Hello, Hello, Hello! In this new (but considerably delayed) episode, we talk about two films that approach the subject of talking differently -- "I Want to Talk" and "Meiyazhagan." 'I Want to Talk,' directed by Shoojit Sircar and starring Abhishek Bachchan, continues the director's trend to push his films to the brink of becoming anti-dramas. C Prem Kumar's 'Meiyazhagan,' on the other hand, is a classic tear-jerker. The new Tamizh film, starring a sentimental Arvind Swamy and an effervescent Karthi, indulges in nostalgia and episodic storytelling to engage its audiences. Check out the episode to know what we thought of these drastically different approaches to capturing conversation (or the lack of it) in cinema. We are returning after a while but with a biggie! Director and cinematographer C Prem Kumar joins us to talk about his latest film Meiyazhagan starring Karthi, Arvind Swamy, Sri Divya and others. The film has been warmly received by the audiences and is a breath of fresh air for Tamil cinema. Films with strong writing, a slice-of-life genre with male characters written as gentle and vulnerable have become rare. There is such a homogeneity of genre dominated by action, masala and violence that a Meiyazhagan deserves to be celebrated not just for how good it is but also for the mere fact that it exists. Prem Kumar joins Aditya and Subha Rao to talk about the writing decisions, what was cut from the opening scene, music and lyrics, the characters of Arul and Mei, the trimming decisions by distributors and the importance of the small and mid budget film, and more. Listen on. Edited by Deepauk.

In today's episode of Category Visionaries, we speak with Prem Kumar, CEO of Humanly.io, a recruiting tech platform that's raised over $5.5 Million in funding, about why hiring shouldn't have to be hassle for those on either side of process, and how working towards having a real conversation can ultimately deliver the right results for your company over the long term. With an integrated AI interface and highly developed feedback system to allow more detailed tracking of the entire hiring funnel, Humanly.io is helping to build a better experience for candidates and take the pressure off of your HR division to deal with a deluge of potential applications. We also spoke about what drove Prem to leave behind a stable position at Microsoft for the uncertainty of the startup sector, how Humanly benefits from the current AI boom but why it plans to be around for the long term, and why, at the end of the day, nothing's really changed, and it's still customer context that really matters when making it in a competitive marketplace. Topics Discussed: Prem's career at Microsoft, and why his entrepreneurial tendencies took him to the tech startup space Why inadequate hiring is a structural issue, and why there's no reason to blame your teams for being overwhelmed How one-sided digitalization has left the humans in HR to deal with a deluge of potential candidates, a task well beyond their capacity most of the time How AI can fill critical capacity shortfalls in the hiring process, and why a machine learning solution delivers consistently better feedback from applicants Why a better hiring systems leads to higher-quality outcomes for your enterprise, and more ethical interactions with potential candidates Why Prem appreciates the boost of today's AI chat hype, but how he plans to build Humanly.io into a business with staying power by relying on the context they can provide to customers Favorite book: The Hard Thing About Hard Things: Building a Business When There Are No Easy Answers

This week we welcome Prem Kumar to the podcast. Before co-founding Humanly, an Y Combinator-accelerated startup focused on improving the efficiency of candidate screening, scheduling, and engagement at scale, Prem spent ten tears at Microsoft, where he was responsible for delivery and operations of all software initiatives for the organization's HR portal. He also served as Director of Product at TINYpulse, an employee survey and engagement platform.Topics include: the meaning of “accessible for all” with regard to HR tools and tech, the prevalence of male-gendered words in job descriptions, why years of experience often isn't predictive of an employee's success, how technology can reduce our reliance on resumes as screening shortcuts, how an organization's chosen mode of interviewing candidates (e.g., video, phone, chat) can introduce biases against candidates with certain personality types or communication styles, the importance of using candidate feedback to improve hiring team outreach and communication, and differing approaches to measuring employee impact or “employee lifetime value.”
