to the point where he was mad at God - "Why did this happen to me?" It took a lot of searching and prayer and relying on the Savior to regain that connection. Without Christ, Max wouldn't be where he is at. 22:00 Max considers getting arrested to be a blessing. His secret was out. He wanted to die. He wanted to disappear. But he had to make a decision to own it and to fight. Max Hall is a former quarterback for Brigham Young University and later played in the National Football League for the Arizona Cardinals and in the Canadian Football League for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. This week the Agents, Max Hall, Brock Bevell and Blu Robinson, dive deep into the best defense is a good offense. This is an old adage that has been around since ancient times, and it is still true today. This means that if you want to win any kind of battle, you must be proactive and take the initiative. You must be prepared to attack, but also be ready to defend yourself. This means that you should focus on strengthening your own position and attacking any weaknesses your opponent may have. By doing this, you will be able to take control of the situation and put yourself in the best position to win.

In recovery forgiveness is essential. We often forgive under duress or because we know that holding a grudge isn't suitable for the long term and may negatively impact our mental and physical health. Forgiveness is a complex psychological process made up of many different factors, which can sometimes work together to create a positive outcome. The same can be said when it comes to holding a grudge. Rationally, it may seem like you're actively punishing the other person by not forgiving them. But, holding on to your anger and resentment towards someone who wronged you may have negative consequences on your overall happiness.

Giving up something for a greater value is called sacrifice. This week on the podcast, The Agents discuss giving up something for your recovery from drugs and alcohol, such as drinking, smoking, or using drugs. Love and sacrifice are both important aspects of a healthy relationship This episode is about giving up something for greater value. This can manifest itself in many ways. In recovery, we might sacrifice a bad habit to stay sober and enjoy life on a new level. We also sacrifice when we invest in our recovery from drugs and alcohol. Sacrifice is what recovery is all about. Giving up things in order to do the right thing helps us invest in our lives. In doing this, YOU can become an Agent Of Recovery!
This week the Agnets of Recovery discuss the principles of overcoming addiction and how it has to be viewed as a bold endeavor. A lot of us need to make big, bold decisions from time to time to get the job done, and overcoming addiction may demand the biggest one of all. There are no magic bullets to fire here, just courage, determination, and resolve for better things. Alcoholism/addiction/other bad habits may be devastating to some. Still, it's important to remember that calling out for help is not a weakness, and it takes a strong person to recognize their problem and then take action. Too many of us are afraid to speak up, tell the truth, or be exactly who we are. It takes courage to be bold- sometimes, that courage comes in the form of one bold decision. Challenge yourself. If you think that addicts can never be pleased and fulfilled, if you think that addicts are doomed to relapse, if you believe that addicts cannot form healthy relationships because we're always chasing the high - then I encourage you to listen to our podcast. What if you could change that perception? What if you were bold enough to believe differently? What if your life depended on it? What if you were an AGENT OF RECOVERY!
