Clink those glasses as we traverse the spirited path of whiskey with our illustrious guest, the creator of Rosewood Whiskey, Bourbon, and Rye, Jason Geils. From his initial dalliance with Crown to his present-day marination in an array of bourbons, ryes, and whiskeys, Jason's tale is as intoxicating as it is inspiring. Walk alongside him as he unravels his transformation from a whiskey admirer to a brand proprietor, the exhilarating ride that accompanies managing distribution, orchestrating a Facebook group for pickers, and striking a balance with the discerning demand for his picks. Our whiskey-soaked adventure takes us on a tasting jaunt to Kentucky and Indiana, to savour the unique richness these regions contribute to their bourbons. Uncover the enchantment of whiskey as Jason did - through a whiskey calendar, a serendipitous discovery of the Scotchy Bourbon Boys Club. Indulge in a bit of sports banter as we scrutinize the Packers-Cowboys rivalry and how Jason stakes his bourbon on the game's outcome! As we draw the curtains on this whiskey wonderland, we scratch beneath the surface of the disparate tastes of MGP and Wellers, and why Texas whiskey blending can pose a challenge. Imbibe Jason's wisdom on the significance of appreciating varied whiskey preferences and delighting in whiskey tasting. We toast to the joys of good bourbon, good times, and good friends, eager to welcome Jason back for more spirited conversations. So, pour yourself a glass of your preferred whiskey and embark on this flavorful escapade with us. Cheers! Support the showhttps://www.scotchybourbonboys.com

507 - J. Geils Band - Musta Got Lost (Live): Chris, Nick, and Andy break down "Musta Got Lost" from the 1976 live album Blow Your Face Out by J. Geils Band.
Magic Dick, (Richard Salwitz) plays harmonica for the J. Geils Band. Salwitz was born in New London, Connecticut. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he met John "J." Geils and Danny Klein and became a founding member of the J. Geils Band in 1965. Salwitz's harmonica playing became a major and distinctive element in the J. Geils Band's sound during their hard-rocking 1970s heyday. His performance of "Whammer Jammer" on the band's live album Full Househas been particularly noted. In The Rolling Stone Record Guide (1979), music critic Dave Marsh described Salwitz as possibly "the best white musician to ever play blues harmonica." He was often referred to as "Magic Dick and his Lickin' Stick". Mark Hummel Patreon Accidental Productions https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOOnWFbj8SGiV34ixhO0Cwg

Peter Wolf says the title of his new album A Cure for Loneliness is a personal statement. Peter Wolf discusses his new album A Cure for Loneliness. "Music has been my constant cure... for loneliness. And so, it's a collection of just a lot of new songs I've written and some favorite roots songs that have been with me all my life." One of the standout cuts is a very different version of the J. Geils Band favorite "Love Stinks." At first, that wasn't a song he planned to include on the album. Peter Wolf on his reboot of the J Geils song "Love Stinks." "We were taping live and that was not planned. We were backstage fooling around. I think a little bit of Kentucky's finest -- everyone was having a little sip of this and that. And so on stage, I just called out, started singing 'Love Stinks,' and the band started following me. People enjoyed it so much, we decided to put it on the record. But it wasn't planned that way." Wolf is getting ready to head "north, west, east and south" on a tour that begins next Friday and extends into the summer. Expect his new material to be mixed with songs he made famous with The J. Geils Band. As Peter reminds us, "It's a large part of my life. We were together for 17 years." Peter Wolf previews his spring tour. "There are a lot of hip-shakin', uptempo, slamming things. We just do a lot of different textures. A broader bunch of things, but I still rock it out -- there's still a lot of blues-based things and raunchy things. So, it's different. And I also include some of my favorite Geils songs." That J. Geils history even includes a show where they actually shared a bill with the late, great Prince. Peter Wolf was a fan of Prince, even before he and The J. Geils Band were opening acts for a 1981 Rolling Stones show in L.A.. "I met him several times throughout the years, and he was also a guest on a bill that The J.Geils Band had played with The Rolling Stones out in California. I met him even before his first recordings came out. And so, I did not know him well, but one thing's for sure, I was and still am a very huge fan of his artistry, creativity and his work." Peter Wolf kicks off his tour April 29th at Infinity Hall in Hartford, Connecticut.

