What if the most meaningful thing you did for your mental health wasn't something new — but a return to what already brings you joy? Dan recently sat down with journalist and broadcaster Sam Sanders on the Sam Sanders Show to explore exactly that idea. Sam has a concept he calls "modern scriptures": the movies, albums, and TV shows you return to again and again because they ground you, center you, and remind you what matters. Dan shares the pop culture that never fails to lift his spirits — and along the way, the two get into why beauty and art are actually central to human flourishing, why Ferris Bueller is more Buddhist than you might think, and what the research says about making resolutions stick — including the one upstream habit that makes everything else easier. If you notice yourself tightening just as life begins to open—overthinking what should be next, bracing for the other shoe to drop, or needing certainty before you let yourself move—this episode is for you. I'm unpacking why expansion often activates the same survival-based identity that once kept you safe, and how that fear-driven system can quietly run the show even when things are objectively going well. We'll explore how the Inner Critic disguises control as responsibility, why your nervous system reacts before your mind has time to catch up, and how old identities shape what you call "realistic," "wise," or "safe." ✨ Tune in to learn how to recognize when fear—not truth—is driving your decisions, reconnect with the grounded wisdom of your Authentic Self, and begin choosing from alignment instead of anxiety—so growth doesn't require bracing, only presence, trust, and the capacity to stay with what's unfolding. Your weekly reflection questions: Where in my life am I labeling myself as "stuck" instead of recognizing that I'm in the sacred in-between of shedding an old identity? What roles, patterns, or versions of me am I still gripping for safety—even though I can feel they no longer fit who I'm becoming? If I stayed present with this discomfort instead of trying to fix it, what guidance might my Authentic Self be quietly offering me right now?

You're a dumpee and your ex is dating someone new. Here is what not to do, if you want to try to get your ex back. Are they in a rebound relationship?
New Year's Day comes with a lot of pressure to reinvent yourself, get clear, and have a plan. In this solo episode, I'm talking about why you don't need any of that today. January 1st doesn't have to be a test, a turning point, or proof that you're doing life "right," especially if you're coming out of divorce, separation, or a year that asked more of you than you thought you could give. This episode is about orienting instead of reinventing and recognizing that growth doesn't always look like action. It creates space to slow down, notice where you are, and consider what might be ready for choice, not necessarily today, but soon. As this new year begins, this is a reminder that nothing is starting from scratch. Every boundary held, every truth acknowledged, and every quiet decision already counts as movement. Becoming doesn't require reinvention, and choosing doesn't require certainty. This is about listening, honoring what's already known, and allowing the next step to unfold in its own time. What you'll hear about in this episode: Why you don't need a plan, a word of the year, or complete clarity on January 1st Why beginnings often feel awkward, uneven, and tender The difference between achieving and becoming Why self-trust matters more than certainty as a new year begins ✨ If you'd like to watch the video version of this episode, you can find it here. What does it take to start over in a new place? The Stern siblings—Yakov (10), Rina (8), and Toby (5)—know firsthand, having just moved from Miami Beach, Florida to Manchester, New Jersey less than a week before our conversation. Their honest reflections reveal the complex emotions of leaving behind everything familiar: excitement about living closer to extended family, sadness about missing friends, and nervousness about fitting in at a new school. Each child approaches this transition differently. Yakov proactively seeks out future classmates, gathering intelligence about his new school. Rina worries about being included in games and conversations. Toby packed a framed photo of her and her friend to keep memories close. Their differing approaches remind us that personality, age, and individual resilience all shape how children navigate life changes.Social worker Avi Kohn, LMSW offers transformative wisdom about transitions, introducing the crucial distinction between confidence and courage. "Confidence comes from experience," he explains, "but courage is what we call upon when we have no confidence yet." This powerful framework helps children understand that feeling uncertain doesn't mean they're doing something wrong—it means they're facing a situation that requires bravery rather than prior experience.Rabbi Kohn shares practical strategies for both newcomers and those welcoming them. For new children: take initiative rather than waiting for others, be prepared for adjustment to take months rather than days, and respond to potential unkindness with kindness. For welcoming students: remember the mitzvah of being kind to newcomers, recognize that small acts of inclusion can have lasting impacts, and understand that differences may initially feel scary but offer opportunities for growth.Whether your child is starting kindergarten, moving to a new community, or joining a new activity, this episode provides the emotional vocabulary and practical tools to transform challenging transitions into opportunities for developing resilience. We often think of courage as staying strong, holding steady. But what if real bravery is being open to change? Today, Dora explores the quiet strength in letting go of old identities and becoming someone new. ✨ Are you holding onto a version of yourself that's no longer meant to come with you?✨ What identities, roles, or ways of being might you need to release in order to step into the life you truly want?Sometimes growth doesn't look like gaining more—it looks like shedding what no longer fits. This episode is an invitation into the tender, transformative space between who you were and who you're becoming. If you've been feeling the tension of transition, or sensing that something new is calling you without knowing exactly what it is, this reflection might be the grounding reminder your soul needs.
