WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS EPISODE? We elaborate on two events from the last episode. Jesus comes to a wedding and performs a miracle there. What does that mean for you and me? Then, Jesus goes to the Temple in Jerusalem and purges it of the merchants within. What does that mean? How do these events show the same side of Jesus? SCRIPTURES USED IN THIS EPISODE: John 2 Psalm 69:9 2 Kings 19:30-31; Isaiah 37 Isaiah 58:6-8 Isaiah 59:15-18 Isaiah 9:6-7 SCRIPTURES NOT USED IN THIS EPISODE (BUT IMPORTANT FOR UNDERSTANDING)! In my explanation of the image of wine and blood in the story of the miracle of water being turned into wine, I mentioned that wine and blood were images used throughout the New Testament. Here are scriptures which illustrate that connection: Hebrews 10:21-22 1 Peter 1:2 1 Peter 1:18-19 Ephesians 2:12-14 Colossians 1:20 Hebrews 9:11-12 JESUS STORIES MERCH: Who doesn't like a nice mug for coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Are you ready to fasten your seatbelts and embark on a journey where we tackle the real essence of safety, its influence on progress, and the way it shapes the notion of justice? Get set to traverse the intriguing world of football, examine the role of safety in the professional success of Deion Sanders, and chuckle over the quirky title of the Tight End position. We also meander into the realms of pop culture, reminiscing about the Hanson family, hitting the high notes with K-Pop, and journeying through historical events like the fall of the Berlin Wall.Moving away from the hustle and bustle of pop culture, we shift gears to discuss safety's profound impact on liberation. We analyze the revolutionary role of the safety bicycle in propelling the women's movement. From the lurking dangers of horses and penny farthings to the exhilarating velocity of different bicycles, we probe how enhancing safety in society liberates individuals and fosters economic growth. We also delve into the implications of the absence of universal healthcare, childcare, and elderly care on people's freedoms and choices. On a personal note, our conversation veers towards our fencing skills and the role of personal safety in curbing freedom. In contrast, we joke about the perils of having a king and mull over the idea of the best defense being a good offense. Treading on serious ground, we reflect upon the history of racial injustice in America, highlighting the power of boycotts and direct action. Drawing upon the civil rights movement and the bus boycott in Birmingham, Alabama, we ponder over how safety and security deficits hinder liberation. But fear not, we also lighten the mood with a spirited debate on the best Star Wars movie and a fun comparison between the Cars and Godfather movie franchises.Help these new solutions spread by ... Once police were able to determine that the girl had been a victim of a violent crime, they would quickly arrest two teenage boys in connection to the crime. Despite the lack of any physical evidence, the two boys would be charged with murder and sit for trial. Where these two boys guilty of murder, or were they two additional victims of a horrific crime? This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5894684/advertisement
Despite rapid environmental change, the foremost approach to ecological restoration is to find the elusive, historically-appropriate reference ecosystem as the target of ecosystem recovery. But, the emergence of novel ecosystems beckons new ecological science and political ecology as surprising species' relationships flourish out of dramatic anthropogenic change. There has been (maybe there still is) a debate within ecological restoration about both the existence of and how to restore ecosystems that some people think have crossed thresholds with no historical analog. Ecosystems that have ‘tipped' or exhibit ‘new' nature challenge our training and ecological theories while eliciting perspectives on what we value and respect, such as biodiversity and access. Mel PIneda-Pinto explores nature-based solutions, with a particular focus on issues of justice in ecosystems often overlooked and found in interstitial spaces, sometimes characterized as ruderal, wild, wastelands or unintentional. She is currently working as a postdoctoral research fellow at Trinity College Dublin on the project NovelEco in which they are co-designing an online citizen science tool to better understand novel ecosystems in cities. Mel has experience in social research methods, inter-transdisciplinary collaboration, systems thinking and exploring human-nonhuman nature interactions. Previous architectural and planning experience in the industry and not-for-profit sectors gave her skills in design, project management, stakeholder engagement, and technical abilities. Her research interests include urban ecological sustainability, urban ecology, social-ecological-technical systems, environmental and ecological justice, transformative capacity, sustainability, climate and just transitions, environmental and multispecies planning/design. Nurses Out Loud with Nurse Michele, RN – Too many have buried their loved ones over the last two years. They've been grieving the loss of those they love, but now it's time to take action, and as Florence Nightingale reminds us, ‘To take actions that bring results.' The majority of the populace does not realize that something unjust very likely happened to their deceased family members...
