The discussion is honest, real, and packed with supportive insights for anyone on their own parenthood journey. The episode highlights the emotional aftermath of Dani's first pregnancy, including the life-changing impact of her son's tragic loss and her journey through grief, sobriety, and rediscovering her sense of purpose as a mother. Dani describes how early parenting trends and online information influenced her choices—she candidly discusses how she embraced “all-natural” parenting, even using products later shown to be unsafe, and how she has since shifted to an evidence-based approach. Hilary and Dani emphasize that unplanned pregnancies are far more common than most people believe, and that being surprised by pregnancy doesn't make anyone less of a mom. Dani details her experience with home insemination using donor sperm as a cost-effective and empowering option for single women or couples with fertility challenges, demystifying and normalizing this choice. The conversation explores the stigma, criticism, and unsolicited advice Dani encountered online and in real life regarding her non-traditional paths to motherhood. Dani shares practical tips for others considering home insemination, including financial readiness, emotional support, and building a “village” before taking that step. The difficulties of navigating healthcare, especially when you're high risk or dissatisfied with your provider, are explored—Dani discusses real challenges in switching OBs, accessing support, and advocating for yourself during pregnancy. Dani and Hilary discuss the limitations—and some dangerous pitfalls—of using AI and online sources for pregnancy advice, and stress the value of trustworthy, evidence-based resources. Throughout the episode, the importance of compassion from healthcare providers, honest conversations, and finding the right support network for your unique pregnancy and parenting journey shines through. In this episode of Men of Influence, host Tim Holloway welcomes David Good, who shares his transformative journey through loss, grief, and social challenges to become a global connector of people. Diagnosed with Asperger's last year, David reflects on overcoming severe bullying, a career-ending car accident, and treatment-resistant depression following family losses in 2010. Hitting rock bottom in 2011, he found resilience through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), which helped him rebuild his life and discover a purpose in connecting others. From founding West Michigan Geeks to launching 47 global meetup chapters during the COVID lockdown, David's story culminated in being recognized as a Point of Light by the George H.W. Bush Points of Light organization.David emphasizes building psychological resilience by identifying a “why” stronger than pain, using mindfulness and grounding techniques to manage intense emotions, and celebrating small wins to counter negative thinking. He shares his “Friend Magnet Instant Connection Formula,” which uses feel-good questions and active listening to build rapport quickly. For men struggling with isolation or social anxiety, David advocates starting small by attending local meetups, embracing discomfort, and listening actively to foster meaningful connections. His mission now focuses on teaching soft skills to IT workers, helping them communicate effectively and manage emotions to thrive in professional and personal settings.Key Takeaways:Resilience Through Purpose: Find a “why” bigger than your pain to push through adversity, using tools like ACT for mindfulness and IFS to address subconscious barriers.Connection Over Isolation: Combat loneliness by attending small local events, starting with simple interactions, and using active listening to build relationships.Friend Magnet Formula: Ask open-ended, feel-good questions and listen actively to create positive emotional associations and foster quick connections.Celebrate Small Wins: Counter negative thinking by acknowledging every small victory, as supportive relationships are key to longevity and resilience.Actionable Step: Join a local meetup or Facebook group event with 20 or fewer people, say hi to the organizer, and practice asking one feel-good question like, “What have you been doing for fun lately?”“Your purpose will find you if you do the work. Celebrate every small win to combat negativity and build resilience.” - David GoodLearn more about Tim through the following links:FacebookPodcasting group

The Lies We've Been Told About Grief Episode Description: In this eye-opening episode of Healing Starts with the Heart, grief specialist Sharon Brubaker confronts the damaging lies we've all been told about grief. From childhood, we are handed false beliefs like: • “Don't feel bad” • “Be strong” • “Time will heal” • “You should get over it” Sharon dives deep into how these messages have distorted our understanding of grief and often cause us to suppress or deny the pain we're carrying. She shares her own personal experience with the grief that no one warned her about, and how unlearning these toxic myths led her on a path of true healing. If you've ever felt like your grief didn't fit into the tidy boxes society sets for it, this episode is a must-listen. Sharon invites you to release the shame and guilt tied to these lies, offering a new, empowering perspective on what it truly means to grieve and heal. Key Points Discussed: The Lies We've Been Taught About Grief Why pretending to be “strong” and “moving on” can actually hold us back from healing. How Grief Should Really Be Handled Understanding grief as a personal journey that requires space, time, and the willingness to feel deeply. The Cost of Suppressing Grief How ignoring your grief can lead to long-term emotional pain, and why it's crucial to face it head-on. Grief as a Journey, Not a Destination Grief doesn't follow a timeline, and healing doesn't mean you “get over it.” It means you learn to live with it. Journal Questions for Reflection: What lies about grief have you been told or have believed? How do you feel when others tell you to “move on” or “be strong”? What would it look like if you gave yourself permission to grieve openly and without judgment? Join the Journey: Grief doesn't follow a simple, linear path, but Sharon is here to help you navigate it with compassion.
