In this episode of JJ Meets World, JJ and Tucker dive into underrated movies, cult classics, video store nostalgia, Fargo pop culture, local mascots, and the strange ways entertainment has changed in the streaming era. JJ kicks things off with a passionate defense of Clifford, the 1994 Martin Short and Charles Grodin comedy that deserves far more love than it gets. From there, the conversation turns into a celebration of underappreciated movies, including The Hand That Rocks the Cradle with Rebecca De Mornay and Ernie Hudson, and Mouse Hunt, the Nathan Lane and Lee Evans comedy directed by Gore Verbinski. The conversation also explores why old video rental stores made it easier to discover strange, wonderful movies, how streaming algorithms shape what people watch now, and why DVD collections, Blu-ray releases, and physical media still matter. JJ shares memories of Stephen Tobolowsky, signed memorabilia, celebrity photos, and the documentary Stephen Tobolowsky's Birthday Party. Later, JJ and Tucker talk about Fargo nostalgia and local change, including the bankruptcy of Jade Presents, memories of Steve Hanson, the demolition of familiar places, downtown Fargo's raccoon mascot, and Country Hearth's bread mascot Loafy. The episode wraps with video rental store simulator games, job-based cozy games, Valheim, a one-to-one Titanic build, and Tucker's imaginary documentary about JJ chopping down a tree. It's a wide-ranging JJ Meets World conversation about movies, nostalgia, Fargo, mascots, physical media, gaming, and the little pop culture discoveries that stick with you forever. Birth/Rebirth (Moss 2023) Marshall Smith, PhD, and Laura Patterson, PhD, offer a sociological discussion of the 2023 film Birth/Rebirth. This is a vaguely Frankensteinian film, that addresses control of women’s bodies from a unique perspective. We very much appreciate a novel take especially given the current political climate. Laura was really impressed with the dominant read of the film as well as the representation of pregnancy, IVF, and prospective motherhood. Marshall had concerns of a possible contested reading of the film as critical of fetal science and respecting the choices of pregnant women. There is lots more of our podcast! "I need a doctor. Know of any, Mrs. Mott?" We watched "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle" with our friend Chris Gallo, and you'll have to excuse us while we take down this wind chime. This movie is firing on all cylinders from jump, and we were caught off guard more than a couple of times with some of the twists and turns. Rebecca De Mornay slays (literally) as the revenge-seeking "nanny from hell" unleashed upon the unsuspecting Bartel family. Annabella Sciorra plays asthmatic new mom Claire Bartel with a nervous energy that we're still trying to reconcile, and Julianne Moore eats up every scene as '90s businesswoman Marlene Craven. Ernie Hudson is doing the best he can with a role that would never be in a film these days, and Matt McCoy is there as Claire's husband, but this film is really about the women. Maybe the scorned woman trope is well-worn territory, but De Mornay, Sciorra, and Moore are just so much fun to watch in this soapy psychological drama. We thought we'd seen everything at that movies until Rebecca De Mornay sashayed across that playground and showed that (child) bully who's boss. No notes. For the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.
Hannah's story reveals that model motherhood isn't about perfection, but about faithfulness to God's purposes. Living during Israel's chaotic period, Hannah demonstrates three key characteristics: worshiping the sovereign Lord while recognizing His greater plan, crying out honestly to God in times of struggle and brokenness, and serving sacrificially by holding loosely to what we love most. Her barrenness represents our fundamental need for God's intervention, and her eventual willingness to give Samuel back to God shows the ultimate sacrifice of motherhood. Hannah found satisfaction not in getting what she wanted, but in surrendering her desires to the Lord, teaching us that true fulfillment comes from giving ourselves completely to God rather than trying to control outcomes through our own strength.
Rebecca De Mornay stars in John Patrick Shanley's play The Pushover at The Chain Theatre. The play is directed by Kirk Gostkowski and also stars Di Zhu, Christina Toth, and Christopher Sutton. De Mornay first gained widespread recognition with her screen debut in Risky Business and went on to deliver memorable performances in films including The Hand That Rocks the Cradle and Runaway Train, along with an extensive body of television work. In addition to her prolific performing career, De Mornay is also a writer, director, and producer. This episode was recorded on April 17, 2026. Learn more about your ad choices. If you're craving a book that channels the delicious, edge-of-your-seat thrill of those iconic '90s psychological dramas — think The Hand That Rocks the Cradle or Single White Female — look no further. Jennifer Van Der Kleut's debut, The Better Mother, delivers. It's unhinged in the best way, deliciously chaotic, and anchored by a lead villain you'll absolutely love to hate. Tense, twisty, and dripping with nostalgia, this one feels like a late-night thriller you can't turn off — but in book form.I was so thrilled to welcome Jennifer to Books Are Chic to chat about her road to this sensational suspense novel. We talked about our favorite thrillers, how Blair Waldorf inspired the story, her persistence on the path to publication, and the Reddit thread that sparked it all. Conversations like this are why I love what I do — getting to peek behind the curtain of a story this juicy.I truly can't wait to see what's next for Jennifer, because The Better Mother is one I'll be thinking about for a long time.

