Rod Yancy, founder of Oath Planning, challenges that assumption head-on — arguing that mindset, emotional health, and identity matter more than any portfolio balance when it comes to actually thriving in retirement. In this conversation, Rod shares data from Oath’s latest client survey, their Q1 2026 Money and Meaning Institute survey of over 500 retirees and near-retirees, and some the findings may surprise you. For example, the biggest regrets aren’t about money. The financial advisory industry is structurally incentivized to keep money at the center of retirement planning — even when that leaves clients less than fully prepared for what they’ll face in planning for life in retirement. He offers a candid, practitioner-level view of what he actually sees working (and failing) in retirement transitions. Rod Yancy joins us from Tulsa, Oklahoma. _________________________ Bio Rod Yancy is a multifaceted entrepreneur, writer, attorney, and leader. His personal mission to empower others to live their lives to the fullest is woven into both his business ventures and creative projects. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma in 2002 with a double major in philosophy and political science, Rod made adventure his top priority, traveling in search of new experiences, inspiration, and deeper meaning. He began writing about his journeys while immersing himself in diverse fields, from mindfulness to literature to software development. Recognizing the importance of legal expertise for his entrepreneurial goals, Rod pursued a J.D. at the University of Oklahoma College of Law, graduating in 2006. He quickly put his education to use by founding two app-based software companies in fantasy sports and photo sharing, before shifting his focus to creating what became one of his life's major undertakings – Oath. Since its inception in 2010, Oath Law has been guided by Rod's belief that life is short and everyone should embrace their unique journey to achieve their full potential. With this perspective, Rod utilized estate planning as a means to help people recognize life is short and organize their affairs, allowing them to focus on what truly matters: enjoying life. _____________________________ For More on Rod Yancy Oath Planning _____________________________ Retirement Podcast Conversations You May Like Retire with Purpose – Cesar Aguirre Design a Phased Retirement – Anna Rappaport Coming of Age in Retirement – Tom Marks _____________________________ About The Retirement Wisdom Podcast There are many podcasts on retirement, often hosted by financial advisors with their own financial motives, that cover the money side of the street. And when they asked him what he would have done different, he said I would have cared for the soil sooner. And that that really is the thing. Oftentimes, we really don’t care for what matters until after it’s too late to fix it. And I think that when it comes to emotional well being and mindfulness, people sometimes don’t even know what they were missing. But when we sit down with our clients who are retirees, we see clearly that their mindset does shape their experience in retirement even more than money.” On Resilience “Oftentimes, resilience determines whether the change going into retirement feels like freedom, or feels like a loss of identity. And their purpose or what they what they mean to do with their life can make their calendar either feel very empty or open for for better things for them to do. I don’t know if it’s counterintuitive, but I just keep seeing it time and time again, that people really need to pay attention to who they are before retirement.” On Taking Aim in Retirement “A man without an aim or a woman without an aim…is just that drifting. Taking aim at something is really important even in retirement. I think that is where you find the peace and that’s where you find that purpose.” _____________________________
What if not participating in worship actually reveals something deeper about our hearts? In this episode, I'm joined by Yancy, a passionate leader in kids and family worship. She shares her story of writing and leading songs that help children encounter God, and we lean into a big question: Is it a sin to not participate in worship? We talk about what Scripture teaches, how worship shapes our faith, and what it looks like to respond to God even in seasons of doubt, distraction, or difficulty. Whether you're a parent, ministry leader, or simply someone who's ever stood silently during a worship song, this episode offers clarity, grace, and a fresh perspective.
