When you look at the world, you think, "Oh yeah, I know how this works. I know causality. I know the resultant vector of what's taking place here." And when you read the Bhagavad-gītā and Kṛṣṇa tells you, "Here's how to identify the modes of nature, and here's the effect of each mode of nature." For instance, He says, in passion, it's like nectar in the beginning, but poison at the end. When you know that, and it's there in your intelligence strongly enough, and the opportunity comes and you go, there's a little screen in front of your face, like there's a little readout that you can see, like if you had those AI glasses or something. And then you look, and you go, "Rajas: happy in the beginning, poison in the end." And like, "Would you like poison?" "No thanks." Even though the senses are going, "Take it, come on, take it," and then the intelligence says, "No, we don't want to drink poison right now. Thanks a lot. Maybe, you know, some other time." This is what we get from the Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. So in the beginning, if we're diligent in doing vaidhi—taking shelter of the scripture. Vaidhi means scripture. In the beginning, we're not practicing spontaneous devotional service. We don't have a taste, but we have faith in śāstra. As it is pointed out many times by our ācāryas and by Prabhupāda, śāstra or śastra. It comes from the same root, but śāstra means the scripture which gives us this razor-sharp intelligence, and śastra means the sword of the material world. If you put your hand in the wrong place, you get your fingers cut off. So which do you prefer? You take the śāstra or the śastra? That's why we emphasize our movements based on this śāstra. If you join a movement and there's no śāstra and they just have emotions, you really won't be able to make advancement. This is also there in the Second Chapter—it's a few verses before where we are now, śṛṇvatām. It says (SB 1.2.12), tac chraddadhānā munayo jñāna-vairāgya-yuktayā paśyanty ātmani cātmānaṁ bhaktyā śruta-gṛhītayā To make advancement on this path, you need śāstra. It has to be there. And if you don't have that, then it's going to be very difficult just to say, "Okay, I already have a higher taste; therefore, I won't be attracted to everything else." If you don't have that yet, you will be pulled back into the idea that maybe I can enjoy both things—I'll do devotional service and also enjoy the material world at the same time. And that doesn't work out well. One man was freed from prison for a murder he says he did not commit. Another man who will never get out is admitting to that murder, but authorities don't believe him. Gilbert King, the host of the hit podcast Bone Valley, joins me to discuss Season 2 and the relationship between Leo Schofield Jr., who was accused of killing his wife Michelle, and Jeremy Scott, the man who said he killed her. The lives of the two men open up questions about whether even those who cannot be rehabilitated can be redeemed and we discuss what it tells us about our history, our society and the power of forgiveness and love.Contact me at silverliningshandbookpod@gmail.comCheck out the Silver Linings Handbook website at:https://silverliningshandbook.com/Check out our Patreon to support the show at:https://www.patreon.com/thesilverliningshandbookJoin our Facebook Group at:https://www.facebook.com/groups/1361159947820623Visit the Silver Linings Handbook store to support the podcast at:https://www.bonfire.com/store/the-silver-linings-handbook-podcast-storeVisit The True Crime Times Substack at:https://truecrimemessenger.substack.comThe Silver Linings Handbook podcast is a part of the ART19 network. This is a great privilege to have specific knowledge of the entryway into The Lord's heart, as mentioned by Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī in the book Laghu-bhāgavatāmṛta, that there are two means by which one's liṅga-śarīra, or subtle material body that holds one to the material world, is destroyed, and one can attain one's spiritual form. The first is by chanting Kṛṣṇa's names, and the second is by seeing Kṛṣṇa's beauty. And there's a way in which Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu describes nāmākārī bahudhā nija-sarva-śaktis, that The Lord's Names have His full potencies, which includes His beautiful form. In the teachings of Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, through the Harināma-cintāmaṇi, we find that the Lord has primary (mukhya) names and secondary (gauṇa) names. Primary names have to do with the creation of the world. In the description of the creation of the world, concentration is more about the living entity who's dependent on the Lord as Paramātmā to supply all needs. But beyond the material creation is The Lord's realm of līlā, where He Himself is interacting with His bhaktas. The names that relate to the Lord beyond the material creation, says Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, are called primary names, and these names are especially potent. By chanting these names, then one becomes aware of the full charm and beauty of Kṛṣṇa, and by that means one's heart is attracted away from the material world, and all the anarthas are destroyed within the heart, as mentioned in the 11th Canto of the Bhāgavatam, Second Chapter and 55th verse, which is the last verse in the chapter, the perfection of one's devotional service is mentioned: visṛjati hṛdayaṁ na yasya sākṣād dharir avaśābhihito 'py aghaugha-nāśaḥ praṇaya-rasanayā dhṛtāṅghri-padmaḥ sa bhavati bhāgavata-pradhāna uktaḥ It is said ukta pradhāna bhakta—the highest level of devotional service is achieved by one who chants The Holy Name of The Lord with love. Praṇaya means love. Rasanayā means ropes. Dhṛtāṅghri-padmaḥ means that one's able to tie Kṛṣṇa's lotus feet by chanting with love. https://vedabase.io/en/library/sb/11/2/55/ ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #makejapagreatagain #mantra #mantrameditation #chantharekrishnaandbehappy #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

Keyboardist: Gail NoblesThe song The Train is by the male Gospel group known as The Second Chapter. It's a song of journey towards salvation. The way their music is played in the song is like the sound of a train. I don't know much about the group Second Chapter, but that song,The Train, should have gotten an award if it didn't. The song came from the 1994 album entitled Feel the Spirit. They tell the story in the song about a train and a conductor who was an old sanctified man that would get happy up in the engine, how he would reach and grab hold of horn, and he would start blowing. Second Chapter would give a demonstration in their music how the horn and the bell and train would sound. And they would sing Whoo! woo! if you don't want to go, you don't have to go, you don't have to ride this train. You can hear the Second Chapter's song The Train from their album Feel the Spirit on Spotify. I'm Gail Nobles, and you're listening to a show about the gospel greats. Thank you for listening.