Geils, The Cars, and you know, Boston); the 80s music video era (experienced pre-cable through Friday Night Videos, obscure UHF shows, and our beloved V-66); the alt-rock scene of the 90s, when the women took over (Juliana Hatfield, Letters to Cleo, Belly); and our Boston favorites these days (such as Freezepop, Sidewalk Driver, and Carissa Johnson). Michael joined John on the Phone to talk about his new Music - Brand New Heartache , we also spoke about his Previous Songs , including - Please don't cry ( with Neil Finn) and Turn this Love around. Michael is an Australian singer/songwriter. His music has been described as a fusion of folk, Americana and rock with hints of artists such as The Beatles, Wilco, Eagles and Ron Sexsmith. From intimate solo shows to full band performances, his songs are deceptively simple about complex things: love, family, home, and trust. Michael's new single Please Don't Cry ( ft. Neil Finn) was recorded in NZ at Roundhead Studios a few years prior as part of an experience offered by Medicine Mondiale. Michael knew that opportunity had to be his and grabbed onto it with everything he had. He won and got to spend two days recording with Neil Finn. Neil chose two songs from a batch of demos and the final versions of these songs, especially Please Don't Cry have a warm and personal feel that Michael is so excited to share. Neil worked with Michael on two songs Please Don't Cry and Hinges both of which also feature Neils vocals on the track. They were never released as Michael went to the US soon after to record his debut EP. Upon returning from that experience and release, Michael finished the Roundhead songs back in Australia working with old pals Gideon & Daniel Frankle who helped shape the track with extra instrumentation, lap steel by Ed Bates, Mixed by Tony Buchen (Courtney Barnett, Tim Finn) and Mastered by Steve Smart ( Vance Joy, Midnight Oil). In the past couple of years Michael had been co-writing with Grammy-award winning artist Frank Myers ( All 4 One, Lonestar, Alabama). This songwriting resulted in an EP recorded at Ocean Way studios in Nashville. Produced by Frank Myers and Jimmy Nichols ( Faith hill, Reba McIntyre) the songs were recorded and mixed by Steve Marcantonio (John Lennon, J. Geils, George Strait, Alabama and recently Thomas Rhett, Taylor Swift and Steven Tyler) The songs became Michael’s new EP ‘Turn This Love Around’. Please Don't Cry re-recorded for the US market with a distinct Nashville tone was the first single released and In September 2018, Burrows released his second single "Turn This Love Around." The song debuted at No. 39 on Australia's iTunes Store, No. 2 on the iTunes Rock Chart, and No. 14 on Australian Independent Record Labels Association's singles chart. The singles received light to mild rotations across commercial, independent and community stations. From ABC with Myf Wurhurst to Triple M, Triple M Country and album of the week for ABC Widebay. All 3 single releases have been picked up by Coles Radio ( Australia's largest digital station) In January 2019, "Turn This Love Around" made its US premiere on Atwood Magazine and landed on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart for 5 weeks, reaching its peak at No. 24. The single's success carried over to his following single "Brightest Star," which peaked on the same chart at No. 25. Both singles became part of Burrows' debut EP Turn This Love Around, which was released in June. Both Billboard tracks have also received significant radio play within the US in 2019 appearing on shows like 'The Jim Brickman show ( syndicated to 200's of stations), NPR's WLRN ( Folk & Acoustic Music Show) , Voice Of America (measured weekly audience of more than 275.2 million people around the world), Acoustic Cafe ( RDR Radio, LLC) and hundreds of other commercial stations across the AC and AAA radio format. Just recently Michael's songs made the official ballot for the Grammys 2019 for two songs ' Turn This Love Around ' ( Best pop solo performance & best pop vocal album) and ' Brightest Star' ( Best American Roots performance & Best American Roots song)