In this episode of the Breakfast Leadership Show, Michael sits down with Yancy to explore a powerful journey from career burnout to purpose-driven leadership. What began as a successful career in green building ultimately led to a health crisis that forced Yancy to confront the cost of overperformance, unconscious habits, and chronic self-neglect. That reckoning became the catalyst for creating Casa Alternavida, a leadership and wellness retreat center in Puerto Rico designed to help leaders reset, recalibrate, and lead sustainably. Yancy shares the real, unpolished reality behind the transition including a two-year remote phase-out from his corporate role, navigating hurricanes, financial strain, and the pandemic. Rather than derailing the mission, each disruption deepened his coaching capacity and clarified the work he was meant to do. The same burnout patterns that once drove his own collapse now show up repeatedly in the leaders who attend his retreats, reinforcing a simple truth: burnout is rarely a personal failure; it is a leadership signal. From Career Success to Conscious Leadership Yancy walks listeners through the internal and external shifts required to move from traditional success metrics to values-driven leadership. Leaving a stable career was not a dramatic overnight leap. It was a slow, uncomfortable disentangling process marked by uncertainty and resilience. The environmental challenges faced in Puerto Rico, from hurricanes to infrastructure breakdowns, mirrored the internal rebuilding leaders must do after burnout. These experiences shaped the retreat philosophy: growth is forged in disruption, not comfort. That insight ultimately led Yancy to write a book grounded in lived experience, not theory, offering leaders a roadmap to recognize burnout early and respond with intention rather than collapse. The Real Root Causes of Burnout Michael and Yancy unpack burnout beyond surface-level stress management. Yancy identifies three recurring root causes he sees consistently in leaders: Neglect of physical well-being Leaders often treat their bodies as tools rather than systems, ignoring sleep, nutrition, and recovery until health forces their attention. Unconscious communication patterns Unspoken expectations, unresolved tension, and misalignment quietly drain energy and erode trust, both internally and within teams. The “superhero complex” driven by the inner critic Many leaders operate from a belief that they must carry everything alone. This identity is often praised externally while silently destroying capacity from the inside. Through the lens of self-leadership, these patterns can be interrupted. Awareness creates choice, and choice restores agency. Why Retreats Create Breakthroughs The conversation highlights why immersive retreats remain one of the most effective environments for leadership transformation. Removed from constant digital noise and performance pressure, leaders experience time differently. Presence expands. Nervous systems downshift. Perspective returns. Yancy explains that when people reconnect with their senses and the natural environment, clarity accelerates. Decisions that once felt overwhelming become obvious. Productivity improves not because leaders push harder, but because they stop leaking energy. Michael reinforces that self-care is not a reward for hard work; it is the infrastructure that makes sustainable leadership possible. Leadership That Lasts Yancy also discusses his book, Amplify Your Leadership, which distills the tools, practices, and frameworks he teaches at Casa Alternavida. The book is designed for leaders who want to scale impact without sacrificing health, relationships, or integrity. The episode closes with an invitation for listeners to rethink how they define success and to recognize burnout as an early warning system rather than a breaking point. Key Takeaways Burnout is not a weakness; it is feedback Self-leadership precedes sustainable external leadership Presence and recovery increase performance, not reduce it Leaders do not need more pressure; they need better systems Conscious communication and body awareness are non-negotiable leadership skills Learn More To learn more about Yancy's work, retreats, and leadership resources, listeners are encouraged to explore his programs and writing through Casa Alternavida. https://www.yancywright.com/ https://www.casaalternavida.com/ ABOUT YANCY A visionary facilitator and coach, Yancy Wright guides organizations to new horizons. @1QLeadership Question: How can university presidents creatively lead conference realignment while protecting academic priorities and strengthening institutional and league stability for the long term? Dr. John R. Porter of Lindenwood University, and Dr. Yancy Freeman of University of Tennessee Martin, explore how university presidents balance athletics and academics. The two CEO's discuss leading through conference realignment challenges in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). They also cover using creative, business-minded strategy to stabilize and grow their respective institutions. Presidents' role in athletics The guests explain that athletics is often the most visible and attention grabbing part of a university, driving applications, enrollment, school pride, donations, and media exposure, which forces presidents to devote significant time and strategic focus to sports. They emphasize that athletics must enhance the academic mission, not overshadow it, so they deliberately balance funding and messaging between academic priorities and athletic success. Stabilizing the Ohio Valley Conference When member schools left or considered leaving, the Board of Presidents responded with unusually candid, frequent conversations to reaffirm commitment, increase exit fees, and engage consultants to craft a long term strategy and structure for the conference. They describe this moment of "friction" as ultimately positive, creating tighter relationships among presidents, clearer shared vision, and a more intentional search for a new commissioner who can elevate the OVC. Creativity, strategy, and leadership style Dr. Porter applies business discipline and growth thinking—like building a multi-entity education system and treating Lindenwood as an enterprise—to drive execution, revenue growth, and investment capacity that can support both academics and athletics. Dr. Freeman focuses on strategic planning rooted in enrollment management and student experience, contributing an outcome-driven approach to conference strategy and to aligning athletics with campus-wide priorities. -Tai M. In this episode of the Pinch My Salt Podcast we sit down with Yancy for a legendary, unfiltered, laugh conversation that swings from surf culture and Florida surf life to faith, spirituality, and growing up in strict Christianity—with a hard detour into the most chaotic 90s MTV story you've ever heard. Yancy breaks down what it feels like “crossing the bridge” from youthful ego to wisdom, why the fight to be spiritual can get weirder the closer you get to God, and how surf life tests your patience (and your flesh) daily. Then it goes full send: his real-life experience on MTV's Singled Out with Jenny McCarthy, a blindfold, wild questions, a brutal “set up,” and a date that spiraled into absolute madness. We also hit classic Pinch topics like airline travel rants, old-school surfboard factories, Skip Frye surfboards, and why beach dredging / beach renourishment is wrecking sandbars and surf.If you like surf podcasts, comedy podcasts, behind-the-scenes 90s MTV stories, and real talk about faith + life… you're in the right place.

