Tom Parsons was a local make-up artist in Nashville who helped out Bill at the age of 13 and was an important part of Bill's journey.  I loved Bill's journey and his passion for life. Referred to as the “Prince of Paleo-fiction”, he is best known for his Kronos Rising series of sci-fi suspense thrillers which have garnered both Book of the Year and People's Choice awards. He is the Amazon #1 bestselling author of the cryptid research book, Monsters & Marine Mysteries, Memoirs of a Gym Rat, an outrageous exposé of the health club industry, and the children's book I Want a Tyrannosaurus for Christmas. His song, A Tyrannosaurus for Christmas, peaked at #2 on the 2021 World Indie Charts. He has been interviewed by both The Washington Post and Fangoria Magazine and has appeared on QVC, Spaced Out Radio, Coast to Coast AM, and in A Tribe Called Quest's rap video, I Left My Wallet in El Segundo.Max's experiences with the unknown go back decades. In the summer of 1984, he encountered an unknown creature digging itself out of a grave in a cemetery in Philadelphia, PA. In that same region in 1989, he watched a UFO hurtling across the night sky do an impossible maneuver – a complete and instantaneous 180-degree reversal, with no deceleration or noticeable turning, at a speed that was at least three times that of the commercial jets below it (approximately Mach 2). During the summer of 1993, he observed a huge, anthropoid-like creature, which he believes to be a Sasquatch, for 10-15 minutes as it dived repeatedly for crayfish in a Connecticut lake. On November 22, 2016, Max and his daughter observed a winged entity that had apparently crash-landed in the street near their home. The creature had an estimated wingspan of 3-4 feet and, once it recovered, flew over the author's SUV. Since then, Max has had multiple encounters with cryptids, to the point he decided to begin documenting his experiences in order to share them with the world.Max visits with Dean to talk about a brand new video that he has just released at: https://maxhawthorne.com/the-videos/The video, captured by Max on a trail cam, seems to show some kind of non-human entity, perhaps cloaked in an energy field. Is it an ET, a reptilian, a ghost, a cryptid, a demon, or something else?Max and Dean discuss the intriguing video, along with some of Max's possible encounters with whatever entity might be seen in the video. It's the first times Max has discussed this in public!

The third terrifying volume in the award-winning anthology series of original queer horror.Like the final girl in a slasher film, the LGBTQIA community knows first-hand what it's like to fight for its survival. Beaten and bloodied after an extended chase scene through modern-day politics and the courts, we think we've triumphed and conquered our oppressors. We breathe a little easier knowing our rainbow is ascending in the distance. But—like the indestructible slasher villain—our enemies rise up again and again, as if on a looping third-act jump scare. It's a seemingly never-ending return to battle as the pendulum of progress swings back.In this third volume of the award-winning anthology series, the darkest minds from both the LGBT+ and horror literary communities join forces to bring readers an all-new collection of terrifying tales from that line on the horizon where the dark rainbow rises.Stories by Chad Helder, Hailey Piper, Mathew L. The 24 entries comprise a sophisticated collection of topnotch tales of terror, most of which could appear in any fright anthology without qualification and suggest the maturing of ‘gay horror' into a viable and solid genre indeed.”—Fangoria MagazinePraise for Unspeakable Horror 2: Abominations of Desire: “If Unspeakable Horror: From the Shadowsof the Closet helped to establish speculative fiction as a mature and important genre for queer fiction when it was published about a decade ago, then Unspeakable Horror 2: Abominations of Desire takes it to new heights and creates an expectation of excellence. Tightly written and edited, free of tropes and mundane writing, these stories propel the queer horror genre to scare us while making a statement about our world and accomplish it with the best of writing possible.”—Lambda Literary ReviewProudly represented by Crystal Lake Publishing—Tales from the Darkest Depths.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. On this episode of Analog Smile, Sherry speaks with Michael Ferentino from Love In Reverse, Bedtime For Robots, and many other projects. In the mid 90s, Michael Ferentino and Andres Karu, the New York/New Jersey based dark electronic art rock duo known as DOG, performed and gained an impressive following in some of the most iconic NY and NJ clubs including CBGB, the Bitter End, the Stone Pony and the Limelight. DOG quickly evolved into the 3-piece indie/art rock/space rock band Love in Reverse and signed with Jon and Marsha Zazula's Crazed Management (former owners of Megaforce Records). That led the band to a lucrative deal with Warner/Reprise Records. Love in Reverse recorded three critically acclaimed albums with Warner/Reprise (two with legendary producer Russ Titelman and one mixed by Grammy Award Winner, Jason Corsaro and co produced by NIN producer, John Fryer). In 1996 and 1997, they toured with the likes