Last year, the Department of Interior began investigating the traumatic legacy of Indian boarding schools. Now comes the work of understanding their impact and what justice could look like. Editor's Note: For listeners who might be sensitive, this story contains subject material that relates to the erasure of communities through systematic means – and while not explicitly featuring children, does include how they navigated traumas that might still be very real for some.

Tragedy struck for two families when Ann Grosmaire was shot by her fiancé, Conor McBride. In the wake of her death, Ann's parents were moved to forgiveness through their Catholic faith. All harm — and especially a death like this — impacts more than just the victim alone. The Grosmaires, McBrides, and their whole community lost two cherished young adults the day Ann was shot. Justice would not be found without including each of these involved parties in a healing process. In this episode, Kate and Deacon Andy Grosmaire, Julie and Michael McBride, and their facilitator sujatha baliga share the story of their restorative justice circle that shaped Conor's sentencing. Their testimony is witness to the possibilities of a justice centered in restoring relationships and creating opportunities for healing. Kate tells this full story in her book, https://www.christianbook.com/forgiving-daughters-killer-faith-unexpected-grace/kate-grosmaire/9780718091477/pd/091477 (Forgiving My Daughter's Killer: A True Story of Loss, Faith, and Unexpected Grace.)

Do you ever feel like true crime stories border on or even totally cross over into exploitation? It's a fine line sometimes, and I try to always focus my telling of these stories as service. I want everyone listening to learn things they didn't know so they can be safer, they can keep their loved ones safer, and they can then pay it forward by serving others to help survivors heal with justice and keep our communities safer. Today I want to share with you a case that's been cold for over 25 years now. Jack Robinson was murdered in broad daylight on August 17th, 1996, in Columbia, South Carolina. I'm truly privileged to be joined today by Jack's only child, Tammy Downs. Let's see if we can get someone to come forward with information about Jack's death to help Tammy see some justice for her dad. I know I've spoken about this verse before, but it is so relevant to today's case that I want to go over it again. It's Leviticus 5:1, and I like the way The Message translation phrases it: “If you sin by not stepping up and offering yourself as a witness to something you've heard or seen in cases of wrongdoing, you'll be held responsible." That's clear and to the point. If we know something, we are supposed to tell it to people in authority. If you're scared, there are anonymous tip lines. Or send me a message and I'll pass your information on. But the absolute best thing to do is to go to the police in person so they can ask you some follow up questions. You may know important information you didn't realize was important! So for those of us who don't know anything - about unsolved crimes that is - our practical action step today is super easy. Just share this episode with your friends and encourage them to do the same. The more people who hear this, the greater chance we will reach someone who holds the key to solve Jack's murder and give him and Tammy some measure of justice. If you liked this episode, be sure to check out some earlier ones. I've had so many amazing guests who gave me fantastic information you won't want to miss. You can also help someone else begin their journey as a different kind of PI - a person of impact, when you share the episode, and when you subscribe, give me a five-star rating and a nice review. If you have any information on the murder of Jack Robinson, you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC (274-6372), or Lt. Kevin Eisenhower at 1-803-576-3073. While the family wanted to dismiss or downplay the abuse, Brooke knew she needed to seek justice for her children. Through the Utah Children’s Justice Center Program, she was able to find a safe place to seek legal justice and therapeutic healing. Now she continues to volunteer with the Children’s Justice Center and is outspoken about preventing child abuse, encouraging conversations about your body and consent, and the courage it can take to separate yourself from abusers. This week's story occurred in Littlefield, Arizona in 2018. Jerry and Susan McFalls, both 62, were retired and owned a home in West Jordan, Utah and a second home in Littlefield, Arizona. Family said they often travelled between homes. Before they went