OFX EPISODE 268: THE DEKA DRAFT 2025In this week's episode, Beth makes picks, Yancy makes picks, and Dave makes mistakes.
In this episode of Joe Oltmann Untamed, we begin with archery badass Antuan Yancy, who reveals how bows, arrows, and brotherhood build unbreakable men in a crumbling society. Then we go to Mark Levin, who just declared war on free speech inside MAGA: “If you reject Judaism, you reject America.” He's smearing anyone questioning Trump's Israel-first moves as anti-Semitic – even going nuclear on Tucker Carlson for daring to talk with Nick Fuentes. Levin snarls that your “stupid little podcast” won't change the world, but social media is EXPOSING the lies daily. Americans are waking up: marrying U.S. policy to Israel isn't “America First” anymore – it's corruption on steroids. The distrust is boiling over, and gatekeepers like Levin are torching the movement from within. Tonight we play the explosive clips and ask: why can you savage the USA but get canceled for criticizing Israel? This is the red pill the GOP doesn't want you to swallow.Meanwhile, the swamp is imploding in real time. Gavin Newsom's former Chief of Staff Dana Williamson was just perp-walked by the FBI on bank fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy charges – federal indictment in hand. Across the border in Arizona, Governor Katie Hobbs is literally sprinting from reporters as bombshell bribery and racketeering probes close in. Sunshine Residential Homes allegedly funneled $400K to Hobbs and AZ Dems for millions in state contracts. We've got the court docs, the dodge-and-weave video, and the tweets lighting up X. The same machine that called you “deplorable” is eating its own – and we're ringside with popcorn.
Today, my conversation is with my dear friend Yancy Wideman Richmond and honestly, it feels so necessary. I think it's because she's shining a light on something that's often overlooked if you're not experiencing it firsthand: the kids growing up in the fishbowl of ministry.Yancy is a worship leader who's been creating music for kids and families for years. But lately, God has put something else on her heart that she couldn't shake… pastor's kids. The ones who sacrifice in ways no one asks them to. The ones who notice when their parent is different on stage than at home. The ones who get overlooked for discipleship because everyone assumes they're fine.So she's launched Stained Glass Kids: a podcast for and about ministry kids. It's so helpful and needed and it's a case study handed to church leaders on a silver platter about how to better care for their staff families. In our conversation, Yancy shares some of the wisdom she's already gleaned: Celebrate staff kids for the sacrifice they make. Remember that your staff members are someone's spouse, someone's parent. First-borns often carry pressure in hard seasons even when parents never asked them to. And kids absolutely notice when they're treated differently because of their last name. This episode is a big bear hug for anyone who grew up in ministry. It's also a necessary conversation for anyone in church leadership who wants to do better.Yancy on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yancynotnancy/Stained Glass Kids on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stainedglasskids/The Stained Glass Kids Podcast: http://stainedglasskids.com Yancy's book “Sweet Sound: The Power of Discipling Kids in Worship": yancyministries.com/sweetsound Curriculum to teach the heart of worship: yancyministries.com/heartbeat Worship for Preteen/elementary ages: kidminworship.com Worship for young children: yancyministries.com/readysetgo Live events, family concerts, leading worship: yancyministries.com/events

Then the guys turn the focus back to Blake's Take and the texter's favorite old Sooner traditions and some good ideas for possible new ones to begin. Rebel Yell Hotline's Yancy Proter joins the guys to give an inside look at OU's opponent this Saturday, before Josh Helmer helps wrap things up with "The Josh-Over".