of Gravity Kills, Stabbing Westward, Republica, and the Cult's Ian Astbury. They also played several radio festivals performing with artists ranging from the Spin Doctors and Tonic to The Deftones and Joan Jett. The band's video for “I'm a Contradiction” was featured on MTV's 120 minutes and the video for “Blueprint for a Possible Song” was included on the sampler DVD for Sony's first commercially available DVD player. Love in Reverse was featured with Peter Frampton on ABC. After three albums with Warner/Reprise, Love in Reverse disbanded and evolved once more into the Amazing Meet Project, a band which has been described by Matt Pinfield of MTVs 120 Minutes as “putting the alternative in alternative rock!” During this period, Ferentino and Karu scored the Kevin Smith produced thriller “A Better Place,” a realistically violent film that has become an underground cult classic. Their music was also featured in “Time of Your Life,” the “Party of Five” television spin-off starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and multiple MTV specials. Among a number of positive media articles featuring the band, Rolling Stone named Love in Reverse as one of 6 new promising bands of 1996. Over the next few years, Ferentino and Karu experimented with a myriad of projects, including the noisy lo-fi electronic garage band, Corduroy Poo-Poo, the spoken word experiment, Speak the Worms, the Diablo Project with Jai Diablo from Interscope Records sludge rock/stoner metal band, Dragpipe, and the electronic ambient/experimental outfit, Bedtime for Robots. In 2002, they teamed up with The Wonder Stuff front-man Miles Hunt for a collaboration dubbed the Miles Hunt Club. Karu also went on to become drummer and producer for the Wonder Stuff in the mid ‘00s while Dave Halpern played drums for multiple artists including the Bee Gees. Ferentino continued with Bedtime for Robots, releasing several acclaimed albums and tracks throughout the 2010s and into the 2020s. Bedtime for Robots were featured in Fangoria Magazine and their music has been consistently featured on DOOMED Radio, Soma FM and multiple worldwide underground Internet radio shows. In 2020, during the initial lockdown of the Coronavirus pandemic, Ferentino, Karu and Halpern put finishing touches on an album they had been secretly working on for the past couple of years and self-released the reformed Love in Reverse album, I'm an Illusion, which brought them to the attention of Ferentino's childhood friend and owner of Dada Drumming Records, an independent label from Texas which specialized in noise, sludge rock and stoner metal. Looking to expand the horizons of the label, Dada Drumming signed the band, now focusing on a return to their guitar-driven indie art rock sound. In 2021, the band put the finishing touches on their newly recorded and strongest album to date, Fake It. Sherry and Michael chat about Love In Reverse, Bedtime For Robots, the art of making music videos on a budget, and much more! Check out Love In Reverse on Facebook for more information.

The Amazing Jeremy Sumrall of First Day of Winter Films Joins us for a conversation that will blow your mind around Sex, sexuality and gender plus how graphic and exploitative horror and thiller films are a source of pleasure and a healthy outlet of expression!!  Jeremy Sumrall: Self-professed “Texploitation Flickmaker” Jeremy Sumrall has worked in independent film since 2007, when he was cast as the hulking masked killer known as "The Beast" in the award-winning slasher flick SWEATSHOP, which made him fall in love with the nuts-and-bolts of filmmaking. In 2013, Jeremy caught the eye of FANGORIA MAGAZINE with a provocative tribute to 80s slasher flicks in the form of a poster (created by infamous horror artist Marc Schoenbach) for a then-unrealized movie called THE PICKAXE MURDERS PART III: THE FINAL CHAPTER which was scripted as a sequel to a movie that never existed. With the sudden interest in his work, Jeremy completed the script and over the course of the next year, several genre stalwarts would sign onto the project. Even radio legend Howard Stern would give it a nod, as Stern Show employee Sal Governale was cast as a sleazy gas station owner. The love-letter to 80s slasher films was eventually released under the simplified name PICKAXE in 2019 from Wild Eye Releasing and subsequently enjoyed a lengthy stay near the top of Amazon's Best Selling Horror DVDs, reaching as high as #18. He is currently in pre-production on an action-exploitation flick called HELLFIRE, which recently concluded a successful fundraising campaign via Indiegogo (it's still IN DEMAND, which means you can still donate and get cool perks here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/hellfire-grindhouse-action-film#/), and production starts in January. He has assembled an amazing cast of indie stalwarts, including scream queen legend Brinke Stevens. In addition to filmmaking, Jeremy's passions include hockey, wrestling, fitness (he's dropped 100 lbs thanks to eating healthy and DDPY) and of course, polyamory. Jeremy is an advocate for different relationship styles, and practices solo polyamory with his two current amazing partners. On episode 121 of SOMEWHERE IN THE SKIES, Ryan is joined once again by independent filmmaker, Christopher