First up is Adventure Mart, a light deck builder depicting store owners in a fantasy convenience store, selling weapons to adventurers, and building your empire. Instead of simply buying cards, you bid for them against other players, which creates opportunities for interaction and light, friendly screwage. This one will go directly to retail very soon. We also played Prisma Arena, an arena combat game reminiscent of HeroClix with a low barrier of entry and lots of card-based tactical movement and combo play. Please check the array of links in the show notes for insane value in this episode. Rory has now completed 3 Marathons with another 2 booked for October. I have now completed both a Triathlon and a Marathon 10km swim. Considering our combined weight is 200kg we consider ourselves founders of a new movement. A heavy movement. The HEA. To make ourselves harder to kill. This episode is 1 hour and 45 minutes long. Professor Rory O’Connor, Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory, University of Glasgow Suicide and self-harm are major public health concerns with complex aetiologies which encompass a multifaceted array of risk and protective factors. There is growing recognition that we need to move beyond psychiatric categories to further our understanding of the pathways to both. As an individual makes a decision to take their own life, an appreciation of the psychology of the suicidal mind is central to suicide prevention. Another key challenge is that our understanding of the factors that determine behavioural enaction (i.e., which individuals with suicidal thoughts will act on these thoughts) is limited. Although a comprehensive understanding of these determinants of suicidality requires an appreciation of biological, psychological and social perspectives, the focus in this podcast is primarily on the psychosocial determinants of self-harm and suicide. To this end, The Integrated Motivational–Volitional (IMV) Model of Suicidal Behaviour (O’Connor & Kirtley, 2018; O’Connor, 2011) is discussed; it provides a framework in which to understand suicide and self-harm. This tripartite model maps the relationship between background factors and trigger events, and the development of suicidal ideation/intent through to suicidal behaviour. In this podcast, we talk about a range of different topics including: • The epidemiological context. Suicide rates. • The myths around suicide and self-harm • The determinants of suicide and self-harm • The IMV model of suicidal behaviour • The implications for the prevention of suicide References O'Connor, R.C., Kirtley, O.J. Episode Notes Professor Rory O'Connor is the Director of the Suicide Behaviour Research Laboratory in Glasgow and one of the world's leading experts on tackling suicide. Suicide is a complex topic with no easy answers but it affects everyone and the research shows that men are three times as likely to kill themselves as women. We talk about his model of suicidal behaviour, factors that can turn suicidal ideation into action, and interventions that could save a life. Many people who develop suicidal ideation feel entrapped and defeated with a 'tunnel vision'. There are eight main factors, ones that I wasn't taught at medical school, that healthcare professionals can ask about to assess if ideation can turn to action. If you are working in those situations then get to know them - they are a good example of how it can takes 10-15 years or more for research to get into clinical practice. And for everyone, not just those working in healthcare services, there are plenty of thoughts on how we can help ourselves, our family, and our friends and colleagues. Just asking someone if they are suicidal could help that person. Call The Samaritans on 116 123 in the UK or ROI for help. 'Kieran Donaghy is playing the football of his life at the moment. If Aidan O'Shea was in centre forward he would cause consternation in the Kerry backs and would be a much greater danger in there.' The Battle for Connacht - The Norman Invasion XXI (1190 - 1205)

The Kingdom of Connacht in the west of Ireland represented one of the greatest obstacles to Norman domination of Ireland. The ruling family, the O'Connors had resisted Norman intrusion into their kingdom on several occasions. However in the 1190s their power began to fade. As three members of the family - Cathal 'of the Red Hand' O'Connor, his brother and grandnephew battled for the crown, the Normans were quick to intervene. The results were disastrous. Led by William Burke and the self styled 'Prince of Ulster' John de Courcy, their arrival saw Connacht explode in violence.*************************************************************************This show proved to be one of the most difficult to write and make. While I have a fairly good handle on the topic, the intrigues that make it interesting are byzantine in nature. The very essences of the story - a dispute within the O'Connor family is deeply confusing. There are four distinct factions all lead by relatives who share similar names. The faction is lead by Rory O'Connor while two others are lead by his brother Cathal 'of the Red Hand' and his son Conor (yes his name is Conor O'Connor!). Finally to make matter even more complicated a fourth faction is lead by Conor's son, another Cathal. He was known as a Cathal 'Carrach' O'Connor. To make the storyflow easier I changed Cathal 'Carrach' O'Connor's name to the simpler Carrach (pronounced Carr-ock)O'Connor. The Norman side is equally complex. The two leading figures are John de Courcy and William Burke. Burke supported three differing factions and this makes their involvement labyrinthine at times. When you listen to the show I would be really grateful if you could let me know what you thought - feedback is very useful when I am making future shows.
