Jackie Nagel always questioned the conventional path society set for her, using her keen interests in mathematics and sciences she carved her own path in life from nursing to sales and of course coaching. In this episode, we discuss the importance of data-based decision making, unconventional thinking and dealing with the messy middle where businesses are typically stuck. We also take some time to talk about the preventative actions entrepreneurs should be taking to keep burnout from setting in. Find Jackie onlinehttps://synnovatia.com/ Find us onlinehttps://impactfulcoachingpodcast.com/ 3:14 After a slightly longer warmup than usual, Jackie shares with the audience what she does as a career and in the coaching space. Joseph asks if she has a long-standing history with this. 6:40 Jackie's experience as a coach is longstanding, she discusses how initially coaching had more to do with asking questions and helping people find their context, but that was not doable for entrepreneurs who had none. 9:07 Joseph recalls being part of the alternative group in high school and characterizes them in all the usual ways and asks in what ways were Jackie's personality traits distinguished. 14:45 We touch on the nature of rule abiding, that while we can generally reason and discuss why a rule should be followed, to truly abide by them is to have a deep, resonant fear of the consequences, Joseph asks Jackie for her take on this. 18:39 Growing up just as the internet became publicly, commercially accessible, it had a profound change on what structures and institutions Joseph abided by, he asked Jackie what was her societal change along those lines. 23:13 Jackie talks about her point of view on the internet and the degree of skepticism she takes when she examines information or opinion online. Joseph notices how the abundance of information can lead to inspiration but it can also lead to paralysis. 27:20 What is the messy middle? Jackie breaks down this common pitfall that entrepreneurs are falling into. 34:48 Is it an issue, bridging the gap between the client that a business has worked with in the past and a higher-ticket client that we want to appeal to? Jackie explains it's about the relationship between cost and value. 40:54 Jackie details what value the solutions on the fly offer provides for her existing clients. 45:31 on the subject of burnout, Jackie finds that trying to make small, incremental changes to improve the health of entrepreneurs. Tim Ringo has some unconventional ideas about how owners and CEOs can inspire greater productivity from their employees and turbocharge their companies’ profitability. Among these: hire people on the Autism spectrum, forget about requiring a college degree for job candidates, and use robots to replace employees who hold repetitive, mundane jobs — retraining the displaced workers for better, higher-paying positions. Tim, with more than 30 years in the Human Resources field, is the author of the newly published book, “Solving the Productivity Puzzle: How to engage, motivate and develop employees to improve individual and business performance.” This week, Tim shares with host Dean Rotbart why he believes America is entering a “perfect storm” of new opportunities for employees and organizations. Interview with James Sykes, CEO of Baselode Energy (TSX-V: FIND)Baselode Energy is the newest uranium story in a flood of new entrants coming unto the market with the intention of profiting off the incoming uranium bull market. It is located near to the most desirable uranium location of all, the high-grade Athabasca Basin. Several members on the Baselode Energy team have decent track records; Sykes, a structural engineer, has 10-years of Athabasca Basin uranium exploration and discovery experience and discovered the well known Arrow deposit for NexGen Energy. He's smart, young, energetic and enthusiastic to get Baselode Energy ground.Baselode Energy has something of an unconventional thesis and strategy when it comes to uranium mining, and Sykes is looking for the types of deposits that would allow him to take his company into production.Interestingly, despite having worked in the Athabasca Basin for so long, he has his doubts about its ability to be mined, hence choosing an asset just outside the basin. Not sure his thesis is going to make Sykes popular with investors in other uranium companies, but we have not been able to get a response from some of those uranium juniors to discuss it. Worth investigating or just another junior CEO talking his play book? Marisa Sergi is the CEO of RedHead Wine. Her love affair with wine started in the basement of her parents' home with a sippy cup at age 5. In fifth grade, she went public with her dream of being a winemaker. A third-generation winemaker, she came by her career choice naturally, having grown up in the family winery business, and in 2015, she graduated from Cornell with a degree in Enology and Viticulture. She also interned for and worked at E&J Gallo Winery in California. Her senior year capstone project at Cornell led to the launch of RedHead Wine - a unique blend of California Zinfandel and Chilean Carménère. Although Marisa's only been working full-time on RedHead since last August, it's already available at nearly 200 stores in Ohio. And she has been hard at work on a Provence-style rosé, with a profile that is fruit forward but clean, crisp and refreshing. In this episode, you will learn the importance of asking for help and feedback on your work, the value of in-person connections to grow your online business, what it means to be a woman in business, and how to master the power of unconventional thinking.
If you want to make a lot of money at something, you need to learn how to do it well. Timeka Williams and Randolph Mapp Jr. speak about having unconventional thinking to achieve great success.
Retirement planning can sometimes be full of conventional wisdom. However, that only works if you want a conventional retirement. This week on The Get Ready for the Future Show John, Janet and Mason discuss unconventional thoughts that can prepare you to have Uncommon results in retirement.
In this episode, I talk about the book The Art of Being Unreasonable: Lessons in Unconventional Thinking by Eli Broad. Eli Broad is a successful businessman and in this book, he discusses his own evolution and how he has been able to accomplish so much in his life. -- Description from the book: The Art of Being Unreasonable shares the unreasonable principles—from negotiating to risk-taking, from investing to hiring—that have made Eli Broad a success. From understanding "the value of being second" to embracing the thrill of taking a risk, Broad shares the insights and practices that have propelled him to the top. The book explains how to ask unreasonable questions, pursue the untried, relentlessly revise expectations upward, be restless, and most important, seek out the best in everything—the best values, the best investments, the best people—and the best in yourself. If you're stuck doing what reasonable people do—and not getting anywhere—it's time to get unreasonable, and see how far your next endeavor can go. -- The Lesson Guide for this episode is available at www.englishfluencynow.com.
How have unreasonable principles —from negotiating to risk-taking, from investing to hiring— helped billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad in founding two Fortune 500 companies, funding scientific research and education reform, and building some of the world’s greatest contemporary art museums? Why is he drawn to the unreasonableness of contemporary artists like Richard Serra and Robert Rauschenberg? What can we learn from the wisdom of an unreasonable man?