missing in January 2018, they told family they were leaving Littlefield and returning home to West Jordan. But they never made it back home. The local sheriff's office served a search warrant and visited the Littlefield home to find out what happened to the missing elderly couple. The house was unlocked and their two dogs were inside with no food or water. Deputies found a purse, wallet and cellphone left on the kitchen table. It was as if they had just both vanished. There was a witness who saw the couple climb into an SUV that has never been located. On October 18, 2018, the remains of two unidentified people were located in the desert near the Virgin River Gorge in Arizona. Authorities identified the human remains as Jerry and Susan McFalls, a West Jordan couple who went missing over three years ago. The Mohave County sheriff's office announced someone had murdered the couple. For this episode, I spoke to Bob Hutchinson, the nephew of Jerry and Susan McFalls who shares his thoughts on Jerry and Susan's unsolved homicides. In those moments, your willingness to survive, fight back, and come out on the other side unscathed is critical. But, when the odds are stacked against you in the form of corruption that leads to being wrongly convicted and railroaded into a life sentence in prison, it takes an immense amount of resilience and fortitude to strategically plan a way through a broken unjust system. Isaac Wright, Jr. has experienced this first hand after 7 years imprisoned and 9 additional years under investigation after passing the New Jersey State Bar exam. Isaac speaks to patience, calculated moves, and what it takes to turn anger and bitterness into usable skills that have a real impact. Wright was convicted in 1991 after a five-week trial by a 12-person jury of 10 charges involving the sale of cocaine and sentenced to life in prison, but his conviction was overturned in 1997 after litigation brought by him and his lawyer, on the basis that police concealed evidence. This week we focus on a murder from December 1993 that occurred literally less than a five-minute drive from the Homestead Studios – although long before Melissa and Producer Mark moved there. The victim was a beautiful and accomplished 29 year-old martial arts instructor and black belt named Veronica Estrada, who left the studio where she was an instructor and, having had an argument with her boyfriend, decided to walk home instead of having him pick her up. The next morning, after no one had heard from Veronica, the owner of the studio, Ken Lewis, and another instructor at the studio named Stuart Milburn, began walking the street that Veronica would have traveled, and eventually, Lewis spotted the young woman’s body off the side of the road and had Milburn run to a business across the street to call police. Both Lewis and the police suspected strange things about Stuart Milburn from the very beginning – but wait – we’ll let the man who was there tell you the story himself – because Ken Lewis is Melissa’s guest this week! Take a listen as Ken tells Melissa about the early days of the case, the arrest and prosecution of Stuart Milburn – and how, after two mistrials that have resulted in Stuart Milburn’ s continued freedom to this day - even the trial judge told prosecutors that Milburn is probably guilty, they shouldn’t bring a third trial unless better evidence emerges. That’s where YOU come in, Tip-Sters. After listening to Ken Lewis’ firsthand account of the events surrounding Veronica Estrada’s murder, maybe something will spark in YOUR memory that could help solve the case. If that happens, please call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.

Bullying is on the rise in schools and online. If you or your kids were ever bullied, you know that it leaves lasting psychological scars on kids who are bullied-if not physical ones. So who's to blame? Parents run into apathy, helplessness, retaliation and more if they try to get the school to fix the problem. Yet, they rarely ask themselves if they are ultimately responsible for their child's bad behavior. Today's guest, Mark Simon, is now a successful entertainment industry veteran, but when he was a teen, he was terrorized by a group of boys who brutally bullied and physically attacked him and his family. His memoir-ATTACKED! Bullied: Surviving Terror and Finding Justice- tells the story of how he fought back in court and became the first person in the country to successfully use a law holding parents legally responsible for the hurtful actions of their kids. It is a cautionary tale for all families. Find out what makes a bully and what makes families responsible for their acts.