Join them as they discuss the 2025 thriller “The Hand that Rocks The Cradle.” Does it stack up against the impeccably campy 1992 original? Is it sexy enough to be considered a romantic/erotic thriller? Is there a reason at all for the two leading women in this movie to have a flirtation beyond giving the people what they want? All these questions and more are answered in this positively wild episode. Subject matter is me going over the differences from the 1992 version and the 2025 version. What I like with both also the different motives. @sdotfoster8
This week, we're rocking our way through a double feature, the 1992 classic The Hand That Rocks the Cradle and Hulu's shiny new reboot. In the original, a picture-perfect family hires a seemingly perfect nanny… who turns out to be terrifyingly good at multitasking (revenge, manipulation, and interior design). Meanwhile, Hulu's reboot tries to modernize the story, and somehow loses all the tension, charm, and, well… logic.
Tonight on On Trial, we are comparing and contrasting the 1992 The Hand That Rocks the Cradle with the 2025 Hulu remake. The original, directed by Curtis Hanson, starred Annabella Sciorra as Claire Bartel, a new mother targeted by Rebecca De Mornay's chillingly composed nanny, Peyton Flanders, alongside Matt McCoy, Julianne Moore, and Ernie Hudson. It defined the early '90s domestic thriller — glossy, paranoid, and simmering with class and gender tension. The new version, directed by Michelle Garza Cervera, stars Maika Monroe as Polly Murphy, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Caitlin Morales, and Raúl Castillo as her husband Miguel, with a supporting cast that reframes the story through a modern lens of influencer parenting, fertility tech, and curated perfection. Tonight, we put both films on the stand: Has the remake deepened the original's themes of trust, vengeance, and control — or traded its bite for sleek, algorithmic polish? We're finding out which one truly rocks the cradle.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
Directed by Michelle Garza Cervera and written by Micah Bloomberg, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle is the thriller film starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Maika Monroe. It is a loose remake of the 1992 film of the same name. Caitlin Morales (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), an upscale suburban mum brings a new nanny, Polly Murphy (Maika Monroe), into her home, only to discover she is not the person she claims to be. We break down all things from violent babysitters to babies in distress, and the fact that neither if us have seen the original.

Welcome back to Geekz 31 Days of Horror! Tonight, we're diving into one of 2025's most talked-about psychological thrillers — the chilling reimagining of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (2025), now streaming on Hulu! This modern update of the 1992 classic trades in suburbia for the sun-soaked streets of Los Angeles, where Caitlin Morales (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) — a successful attorney and new mom — hires the seemingly perfect nanny Polly Murphy (Maika Monroe). But as Polly's calm, caring façade begins to crack, Caitlin and her husband Miguel (Raúl Castillo) uncover a web of manipulation, obsession, and psychological terror that turns their dream home into a nightmare.

It's just Kevin and Andrew this week and they have a tight and shockingly relevant episode. They cover the finale of Gen V, A House of Dynamite, and The Hand That Rocks The Cradle (2025). The guys jump right into it this episode the series finale of Gen V. This season was an improvement over an already solid first season and a great lead in to the final season of The Boys. They discuss the big reveals, as well as listener Mike's great catch early in the season. The season had a ton of great character growth and great twists. It will be very interesting to see who shows up in The Boys (probably everyone, at least for a bit?) and who can actually go toe to toe with Homelander. This season left us very hungry for what comes next! Next up, Kevin talks about the new Netflix movie, A House of Dynamite. This is very strong political thriller starring seemingly everyone. The plot, the story of an unknown missile launched at the US, feels far too gritty and plausible. The guys discuss Kathryn Bigelow's body of work and what she might be saying with this one. That said, this is an absolute must watch. Kevin closes the show with a bit of a stinker in the remake of The Hand That Rocks The Cradle. This one stars two great actresses in Maika Monroe and Mary Elizabeth Winsted. Sadly they are wasted on this film. It's an hour long slog which then does manage to throw in a great twist, but far too late. Then the rest of the film is a predictable snowball to the end. If you're itching for this story, you're better off watching the original. As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers!