Today's guest is the queen of embracing the second chapter. Fearne Cotton started young. She became a children's TV presenter at 15, presented Top of The Pops at 19 and took over Jo Whiley's mid morning show on Radio One at just 27. But it's what she's achieved since turning her back on live radio and TV that's really remarkable. In 2018 she launched Happy Place podcast, which has since amassed over 50 million downloads and expanded into a festival, bookclub, app and publishing imprint. As an author herself Fearne has written several books including the Sunday Times bestsellers Happy and Bigger Than Us. But when people talk about Fearne they still describe her first and foremost as a broadcaster - instead of what she is: a highly successful and intuitive businesswoman who has curated an entire career, business and brand around her personal passions. Now she's turned her hand to fiction, with Scripted, in which a chronic people pleaser learns how to say no. Frankly I can think of a few people (including yours truly) who could take a lesson or two… Fearne joined me to talk about how she finally found her balance in mid-life. We also discussed why being a step parent needs a rebrand, learning not to be a little bitch to yourself, respecting your energy levels as much as your bank balance. And why she love love love love loves being in her 40s. * You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at The Shift bookshop on Bookshop.org, including Scripted by Fearne Cotton and the book that inspired this podcast, The Shift: how I lost and found myself after 40 - and you can too, by me. * If you enjoyed this episode and you fancy buying me a coffee, pop over to my page on buymeacoffee.com. • And if you'd like to support the work that goes into making this podcast and get a weekly newsletter plus loads more content including exclusive transcripts of the podcast, why not join The Shift community, come and have a look around at www.theshiftwithsambaker.substack.com • The Shift (on life after 40) with Sam Baker is created and hosted by Sam Baker and edited by Juliette Nicholls @ Pineapple Audio Production. Episode 171 In this podcast, New York Times bestselling author and astrologer Chani Nicholas discusses the astrology of the week and what it might mean for us all. The astrology of the week of March 25th, 2024, contains a very important moment. That is because on Monday, there's a lunar eclipse in Libra, uncovering something that is usually hidden and prompting us to rebalance the scales of justice. And since this eclipse is ruled by Venus (the planet of love) — which is currently exalted in Pisces — it is more supported than the first one in this series that occurred in October 2023. On Thursday, Venus sextiles Uranus (the planet of upheaval), encouraging us to be more experimental in our relationships and pleasure pursuits. Take extra care of yourselves and each other this week. This episode was recorded on 2/15/2024. P.S. We have a special Mercury shadow treat for you this week. From now until April 1st, we're giving you 10% off the tools you need to navigate the upcoming retrograde. That includes our 2024 Digital Astro Planner, Mercury Planetary Candle, affirmation deck, and more. Head to chani.com for all the info. BeTzeit Yisrael MiMitzrayim: The Second Chapter of Tehillim, by Rav Yitzchak Etshalom One of the highlights - and perhaps the ultimate purpose - of the Seder evening is the recitation of Hallel (Tehillim 113-118), the first two chapters of which are sung at the end of Maggid. We explore the general framework of Hallel, the rabbinic discussion about its authorship and the various "Hallels" that we have in our liturgy. We then study the text of the second chapter with an eye towards the four goals in any study of Tehillim - (1) the meaning of the words (2) the poetic structure of the psalm (3) the message of the psalm and (4) its place at that point in the liturgy. The shiur includes an introduction to the literary analysis of Biblical poetry introduced by Aryeh Strauss and by Meir Weiss. Source sheet >>

By the time we reach our 60s, many of us are reinvention pros - we've reinvented ourselves so many times that we've lost track! Each reinvention is part of our journey to evolve into who we are today. And when we're open to "serial reinvention" - giving ourselves permission to become our best selves through reinvention time and time again - anything is possible.Just ask my guest Patricia Melton - community builder, young adult cheerleader, and a self-proclaimed, "reinvention-ista". Coach Nicky Clarke from Chapter 2 Unleashed is here today to talk about how our roles change in midlife and the adaption process. We change. Our relationships change. And so our titles may not change, but our roles within those titles MUST change. Midlife, or the Second Chapter, is such an amazing time that we can rewrite for ourselves. We have the freedom to explore what lights us up and to bring that forward and into our lives moving forward. No need for limiting beliefs or imposter syndrome, because we are rewriting our story the way we want it told. Boundaries must be set. Guild must be let go. Bucket lists need to be created. And living must be done because we don't get a do-over. No one gets to write the first chapter of their lives. But everyone gets to write their second chapter. From birth, chapter one is written for us by those that have control. For some, that chapter is good, right, and positive. Thus, those people have a good foundation for writing their second chapter. Over the last ten years of counseling, the word Vera Holloway hears from clients, more than any other, is “stuck.” Do you know anyone that's stuck? Or maybe you're the stuck one. And no matter the source or severity of the "stuck," whether it's from past trauma, failed relationships, or unsuccessful attempts at personal growth, this book will help. In today's episode, Vera: · outlines what stuck looks like · helps you identify what holds you captive · gives you the tools needed to get unstuck · guides you in writing your second chapter with clarity It takes courage and determination to get unstuck and out of the cycle of destruction to live the linear life God has for each of us. Your Second Chapter is an opportunity to write that new life chapter. “We can be a love offering by not thinking we have to have it all figured out. It's free to be kind, to encourage, and pray for someone else.” Connect with Vera: https://veraholloway.com