In this powerful and honest conversation, Yancy shares his personal journey of learning how to coach—not just athletes, but his own kids. As a professional fighter, mentor, and father, he opens up about the unique challenges of balancing those roles and how his approach to coaching continues to evolve. We dive deep into the heart of what it really means to coach: the balance between teaching, accountability, and connection. Yancy and Andrew discuss how the landscape of coaching has changed from the “follow the program or get out” mentality to one that encourages communication and mutual understanding. They explore how generational shifts, parenting styles, and life experiences shape the way people learn and respond to coaching.Ultimately, this episode highlights that great coaching goes far beyond sets, reps, and technique. It's about learning how to reach people where they're at, challenge them to grow, and build trust over time. Whether you're a coach, athlete, or parent, this conversation will help you reflect on how to foster more meaningful and effective coaching relationships.

In this episode of Yin and Yancy, Andrew and Yancy dive into the double-edged sword of information overload in today's fitness and performance world. With endless tips, hacks, and advice at our fingertips, it's easy to get distracted or overwhelmed instead of focusing on what really matters—being consistent and building a strong foundation. They discuss how too much information at the wrong time can become an obstacle rather than a tool for progress, especially for beginners who can't yet fully apply or make sense of advanced strategies.Through their conversation, they emphasize that there are no shortcuts to lasting success. Just knowing something isn't enough—you need to experience it, apply it, and grow through the process. Andrew and Yancy share insights on why many so-called “hacks” promoted by influencers only work after years of doing the basics consistently. The key takeaway? Don't chase quick fixes or get lost in the noise. Invest your time and energy into mastering the fundamentals, being consistent, and using information at the right place and time to support sustainable growth.Tune in to this episode for a grounded reminder that true progress doesn't come from shortcuts or information overload—it comes from steady effort, learning, and applying knowledge in ways that fit your current journey. Enjoy the episode!
My guest is Yancey Strickler. We discuss the theory and practice of content moderation on big platforms. Today, the “terms of service” also necessarily set the parameters of debate and have profound downstream effects on political reality. Later on, we discuss Yancy's background as a music critic, his early online record label and his unconventional path to becoming a co-founder of Kickstarter. We breakdown the incentives of platforms to forecast what comes next. At the end of this episode, we discuss a new project called A-Corps. A-Corps are a lightweight co-operative model for creatives. (TLDR: your band can be an artist co-op.) It's not software — it's law. We get into the hard numbers around this and share some war stories about creative life without health insurance. www.patreon.com/joshuacitarella joshuacitarella.substack.com/subscribe
In this episode of Yin and Yancy, Andrew and Yancy reflect on a powerful message inspired by a Denzel Washington clip: in life, you learn, you earn, and you return. This simple yet profound idea sparked a deeper conversation about personal growth, experience, and how we pass on what we've gained—whether in our families, careers, or communities. Yancy shares how this perspective shows up in his own journey as a father, while Andrew explores the role this plays in coaching, mentorship, and the influence we have on the next generation.Together, they unpack how our life experiences—good or bad—shape what we “return” to the world. The two also explore how learning and earning aren't just about personal gain, but about growing the wisdom and awareness to pay things forward in meaningful ways. As coaches, parents, and leaders, it's important to recognize what habits, values, and perspectives are worth passing down—and which ones we can improve for those who come after us. This episode is a powerful reminder that how we choose to return what we've learned and earned can create lasting impact. Enjoy the episode!
If you're a pastor's kid - or if you know a pastor's kid! - this episode is for you!Known widely for her work in the KidMin worship world, Yancy Richmond launched her podcast, Stained Glass Kids, in the fall of 2024. Her heart? To care for pastors' and ministry leaders' kids (PKs). In today's episode, host Hannah Peckett Augustine and Yancy discuss the why behind this incredible ministry - and how to care for the PKs in your life.
