Here's a little secret: asking for help isn't a sign of weakness, but a catalyst that propels us towards our goals and dreams. The truth is, asking for help isn't always easy, it's something I have grappled with at times. But let me share with you how this simple act of asking for help transformed a live event at the recent International Festival of Arts and Ideas into a Reinvention Rebels podcast episode that can inspire your reinvention journey. It all started with a technical challenge for which I had no answer, but with the guidance of my amazing team, we made it happen. The result? A dynamic conversation with two inspiring and remarkable women, Ellen Pankey and Lisa Franco. The opportunity to speak at the Festival was amazing and I'm so happy we could re-broadcast this conversation for our Reinvention Rebels audience as an episode. If you didn't have a chance to listen last week, you're in for a treat. In this short episode, I'm spilling the beans on the power of asking for help and how it made all the difference for me.You'll learn:✅ Why we should ask for help more readily (people WANT to help us!) ✅ How I was specifically able to overcome my challenges by asking for help ✅ How asking for help propels us forward as we reinvent ourselvesI know so many capable women are used to doing everything themselves. I've so been there. But there's so much grace in letting our guard down, being open and partnering with others to help us on our journey. Whether you're just starting out or have been on this journey for a while, I hope this episode will inspire you to get a little help from your friends as you take action towards your dreams. We all know the phrase "I had to learn it the hard way." But what can we learn about ourselves from difficult circumstances and life lessons?Reflecting on personal failures can reveal growth and serve as a stepping stone to greater success.I've experienced that first hand and I imagine you have your own version of how hard won lessons, though painful, ultimately helped you to grow.In this second episode in my series on failure as a catalyst for success, you'll hear:✳️How we can learn valuable lessons from failure and how it can lead us in new directions ✳️ 3 powerful lessons I learned from my failure as a voice actor✳️ How difficult lessons learned from voice acting helped pave the way for my success as a podcasterI believe we should embrace the compelling concept of "doing it scared" and seize opportunities, even when fear tries to hold us back. We need to learn the lessons we need to learn for a reason.Failure is never really failure. It's creating the space for deep learning , personal growth and building our resilience muscle. Listen to this episode and remind yourself that you too can reflect on the lessons from past failures, learn to appreciate the journey and pave the way to your future success.Mentioned in the episode:Embracing Silver Hair and Midlife Reinvention: A Conversation with Tangled Silver Magazine Publisher Robin SallsEmbracing Failure: Turning Setbacks into Stepping Stones for Success on Your Reinvention JourneyDownload my "Do It Scared, Do It Anyway" Cheat Sheet!******Please Share What You LovedYour feedback means everything to me! The title of Dr. Ellen Albertson's book, Rock Your Midlife, tells you just what you need to know about what's inside. But it doesn't stop there. The subtitle is, 7 Steps to Transform Yourself and Make your Next Chapter Your Best Chapter. Of course, we were intrigued since we're all about midlife at Sisters Cracking Up -- and all about making it the best it can be. Dr. Ellen Albertson is a force of energy, light, and healing. She has grabbed midlife by the chin hairs -- and she shows you how to do the same. We loved this book for its honesty and straightforward advice and we knew we had to have her on the show. With chapters like, Befriend Yourself: From Self-Loathing to Self-Love and Empower Yourself: From Helpless to In Charge, there's something here for everyone who's wondering how to live the years we have left with integrity and passion. If your next steps are unclear, or you can see them but can't figure out how to take them, you won't want to miss this episode. Abby and Julie also discuss (okay, sing) a possible theme song for Julie's TV show if the opportunity might ever arise. They also talk (okay, whine) about the amount of time and work it takes to keep a podcast going, and how Abby's early motherhood years were largely spent in her efforts not to have a complete breakdown.

In this episode, we're turning the tables and Jen McDonald is being interviewed! Find out more about Jen's story as a military spouse of three decades, which led to her writing a book for other spouses and starting the Milspouse Matters podcast. Lana Simmons, cohost of the Reinventing Midlife podcast, puts Jen on the hot seat. We'll talk about feeling like a fish out of water as a new military spouse, adapting to the quirks of military culture, all the moves, living overseas, raising military kids, deployments, her family's homeschooling journey, and the second career she's found. You'll want to tune in to this fun episode, where Lana does her own "quick 5" questions and we talk about that one time Jen met Chris Hemsworth and her brief (and of course, embarrassing) encounter with legendary "Stormin' Norman" General Schwarzkopf.