This tenth studio album by The J. Geils Band would be a departure from their blues rock and mainstream pieces for which they were known in the 70's, and would be their most commercially successful. Freeze Frame took The J. Geils Band from a regional band to international stardom. The band consisted of John (J.) Geils on guitar, Seth Justman on keyboards, Stephen Bladd on drums, Danny Klein on bass, Peter Wolf on lead vocals, and Richard Salwitz (aka Magic Dick) on harmonica, trumpet, and saxophone. The album was arranged and produced by keyboardist Seth Justman, and all songs were either written or co-written by Justman.Part funk, part new wave, Freeze Frame has the band teetering on the experimental edge. Unfortunately the band would not be able to hold up. Front man Peter Wolf left in 1983 because “they wanted to continue in a pop-techno way. It wasn't my thing.” (per Wikipedia). They would record one more album with Seth Justman on lead vocals, then disband in 1985.There are a lot of hits off this album, and most of the songs will transport you back to a period in the early 80's where MTV was just beginning to “Take Off.”Join us now before your blood runs cold, and your memory has just been sold! Freeze FramePeter Wolf and Seth Justman wrote this one, and it is the lead song off the album. A freeze frame is a still image taken from a video, and the song uses a number of photography and film terms to tell the story of an obsession with a girl. “test trip, proof sheet love is hard to find.”Rage in the CageThis one was not released as a single, but it still got air play, and you may remember the driving harmonica jam. It tells the story of a guy who gets laid off, feels trapped in his town, and only finds relief in his transistor radio. “It don't take a PhD to know I'm goin' nowhere fast. I've got to move - I'm on the move. It don't take much to see this town is livin' in the past. They all just seem to wanna tie me down. Let me hear that radio!”FlamethrowerThis song was the B-side to “Freeze Frame.” It didn't hit the top 40, but it made it to #25 on the R&B charts. The song is about a woman who punches the clock in a blue collar job and cuts loose at night.CenterfoldThis is the big hit off the album, and the track that changed The J. Geils band seemingly overnight. The bad had been a pretty big thing in Boston and Detroit, but they landed on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine, and on an opening slot touring with The Rolling Stones after this song came out. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:“Arthurs Theme” by Christopher CrossDudley Moore's comedy film “Arthur” was in the cinemas at this time. STAFF PICKS:“My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)” by ChilliwackRob brings us the first top 40 US hit by a Canadian rock band named after the sixth largest city in British Columbia! Front man and lead guitarist Bill Henderson said they took the name even though none of the band members were from that city. They liked the way the name sounded like a First Nation word, which fit with the sound that the band was striving to achieve.“Trouble” by Lindsey BuckinghamBrian's staff pick comes from the Fleetwood Mac guitarist and singer's debut solo album, "Law and Order." Mick Fleetwood contributes to this album on the drums, though Buckingham decided to loop a handful of measures of the drums throughout the song. Though it was a departure from Fleetwood Mac, you still have the feel of that group. “I'll Fall In Love Again” by Sammy HagarWayne's staff pick features the Red Rocker after his Montrose days, and prior to his time in Van Halen. This song chronicles a man moving on from a broken relationship. "It's alright with me now, I'll get back up somehow. And with a little luck, I'm bound to win - I'll fall in love again."“Tora, Tora, Tora (Out with the Boys)” by Rod StewartBruce finishes off our staff picks with this 6th single from Rod Stewart's eleventh studio album,“Tonight I'm Yours.” Stewart makes a return to rock after his departure to disco in the late 70's. "I wanna talk about motorbikes, cars and things. No sophistication or designer jeans. I'm no angel, but I know what I like - a little rough and tumble on a Friday night." COMEDY TRACK:“Take Off” by Bob and Doug McKinseyGeddy Lee lends his vocal talents to this track from SCTV's sketch comedians from the Great White North, played by Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis.
Billy D talks with actor and comedian Tim Allen about his hit show Last Man Standing switching networks, his life-changing experience at a J. Geils show, and his appearance at the Altria Theater.

Producer Peter Wolf (not the J. Geils frontman) is behind some of the biggest music of the 80s, but also the most divisive. No matter how you may feel about "We Built This City" and "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" (and chances are you feel strongly) those songs were, and still are, huge. They also wouldn't be what they are without his Midas touch. In addition, Peter lent his genius to other classic songs of the era like "Who's Johnny," "Playing With the Boys," "Night Shift," and "King of Wishful Thinking." Plus, he's worked with some of rock's greatest artists like Lou Gramm, The Who, Heart, Big Country and Chicago. We discuss all of it, as well as the TV show he's currently developing. The guy is nothing if not savvy, you gotta give it up to him!
