San Benito County is one of the unsung jewels of the Central California Coast. Most people know of San Juan Bautista and the Pinnacles, but there is much, much more. Two mountain ranges, broad valleys, rangelands, farmlands and biodiversity. But the Highway 101 corridor, which runs through a corner of the county, provides access to Silicon Valley and the SF Bay and people are moving south in search of cheaper housing. Malls and sprawls are not far behind. Now, a local movement is seeking to limit development with an initiative to require a public vote if agricultural, rural or range land is rezoned to residential, commercial or industrial use, a strategy already applied in several other California counties. Join host Ronnie Lipschutz to hear from Andy Hsia-Coron of Protect San Benito County, one of the activists behind the initiative, Chris Wilmers of UCSC, who studies cougars and bobcats that want to cross the road, Seth Adams from Save Mount Diablo, a land trust active across the County, and Val Lopez, Chair of the Amah Mutsun, whose ancestral lands cover much of the County.

Sensei Seth Adams is a Martial Arts content creator, practitioner, and instructor who teaches in North Carolina. There's so many people who I took Karate with as a kid that reached out to me now that said, “Man, I wish I would've stuck with it, I wish I would've just kept doing it”. Once you reached that age, you are kind of heavily influenced by your peers and their thoughts, and then once you become an adult, you realized that none of it matters… And you just wish you just kept doing Karate. Sensei Seth Adams - Episode 598 Having good memories of your training in martial arts makes it so easy to come back to it. Sensei Seth Adams got out of training when he played college football, and returning to training came naturally. Importance of playing chess with big stakes of land values and land development. They are working to protect land and make it a better place to live. 06:37 – Adams explains how Measure L is actually a culmination of 30-years of talks and the only piece of land in the Ginocchio properties of 7,000 acres they wish to develop is the land proposed between Antioch and Brentwood. Adams explains how this land will not be a park or is highly sensitive land allowing them to have an environmental net gain in environmental land while strengthening the urban limit line. 09:48 – How does Save Mount Diablo work through preserving land versus the need for much needed housing? POISON OAK In the 1820s a botanist innocently sent some poison oak seeds back to London to be planted in Victorian gardens. Oops! In this segment, Save Mount Diablo’s Seth Adams explains what hikers need to know to avoid—and appreciate—this problematic plant. Presented by Save Mount Diablo in partnership with Mount Diablo Interpretive Association.
MOUNT DIABLO 101 Take a hike with Seth Adams, who’s been roaming Mount Diablo on behalf of the conservation organization Save Mount Diablo since 1988. As Seth explains, the mountain was sacred to Native Americans, they saw it as the place where the world was created. For the Europeans who came later, it was a navigational landmark and place to map the Bay Area. Late in the 19th century, its coal fueled California’s industrial development. Today, it’s a real wilderness within an hour’s drive of millions of people. Presented by Save Mount Diablo in partnership with Mount Diablo Interpretive Association.
Josh sits down with Peak Refuel founder Seth Adams. Peak Refuel is a backcountry meal and snack brand delivering freeze dried meals that don't lose their nutritional value through the dehydration process and taste AMAZING. With a decade of experience in the freeze dried food industry, Adams' love for the outdoors pushed him to set out to seriously upgrade the meals on the current market. He sought to create a product that consumers could get behind, believe in, and rely on. After testing it with hundreds of outdoor athletes and enthusiasts he was able to bring his product to market just a short few months ago!

Thanks Rabbi Sandy! Perhaps you are like me… …you share pictures on Facebook of inspirational quotes …you like reading the wisdom literature of all different kinds of faith traditions …you want to build a life of meaning around lots of practices like meditation, yoga, prayer/ritual, mindfulness, whatever words you want to use And you want to do this while staying true to the tradition you grew up in (or are connected to). You don’t want to become a yogi unless you’re a Jewish yogi, for example. Or perhaps you were raised culturally in a religion and you’re looking for that religion to provide you with the Better Life of Meaning, but you’re not finding that in a synagogue/church/mosque or on the shelf of your local bookstore. Or maybe you’re a spiritual seeker but you just don’t know where to start. I have something that will interest you. Practical Spirituality eCourse! As a rabbi, I draw from Judaism as the inspiration for the series. But anyone of any spiritual inclination can take the course. And yes, that includes atheists/agnostics/humanists! In 2010, Seth Adams worked in Ecuador with Round River Conservation Studies. He was there as part of an effort to show the locals the importance of conserving the surrounding forest and wildlife. Yet, the longer that he was there, interacting with locals like Don Manuel and Stu, the more he began to reflect on his own perspective. Could the Ecuadorians show Seth something about himself?
