In this powerful episode of American Potential, host David From sits down with Rob Perez, co-owner of DV8 Kitchen in Lexington, Kentucky. More than just a restaurant, DV8 is a place where people recovering from addiction get a fresh start, proving that meaningful work can be a key to long-term recovery. Rob shares the deeply personal story behind the restaurant, from his own battle with addiction to his and his wife Diane's journey to create a business that prioritizes second chances. By employing individuals in early recovery and providing them with structure, accountability, and support beyond the workplace, DV8 has become a model of hope and transformation. But their success didn't come easily. Rob discusses the challenges of hiring people with past struggles, how they developed a system that ensures stability and success, and why many businesses shy away from second-chance employment. He also explains how their approach could be a solution to America's workforce shortages and addiction crisis. From hiring strategies to life-changing success stories, this episode dives into the real impact of combining business with purpose. Rob also shares how DV8 is inspiring other businesses to embrace second-chance hiring and create opportunities that help people reclaim their lives. Don't miss this inspiring conversation on redemption, dignity, and the power of work to change lives.

The man, the myth, the mustache. Bandit athlete Rob Perez just won a 300-mile unsanctioned ultramarathon through the driest desert in the world in Chile.
I often say that social media is a two edged sword. On one hand, it can consume our time and we can easily compare ourselves to others, putting us in a negative mental space. On the other, we can document our journey and share it with anyone out there willing to listen, potentially impacting someone in a more positive way. I much prefer the latter if I do say so myself. On today's episode of Just In Stride I had the chance to connect with Ultrarunner and content creator, Rob Perez.Rob got into running as a way to prepare for the intense training he experienced during his time with the U.S Navy. He built his base running 5 miles daily, quickly jumping into ultra running events covering 50 kilometers and beyond. After years of consistency, Rob took on the challenge and completed The Speed Project Solo earlier this year and plans on completing the international edition, by crossing the Atacama desert this November. Above all else, Rob loves creating useful running content on his social platforms, covering registration hacks, training tips, fueling advice and so much more. All in an attempt to help fellow runners as he hopes to make running more available and accessible to all.-------Offer from Xact Nutrition: This episode is presented by our friends at Xact Nutrition and they are offering you 15% OFF your order when you use the code JUSTINSTRIDE. Rob Perez, otherwise known as World Wide Wob, has a million Twitter followers based on his ability to share viral content fast. That means always being on the job, including the segment we'd blocked out to record this podcast. In this case we were delayed because, stop me if you've heard this excuse before, Rob had to Twitch stream a car chase involving a stolen police vehicle. Coming off the high of that police chase wrapping up, we got into how Rob does what he does and why. Discussion on this pod includes, but is not limited to:* What's a “fur missile”?* Moral issues in doing play by play of car chases* Rob regularly watches up to nine NBA games simultaneously, at full volume. How?* Why the International NBA fans are getting burnt out on the sport's controversies* What the hell was NBA Top Shot? * What specific NBA stories did Rob turn viral? * Is Rob the pig, or is he Gwyneth Paltrow? In this episode with Rob Perez, we discuss: Being self aware of your energy level as a leader. If you have high energy, you'll bring people up. If you have low energy you'll bring your people down. No one will exceed your energy. The significance of systems and processes in scaling. Taking advantages of the moment. Choosing to focus on the rainbow instead of the storm. The importance of delegating more instead of trying to do it all. How overworking and not asking for help leads to burnout. Thinking of your brand as a country. The difference between working for corporate operation VS your own independent. Working as a franchise opener so you can get experience with restaurant openings, before opening your own. Telling the story and creating the picture of what you're trying to build before you start building it. Learning to slow down when you communicate. How financial freedom and general freedom from your restaurant comes from volume. You need to earn so much in order to remove yourself from the operation. When you know its time to scale from one location, to two locations, and then to three locations. What led to opening the social enterprise, DV8 Kitchen. How success in a social enterprise comes from not lowering your standards. The role human dignity plays in the success of a social enterprise. Rob Perez got his start in the restaurant business as a young man living in California. He would go on to spend over a decade between the Hard Rock Cafe and Walt Disney Company. In 2008, Perez, along side wife Diane, launched a new casual dining concept in Lexington, KY, Saul Good Restaurant and Pub. In the years that followed, the couple opened two more restaurants under the Saul Good brand. In 2017, the Perez family opened Lexington's first social enterprise restaurant, DV8 Kitchen, with the mission to provide a second chance for individuals recovering from Alcohol and drug addiction.