In this episode of Yin and Yancy, Andrew and Yancy explore the delicate balance between cautiousness and confidence, both in life and in training. Yancy reflects on a moment with his child learning to navigate stairs—how initial caution gradually gave way to confidence, and how that same shift happens in all of us. It's a powerful metaphor for training, growth, and being mindful of how we carry ourselves through each phase of learning and performance. The conversation dives into how overconfidence can sometimes lead us to overlook small but important details, especially in strength and conditioning. When we've done something repeatedly, we tend to get lax—technique slips, compensations creep in, and progress starts to stall. The key message here is to stay intentional. Confidence is essential to execute, but caution and mindfulness are what help us keep refining. Whether you're a parent, athlete, or coach, this episode offers a powerful reminder to stay present and open to growth, no matter how experienced you become. Enjoy the episode!

In this thought-provoking episode of Yin and Yancy, Andrew and Yancy explore the power of perspective and how seeing things from different angles can transform our understanding and progress. Yancy shares a powerful analogy, using his daughter's new ability to crawl and discover hidden objects on the ground—things they had been searching for from a higher vantage point. This serves as a metaphor for how we, as adults, often view life from our fixed perspectives and miss opportunities to understand things from others' viewpoints. The conversation flows into how we can apply this shift in perspective to personal growth, sports, and life. Whether it's a referee's review in a game or learning from new experiences, broadening our horizons allows us to challenge our own assumptions and gain more comprehensive insights. They discuss the importance of understanding others' perspectives, respecting differing views, and using this awareness to continuously evolve. As they reflect on their Yin and Yancy series, they highlight how mutual growth comes from blending perspectives and pushing each other forward. Tune in to explore how widening your perspective can lead to deeper understanding and better progress in every area of life. Enjoy the episode!

In this episode of Yin and Yancy, Yancy reflects on a powerful moment during his last fight, when an interviewer asked him, "Why do you do what you do?" This question sparked a deeper appreciation for the incredible support system he has—his family, friends, and loved ones—who allow him to pursue his passion for fighting. Despite not winning his last fight, Yancy focuses on the lessons he can take from the experience rather than dwelling on the loss. He emphasizes how important it is to not take losses home but to bring the lessons learned into his daily life, using them to fuel growth and improvement.Throughout the conversation, Yancy shares how his perspective has evolved, especially in times of adversity. He reminds himself to be grateful for what he has achieved and to stay humble, always remembering the moments when he first wanted what he now has. Both Yancy and Andrew dive into the concept of choosing to learn from hard times, avoiding a victim mentality, and holding themselves accountable for their actions. This episode offers valuable insights on using challenges as opportunities for growth, staying grateful, and trusting the process as we continue to push forward in life and training. Tune in for this inspiring conversation on resilience and the power of perspective. Enjoy the episode!
Beyond Pleasure: Three Keys to Truly Fulfilling Sex Sex is at the intersection of life and humanity. For the majority of us, it's how we got here and for parents, it's how we will continue on after we are gone. We often hear the term “better” sex, which begs two questions: what does that mean? And, why is the sex we are currently having not good enough? In this episode we will define the goal of sex - regardless of the stage of the relationship and we will also discuss what prevents us from having sex that lives up to our desired potential. I'm going to take you on a journey as we explore the three sexual freedoms. Starting with discussing the power of freedom to, which I think describes the stage that myself and my husband/ the creative director of this podcast, Jared Brady are in. Then freedom from, which I discuss with my friends Yancy and Premika Leo. Finally we will talk about the Freedom not to, which I explore with my Lovers Community. In this final episode of 2024, ending with another Yin and Yancy episode, Andrew and Yancy dive deep into the topic of New Year's resolutions and why they may not be the best approach for lasting change. Yancy shares a refreshing perspective, asking why we need to wait for the Earth to make its full rotation before we start working toward the things we want to achieve. For him, motivation doesn't come from a calendar date—it's about taking action now, not waiting for an arbitrary day on the calendar to make a change.Throughout the conversation, Yancy emphasizes the importance of living in the moment and appreciating what we can do today. He challenges listeners to think small and move small, as incremental progress is often the most sustainable. Rather than waiting for the next year, Yancy advocates for making resolutions in the present, focusing on the daily habits and consistent efforts that lead to long-term success. This episode serves as a reminder that every day counts in your pursuit of goals, and the key to achieving them is to start now—no waiting necessary. Tune in to this thoughtful and inspiring episode to jumpstart your journey toward consistent improvement heading into 2025 and beyond! Happy Holidays and enjoy the episode!

