This week I'm honored to speak with one of my favorite authors and thinkers, Dr. Larry Dossey. Dr. Dossey is a leading voice bridging the worlds of science and spirituality. He was a practicing physician for many years, and was chief of staff at Medical City Dallas Hospital. He also served as a battalion surgeon in the Vietnam War, earning the Medal of Valor and Bronze Star. He is the author of twelve books, including the New York Times bestseller “Healing Words.” This interview focuses on his most recent book, “One Mind: How Our Individual Mind Is Part of a Greater Consciousness and Why It Matters.” “One Mind” examines phenomena like telepathy, premonitions, near-death experiences, autistic savants, spontaneous healing, and more, which are not explainable by materialism (the assertion that the physical world is all that exists, and our thoughts are mere byproducts of chemical reactions in our brains). Based on evidence—not dogma or blind faith—Dr. Dossey concludes that our minds are not separate or confined to our brains, but are transcendent and connected through a kind of internet of consciousness, which he calls the One Mind. Reaching a realization of the One Mind, he says in this interview, “is the cure for the greatest disease which has ever afflicted human beings, which is the fear of death.” Visit Dr. Dossey's website: larrydosseymd.com Read his books, including "One Mind": amazon.com/Larry-Dossey/e/B000AQ2V1U Read his essay (mentioned in the interview) “War: A Vietnam Memoir”: projectpeaceonearth.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Dr.-Larry-Dossey-Vietnam-Field-Surgeon-Editorial-War.pdf This ad-free podcast is supported by Sam's Torode's books, including “Living from the Soul: The 7 Spiritual Principles of Ralph Waldo Emerson,” available at samtorode.com .

Join me and my guest, Kala DeHaan-Hill, as we talk about solving the mysteries of health and wellness. Kala is a women’s health nurse practitioner who saw the problem with traditional medicine and started a journey to connect more with people that need medical attention beyond a drug prescription.   In this episode, you’ll learn: The value of genuinely providing a remedy to a patient’s concerns. Antidepressants and postmortem depression. Menopause and how vitamin D, B12, and probiotics help with energy and hormones. How thyroid levels relate to age, genetics, and other factors. What are the medications for any complications? Inflammation, gut health, allergies, and hormones. And more!   ~   About Kala DeHaan-Hill   Kala has been in the healthcare field for more than 13 years. She received her BSN from UT Health Science Center San Antonio in 2002. She began her career as a Registered Nurse working in Labor and Delivery, worked in the mother/baby unit and in the nursery unit at Medical City Dallas Hospital. Kala then started working at Presbyterian Hospital of Allen from 2004-2007 where she served as charge nurse in Labor and Delivery. Being able to witness the continual onset of life was a very fulfilling experience for Kala, one she will cherish forever.    Kala earned her Master of Science Degree (MS) as a Women’s Health Certified Nurse Practitioner (WHCNP) from Texas Woman’s University in 2007. She graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was a member of the International Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau. She received her clinical hours working at Planned Parenthood, Parkland Gynecological Clinic, and multiple OB/Gyn doctors’ offices.    Kala then worked as a Women's Health Nurse Practioner at Texas Medical and Surgical Associates followed by Glen Lakes Ob/Gyn from 2007 to 2013. She specialized in all areas of women’s healthcare from teen health, pregnancy, postpartum care, annual exams, problem visits, contraception, and issues related to menopause. She trained several Nurse Practitioner students and found that she had a passion for teaching. She also provided Botox and Juvaderm treatments and currently does these injections at Pink Link Medical.    Kala then worked at Hirsch Clinic from 2013-2014 where she found her passion for working with hormone issues; especially disorders of the thyroid and PCOS. Working at Hirsch Clinic is what prompted her to want to start her own practice geared specifically towards hormone imbalances. This lead to the opening of PINK LINK MEDICAL in Plano, TX.   On her time off, Kala enjoys volunteering at Pathways, a non-profit organization that offers experiential and intensive programs designed to help empower men and women to better their lives and become the best they can be. She has sponsored numerous people through the process and is always willing share her story.    