The Wellington Phoenix women's inaugural captain Lily Alfeld became a cult figure off the field when a back injury ended her playing days prematurely. Alfeld was the first ever signing for the team five years ago, but for the past three years she's been working for the club with community engagement. Aged just fifteen, Ben attended the Army's selection weekend for potential officers and subsequently embarked on six gruelling years of training and assessment to fulfil my childhood dream.After graduating from the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Ben completed two tours of duty in Iraq as a Captain in the British Army. It's the end of an era for the St. Louis Blues. The 2019 Stanley Cup is firmly in the past as the team has decided to move on from two important pieces in less than a week. They have traded Vladimir Tarasenko to the New York Rangers and Captain Ryan O'Reilly to the Toronto Maple Leafs. It signaled that they are throwing in the towel for the season and going to re-tool the team for the future. He is a Medical Doctor, Former Captain of the Australian Hockey Team and the Western Australian State Hockey Team and Cricket Team, having played hockey for Australia for a record 17 years and first-class cricket for nearly a decade. He was the National Coach of the Australian Women's Hockey Team from 1993 to 2000 and between 2009 and 2014, he coached the Men's team. In four World Cups and three Olympic Games as coach of Australia, Charlesworth's teams won Gold on 6 occasions and once won bronze. Linda Carman and her son, Nathan, set out on a night fishing trip. They don't return. A week later, Nathan Carman is found in an inflatable life raft, but his mother is nowhere to be found. Now police say Carman killed his mother and sank the boat intentionally for a $7,000,000 inheritance. Carman is accused of enlarging holes in the boat, "Chicken Pox," to ensue it sank. The boat's insurer National Liability and Fire Insurance Co., asked a court to deny any insurance claim on the boat following an investigation that revealed Nathan compromised it before the accident. The insurer's report states that in "removing his boat's trim tabs hours before departing on its final voyage, Carman not only failed to properly seal four thruhull holes he thereby opened at the transom's waterline, but two recent depositions establish Carman enlarged those four holes.” This is not the first time Carmen has been eyed for a murder of a family member: He was reportedly named a person of interest in the 2014 shooting death of his wealthy grandfather, John Chakalos. Warrants say that Carman was the last person to see his grandfather alive before the 87-year-old man was found shot to death in his Windsor, Connecticut, home. Nathan reportedly purchased a gun that was the same caliber as the weapon that killed his grandfather, a multimillionaire developer, and declined to let police know this during questioning. My guest today is a former Captain of Boston University's Men's Track & Field, who is now living his best life in Colorado and finding what he loves outside of athletics. He's also one of my favorite people on this planet, who I met on the first day of our summer internship. He holds a special place in my heart, and I hope one day everyone gets a chance to meet him (or someone like him)! We cover so much ground in this episode. We talk about how he dealt with injury both mentally and physically in high school, how athlete identity can impact you negatively, what it was like transferring to another college just two miles down the road, and how it feels being an LGBTQ+ athlete and the challenges it can pose.
