No one is born knowing the right way to exercise. Various ways of learning how to work out include asking friends for advice, watching videos on social media, listening to podcasts (like this one) or purchasing a fitness-based magazine. Magazines can be a great resource for learning proper exercise or nutrition strategies, but not all magazines are the same; some provide helpful, evidence-based guidance while others are full of ads and promotions for various supplements. Ebenezer Samuel has always liked to exercise which led to a career as a sports reporter covering teams in the New York City area. However, he found himself drawn to his passion for fitness; now he is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and works as the Fitness Director for Men's Health Magazine. On this episode of All About Fitness, Ebenezer shares how he turned his hobby into his career, in addition, we discuss what equipment and trends will shape fitness in 2021. This is an insightful and thought-provoking discussion with someone who helps create the trends that make us sweat. We’re talking about one of the best writers in erotic romance this week—Join us for a deep dive into Nikki Sloane’s Three Little Mistakes, which is one of Sarah’s favorite romances. We’re talking about kink, kink shaming, how to make sex discussions less awkward with new partners and how erotic romance is doing some of the best work in the genre right now…and we’re also going to talk about fruity drinks. In two weeks, we’re officially OFFICIALLY reading Judith McNaught’s A Kingdom of Dreams! Get ready for Sarah’s favorite historical of all time. It’s HAPPENING. Find A Kingdom of Dreams at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books, or Kobo … and don’t forget your favorite indie, which is probably shipping books right now and definitely needs your patronage! Here's Jen Porter on Twitter talking about erotic romance. But just this week, Robin Bradford (winner of the RWA Librarian of the year!) was also talking about why it's a problem that we don't have a clear definition for erotic romance.Getting RWA to recoginize erotic romance was such a struggle that there was actually a petition! But now we can (hopefully) all move on to bigger and better things with The Vivian.YA books with queer characters are some of the most challenged books in America.Sarah also mentioned Sordid, which has non-consensual sex and therefore needs a content warning.Ron Charles is cool.Nikki Sloane used to live in Chicago and now lives in Kentucky. Looks like Jen's friendship plans have just been foiled.Having sex in a porche sounds excruciating, and so does having sex with a porche (WTF!), but Men's Health Magazine to the rescue with this handy (lol) list of best cars to have sex in.If you're interested in breath play, please do it safely.RIP Tumblr. We miss you.Decriminalize sex work.Maybe when we can go places again, you might want to rent or buy a yurt in Hawaii.Avoid those sugary drinks for yourself and your kids. If you are in Chicago and looking for a dentist, Jen LOVES her dentist Dr. Deaver and Dr. Casimir at Classic Smiles on South Wabash. And she really buried the lede and forgot to mention that Dr. Deaver is not only an amazing dentist, but he was President Obama's dentist!Next time: A Kingdom of Dreams.Preorder Daring and the Duke from WORD in Brooklyn and you'll get a sweet limited edition yellow Fated Mates sticker.
If someone asked me what was one of my Favorite books I wouldn't say "Platform Book." I would just say Platform. If someone asked what was one of my favorite movies? I wouldn't say "Caddyshack Movie." I would just say "Caddyshack." If someone asked what was one of my favorite magazines to read, I wouldn't say "Men's Health Magazine." I would say "Men's Health." So why do I see "The Ernie and Bert Podcast" as the title of shows? It seems like so many shows have the word PODCAST in the name. While you might say, Dave, your show is Your PODCAST Consultant. I get a pass as I'm talking about podcasting. The Global News Podcast could just be "Global News." The minimalists Podcasts could just be "The Minimalists." The Generation Why Podcast could be "Generation Why." Apple Search Has Issues When you leave words like "The" and "Podcast" in your name you are ranked against every show with the word "The" or "Podcast" in the name. When you remove this clutter, it can actually boost your search results in apps. While most people learn about new podcasts via word of mouth, anything you can do to make it easier to be found in apps is a plus. Need Help With Your Podcast? As I sit down to talk with Corey we jump into his work in global marketing for an international drug company and his reason for wanting to step away from such a lucrative position. As we finish talking about Corey's marketing career we head into something that intrigues me - his life transformation. From one thing to another Corey continues to embrace change into his life - in the fact that he used to be a 215 pound football player and made the transition into a much leaner 170 pound competitive amateur triathlete. Corey shares his high school love for Men's Health Magazine and how it shaped his lifting routine at the time. Then I plug another curiosity of mine and get Corey to open up his experience with setting his own PR in the beer mile. As we veer to the end of our conversation about the beer mile we started in Part 2, Corey and I get onto the big question: why do your very first full Ironman at Mont Tremblant? Corey shares his experience at the venue having self-coached his way to finishing his first full ironman and going back later to share the midnight finish with his parents. Corey's experience inspired his father to complete his own full ironman and they shared a race together back at Mont Tremblant a few years after his first attempt. I marvel at Corey's discipline to work 40-60 hours a week and train for a full ironman, but he shares his secret that keeps him motivated to get it all in and why it makes him HAPPY. As with all my guests I ask Corey what his number 1 recovery choice is and he picks something his registered dietitian girlfriend can be proud of. SQR Podcast - The Community Podcast (Entertain - Educate - Encourage)
