Fyrir tæpum tíu árum gerði kanadíski popparinn Justin Bieber flak gamallar varnarliðsvélar sem nauðlenti á Sólheimasandi fyrir tæpum fimmtíu árum heimsfrægt. Enn sér ekki fyrir endann á vinsældum þess. Landeigendur hafa gripið gæsina og rukkað fyrir bílastæði en nú standa þeir á ákveðnum tímamótum. Flakið er orðið ansi veðrað og það vakti athygli í vikunni þegar fréttastofa stöðvar 2 greindi frá því að landeigendur hefðu fjárfest í nýrri flugvél, keypt gamlan Flugfélagsþrist af Þristavinafélaginu. Út frá þessu hafa spunnist líflegar umræður innan ferðaþjónustunnar - stendur til að skipta flakinu út? Væri það eðlilegt viðhald ferðamannastaðar eða disney-væðing? Bjarnheiður Hallsdóttir framkvæmdastjóri Katla DMI og fyrrverandi formaður Samtaka ferðaþjónustunnar ræðir við okkur um þetta. Og síðan ætlum við að fjalla um gervigreind. Í síðustu viku fórum við á ráðstefnu um gervigreind og lögfræði. Við sögðum frá því síðasta fimmtudag, en þar fengum við í viðtal til okkar Doktor Katie Nolan, sem er fræðimaður við Tækniháskólann í Dublin. Hún gerði svokallað gervigreindarhæp að umfjöllunarefni sínu (gervigreindarskrum, gervigreindaræði), og við vildum vita meira. Heyrum í Katie Nolan við miðbik þáttar. Edda Olgudóttir, vísindamiðlari þáttarins, kemur í heimsókn, eins og venjulega á miðvikudögum. Við ræðum við hana um hvernig ungbörn mynda minningar. Tónlist og stef: JUSTIN BIEBER - Peaches. "Bristol, England, based band, Idles, recently released their fifth album, Tangk. Produced by the band's guitarist, Mark Bowen, along with Nigel Godrich and Kenny Beats, Tangk explores new sonic territory for the band – including the use of tape loops – making for a rich and nuanced landscape for singer Joe Talbot's deeply personal lyrics and raw delivery. Geoff Stanfield caught up with Joe and Mark while the band was on tour, to discuss the making of Tangk, working with Nigel and more! Enjoy!”
John is joined by IDLES' Bowen, along with producer Kenny Beats, and producer and engineer Mikko Gordon, to talk about how they wrote, recorded and produced the album ‘TANGK'. Idles are a British post-punk band who gained recognition with their 2017 debut album ‘Brutalism'. Known for their gritty, powerful sound and explosive live shows, their five albums to date have earned them nominations for the Mercury Prize, BRIT & Grammy Awards. Their latest record, ‘TANGK', sees the band team up with producers Nigel Godrich and Kenny Beats, and digs into topics of love and gratitude, all while maintaining their signature Idles energy. Linking up between Kenny's LA studio and Mikko's London studio, the trio discuss how they utilised the different strands of experience and expertise from all involved. As well as dubious covers and Christmas day demos, they share stories of writing team breakouts and the unexpected moments that came when they drew inspiration beyond their usual domains. Early in their discussion, they discuss Joe's childhood in Bristol, and his early music memories, including being introduced to Van Morrison's Astral Weeks by his father at a youngg age. Along the way, they touch on his background as a DJ, and his love for U.K. hip-hop. Next, Scott asks him about the early days of IDLES. Joe shares how he supported himself before he could pursue music full-time, and how the band eventually decided to sign to Partisan Records. After giving some insight into the making of IDLES' first album, Joe discusses the band's upcoming record,Tangk produced by Kenny Beats and the legendary Nigel Godrich. Finally, the episode ends with some of Joe's Top 5's, including his top 5 underrated British rock bands, and his top 5 foods we don't have in America!
Since releasing their critically acclaimed debut album, Brutalism, in 2017, the British band IDLES have dropped four other albums in quick succession. The band's bombastic sound brilliantly balances joy, chaos, and an often critical take on the powers that be. IDLES latest album, TANGK, was produced by the band's guitarist Mark Bowen, Kenny Beats, and Radiohead producer, Nigel Godrich. On today's episode Justin Richmond talks to Joe Talbot and Mark Bowen from the greenroom of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon about their tumultuous creative partnership. They also explain how Mark helps temper Joe's sometimes passionate rage, and Joe breaks down why he will forever despise England's monarchy. You can hear a playlist of some of our favorite IDLES songs HERE.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Joe Talbot, frontman for the ferocious U.K. band Idles, explores his artistic roots -- how his sculptor dad taught him the value of a creative purpose, how his love for hip-hop evolved as he became more politically aware, the inspiration he drew from Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, how the early oughts breakthrough by the Strokes influenced him, what it was like for Idles to find their sound in Bristol's fertile music scene, and how they learned to try new things, with help from producers Nigel Godrich and Kenny Beats, on their excellent new album Tangk.

We will still have guests on ocassionally but the podcast will now be used to give listeners more in-depth information. If you have questions you want answered - e-mail: andrew@lifelongendurance.com Welcome to Episode 1 of a 5 part series I'm calling “The Layers of Fitness”. After some time away from this podcast, I wanted to reassess what this podcast was best used for and what was most helpful to our listeners. The episodes that seem to perform the best are often the ones that bring your knowledge of running and training up a level. As a coach, I can't sit down and explain the intricacies of training person by person so the Defining Endurance platform (for now) is going to be a place where I can park some of the most important conversations I wish I had time to explain to my athletes I reference Episode 79 - The Biology of Fatigue and Episode 85: the Mentality of Recovery in this episode. Kenny Beats is a hip-hop producer who's been making beats and producing songs for other artists since 2010. He's got a long list of collaborations, with rappers like Vince Staples, Freddie Gibbs, and Denzel Curry. In 2022, he did something he wasn't really ever expecting to do, which was to release an album of his own. The album is called Louie, and it's a tribute to Kenny's father. I talked to Kenny about the song “Still,” the first song he made specifically for this project. It features guest vocals from JPEGMafia and Omar Apollo, and a sample from gospel singer Linda Kemp. Louie includes a lot of tracks where you can hear Kenny's dad's voice, and even though "Still" isn't one of them, as Kenny explains, his relationship with his dad is embedded in the song's DNA. A true renaissance man, Kenny Beats has built an entire network around his "Don't Over Think Shit" mantra, and from that created his sensational YouTube series 'The Cave,' landed record deals for members of his Discord, produced records for some of the biggest artists in music, and somehow still found time to release his own debut album, 'Louie.' In this episode we hear how Kenny's father's basketball career influenced his music, why Billboard placements don't matter if your friends think you're whack, and how to keep creating and reinventing yourself through all the trials and tribulations life throws your way. Following a few popular online singles in the previous years, St. Louis artist Smino has been able to establish an audience thanks to his slurred hometown accent and fresh beats made by Chicago producer, Monte Booker. In 2017, He dropped Blkswn, an album that not only had some speaker-worthy bangers, but managed to add a sense of humanity to a city still healing three years after a summer of trauma. The critical success of Blkswn has made Smino a standout in the late 2010s and he continues to grow with the help of new sounds Kenny Beats. Along with our guest Josh (@BlackOrpheus) we choose our top three tracks and discuss Smino's versatility, the rise of Chicago music during the blog era, and how he used an experimental project to let the world know where he's from.