High-achieving women, this one's for you. You've built success by being yourself—by showing up real, raw, and aligned. But now that you're reaching for the next level, you're feeling the pressure to become someone new in order to belong in “higher” rooms. This episode is your reminder:You don't need to reinvent yourself. You need to double down on the 20% of your authentic expression that created 80% of your results. In Episode 7 of the Authenticity Series, we're unpacking:Why your frontend (what people see) might be misaligned with your backend (what actually built your brand)The sneaky way high-level women start performing again at new levels of growthWhy your desire to evolve is valid—but faking it isn't the pathHow to refine your identity instead of abandoning itHow staying rooted in your authentic expression creates scalable, sustainable successYou don't need to become someone else to get to your next level. You need to become more of you.Resource Links:Apply for Soft x Savage Mastermind — My 12-month mastermind for those ready to build a legacyDM “Messaging” on Instagram — For direct access to details and bonusesLaura's Amazon Favorites — My daily essentials for soft, savage leadershipConnect with Laura:Instagram: @itslaurapatriciamartinYouTube: @softxsavageLove the episode? What if the hardest part of being real… is letting people see it? We almost didn't record this. The voice in my head said: Don't show too much. Don't be too much. But I'm tired of that voice. I'd love to have you. Go here to join us. Brian and I recorded this audio-only episode while we were out at a café in Naoussa, Paros. There's a lot of background noise, people chatting, drills drilling, cars revving—but we left it all in because it felt real. And that's what this episode is: real. The sound quality is a bit shit. Apologies. If you like it, and we keep this format, it will improve. I'm not quite sure what's going on at the moment. Life feels messy. Confusing. I feel as if something has cracked open in me. Maybe it's grief. Maybe it's the start of a new season. Maybe both. I don't know. And that's what this episode is: Not knowing. Me, trying to untangle something I can't fully name yet, and Brian offering his ever-wise and patient thoughts. This episode is about grief—what it looks like when you're in it: the confusion, the uncertainty, the messiness, the ache of something ending, or beginning, or both. It's also about shame. About the fear of being seen—really seen. About how hard it can be to hit publish when you're sharing something vulnerable. About how I listened back to a recent episode and cringed—not because I wasn't being real, but because I was. This is us, a husband and wife, in the middle of the mess, figuring it out as we go. If you're in that place too, I hope this episode feels like a warm hand on your back. Thank you for giving us your time and for offering us this space to figure things out. Please reach out by email. This sweeping restriction covers an estimated 264,000 acres of federal land and effectively halts new energy exploration in the region. Under the guise of environmental stewardship, the regime claims the move is in response to requests from Native American tribes, conservationists, and outdoor sports enthusiasts. But critics argue this is another clear example of Biden's commitment to strangling domestic energy production in favor of appeasing radical environmentalist groups. The regime's proposal begins a 90-day public comment period and triggers a two-year moratorium on new oil, gas, and geothermal leases in the area. The lands will remain accessible for mining activities, leading some to question the consistency of the regime's environmental policies. More from Reuters: Source: thegatewaypundit.com Administrative Reversal: A future administration could choose to reverse or modify this decision. For example, President-elect Donald Trump, set to take office, has expressed intentions to ramp up domestic oil and gas production. This could mean rescinding or altering the withdrawal order if he chooses to do so upon taking office. Legal Challenges: The decision could face legal challenges from industry groups or others who oppose the restriction. If successful, these challenges could lead to the decision being overturned or modified by court order. However, given the current legal framework, such challenges would need to navigate environmental laws and public interest considerations. https://twitter.com/KobeissiLetter/status/1873777174320152967 .