"I was too scared to quit". Among the many jewels dropped by super human/super ninja Joey K, as he honors SQR Podcast with one of our most fascinating stories yet. Listen as this only child who grew up a little shy, sheltered and even spoiled to parents who divorced at age 6. Spending time between mom and dad, Joey was able to enjoy all the fun and freedom from dad, however mom kept him in line with discipline, living clean and eating clean with a strong vegetarian diet. A transient early childhood included a move to Boston as mom remarried. Influenced by his grandmother in putting others first, lead to him making a decision to move back to live with his father and step mother in New Jersey. A ready-made household with a 10-year-old brother and 13-year-old sister; total chaos. A skinny kid with crappy grades and no athletic capabilities graduated high school, and with a seed planted by his uncle John, inspired him to join the navy; seal team that is; as the team work was appealing to him. Mom resisted. ("Give us your heart, we will take care of your body.") The mantra that fueled Joey K through the rigorous training to be a part of this elite BUDS team. Enjoy as joey shares his intimate experiences, wins and failures through the entire process of hell week and how it has allowed him to tackle all obstacle courses-physically and mentally-in life. Excerpts that could be applied to our life's journey, Joey shares of his transition back to civilian life. The self-destructive habits formed and his 'a-ha' moment, August 2016, looking at the Men's Health Magazine in Walgreen's. The dedication, drive and constant need to raise the ceiling are the main ingredients to SQR's conversation with Joey K. Noah Galloway is a veteran who sustained injuries in an IED attack on his second deployment during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005. He lost two of his limbs and sustained severe injuries to his right leg and his jaw. Like many disabled veterans, Galloway became withdrawn, out of shape and depressed. The former fitness fanatic and athlete was drinking, smoking, and sleeping his days away. But late one night, Galloway realized that there was more to him than the injuries. He walked out of his room realizing that he was setting the example for his boys of what a man is. And for his little girl, the example of how a man should act and it terrified him. He needed to make a change, and he needed to do it fast. He joined a 24-hour gym and started eating right. He participated in obstacle races and adventure races around the country, such as Tough Mudder, Spartan events, Crossfit competitions plus numerous 5K and 10K races. Now a personal trainer and motivational speaker, Galloway doesn’t take excuses from his clients, fans, or followers – and finds ways to get things done. Galloway was a season 20 participant of Dancing With The Stars, in which he took third place following his appearance on the cover of Men's Health Magazine and numerous other publications. Most recently Noah joined WWE Superstar John Cena and three other veterans on American Grit, a military-inspired show on the Fox Network that splits 16 of the toughest men and women into four teams as they work together to face survival challenges. It's Galloway's job to push his team of civilians to work together and to go beyond their limits. The show airs Thursday, April 14th at 9/8 central on Fox.

"I feel like "I use the word 'trepidation' in discussions about the NL Central" is actually a pretty good way to define myself in one sentence." (That sentence is not actually in the podcast, but is Annie's post-hoc reflection.) Episode #12 features the extremely awesome Annie Maroon. Topics du jour include Pittsburgh, The Mountain Goats, women in sports journalism, and post-modernist literature. An in a week where Men's Health Magazine runs a dumb article about how women hate sports, and this is a good conversation about how dumb that #hottake is. Music by Chris Pappas, except for "Spanish Flea" for technical difficulties. Editing by the wunderkind @rillcausey.
TODAY'S MESSAGE Are you or someone you love struggling with addiction? Do you want to break free & live a full life? Then meet Ryan Donnelly! Ryan Donnelly is an author, vlogger, and creator of Free From Hell; a freel social network for recovering addicts & the people who love them. Ryan's passion for life has enabled him to touch many people. He has appeared on Anderson Cooper & was recently featured in Men's Health Magazine. Here is a glimpse of Ryan's life & mission in his own words: "I am a recovering addict & alcoholic. My drug of choice was Oxycontin. Over the past two years on my journey to sobriety I have replaced my “drug of choice” with an undeniable thirst to live life and be present in each and every moment I have left of it. My goal & passion in life is to change the addiction community. I find it disgusting that people who need help can not afford it. Most treatment centers cost far too much money & I am going to change the competition. I am going to be opening free rehabs to the public nationwide. These rehabs will be self-sustaining & I have come up with a formula to keep them running. My goals are to reach as many lives as I can. To show people that an addict on a positive mission is one that will not be stopped. I am a voice of the men women who are struggling and I give my life for this mission." -Ryan Donnelly