Kala comments on one of the main reasons she decided to pursue her own practice: “I always felt restricted in taking care of my patients. I did not feel 15 minutes was enough time to fully listen and evaluate patient concerns. I felt traditional medicine concentrated more on “fixing” the symptoms instead of taking care of the underlying problem. Personally, I have battled several health issues; PCOS and low thyroid being just a few. I felt frustrated with a short 15 minute visit, being shuffled from one doctor to the next, and feeling like I wasn’t being heard. I wanted to figure out a way to change this for the patients I treat. Dr. Larry Dossey – From the Illusion of Separation to the Truth of UnityAired Tuesday, 9 July 2019, 5:00 PM EST / 2:00 PM PSTIt’s “One Mind” Over All MattersInterview with Dr. Larry Dossey, Author of “One Mind: How Our Individual Mind is Part of a Greater Consciousness and Why it Matters”“Sadly, the biggest threat to the planetary eco-system is the human ego-system.” — Swami BeyondanandaThere is nothing wrong with the human ego. Who would we be without an ego? Nobody, that’s who!But … what if in addition to being “somebody” we were also “everybody”? What if we were connected in ways that seem outlandish to the ordinary mind? What if, in fact, there was no such thing as the “ordinary mind” and that we were all part of one big “extraordinary mind”?Our guest this week, Dr. Larry Dossey, has been a pioneer in complementary and alternative medicine. He has written books that offer both empirical and anecdotal evidence of the healing power of prayer, and his latest book offers the best antidote yet to the unbalanced “individualism” that has woven us dangerously outside the web of life.As to what this metaphysical issue has to do with healing the body politic, Larry says: “Only by realizing, at the deepest emotional level, our connections with one another and the Earth itself can we summon the courage necessary to make the tough choices that are required in order to survive. So, this book is also about staying alive — saving the Earth and our own skins.”Dr. Larry Dossey has long been recognized as influential advocate of the role of the mind in health and the role of spirituality in healthcare. A graduate of University of Texas and Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, he also served as a battalion surgeon in Vietnam, and Chief of Staff of Medical City Dallas Hospital. The author of nine books and numerous articles, Dr. Dossey is the former Executive Editor of the peer-reviewed journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, the most widely subscribed-to journal in its field. In his 1989 book Recovering the Soul, he introduced the concept of “nonlocal mind” — mind unconfined to the brain and body, mind spread infinitely throughout space and time. Since then, “nonlocal mind” has been adopted by many leading scientists as an emerging image of consciousness. He is also the author of Healing Words : The Power of Prayer and the Practice of Medicine as well as Prayer is Good Medicine : How to Reap the Healing Benefits of Prayer, pioneering and controversial books about the effect of mind on medicine. While mainstream science – in its unwillingness to even look at phenomena it can’t explain through current knowledge – has resisted Dr. Dossey’s idea, evidence from as far afield as quantum physics seems to support his view of “one mind”.If you’re curious how his work informs and impacts our current political, cultural, and ecological “shituation”, please tune in this Tuesday, July 9th at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET. http://omtimes.com/iom/shows/wiki-politiki-radio-show/One more thing… How YOU and WE Can Make a DifferenceHave you noticed that regardless of which of the two political parties you vote for, neither of them seem to be willing to confront Monsanto and agribusiness? Awake 2 Oneness Radio with Dr. Larry Dossey live on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 7:00 EDT.  Larry Dossey, M.D. deeply rooted in the scientific world, has become an internationally influential advocate of the role of the mind in health and the role of spirituality in healthcare. Bringing the experience of a practicing internist and the soul of a poet to the discourse, Dr. Larry Dossey offers panoramic insight into the nature and the future of medicine. Dr. Dossey helped establish the Dallas Diagnostic Association, the largest group of internal medicine practitioners in that city, and was Chief of Staff of Medical City Dallas Hospital in 1982. An education steeped in traditional Western medicine did not prepare Dr. Dossey for patients who were blessed with "miracle cures," remissions that clinical medicine could not explain. "Almost all physicians possess a lavish list of strange happenings unexplainable by normal science," says Dr. Dossey. "A tally of these events would demonstrate, I am convinced, that medical science not only has not had the last word, it has hardly had the first word on how the world works, especially when the mind is involved." Larry author of nine books and numerous articles, Dr. Dossey is the former Executive Editor of the peer-reviewed journal Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, the most widely subscribed-to journal in its field. The primary quality of all of Dr. Dossey's work is scientific legitimacy, with an insistent focus on "what the data show."