In another thought-provoking episode of Yin and Yancy, Andrew and Yancy dive into the topic of addressing your weaknesses—both physical and mental—and the importance of embracing them as part of the growth process. Yancy kicks things off with a humorous question: If you punched yourself in the stomach as hard as you could and it hurt, does that make you weak or strong? A fun way to segway into the concept that we all have weaknesses, but it's how we approach them that shapes our progress. The conversation shifts to the common tendency of focusing on strengths, whether it's in training or life. Many people gravitate towards what they're good at or feel comfortable with, often due to external pressures or the fear of appearing weak. However, as Yancy and Andrew discuss, the key to continuous improvement lies in acknowledging and working on your weaknesses. With the right training plan, a supportive coach, and a mindset of growth, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is the real path to progress. This episode highlights how consistency, efficiency, and embracing the struggle are essential components of building long-term success in health, sports, and performance. Enjoy the episode!

Question #37 Mr. S is an 80-year-old man with a history of hypertension, type II diabetes mellitus, and hypothyroidism who had an anterior myocardial infarction (MI) treated with a drug-eluting stent to the left anterior descending artery (LAD) 45 days ago. His course was complicated by a new LVEF reduction to 30%, and left bundle branch block (LBBB) with QRS duration of 152 ms in normal sinus rhythm. He reports he is feeling well and is able to enjoy gardening without symptoms, though he experiences dyspnea while walking to his bedroom on the second floor of his house. Repeat TTE shows persistent LVEF of 30% despite initiation of goal-directed medical therapy (GDMT). What is the best next step in his management?AMonitor for LVEF improvement for a total of 60 days prior to further interventionBImplantation of a dual-chamber ICDCImplantation of a CRT-DDContinue current management as device implantation is contraindicated given his advanced age Answer #37 Explanation Choice C is correct. Implantation of a CRT-D is the best next step. In patients with nonischemic DCM or ischemic heart disease at least 40 days post-MI with LVEF ≤35% and NYHA class II or III symptoms on chronic GDMT, who have reasonable expectation of meaningful survival for >1 year,ICD therapy is recommended for primary prevention of SCD to reduce total mortality (Class 1, LOE A). A transvenous ICD provides high economic value in this setting, particularly when a patient's risk of death from ventricular arrhythmia is deemed high and the risk of nonarrhythmic death is deemed low. In addition, for patients who have LVEF ≤35%, sinus rhythm, left bundle branch block (LBBB) with a QRS duration ≥150 ms, and NYHA class II, III, orambulatory IV symptoms on GDMT, cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) is indicated to reduce total mortality, reduce hospitalizations, and improve symptoms and QOL. Cardiac resynchronization provides high economic value in this setting. Mr.

Michelle Monaghan is an all-time favorite. Not only was she one of the very first guests on Collider Ladies Night back in 2019, but she's also an especially wonderful interview. She speaks of her work with great passion, and also deeply cherishes memories of her most influential scenes partners — and she has many of them. Yes, Vince Vaughn is on that list, but there's another member of the Bad Monkey ensemble who made an indelible impression on her as well.Based on Carl Hiaasen's bestselling novel, the Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey stars Vaughn as Andrew Yancy, a detective who got the boot from the Miami Police Department and sent to the Keys where he's further demoted to a health inspector. However, when a human arm is fished out of the water in the area, Yancy can't help himself; he's got to prove that this individual's death was no accident, but rather, a murder. Trouble is, he no longer has the resources and support to crack the case, and must sort through a string of unusual personalities to find answers. Complicating matters further for Yancy is Monaghan's character, Bonnie, a mysterious woman he had an affair with and keeps coming back to.In celebration of Bad Monkey's August 14 debut on Apple TV+, Monaghan returned to Ladies Night to dig into her collaboration with Vaughn and a few other past co-stars who heavily contributed to Monaghan's confidence in her craft and goals for the future.