Garetano, to talk all about his new television series, Strange World. Garetano, whose award-winning film, Montauk Chronicles, inspired the hit show Stranger Things, has spent a lifetime searching for the truth behind some of America’s most unusual stories. Now, he begins a boots-on-the-ground investigation into the legends, mysteries and first-person accounts that fuel this country’s creepiest conspiracy theories and unexplained occurrences in the new Travel Channel series, Strange World. Over the course of eight hour-long episodes, Garetano will immerse himself in a world of the weird and bizarre, exploring everything from the alleged curse of James Dean’s death car, Little Bastard, to the extraordinary and unexplained disappearances on California’s Mount Shasta, to the legend of Polybius, a 1980’s arcade game supposedly created as a mind-control experiment gone amuck. Garetano runs us through the premiere episode concerning his ongoing investigation into Camp Hero and the Montauk Project, and then he gives us the inside scoop on some of the compelling episodes that will follow. Guest Bio: Christopher Garetano produced and directed several award-winning films, including the 2005 film, “Horror Business,” and the 2015 docudrama, “Montauk Chronicles,” which received awards for best documentary at the 2015 Philip K. Dick Film Festival and best picture at the Celludroid Film Festival. Garetano is the creator of the comic strip and anticipated graphic novel, “South Texas Blues,” originally published in Fangoria Magazine in 2012. In 2016, Garatano collaborated with Texas Crew Productions and HISTORY as an executive producer, host and director of re-creations on the television movie, “The Dark Files.” Garetano is also currently directing an episode of a new thriller anthology series with DIGA STUDIOS titled, “Fifty States of Fear.” Now, Garetano is passionately diving into his new dream project – “Strange World,” an investigative docu-series on Travel Channel. Garetano is a film graduate of the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. On this episode of NIGHTMARE UNIVERSITY, Dr. Rebekah McKendry gives us a secular lesson on Nunsploitation! Partly based on an article she wrote for FANGORIA Magazine 10 years ago, this dissertation explores this niche sub-genre in fascinating depth. Nothing unusual about decades-long film franchises and their characters - from SHERLOCK HOLMES and ZORRO, to SUPERMAN, JAMES BOND and more. What is rare however is to have one actor portray a single character over those decades. And as both performer and character matures and changes physically, emotionally and otherwise, we as the audience also mature and change with them. To be introduced as a child to a Han Solo, Rocky Balboa or Mr. Spock by one's parent, then as a parent to take your children to a new film featuring that performer and character - often on screen with their children!, is an emotionally unique cinematic experience - the kind of which, hey, admit it, in recent films such as THE FORCE AWAKENS and CREED has been responsible for more than a few eye-watering responses. Craig and Jim get personal in this one, diving into and dissecting five beloved cinematic icons (well, four individuals and one couple) - each portrayed by the same actor or actress over 25 - 50 years, relating their initial reactions as children through to their (at times surprising) interpretation / opinions of them today. After receiving a BA in Film and Psychology from Emerson College in 2002, and a certificate in screenwriting from the same school in 2003, Solet went to work collaborating on a feature length script with his long time mentor, Eli (Cabin Fever/ Hostel) Roth, while continuing to write and direct his own material. Solet's 2005 short, Means to an End, was awarded, "Best Short Horror Film" from the genre's number one authority, "Fangoria Magazine," receiving distribution on Fangoria's prestigious "Blood Drive 2" DVD. Means to an End also won "Best Short Film" and the "Audience Choice Award" at the 2005 Rhode Island International Horror Festival, and "Best Extreme Horror Film" at the 2005 Dragon Con International Film Festival. Solet's latest short film, Grace, has already won "Best Short Film" at the 2006 Rhode Island Horror Festival, the "Peer's Choice Award" at Dragon Con, 2006, and has recently become the first independent film to screen on Fangoria TV.Solet has received equal praise for his work as a screenwriter. His body-horror script, Repeater, came in Second Place in Hollywood's First Glance Film Festival, was a Quarter Finalist in the 2006 Screenwriting Expo, and a Finalist in New York's VisionFest 2006 Screenwriting Contest. His feature length thriller Heartland won Third Place at VisionFest 2005, was a Quarter Finalist in the 2005 Horror Screenplay Contest, finished in the top 25% at the 2006 Screenwriting Expo, and was a Quarter Finalist at the 2006 American Screenwriter's Association Contest. Eli Roth has said Solet's work, "Makes Cabin Fever look like a Disney movie…."Paul is currently in post-production on the feature length version of Grace, from which the much-lauded short film was distilled. He still works and lives - and lives to work - in Los Angeles, CA, ever determined to do his part in raising the bar in today's genre cinema.
