Australia has been a global outlier in the current easing cycle as most developed world central banks, including the Federal Reserve, have already cut substantially. The Fed is due to announce the outcome of its meeting later today and is expected to stand pat. Stephen Fry has upset the ruddy faced members of the MCC; it has left Giles awkwardly fiddling with his box as he balances his desire to join the MCC with his admiration for Mr Fry.No such trouble with Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak who come in for equal disdain. Was it a debate or a barrister and a banker meeting at the school gates? Or a special episode of Numberwang…?The debate slid to one side Esther and Giles consider a throbbing question; What are the most annoying ‘corporate speak' phrases? Low hanging fruit, blue sky thinking…? Whichever it is, Giles and Esther are about to smut them up for you.Esther thinks Giles has a big one, Giles thinks it is actually quite small, certainly not as big as Fergie's. Thank goodness the late Queen Elizabeth insisted Fergie parade hers in public…After all the saucy talk Esther needs a stiff drink…but not on a plane. Finally, its back to the election as Rishi Sunak enlists Tom Cruise into his campaign team… Hosted on Acast. It's a matter of honor (but not "A Matter of Honor" that's episode 143) this week as we begin our deep dive into the murky waters of Klingon politics. Minh kicks things off with a Klingons/Cling-Wrap joke and frankly things don't get any better from there. Worf and Kurn inspire the gang to share their stories of brothers fighting, except for lonely child Matt, who can't relate. Erin has to choose her ride or die cha'DIches. Over in Correction Corner, we ponder how many people can fit inside Jabba the Hutt. And Jake may not remember Numberwang, but he'll tell you all you need to know about siphonophores! From our very own version of Numberwang, to utilitarianism, the precautionary principle, the Plague of Athens 430 BC, to Gartner’s latest tech trends, the SmallDataForum serves up another mixed bag of goodies and smarties. I kick off by offering a selection of ciphers for our very own SmallDataForum Numberwang from 1 (Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s silly argument that 0.1 is “a real rise”), to 6 (the number of episodes of Adam Curtis’s latest take on the dark forces at play in our modern world), to 10 (the maximum prison sentence in the UK Government’s culture war inspired Crime Bill for violating a statue, which according to Labour’s David Lammy “makes protecting statues more important that punishing rape”), and related to 118 vs 1, (the number of women killed last year where a man was charged or convicted vs ‘statues killed’, as per the unrivalled Marina Hyde) 10 in 21 (the Top Ten data and analytics tech trends in 2021 according to Gartner) to 40 vs 12 (percentage of population COVID vaccinated in the UK vs EU average) 25,000 (excess UK COVID deaths due to the delayed winter lockdown, according to a new report) and last but not least, $450m (the sum Cision paid for Brighton based social analytics firm Brandwatch, leaving the three of us a bit speechless, and NOT AT ALL ENVIOUS of founder CEO Giles Palmer…) Continue reading -> https://www.smalldataforum.com/

From Wolverhampton to the top of the podium in Sydney - via a handful of Commonwealth titles and records, a pair of World silvers, a couple of take-off leg changes, and the opportunity to compete against some of the greatest multi-eventers to have ever donned a pair of spikes - Denise Lewis has some cracking stories to tell.So many, in fact, that she spoke with Bayo for two hours for this interview special, and we made the decision at Backstraight HQ to split their conversation into two instalments. Two episodes, spanning five decades, from the one and only seven-event superstar, Denise. And that's Numberwang. She discusses her early drive and junior career, her breakthrough at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, missing out on SPOTY to Michael Owen, and a whole lot more besides. Don't worry: she's *just* as honest, humorous, and insightful as she is in her current role as an analyst, and we know you'll love the listen. Thanks for all the wonderful questions you submitted ahead of time, and for tuning in.Serving suggestion? This months podcast has us focus on the Big Finish releases for the month of July. However, since we only got through the first 2 stories from Survivors Box Set 1, we finished the third and fourth reviews on this podcast. I take a brief moment to discuss my disappointments I have with the Pathfinders range. Briefly look at the Counter-Measures Box Set 3 release, until we look at the 4ith Doctor Adventure story "The Abandoned" written by Nigel Fairs and Louise Jameson, and the spoof take I had due to the confusion I found with the first part of this story (perhaps I used the oddity that is Number Wang too much in my spoof, but hey, what ever). I finish off be looking at the four short story main range release "Breaking Bubbles and Other Stories."

Kevin and Kornflake celebrate six months of Flopcasting by wandering from one silly topic to the next... but they keep coming back to Kenny Rogers. Also: Kornflake wins a contest at the Red Arrow Diner, recalls her college radio days, looks for lobsters on Twitter, stockpiles an emergency supply of bacon, and tries to explain "Numberwang" (which is impossible). Meanwhile Kevin meets one of his comedy heroes (it's Chris Elliott, and shut up), and attends a James Bond-themed concert by Niki Luparelli and the Gold Diggers. Then we end the show with some Chickens in the News! Now it's time to prepare for the Flopcast's next six months. Friends, we have a lot more unimportant work to do.
